@@taelahharris7154 So I'm going into the Reserve. I started talking to a recruiter in June, went to MEPS in September then started looking at what jobs were available at the base I wanted to work at (Tinker AFB, OKC). I mentioned I was interested in cyber jobs before I could choose a job; there were two available (Cyber Systems Operations & Cyber Surety) but the Cyber Surety job was a 7 level so I didn't qualify. Right before I went to MEPS someone took the Cyber Systems job so I was out of luck when it came time to pick. My recruiter told me to wait until October to see if more jobs pop up at the beginning of the fiscal year. None did but the guy who took the Cyber Systems job decided to switch to SF and my recruiter saved it for me since it was available. There just happened to be a position available at the base I wanted so it's mostly luck and timing I think. If I didn't get that job I would've been a boom operator since the 507th is a refueling wing. Hope this helps.
I’m from the south but moved up to the north about 12 years ago... needless to say I wanna gtfo of here and experience more of the south... or west coast area. Always wanted to go to Hawaii.
Question because I didn’t see it in the comments. Before going to the recruiter, could I give the base a call and ask what jobs are needing to be filled and tell my recruiter I want that one? My thinking is to just pick a job that widely available at the preferred base.
I would say to study the Air Force ranks, airman’s creed, Air Force song, learn marching movements before-hand, and learn how to role socks. Also be ready to clip a bunch of strings off of your clothing for locker inspections. Those are the things I wish I would of practiced on before going in. Also be prepared to have a leadership role such as element leader, guidon barrer, dorm chief, etc. if no one volunteers for them, sometimes the MTI randomly picks people. Lots of things you learn during BMT but in my experience it took awhile for some people to learn things in BMT because they didn’t do JROTC. Also be ready to take 2 minute showers with other dudes, and eat your meal very fast, and have your morning routine rushed pretty much everyday. My suggestion: wake up earlier to shave or shave the day before, or maybe shower at night and not twice a day. Everyday during BMT you do dust down and details which is just cleaning the bay and washing everything like the floor, toilets, sinks, etc. Be prepared to kneel on the ground a lot as well, really hurts your knees after awhile, especially on concrete or gravel rocks. You will get through it though if you come in partially physically fit, don’t be one of those people that haven’t worked out a day in their lives because that makes BMT suck so much more.
would you always be in florida or can you request a transfer? is there a time limit you have to stay or what’s the deal with that? just curious, thank you

Is there a way to see bases overseas and check which AFSC’s most commonly go there? I really wanna be stationed in Lakenheath, UK when I go in the AF but I want to get a job that takes me there. Please help
I wouldent base your afsc off of a potential duty station you might get because it’s rare to get sent to your first picks. Hey, yes you can have a car at tech school. Usually your family member will have to drive it down in order to get it to you. Unless you decide to buy one while in tech school but all up to you and also depends on how long your tech school training will be.

Hey Nick! Quick question... this is probably going to sound like a dumb question but is Hawaii considered stateside or overseas? Also, when you go to tech school, for those who are married, do you know if they would begin receiving their BAH during tech school due to having a dependent?
I don't know about the second thing, but I can tell you that Hawaii and Alaska are considered overseas. Only the contiguous continental US is considered stateside
@@wolfgang2453 Ohhh ok gotcha. Thank you! So if I put all stateside bases on my dream sheet, and also ONE overseas base (Hawaii), considering what Nick said in the video, they could literally put me anywhere stateside OR overseas??

@@calebgibson9292 awesome stuff man England will be great! Thanks for watching appreciate it!
Back when I was in BMT I listed bases near my state because I wanted to be close to family. I didn't want to go overseas. The USAF sent me to Andersen AFB, Guam, 7,800 miles away. Many guys in my flight wanted overseas and they all got stateside assignments. I don't think they even consider our preferences. I was a 3C0X1, Communications-Computer Systems Operations. We're at every base.
Keep up with the great videos
Part of me just wants to do without my car- choosing all overseas locations for that reason 😅

The video was very helpful
I put in for Western US, SW US, Southern US, State Side and Hawaii. I got close…….England! Lolo😊😂.
I got lucky....I got assigned to Myrtle Beach AFB out of Tech School in 1984. That was my 1st choice. Then....the assignment God forgot about me and I ended up being stationed at my 1st duty location for 6 years. I updated my dream sheet in the fall of 89 and in Jan of 90....got my 1st overseas pick of Alaska. Spent the next 4 years 90 - 94 at Eielson AFB near Fairbanks, Alaska. LOL
I Shipout August 30th my dream sheet and I would do whatever to get station in Tampa, FL “Macdill Air Force Base.”

1.) Florida “MacDill AFB”
2.) Nevada “Nellis AFB”
3.) California “L.A AFB”
4.) Hawaii “Hickams AFB”
5.) Washington D.C “Andrews AFB”
6.) Arizona “Luke AFB”
7.) Colorado “Peterson AFB”
8.) Texas “Lackland AFB”

How to get the duty station you want... Don’t want any certain location.
Airman Nick "that's why it's called a dream sheet". It's to make you think you have a choice; but while you are in basic training, then going to your tech school you are constantly being evaluated. When you sign up for your AFSC of your choice does not mean that you will finish that way. I started as 81152 and did that that for several years, but was picked and sent to several other training centers for further training. You enlisted to serve your country like I did. I wanted to stay in the states and wound up in Turkey at age 19. Greatest gift USAF gave me made me was to grow up fast; I DO NOT REGRET THIS FOR A SECOND & WOULD DO IT AGAIN. (Buck)Sgt. Lyon L. Anderson (1987-1992). I stand tall and am proud that they built me into a 25 year retired police officer and Medic. I joined during non-conflict & got called back from leave for desert storm wound up a door gunner for PJ's. Do not be young and uninformed & please do not disgrace the USAF.
Great explanation but if you could have a visual map so we could see what you're talking about.

Leave for bootcamp January 26 😳🥶 personnel 🥴

I appreciate your videos the information is super helpful, I was wondering at what point during tech school do you receive orders, and what is your afsc
Thanks happy the videos are helping out; For us we received our orders after 30 days being at tech school.
But first things first is find out your afsc and then finding where they can get stationed at will come easy and your recruiter should be able to name off some spots but I don’t think there is a site or way to see which goes where.

Airman Nick...can you direct me to a link where I can see what bases are open to my job (4B031 Bioenviromental Engineer) at skill level 3?
I'm currently talking to a recruiter about going in as Air Transportation! I'd prefer to be stationed over in Delaware, Ohio, North Carolina, northeastern stateside locations. Any idea how in demand that job is in the Northeastern/East Coast bases?
Awesome choice, I honestly have no idea how in demand it is in those regions. They could send you anywhere for it tbh maybe your recruiter may know but I personally wouldent get my hopes up too high bc it’s hard to get your first duty station pick.
Ohio sucks don't come here lol
So when you graduate BMT, do you have to go to tech school???
“AF NEEDS COME FIRST “!!!!!! That’s why they call it a DREAM SHEET….
Be a missile maintainer and I'm sure you can get Minot.
Hey I was wondering if you could bring your car with you when you go to tech school or how does getting a car work ?
Hey, yes you can have a car at tech school. Usually your family member will have to drive it down in order to get it to you. Unless you decide to buy one while in tech school but all up to you and also depends on how long your tech school training will be.
I just found out today that I got the first base on my dream sheet...😭 Andersen AFB in Guam🥳

Haha they will bring you back
Thanks for the video! Is there a website where I can look up where my dream jobs could be located? I’m interested in 1. Behavioral Sciences/Human Factors Scientist and 2. Aerospace Physiologist but I have no idea where those two jobs could station me. Thanks in advance!
@@madhuvalli9936 I think they *could* put you anywhere regardless, but regardless of what you put on your dream sheet odds are pretty high that you'll get stationed stateside anyway. The statistic I saw is that you only have about a 20% chance of getting stationed overseas. So if you want to be stationed stateside or Hawaii, I would say just put those and you have a pretty good chance of being stationed stateside.
Personally I'm going to put all overseas on my dream sheet, cuz I just really wanna get out there and travel, but we'll see if that works out for me
@@madhuvalli9936 yes overseas is Hawaii and you should get your bah once you get to tech school if it doesn’t start right away go to finance and have them get it started for you because you should receive it since you are married.
Is airforce overmanned now?
No matter what you hear, only put down the bases you want. The Air Force DOES Not send you opposite of were you ask for. If you want Florida, put it down. If you want Minot, put it down
