When I was a kid growing up poor, I dreamed of a beautiful house and now I am buying 25m pesos beach resort I feel so jittery. But then, I saw this video, I am like whoooo... I wish I could afford this house but I realized suddenly I should be satisfied of what I have. This is human instinct we will never be satisfied and there's always something bigger and something beautiful.
You're right, a person can't be rich if he doesn't know what is enough for him
I like his ideas , learned some from him his early beginning . I like how he knows how to spend the money. I know people who have tons of money but can’t spend it. He have money, spend it , don’t have to justify it.

I agree 100%. This house is too complex, Americans like that. European houses tend to be square, with square regular rooms, especially from the Georgian era. I don't like all that snaking about and crazy roofs all connecting at wierd angles.
i agree. we prefer to travel and explore than building a house like this. we only live once, enjoy than stress. maintenance will be the problem in long run and the people around and family
They got big house but because they didnt manage their money well, they now broke and need to sell the house. Doesnt matter how good you are as a worker if you are retired, you cant spend to maintain a big house unless you did setup a money making business.
I bet this man has some great stories. I enjoy sitting down with older folks and listening to their amazing stories.

My wife is Cebuano. We built a very solid, poured concrete house in Lapu Lapu. No damage after the wicked 2013 earthquake, and easily rode our several typhoons. Our house is open to local women and children when they became misplaced. Because of this, my wife and I would not sell this house for any amount of money. I`m assuming this couple is able to give much to the needy and God bless them if they do!
The gentleman is super rich and knowledgeable on the architectural aspect of an expensive house. This couple are a good team and very educated as well.

His wife seems like a good wife, but not all Filipinas are like her. Some will keal you to get the house and live with the yard guy.

Doesn't make sense that he wants to sell his pride and joy just like that when he can come back in a few years and live in it. I seriously doubt he is a multimillionaire.

I was in awe while watching this video with everything he explained how this mansion came to be. And then I was in shocked , that he’s selling it. This mansion is pretty much a “retirement residence “, for them. But he’s not done yet and exploring more of what else he can get busy about. I think his done. He gonna regret it. In life there is just no turning back. We don't have unlimited energy. The life now in the US is not the same during his younger days, po. If you're living in the US right now then you know that. tons of mass shooting, even in schools. Properly taxes, and pricing. And mortgage interest is way too high, if not buying in cash. I don't know, I'm kinda scared for them moving in to the US. And selling what they have built carefully.
Plus, food price has tripled as well. But I wish the best for them.

I'm very worried about either an earthquake,possibly a volcano or maybe a criminal act involving a Muslim robbery kidnap gang. Do any of you guys have any suggestions on how he and his wife can be safe.Good luck, I'm worried ☹️☹️☹️
This mansion was completed in the year 2011 and nothing happened to it because there was no earthquake, volcano eruption ( there is no volcano near Dauin), never heard of Muslim robbery or kidnap gang. Dauin has many beach resort hotels and many expats living there.
So well designed that they had to add a bedroom on the balcony for their two daughters...
No it isn’t wtf 😂 he used local, uneducated labor workers who used the typical garbage cinder blocks and improperly finished concrete. Now, he’s trying to upsell the property as a mansion haven when in reality it’s some random number he came up with: 220 million 🤣
The wisdom of this gentleman who built this house is invaluable to all my us, may God bless his soul!

Wisdom may be too strong of a word. Investing at this level takes a lot of courage and willingness to lose it all.

Beautiful but not my cup of tea. One member of my family they built a house with stunning river views costed them 10m plus dollars here in USA it’s over 11 thousand square feet home I kid you not. But since it’s built here in the USA they can sell anytime with no problem finding a buyer. But in the Philippines it’s tough to find a buyer with this kind of home unless you’re in the city like Manila or Tagaytay. Good luck for finding a buyer🙏 and thanks for sharing.

Living humbly is the best policy in the Philippines
Any province in the Philippines will attract riff-raffs when your flaunting your wealth. Massive house like that will sit in the market for a long time to sell.
The whole vibe of the Ph seems to be "simple living". That is a great philosophy. This palace jars with that way of life
i see they will sell this house, that hurts. i have thought of buying before (i am a filipino) but due to the system and family issue, better to live simple and travel to avoid conflict.

Very true, it will be crazy to sell that it’s fabulous but location may not be too friendly for international or local buyers. He could probably just turn it into a hotel resort. Our house is probably quarter amount of that house and not even in the beach side, it’s a bit shaky to sell already being surrounded by smaller houses.Goodluck to the owner selling it.

I won't invest heavily in building such a large house, even though I'm young. Future maintenance costs could be high, especially considering their age, which might make it challenging for them to manage. Just a thought. However, I'm not sure if the couple has other future plans; they might decide to sell it. Who knows!
No house tax in the area where they are. Only land. Or at least not the same in the US

They have considered everything. He said he is a shareholder to 4 companies. I think from the income alone is more than enough to cover for the maintenance. He also said 900USD for all the staff to ensure the house is well maintained👍

Some people are solving the worlds problems, creating life changing technologies, risking their lives, risking their saving and being rewarded for it. I am an Australian architect and know the company Big Ass Fans well. One time I was visiting a friend in Northern Luzon and went to church with them. I noticed a huge fan in the church nave and thought it looked like a Big Ass Fans fan so took a picture and zoomed in - yep - but because it was in a church they had scratched out the word ‘Ass’, so now it just said Big … Fans on it! 😂

I've had big houses and I've hated them.. I like a small compact house especially in my old age because I do not want to walk very far to get something or get to where i am going..hehe
Me I lived in a few 4k foot homes rattled around..Divorced 1 bedroom over a garage, we are very happy. I got really tired of managing properties 2 ago was 4 acres on a golf course all manicured paths. a nightmare with workers not performing. I love simple now. i am free..
Exactly, even a kitchen needs to be small so not too much walking between stove and sink, etc. Else cooking a meal trurns into a marathon

I'm genuinely curious why people would put their heart and soul into a forever home like this and then leave. Any real answers? If you have money on display you become a target of various interests. Family and friends, government officials, police or a change in tax laws? I could be wrong but this doesn't seem like the kind of home you just walk away from because you're bored.
Aside from my curiosity, this couple is fun to listen to and seam like a great team.
This is a huge house with a lot of maintenance to take care of… probably there was no issue with money building the house but the issue comes with the costs of maintenance over the years after you have already built the house. We should learn a lesson from videos on the internet featuring abandoned mansions and beautiful houses just left to rot by their owners. I would never build a house like this even if I have the money… I always think of mega houses like this as a trap. You put so much of your heart and soul building it and you get trap in it. I would rather spend my money on a very good sturdy car that can take me anywhere I want and I can wake up in a different place with a different view everyday😊

I don't think they have a problem with maintenance. This is the Philippines. If this is in the US, then no doubt. As the owner mentioned, it costs them $900 monthly for maintaining the whole property. That's not a lot. Because they pay them full time..

Very nice interview. Steve was very informative as was his wife. I am also an expat living in Cebu for 16 years. My wife and I have done many office fit outs in Cebu so we understand the complication when building a structure. Anyway enjoyed the video.
4million USD is a steal!. If u did that in the West coast, probably fetching to 30-50million
I built a small house for my girlfriend on Olango Island, we set the budget and low and behold, within a week the budget had to be expanded by 20,000php, I won't complain about the work they did though, 2 weeks after it was finished the house found itself right in the middle of the eye of super typhoon Odett and the only damage it suffered was from a tree falling on the porch roof, allowed air to enter under the roof peeling away part of it, the hut where she used to live was completely upside down and in shambles. Trees were knocked down everywhere, what was once a tropical paradise was turned into some hellish mess.
They are lucky because they hard working and earn much money so they build a beautiful beach mansion

It was a good interview as Steve was really good explaining everything about the house how it was built and the story of each appliance or decorations that they have in the house. One thing I hope the video shows is that when Steve explains or say talk about the 12 foot fan how i wish they just focus on the fan and show us the stuff that Steve talks about showing every cable to make that fan secured as its 100kg heavy. Otherwise its a nice dream house !

The problem with building a really expensive home in the Philippines is that you have very few buyers when you want to sell.

That’s why he will never sell it at that price. He will have to take a substantial discount in order to sell it. My former boss’s wife will inherit a house with a 2400 sqr meter lot in North Forbes Park. Even she will have a very difficult time selling that house and lot.

This man is expert in investing houses. He can easily buy a house at an instant. Meaning, he can easily sell and build if he wants to. I guess, his life is quite adventurous. But I believe that he will still come back in the Philippines at his retirement days. Because seldom Filipinas would want to live away from home. 💖🌻
