    I live in the Philippines, don't think that everything is paradise, filipino's have their own way of living, if you are annoyed by barking dogs, karaoke (loud) at night and roosters that crow at all times of the day, then maybe the Philippines is not for you , not to mention the brownouts and poor internet connections. I have adapted, (you have to) but it's not easy. Remember that you can't own a house here, so if your relationship breaks up you are in limbo, I rent a room in which I can do everything you can do in a house, including cooking, I pay p13,500 per month, my water and electricity is included in my rent, and I have air-con running all day. I tried many places before I hit on this one and it is about as good as it gets here. If you rent and your neighbours are giving you hell, you can up and move somewhere else, but if you build or buy a house...! Having said all that, the people are so friendly here and I feel much safer than back in the UK, I met a beautiful filipina 8 and a half years ago and we married in April of this year, I never want to go back to the UK, I will now start the process of applying for permanent residency...

      I think it’s important to look at the negatives along with the positives of living in another country with a culture entirely different from one’s native land. I will never move to another country for the reasons you have stated and then some. I appreciate being able to own property (I own my house outright here in the U.S.), and I appreciate being able to converse in my own language with native speakers of English who understand all nuances of a point.

    Its an adjustment people. But once you make it, You'll never want to go back to where you come from. I lived in the US all my life. Married a Filipino there. We decided to move back. Built a really nice home for about 125 grand with a dirty kitchen out back in Leyte. I have been here for 3 yrs now. And I speak some Tagalog as her family teaches me. Once you are accepted by a Filipino family, your life there gets better and the neighbors also accept you. There are some inconveniences. But you get use to them and learn quickly. The Philippines is my home now and I have applied for Residency. Once the word gets out in the Barangay you are... good people, Filipinos open their hearts to you and treat you as one of them.

    I think I saw the beginning of this build on another channel a few years ago.
    Turned out a bit different than I thought it would.
    If I build a house in PH I want to have a basement and plan to have that sticking out of the ground 2 or 3 feet so I don't need a retaining wall as the "ground floor" will already be a few feet off the ground. The basement will be important for bringing ground cooled air in to the house for passive cooling as I like it a bit cooler than it gets there in PH. :p

    • @ItsMe_Philippines
      @ItsMe_Philippines  Рік тому +2

      That could definitely be a great asset to have a basement if done correctly. Flooding is a constant issue here so I would make sure that the foundation and the cement to sealed properly.

      Good to hear you are moving to Bacolod. I was born and raised in Bacolod and left for Manila for college and worked in a few countries and I am now based in NYC. Through all those years, I have been going back to Bacolod and stayed intermittently (1 to 6 months) when in between jobs and even stayed 2 years in the early 2000s. I am a NYC resident almost 10 years now and I appreciate the physical "comforts" and "conveniences" of staying in the US. In exchange though, the stress levels are just too much. I just do not understand how can one be "homeless" in the US when the government has very good social services and jobs are available only if they are willing to work. "Homeless" from an Asian perspective or even from a Philippine perspective is on a different level of definition. Anyway, after all has been said, I still look forward of eventually going back to Bacolod. Welcome to my home city.

Im looking forward to go back to my hometown and have a peaceful life away from hustle bustle lifestyle in the USA. All i need is to pay the electric and water bills and property taxes which is not too big to pay. Also if i have an American man to marry then he will definitely to live with me in my hometown. Ohh i cant wait to reach my early retirement that way i will be able to travel without rushing to go back to work but just a matter of time to wait until 2024 to retire.
