That last bit about the drag increasing with less line is actually a really good point, so often its tempting to push it up as you see the line disappearing

If you’re trolling, is this rule of thumb for drag considering what the flesh of the fishes mouth can take? I have seen others suggest the same method but it would seem that the drag should be set enough to set the hook for you but not too high to pull a hook out in the fleshy part of the mouth. Especially high speed trolling.
What would be your suggestion for maximum drag when using 80 pound braid mainline with 50 yards of 150 pound mono as a top shot?
Please excuse the English system. Thanks for sharing. Like the videos.

Dumb question for you... I'm new to offshore fishing and conventional reels. I think I've been setting drag wrong. Do you fight fish in "strike" or use strike when pulling lures and go to full or near full when hooked up? I've been fighting fish in full position.

We use strike to fight the fish, and you can always go above it if you want to put a bit more hurt on the fish. Here is a video on how to set up game fishing gear, it has a good piece on the end about pre setting your drag. www.ultimatefishing.tv/home/video/142/getting-started-in-game-fishing

1:14 -- Holy shit is that true? About drag increasing as line capacity is reduced by a fighting fish?

Yeah, I don’t understand why either but drag does increase as line comes off the spool

Because as the spool size decreases the line tension has less leverage to spin it with, the drag setting doesn’t actually increase it just becomes more effective.

I was told sharks dont like tension that looks strong I'm confused
