Thanks for your advice. I think it's important to listen to any successful fisherman if you're serious about fishing, or anything for that matter. Well done
18lb carp on 2lb line with 22 hook, single maggot... You soon learn what drag is all about.... You also learn that walking up and down the bank of the lake is a good fitness regime for the heart 🙂 Great video as always Billy!
Oh yeah that's cool. Last summer I got a 40" pike on a 1" gulp minnow, 4 pound line and a ML rod. Drag becomes second nature after 2 or 3 decades of experience. Cheers
Good man billy I recently just came across you and your channel.great stuff from a fellow fisherman.great hounds and a few tope floating on the East cost from the shore at the minute.tight lines pal
@@Billyfishing_watch when I do i will want to catch the monsters monster.its all about the hunt haha.in all honesty I find the fish harder to find year by year here in Ireland but I see in England its helter-skelter with fish.anyway lads if you are fishing dont be keeping the bass that should not be kept.if you have to measure it to see if its legal dont fucking bother fuck it back 🤷this is for anyone just reading the comments and boys and girls can we take our rubbish home when we are fishing.billy you a legend 🙌
I lost out to what would have been my PB carp on Sunday due to not been good with my drag , went out again yesterday to a small runs water to get experience with the drag and what a difference!
Drag is important. I pretty adjust it like you do before hooking a fish vit rarely touch the drag while a fish is on. Unless it's obviously too loose or tight. Cheers Billy
Everyday is a school day! Never set it for the lure weight before, just the size of the fish I hoped to catch. Will definitely give this way a go. Be interesting to see how different it’s set from my normal tug and test way. Thanks again for more quality content 👍🏻
I recon for Wrasse and Pollack fishing you need to lock the drag up tight and lift the fish up from the bottom quickly or they'll just snag ya. Otherwise, bang on brother!
What I do in that situation, is palm the reel instead. Because a big fish will try to take lines sooner or later. If the drag is locked up he will bust you off. But there is always exceptions. Thanks Viking, fish on Brother 👍😁👌
Nice one, will try the strikey thing next lure session, I usually have it just tight enough not to slip on cast. Side note... Never thumb a multiplier spool with mono on, I once literally melted my thumb and the line trying to stop a tope spooling me when all I had to do was tighten up the drag 😡
Thanks Red, I have seen some crazy things this summer. A father and son on a pier. the father is teaching the son how to fish. the kid casts out. 7 minutes later the boy is still winding, I think to myself that was a hell of a cast. but then I hear the drag clicking away 👍🤣👌
Can i be honnest? This hasnt helped, maybe im confused or maybe its different for what i'm trying to do but o should throw my set up whatever it is and basically yank against the weight of the set up in the water? Is this similar to a baitcaster break where u want it right b4 ur set up drag the line by itself? Super uber newb learning the mechanics.

Thanks buddy, you need finesse for freshwater fishing. That's why I fish in the sea 👍😁👍

Thats a beautiful spot. What country is that in?
Hi Nick. That picturesque spot, is on the Dingle peninsula in Ireland. Thanks Brother 😁👌

Educated by the best I've lost a lot of salmon fucking about with drag

Basically it's just to make sure to drag is not to tight for the weight of the lure and the drag of the water, that's it. Thanks Brother 👍
@@Billyfishing_watch idk why but that makes it make sense, thank you sir for helping me learn to take better care of my first combo!
No probs 👌
