Unfortunately, there's only around 10 of them, and you'll be hearing about half that for most of the game. Just reusing the same small handful of level themes means they'll inevitably start to feel repetitive, regardless of quality. I wish they could have managed just a few more songs to use, but to be fair I don't know the circumstances around the game's development. Still, it just doesn't seem right to start up 6-1 with its foreboding theme shift only to hear that the song is just the cave theme.

ShadwSonic I guess that’s why Nintendo gave Baby Wario less than a few appearances. It was the first video game I was given to, as I wasn’t allowed to play video games - but my grandma still bought it for me - which let my guardians (my great aunt and uncle) see that video games are something that aren’t that bad and that Singtel game opened up my experiences to the video gaming world. Without it, my parents wouldn’t have bought me my DS, my GameCube, my PS3, etc. Thank you Yoshi’s Island for bringing me joy in a rough childhood of bullying and living in a small town hick town.

I loved this game when it came out. I remember feeling so sad after beating it, i went back and replayed it instantly. I always used to think that my favorite game character from my childhood was Mario, but after replaying Mario World and Yoshi's Island on GBA, i realized that i never actually liked Mario that much, i liked Yoshi. All my best memories of Mario were actually memories of Yoshi's Island.

It depends on what you mean by better. Yoshi’s island is definitely superior as a platformer though. That’s to be expected though as hallow knight is more of a metroidvania
This game means so much to me as an adult, so many memories and even a plush yoshi my step dad gave me. It made me happy to see you complete this again. Thank you so very much
This is one of the only games I can stand with the Completionist and say I completed this one too. Took me a few years but I eventually got 100s on ever single level.
I’m glad this game is getting attention from such a big channel! Yoshi’s Island is one of the best designed games ever made, and a personal favorite of mine. Thanks Jirard!
Found a copy of this for cheap at a pawn shop a few years ago and when I popped it into my Super NT I was overwhelmed with how great it looks. Super Mario World 2 is such an awesome game!
I swear I just looked up if you’ve done a video on Yoshi’s Island yesterday, so that’s insane lol but I freaking LOVE this game! My God! What’s crazy is that I remember being disappointed by this game a little bit when I was little because I liked Super Mario World more. But this game has only gotten better as I’ve gotten older :,)
Super Mario World is the first game I can definitively say I completed, but I never really played this game back then, so I’m currently playing this now
Without a doubt one of my top 5 games ever made, from the art style, music and gameplay this game is better in every aspect than SMW....It has the best & variable boss battles in any Mario game. They knew exactly how to maximize the Ones with the Super FX 2 chip...a masterpiece follow by Yoshi's games that cannot compete with this....Amazing Video sir...keep it up
I remember the Beard Bros playthrough of Yoshi's Stories. Jirard: "This game is for babies!" (proceeds to lose a ton of Yoshi) Hope you complete it for this channel one day, it was my first one so I have fond memories with it.
nah, that game is subpar and has the most annoying music for a yoshi game ever only followed by crafted world which also has like 2 songs that lasted the whole game
None of the yoshi sequels have never been as good as the original. Where as the Mario sequels you could say compete or are better than the originals. For me Mario 64 was king until Mario odyssey
@@KnifePIay wooly world was pretty great and i loved yoshis story as a kid though at this point i dont think it counts the same way mario sunshine has always been my favorite mario, I didnt even finish odyssey =/ but i suppose thats the nature of opinions eh?
It was such a coincidence that you put out this episode while I was in the middle of completing this game myself. I found the GBA version and I was so happy and excited since I hadn't played it in so long, I was craving this excellent game again. I just now recently completed it myself and checked out the episode (Okay, I did take a huge break. I get busy, ya know? It just makes me appreciate the absurd job that Jirard has more though, since it took so much for me to complete this game). Those last couple of levels were legit hard, which is why I enjoy trying to complete this game, as it feels a bit too easy otherwise. It's got a bunch of content, but completing adds more as well. I do enjoy that completing it adds more challenge, as this game drowns you in far too many lives. You even unlock the ability to replay the bonus levels, which can give you however many lives and items you want. That seems a bit much. Also, I'm pretty sure completing this game does more than just give you a new title screen though? I just completed it myself, and it gave me a cutscene for perfecting every world and it told me what number Yoshi I was (basically how many lives I needed to do it). It even keeps that Yoshi number on my file. Who knows? Maybe it'll update it if you complete it again with fewer lives needed.
As a kid i of course loved Mario World on the snes however im so happy they went the direction they did with Yoshis island for the "sequel" it had its own unique charm, feel and mechanics at the same time maintaining enough of what made mario world and Mario games in general such classics. I think they hit it out the park here
hands down my favorite platformer of all time also this game is one of the coolest games to watch TAS speedruns of. The egg throwing mechanic is like half the reason for that
I haven't seen this game on over 20 years when a babysitter owned it, and the Switch is the first Nintendo console I ever owned since the original NES. Playing the NES and SNES ports online has been incredible, and the most fun I've had with video games in a long time. Just beat it for the very first time a few weeks ago.
I never noticed how many enemies/characters were taken out of this game and implemented into the first Paper Mario like Bandits, crazee dayzees, Raphael ravens, the lantern wielding shy guy boss, Kent C. Koopa, etc
I remember getting this game for Christmas from my uncle. My cousin, brother and I worked the rest of their annual visit to 100% completing the game. It was one of my favorite memories especially since my cousin is no longer with us. RIP Sonny.
I know it sucks when you lose people 2012 I lost my brother 2013 I lost my dad. I'm all alone now but everything happens for a reason. God bless all of us. Stay safe. And yes Yoshi's Island is one of the best and memorable games ever made in my opinion. God bless you
Seeing you re complete Yoshi's Island gave me so much wonderful memories of how much fun i had playing through Yoshi's Island and how it was one of my most favorite Super Nintendo game.
I will say this, this is without a doubt, my favorite game of all time. It is my very first game with the super Nintendo jr i got for my birthday. I love everything about this game, other than Samus, Link, or Mario, Yoshi is my favorite Nintendo character thanks to this game. I love the cartoon aspect to this game; the gameplay, the bosses, and especially the music i love it all. I teared up when seeing the beginning music that brings precious memories to me i hold dear to my heart. It's a great game i always play again and again time after time.
Yoshi's Island Is one of my favorite SNES games! I'm so exited to see you complete it! I haven't seen many people talk about Yoshi's Island or the YOSHI SERIES in general. Now i can remember the SCREAMS of Baby Mario.
Yoshi games seems to always have had that "easy to just play through, but challenging if you go for everything" (like Super Mario) style. They are also in the category of "effective against crap days". Always loved Yoshi, even if Yoshi games are... of different quality with each new entry. Also, IT'S A FROG IN A CAAAAR!
3 years ago I bought the gba version on my Wii U and 100% completed it 2 months ago I subscribed to switch online and played the snes version again 100%and I would say either version deserves complete it ☺️
Oh my god this was my very first game, I played this as a two year old and this game was the reason I got into videogames in the first place. i replay this game constantly and I just recently completed it again a few days ago on my switch. I love this game to my core oh my god
When I see this game I always have to think about me playing it on the DS on car rides. The DS (or was it even the Gameboy version played on DS) had other babies aswell, from which I remember Baby Wario with his Magnet probably the most. Baby DK and baby Bowser were also quite interesting. I actually loved that there was a variety of characters - just like with Mario64 DS.
I think Super Mario World 2 is named that for the same reason that the first Wario game was subtitled Super Mario Land 3. It's for brand recognition. Though Yoshi was perhaps the most iconic part of SMW2, he wasn't the brand. But the interesting thing about SMW2 is that when you look at the spin-off series of games that exist because of this, it almost seems like they intended to make this game a bridge into a spin-off series.
My favorite mario game of all time! Im 31 and if all the mario titles THIS remains Supreme the music the levels holy hell its just incredible, in fact i still have the snes game in my room no super Nintendo anymore but tge game remains
Oh my god! Jirard actually reviewed my favorite Nintendo game of all time! :D Thank you so much for this! I have such vivid memories of my dad and sisters playing this when I was like 2 or 3 years old, and I became instantly hooked when I was old enough to play, and honestly, this game is probably the reason I have such a love for video games even to this day; over 20 years later. Sadly, our SNES died back in 2007, just before I could beat the last few levels, and then 11 years later, my boyfriend gifted me with the mini SNES for Christmas, which included Yoshi's Island! I was in tears when the original title card played on my screen. Thank you so much, Jirard, absolutely with all my heart, thank you. This means so much to me :))) Keep up the awesome work!
I don't really have a lot of nostalgia for this title but whenever I hear that music at 2:51 it always put a big smile on my face. It's just so wholesome and cute... haha
This games music is so good! The Athletic Theme from this game is one of my favorite pieces of Nintendo music ever up there with Coconut Mall from Mario Kart Wii
Not sure how people feel about the recent leak, but the whole point about how Yoshi's Island pushes forward and innovates on things like Super Mario World did gets a lot more meaningful when you look at those prototypes and see the original title wasn't called "Super Mario World 2", but "Super Mario Bros 5". I mean, it's technically the same thing in the end since in Japan SMW is actually SMB4 and this is a sequel to that still, but it really puts it into perspective that Yoshi's Island really was the next step for Mario at the time.
I had no idea this game existed. My first introduction to Yoshi was Yoshi's Story. I played SMW but I was just a kid and saw Yoshi as a nameless green dinosaur and didn't really give it much thought.
Im so glad TOVG got a sponsor to keep going. Plus the Frog in a Car plushie is a must own for me. Thanks for bringing it back. I want one so bad. Keep up the great work.
I have been playing Yoshi's Island a lot on my SNES Classic Edition. It's a game I never got for my SNES, but wish I did. This game looks and sounds beauitufl, and has a lot of challenging gameplay. I love this title. Incidentally, before Star Fox 2 was released in the SNES Classic, Yoshi's Island was a common donor cart for Star Fox 2 reproduction carts, because no other game has the Super FX2 chip besides Doom. Happy to have Star Fox 2 and Yoshi's Island in the same compilation!

nice to see you cover this again the old episode has a special place in my heart but this video is just as good and gets more to the heart of why it is so good I'm actually just about to replay it myself after I beat super mario world on the gba and this gets me that much more excited to do it again
Fun Fact: Those enemies weren't out to kidnap Baby Mario - they just wanted to play with him! ...Except the Pirana Plants. Beware the Pirana Plants, Baby Mario...
Fun fact, since you talked about Mario crying a lot: In the beta Yoshi would leak timers and Mario would silently crawl around on the floor. Since people that played the beta didn't know what to do, they added Mario's annoying cry to let people know that they need to pick him up
Just bought this game again recently and been playing through it and manit's great the music is amazing that level design is unmatched and the graphic style is gorgeous.
Fun fact. Yoshi’s Island isn’t considered a sequel in Japan. Outside of Japan, the game was rebranded as a sequel in fear that it wouldn’t sell well.

I’m glad this game is getting attention from such a big channel! Yoshi’s Island is one of the best designed games ever made, and a personal favorite of mine. Thanks Jirard!
Wow, a frog in a car is back (monotone voice). I can’t wait to ... Wait!!! It’s now 2 plushies!!!!! Must get it now! Just take my money!!!!
I have the most vivid of memories playing this game in my child hood with my mom and older brother. Hit with a wave of nostalgia again.
Found a copy of this for cheap at a pawn shop a few years ago and when I popped it into my Super NT I was overwhelmed with how great it looks. Super Mario World 2 is such an awesome game!
Yoshi's Island is my favorite game in the Mario franchise. So many good aspects. Not to mention the final boss was a twist. I could go on all day.
I didn't play all the way through Yoshi's Island until I got my SNES Classic Edition. Turned out to easily be my favorite in the whole collection!
I like how the Yoshi series peaked by Yoshi's Island 😂
Super Mario World is the first game I can definitively say I completed, but I never really played this game back then, so I’m currently playing this now
Fun fact: It's also officially considered to be Super Mario Bros. 5, as seen in early prototypes
That doesn't make it official.
so, sm64 is super mario bros 6?
Safe to say it lost that honor, as New Super Mario Bros. was also initially titled Super Mario Bros. 5.
@@scoutmclout4506 Officially no Luigi in that one, so no bros game.
@@katt-the-pig IIRC It was actually Advance 5
I remember playing this game for the first time on the SNES classic a few years ago,and it instantly became one of my favourite Super Nintendo games
This game was both my and Mario's childhood. Thanks for showing it the completionist love, Jirard!
Dude these soundtracks are so nostalgic
Also I love it when yoshi eats a watermelon and spits seeds at his enemies 🤣
Without a doubt one of my top 5 games ever made, from the art style, music and gameplay this game is better in every aspect than SMW....It has the best & variable boss battles in any Mario game. They knew exactly how to maximize the Ones with the Super FX 2 chip...a masterpiece follow by Yoshi's games that cannot compete with this....Amazing Video sir...keep it up
I agree! I played SMW after Yoshi’s Island and the bosses stood out to me - pretty much jump on them three times and that’s it 😂
I remember the Beard Bros playthrough of Yoshi's Stories.
Jirard: "This game is for babies!" (proceeds to lose a ton of Yoshi)
Hope you complete it for this channel one day, it was my first one so I have fond memories with it.
Try completing "Yoshi's Island DS" it's a proper sequel to Yoshi's Island and it has multiple babies to play as
nah, that game is subpar and has the most annoying music for a yoshi game ever only followed by crafted world which also has like 2 songs that lasted the whole game
None of the yoshi sequels have never been as good as the original. Where as the Mario sequels you could say compete or are better than the originals. For me Mario 64 was king until Mario odyssey
@@KnifePIay wooly world was pretty great and i loved yoshis story as a kid though at this point i dont think it counts the same way
mario sunshine has always been my favorite mario, I didnt even finish odyssey =/ but i suppose thats the nature of opinions eh?
Acedia Nihil very true everyone has there preferences.
@@KnifePIay Eh, Mario Odyssey was just ok, It couldn't grab my attention for very long. Didn't like the art style.
Yoshi’s face in the thumbnail express my emotions through this game.
Best video game ever created. Played it since a small child, still complete it once every year at least.
It was the first game I saved for and bought as a kid, so this will always be one of the most important games in my life
It was such a coincidence that you put out this episode while I was in the middle of completing this game myself.
Who knew that little baby Luigi would grow up to a Ghostbuster, a world-class championship racer, and the Mushroom Kingdom’s top sniper?
Glad to see you all still making videos. Hope your team stays safe and healthy!
As a kid i of course loved Mario World on the snes however im so happy they went the direction they did with Yoshis island for the "sequel" it had its own unique charm, feel and mechanics at the same time maintaining enough of what made mario world and Mario games in general such classics. I think they hit it out the park here
music in this game is TOP TIER specially the level select with the transitions and added instruments from world to world
hands down my favorite platformer of all time
also this game is one of the coolest games to watch TAS speedruns of.
I played this all the way through so many times when I was younger and this entire time i thought it was just called Yoshi's Island.
Loved this game as a kid, happy to see it still holds up.
Yoshi's Island Is one of my favorite SNES games! I'm so exited to see you complete it! I haven't seen many people talk about Yoshi's Island or the YOSHI SERIES in general. Now i can remember the SCREAMS of Baby Mario.
I must be the only one who likes baby mario's cry in this one. It's the sole reason i play the snes version because it's changed in all the others.
3 years ago I bought the gba version on my Wii U and 100% completed it 2 months ago I subscribed to switch online and played the snes version again 100%and I would say either version deserves complete it ☺️
Currently replaying this game on GBA. It’s so solid and well made.
Oh my god this was my very first game, I played this as a two year old and this game was the reason I got into videogames in the first place. i replay this game constantly and I just recently completed it again a few days ago on my switch. I love this game to my core oh my god
Jirard: saying something about the game.
Me: Vibing out to the music
So much nostalgia with this game. This is the first game I completed 100%.
12:32 - I would live and die for Yoshi's Island 2: Baby Luigi's Mansion
When I see this game I always have to think about me playing it on the DS on car rides. The DS (or was it even the Gameboy version played on DS) had other babies aswell, from which I remember Baby Wario with his Magnet probably the most. Baby DK and baby Bowser were also quite interesting. I actually loved that there was a variety of characters - just like with Mario64 DS.
That was yoishs Island DS the second game game out of the 3 but technically its the third game in the timeline
It's just so wholesome and cute... haha
Jirard = the only middle eastern person who doesn't like coffee.

I thought he was Italian
@@TrevRockOne i hope this is a Saved by the Bell reference lmao
Isn't Alex the italian one
@@TrevRockOne Does "Jirard Khalil" sound like an Italian name?
@@liodio346 yes
3:05 Don't forget this happened with Wario too, going from Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins to Mario Land 3: Wario Land.
This game reminded and reaffirmed my love of shy-guys ❤
Yoshi's Island - my favourite 2D Mario game. I think I have it on my pc, phone, 3ds, Switch and snes classic, I love it. And the art style is perfect
Best mario spin off hands down very indepth in terms of controls and way u transform into other vehicles, its dope
Agreeeeeddddd I LOVED THIS SOOOOO MUCH I WAS SO INVESTED IN YOSHI IT WAS EXCELLENT
Happy to have Star Fox 2 and Yoshi's Island in the same compilation!
earliest i've ever been. Jirard thank you and the entire completionist team for the years of content. I used to listen to your show in class and now 6 years later I put your videos on to calm my son to take a nap
nice to see you cover this again the old episode has a special place in my heart but this video is just as good and gets more to the heart of why it is so good I'm actually just about to replay it myself after I beat super mario world on the gba and this gets me that much more excited to do it again
Fun Fact: Those enemies weren't out to kidnap Baby Mario - they just wanted to play with him!
...Except the Pirana Plants. Beware the Pirana Plants, Baby Mario...
Why do i get the feeling that you're talking about
......'that'....animation
"The basic premise of playing someone other than Mario"
This is what Mario games need more of
Isn't that basically the premise of Odyssey?
@@Joseph-li3df Mostly, yeah. But you are still Mario
Whenever my brothers and I would hit one of those transformation blocks, we'd sing along to the little jingle. "♪ Foot Becomes A Nose! ♫"
I can still hear that baby's cries after all these years.
Fun fact, since you talked about Mario crying a lot:
In the beta Yoshi would leak timers and Mario would silently crawl around on the floor. Since people that played the beta didn't know what to do, they added Mario's annoying cry to let people know that they need to pick him up
This was one of the best games of my childhood!
>shows frog-in-a-car
Me: Huh, that's neat. I'm not a big fan of plushies tho.
>Jirard removes frog from car
Me: *I'LL TAKE YOUR ENTIRE STOCK!* :000000
Just bought this game again recently and been playing through it and manit's great the music is amazing that level design is unmatched and the graphic style is gorgeous.
Yoshi Island is my first ever video game I played. I thanked my dad for making my childhood awesome.
