We don't know if it was the producers or Ronny Yu who wanted someone else as Jason. Kane Hodder was devastated for years and wished he was Jason in FVJ.
@@Garbageman0 Stokley Chaffin had a bug up her ass about Kane for indiscernible reasons and she made the decree "Kane Hodder will not be Jason in this movie." HOWEVER, when the fans found out, they engaged in a letter-writing campaign (which I participated in) to get him back into the movie. Because of the massive fan backlash, the producers at New Line called a meeting and they screened "Jason X." About midway through one of the producers (who I hope wasn't Bob Shaye, but probably was) said "I don't get it. What's so special about this guy?" And we failed.
Kane is Jason, it’s that simple! Yes, many actors have played the role but it’s Kane that gave jason an identity with his characteristics that we identify with. He basically took what CJ graham started in part 6 and added more to it and gave us a signature Jason Kerziinger played a slow lumbering, lil aggression, sympathetic version of the character that took me out of the film. Not his fault tho but I just didn’t like it
This movie is James' Skyrim. Never stops revisiting it. Love how Freddy and Jason contrasts one another perfectly. The slow and silent dude who drowned to death vs the agile and talkative dude who burned to death.
This might be the best crossover since the original King Kong VS Godzilla. The original planned ending had Freddy and Jason end up in Hell, then Pinhead appears asking, "What seems to be the problem, gentlemen?" Unfortunately, New Line didn't have the rights to the Hellraiser franchise, so it was scrapped.
Fun fact: the hypnocil was mentioned by Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3. It was a drug she was using herself and one she was suggesting the staff prescribe for the patients in the third film.
I just noticed when Will is first shown in the institute getting his meds, he looks at the TV that’s reporting the murders at Lori’s house…the news station is KRGR news. Like Krueger. I’ve seen this movie a million times and never noticed it lol.
When Mark grabs the security badge at the hospital, the name on the badge is K. Park which is either a reference to Kristen Parker or a wild coincidence.
Yes, that is 100% Evangeline Lilly in the background. She did a bit of work in Vancouver before getting her big break. When I first saw her on Lost I thought, "Hey! That's the woman from the late night phone chat tv commercial."
Ken Kirzinger was actually in Jason Takes Manhattan. During the diner scene, Kirzinger plays the cook who Kane Hodder's Jason throws across the counter.
The actor who played Jason in this film was supposed to play Jason in Friday the 13th Part VII: Jason Takes Manhattan, but that was scrapped when Kane Hodder returned to reprise the role. Ken actually played the big cook Jason throws in the diner! Glad he got a chance to play Jason - it's easily one of my favorite versions of the character.
I mean Freddy was always dead. He said everyone forgot. He needs people to know him and fear him to get into their dreams. It’s why he doesn’t always kill right away. He needs to instill the fear to give him power to take life in a dream.
He's been in water several times during various Friday films with zero fear so the continuity with that scene sucked. In fact this movie ended with Jason calmly walking out of the lake carrying Freddy's severed head. Where was thst fear of water then? They couldn't even keep continuity within the film itself.
@@joaquinmuniz3055 The scene could have worked if it was shown that Freddy was messing with Jason's mind and doing something like making him fixate on his original drowning which then caused him to react badly to water and allowed Freddy to weaponise it. Having Jason immediately fear it and that giving Freddy the idea to use water just made no sense.
That last scene of Jason walking out of the lake could be interpreted a purgatory where they both remain even though it resembles Crystal Lake. Jason’s holding Freddy’s head as a trophy rather than a friendship. Freddy just winks at the audience because since he is no longer in the real world (and being the evil spirit/dream demon he is) he can shapeshift back to whatever he pleases in that realm to torture Jason for eternity.
Jason X takes place AFTER Freddy vs Jason! The beginning is in 2010 and the rest of the movie hundreds of years in the future! FvJ takes place in 03’ or 04’. Jason X is actually the last story in the OG Jason’s timeline even though it came out before FvJ.
This isn’t exactly a villain vs villain movie because Jason isn’t exactly a villain. Even one of the actors who played Jason said he was more like an animal defending his territory than some murderous, sadistic psychopath like Freddy.
Fun Fact 3: Another concept was having a backstory set where Freddy was one of the counselors at Crystal Lake Camp that set up Jason's drowning because he wanted to cover up "Assaulting" Jason. The writers felt that was too far even for this version of Freddy.
Can confirm. He wasn't a counselor however, Freddy was born in 1942 making him 15 when jason died. The idea was that he was a fellow camper who drowned jason, jason was his first kill.
The “Jason being afraid of water” thing doesn’t bother me as much as it does some people. Yeah, the waking life Jason would never be afraid of water, but in his dreams, in his subconscious, it would make sense that the memories of his drowning as a child would stick in the back of his mind.
It's really the only way it makes sense. Besides, it isn't really water itself that he's afraid of, it's being trapped in it and drowning. As a big scary gigantic murder zombie he can stroll out of the water any time he wants, but he was trapped in that dream world... trapped... plus water.... equals... childhood trauma. Notice he didn't care about it at all when he was awake and came out of it to give Freddy the ol' reach around Sunday surprise.
Jason is not afraid of water normally. However, this is in a nightmare. By the way, Jason in this movie is played by Ken Kirzinger who played waiter at resturant in Jason takes Manhattan.
Jason Ritter is also Dipper in Gravity Falls. And is married to Melanie Lynskey, who plays Shauna in Yellowjackets, Beatrice in Over the Garden Wall, and Rose in Two and a Half Men.
18:33 The one time someone remembers a name and they are literally just an extra with one second of screen time 😂 love y'all and the reactions. I've been waiting for this since the first Freddy 😊
I think it's the back stories of both of them. They make Jason seem a little more sympathetic. Jason was a victim of bullying, while Freddy was a murderer and child molester.
@@WickedXombieDigiKingWRONG! He was always implied to be a child molester. That was the original idea for the OG film, and we see him licking photos of children and it’s explicitly stated he likes children, especially little girls. Not to mention he’s always perving.
Jason wasn't initially aware that he was being used by Freddy. The moment that was revealed, it pissed Jason off. And the reason he let Lori kill Freddy, is because he's more cleaver than a lot of people give him credit for. The 2 kids won't be as afraid of Freddy if they're allowed to be the ones to strike the final blow. This is his middle finger to Freddy.
Jason X is technically after Freddy vs Jason but it was made before FvJ. Since its farther in the future 2010 to 400 years later. This one is in 2003 making this before Jason X.
Nice catch Roxy, that was indeed Evangeline! Freddy Vs. Jason came out in 2003 right before 'Lost' the next year. I remember when she was on Electric Playground back in the day showing off gaming tech stuff.
I grew up with this movie and am a massive fan of Lost and I’ve never noticed Evangeline Lily in this until Roxy pointed it out lol. Great reaction Shejects!
The guy who took on the Jason role did a fine job, but it still really disappoints me that they didn't have Kane Hooder reprise the role after being the longest running person to portray the character. He was responsible for giving Jason all of his little mannerisms and his hulking presence. They went with the guy in this just because he was a few inches taller and they wanted him to be much taller than Freddy, but the could have done that with Kane Hooder with lifts in his shoes and camera angles.
Alien vs Predator. I recommend Ginger Snaps too. Gibb (the menthol smoker gf) is in them, Katherine Isabelle. She's a scream queen. You guys could also watch the Scary Movie franchise. After watching the Scream movies of course ✌🏻🤘🏻Will was played by Jason Ritter, son of the late John Ritter
41:56 Did y'all NOT pay attention to the first 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' movie when Nancy's mother says Freddy was "a filthy child murderer who killed dozens of kids in the neighborhood."?! They just turned the valve up on his character, he was ALWAYS meant to be creepy and disgusting. 😂
I'm confused how She didn't get the wink. It was showing that Jason won by walking out with his head, but then Freddy winks showing he's not Dead because they wanted to pursue a sequel.. Pretty much a post credit scene
@@marcosavalos2502na it’s just a set up that he didn’t in fact die he was in the real world when Lori took his head I checked a long time ago because I was a little confused.
@@BrandonR592I mean doesn’t really matter but when looked up it does say Jason won even tho Lori did the final blow Freddy lost, the ending was more for a possible set up for another movie that obviously didn’t happen.
I think I remember someone interpreting the ending and the wink as Freddy still sort of controlling Jason. Why would Jason take Freddy's head could have just left it in the lake to rot, Freddy got him to take it and is going to continue to use Jason to do his dirty work for him.
This movie was a monument in the entertainment industry. Still not happy they replaced Kane Hodder as Jason but Ken Kirzinger was still a pretty decent addition
Robert Englund said he couldn’t play the roll anymore due to his age and his torso shifted (doesn’t have his hourglass figure anymore) and he lost Freddy’s silhouette. He liked Jackie Earle Haley’s version but not the backstory they went with. He’s also said that Kevin Bacon would be a good person to take on the roll cause he respects the genre.
Sadly Kane Hodder isn't portraying Jason in this movie ( even thought most Fans wanted it) , Kane himself was disappointed especially after all the hard work he put in playing the character
What i love the most about Jason Voorhees compared to a lot of slashers is how much he's evolved from where he originally started. Like Chucky, Jason really has gone & done things no other slasher or monster slasher has done. He died young & came back a curse thanks to the necronomicon. He survived multitude of death wounds beyond humanly possible. He spiritually under influence can possess others by his essence beyond evil because of his curse. Resurrected back to life as a nearly indestructible super zombie rockstar. He fought a Carrie White Like Teenager incarnated (Tina Shepherd) Traveled on a cruise to Manhattan. Blew up to pieces, came back fully embracing possessing others as his true body hopper form & then sent to HELL. Came back from Hell, went to Elm Street, then back to Crystal Lake. Met, fought, survived & killed Freddy Krueger. Froze in time for over 400 years of the future, sent to space, fought a female cyborg, killed people in space, got killed in space, came back & became an indestructible cyborg himself. THIS MAN HAS BEEN THROUGH & DONE It ALL🎸🎸🎸BEST ANTIHERO SLASHER EVER🎸🔥
@@dgenerate707 AMEN 🎸✨🎸 That's why I wasn't ever really that scared of him at All watching him & his films over & over as a baby & a kid even to this very day as an adult. I don't know what it is about the character but it became difficult for me to root for anyone else in the franchise other than Jason himself.
@@fireeaglefitnessmartialart935 That's also true as her role of being the final girl, she did finish him like she wanted to see be done by Jason & herself but Jason technically overall did ALL of the work fighting the shit out of Freddy with every ounce of strength, including getting him to drop on his knees after impaling him with his own weapon. So yeah it worked both ways honestly both Lori & Jason killed Freddy but again from a technical standpoint of the final fight, Jason ultimately got the last strike of the shot in making sure Freddy was done so that lori could drop the cherry on top of finishing the job as the act of accomplishing her revenge for her mother. Plus throughout the movie we've seen that Lori couldn't in the slightest put up a strong fight against Freddy, she always just got lucky at finding ways of getting away from him. Again, that fighting effort was all Jason. And from the way he was fighting Jason, if Freddy really wanted to, he could've & wouldve killed Lori every chance he got. So if Jason hadn't done all of the work in partially mostly killing Freddy in the final fight & unintentionally saving Lori's life from Freddy, Both Lori & Will would've been dead. So Jason did ultimately have a very strong part in making sure Freddy was dead, not just Lori.

Monica Keena was also in a really funny show on Fox called "Undeclared" a while back, with Seth Rogan, Jay Beruchel, and Charlie Hunnam. Man I remember the Freddy VS Jason idea was being passed around to a lot of studios and was ironically in development hell for a while after Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. After every kill people were high-fiving each other in the theater I went to on opening night...damn those were some awesome times.

Good call on Evangeline Lilly, I have seen this so many times, never saw her. She was uncredited though but it was her. Jason Ritter, the son of the late great John Ritter is in this one.
There was originally going to be a movie sequel to this crossover, but it got canceled. Instead, it continues in the comics with Ash Williams (Evil Dead) in "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash" (2007-2008) and then in "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash: The Nightmare Warriors" (2009).
We had so many great theater moments in the early 00's. Marvel, Batman, LOTR, this... just imagine. The theater erupted with laughter at the "goalie was pissed" line; that entire cornfield scene was a big hit. We were kinda disappointed w Jason being afraid of water after 'living" in it for so long - he just couldn't swim well as a boy, he wasn't afraid of water and nobody pushed him in there originally. General consensus was that the writers sort of dropped the ball on that one, but we ignored it because the rest of the movie is great. At the end? Idk if every one loved who "won", but I know everybody from NY and NJ were over the moon. You should have heard the cheers like we were at a championship game. I definitely agree!!!! Kane Hodder SHOULD HAVE been Jason for this one!!!! He did 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th. Fifth time would've been a great charm.😤
@@Garbageman0 Stokley Chaffin had a bug up her ass about Kane for indiscernible reasons and she made the decree "Kane Hodder will not be Jason in this movie."
HOWEVER, when the fans found out, they engaged in a letter-writing campaign (which I participated in) to get him back into the movie.
He basically took what CJ graham started in part 6 and added more to it and gave us a signature Jason
Kerziinger played a slow lumbering, lil aggression, sympathetic version of the character that took me out of the film. Not his fault tho but I just didn’t like it
“Kia, he has asthma!” Was a great line delivery
😁😁😁😆😆😆😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀☠️☠️☠️!!!
This movie is James' Skyrim. Never stops revisiting it. Love how Freddy and Jason contrasts one another perfectly. The slow and silent dude who drowned to death vs the agile and talkative dude who burned to death.
When I seen this in the theater which was packed. It was the most fun movie I watched that year it was released.
Blood is clearly pouring from the wall hanger after the dude flies into it..
Roxy: “Did that go into him?” 😂😂
I couldn't believe she even asked that! Lol!😅
Yeah they not the brightest bunch😂
That was also the same radio station that signed off when Glenn died in the first Nightmare on Elm Street. Lol little clues here and there
Because I was so young when I seen this i thought that was how you spelled Freddy's name for a long time. 😂
Goes to show who was the real Jason 😅
The actor who played Jason in this film was supposed to play Jason in Friday the 13th Part VII: Jason Takes Manhattan, but that was scrapped when Kane Hodder returned to reprise the role. Ken actually played the big cook Jason throws in the diner! Glad he got a chance to play Jason - it's easily one of my favorite versions of the character.
Blood pouring from the wall hanger..."Did that go into him?"
😂😂😂 I was laughing at that part too. It's like "Nah it just broke a ketchup packet he had in I back pocket. He's fine."
*Friday The 13th (2009) is the remake, you gotta watch that next!*
They completely skipped that. This was suppose to be the last movie. They would've enjoyed the 2009 remake but it maybe too late now
@@UA-cam_Street_Drifterdamn. That's a shame if they don't watch that as I still think it's better than a lot of the other F13th sequels
@@crookedcrain9157agreed. That’s one of the few remakes that I actually like more than the original.
I know this is a month old but did you enjoy their reaction to the remake? I sure did!!
No it’s terrible
That Evangeline Lily spot was crazy!
I mean Freddy was always dead. He said everyone forgot. He needs people to know him and fear him to get into their dreams. It’s why he doesn’t always kill right away. He needs to instill the fear to give him power to take life in a dream.
Jason isn't really afraid of water. It was his fear of drowning.
Still worked to Freddy's advantage
He's been in water several times during various Friday films with zero fear so the continuity with that scene sucked. In fact this movie ended with Jason calmly walking out of the lake carrying Freddy's severed head. Where was thst fear of water then? They couldn't even keep continuity within the film itself.
@@ivaneames4354yea even the director and writers disown that scene it was the studio butting in
@@joaquinmuniz3055 The scene could have worked if it was shown that Freddy was messing with Jason's mind and doing something like making him fixate on his original drowning which then caused him to react badly to water and allowed Freddy to weaponise it.
It could've worked if they pitched it as freddys early work. Like how criminals build their confidence and style.
The “Jason being afraid of water” thing doesn’t bother me as much as it does some people. Yeah, the waking life Jason would never be afraid of water, but in his dreams, in his subconscious, it would make sense that the memories of his drowning as a child would stick in the back of his mind.
Exactly, that’s how I always understood it
It's really the only way it makes sense.
The soundtrack to this movie is fantastic, even has Spineshank on it, one of my favorite early 2000's metal bands
ill nino too!
The "Jason goes to heaven?" Line at the end was funnier than expected 😂😂😂 because Jason does not infact have tickets to heaven
I'VE BEEN PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THIS WHEN YOU STARTED THE FRIDAY SERIES!!! CAN'T WAIT FOR THE 2009 REMAKE
Jason is not afraid of water normally. However, this is in a nightmare. By the way, Jason in this movie is played by Ken Kirzinger who played waiter at resturant in Jason takes Manhattan.
John Ritter's son is in this movie and John was in Bride Of Chucky. Very cool.
Yes and John was also in the original IT
@@jim1771 Yes he was. I had forgotten about that.
Evangeline Lilly was in one of the biggest TV shows of all time. And is in the MCU. Very recognizable.
I think it's the back stories of both of them. They make Jason seem a little more sympathetic. Jason was a victim of bullying, while Freddy was a murderer and child molester.
He is a child murderer the remake doesn't count
@@WickedXombieDigiKingWRONG! He was always implied to be a child molester. That was the original idea for the OG film, and we see him licking photos of children and it’s explicitly stated he likes children, especially little girls. Not to mention he’s always perving.
@@WickedXombieDigiKingThe original still implied he was a child molester
@@niyanna nah they literally say child murderer
@@niyanna also it ls in the documentary that movie people say chose to diverge from the original character description
this is real cinema alot of people wouldn’t understand
Jason wasn't initially aware that he was being used by Freddy. The moment that was revealed, it pissed Jason off. And the reason he let Lori kill Freddy, is because he's more cleaver than a lot of people give him credit for. The 2 kids won't be as afraid of Freddy if they're allowed to be the ones to strike the final blow. This is his middle finger to Freddy.
Jason X is technically after Freddy vs Jason but it was made before FvJ. Since its farther in the future 2010 to 400 years later. This one is in 2003 making this before Jason X.
Yeah that makes sense and is how I view them.
Thank you I was literally about to comment this
Hey, maybe the events of this movie are how they caught him. Jason did get wrecked pretty hard fighting Freddy, so he'd be weakened.
The Jason fire walk stunt was practical, NOT CGI.
Freddy vs Jason was THE crossover before multiverses and other versus movies were popular and in my opinion it still kicks ass
Literally picked Evangeline Lilly out of a crowd. Impressive.
Jason X takes place after Freddy vs Jason. Yes the start was in hell, Freddy resurrected Jason.
@@Robert-up1yi not a arm but fingers my friend 😂🤣😅
Arrite, gang.. we did the dang Freddy vs. Jason. PITCH US YOUR HORROR MOVIE CROSSOVERS!!!
Alien vs Predator is right there...
Jason VS Michael Myers!!!
There’s a fan film, but we need an official one!
Team Jason
Alien vs predator is great also would love to see the Friday 13th reboot maybe down the line
The Ring vs. The Grudge. Yes, it's a real thing 🤣
Fun Fact: The guy who played Mark's brother in the bathroom scene also played Scutt Farkiss in A Christmas Story.
@@chuckmckendry194 he was also in a sitcom called "Titus"
41:56 Did y'all NOT pay attention to the first 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' movie when Nancy's mother says Freddy was "a filthy child murderer who killed dozens of kids in the neighborhood."?! They just turned the valve up on his character, he was ALWAYS meant to be creepy and disgusting. 😂
Been loving these reactions from the SheJects! I love this movie. Glad you reacted to this one, and glad you liked it! Thanks for posting.
Next week, Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes does something awesome.
Have a remake almost surpasses the original.
I'm confused how She didn't get the wink. It was showing that Jason won by walking out with his head, but then Freddy winks showing he's not Dead because they wanted to pursue a sequel.. Pretty much a post credit scene
I doubt Jason won. Freddy winking showed that Jason failed and lost, because Freddy wasn’t dead.
@BrandonR592 He came out on top at end of movie unless it was the dream world at the end and I misunderstood it
@@marcosavalos2502na it’s just a set up that he didn’t in fact die he was in the real world when Lori took his head I checked a long time ago because I was a little confused.
Yeah Ken was great it just sucks that Kane didn't get to do it.
Fun fact: the older brother in the bathroom played the bully in "A Christmas Story"
He fought a Carrie White Like Teenager incarnated (Tina Shepherd)
Traveled on a cruise to Manhattan.
That's definitely what made him so cool
@@dgenerate707 AMEN 🎸✨🎸 That's why I wasn't ever really that scared of him at All watching him & his films over & over as a baby & a kid even to this very day as an adult. I related too much to Jason for reasons Like being bullied My entire life for these last 26 years as well as being a momma's boy, but just the way Jason was in these films, he was always just waaayyy too cool & fascinating to watch. I don't know what it is about the character but it became difficult for me to root for anyone else in the franchise other than Jason himself.
Jason technically didn't kill freddy. Lori did. Freddy technically killed jason unless you count the explosion in which case, was Lori also.
Anti-hero? He's a cold blooded serial killer. He's a villain.
The first R-rated movie I ever wanted to see… And it did not disappoint
i was 18 fresh out of high school when me and friends went to see this...the theatre was so loud and absolutely loved it....such a fun time
I was 10 years old lmao I remember my friends parents took us we snuck in some much chips and junk food it was awesome except when I got home and was in my room alone i was scared af 😂😂😂😂
Movie came out when I was seven years old. I watched this at the in-theater. Young children shouldn't watch this. But I loved this movie 😂
teh novelization of the movie explains that jason is only afraid of water deep in his subconscious, you can see freddy smiling as he lures jason out onto the pier during their final battle because he thinks jason will be handicapped but it doesnt work when jason is awake
Freddy vs Jason was in 2003...until now I'm still waiting for that rematch....
Wasnt that what the comic book with Ash from Evil Dead was?
Monica Keena was also in a really funny show on Fox called "Undeclared" a while back, with Seth Rogan, Jay Beruchel, and Charlie Hunnam. Man I remember the Freddy VS Jason idea was being passed around to a lot of studios and was ironically in development hell for a while after Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. The marketing for this movie was crazy once the film was finally shot, with there being an actual Boxing style Weigh-in and stats being called out by legendary Boxing announcer Michael Buffer. After every kill people were high-fiving each other in the theater I went to on opening night...damn those were some awesome times.
i saw this in theatre it was an epic battle we waited a long time for

Thanks for going through the series with us. Everybody of the RR crew rocks, but you two have been my favorite pair. Keep up the awesome work, everyone!
Michael Bay and Zach Snyder doing a movie... that is the most terrifying team up of all. Also, The fact this movie did get a sequel in the form of comic book featuring Ash from Evil Dead is interesting.
Good Nostalgia Critic callback, however I'd much rather see a team up movie from those 2 than endure anything coming out of live action Disney nowadays.

FINALLY, I've been waiting for this reaction since you started the Friday the 13th franchise reactions!
@RoxyStriar If you guys are going to watch the 2009 remake, make sure it's the Killer Cut rather than the Theatrical Cut.

I miss the theater for moments like that. Thanks for the reaction guys! The Freddy remake(Nightmare on Elm '10) is wack, but the Jason one (Friday the 13th remake '09) is really good. I knew you guys would like this one.
Lori "wake me up". Me "wake me up inside"
I love this part... at 46:16. Roxy: "You think they actually have a little thing for each other, and not him for Laurie, now?" Tara: "You could be right about that. I think he's dead, though." Lol! Love the reactions on these! Can you go back and you two continue the Conjuring Universe movies next? I know you did the first, but it'd be fun for you to do the rest of the Conjuring/Annabel/Nun movies!
