My heart is never recovering from this. Neil was my favorite character and I was the most emotionally invested in his & Claire's story than any other couple's. Never forgiving the writers for so unnecessarily killing of one of the best characters ever and robbing us of one of the most beautiful couples ever written.

When the writers say they wanted to make the show more realistic and painful, they forgot that fiction is suppose to give an escape from the tyranny of real life. Honestly killing Dr.. Melendez was a horrible decision, because he was one of the few characters that hooked the audience to the show. I am done with the show.

Doctor Melendez was such a commanding presence along with Doctor Andrews, I thought he was indestructible. Seeing him go like this is heartbreaking.
The way he says “I love you too.” And the smile when he strokes her hair was just so full of tenderness and I’m SO sad they killed him off… my housemate and I are just devastated as we loved his character! :(

If it was Lea who was killed off, i would've accepted it without the slightest wince.

Why are people so pressed that she says she's no longer watching the show...last i checked there isn't a "show playbook" and no one is obligated to keep watching a show to prove they're a "true fan"....keep in mind (persons commenting about being a true fan and saying "you didn't really watch the show if you only watched it for one couple") people enjoy shows for different reasons and obviously all the reasons won't be the same...a lot of viewers enjoyed the slow build of this couple whether it was from season 1 or 3...and yet the writers did this and continue to force shaun and lea down our throats...but i guess we have Shaun and Lea to look forward to in season 4...cue eyeroll...my bad...this isn't a romance show...i meant we have the cases to look forward to because its not like the writers have been forcing romantic storylines in the show from the get go she said sarcastically.

This was one of the most petty deaths ever. There was no ramp towards it. He got diagnosed, confessed to claire and died in HALF an episode. It was too rushed which made it more painful. It also didnt fit with the show, like they literally fixed glassman, did the complex heart surgery and seperated those twins but the writers decided that melendez didnt even deserve a CHANCE

Honestly, when I seen this, my first thought was "he's probably focusing on his career and has some other projects coming up, so he just can't stick to the Good Doctor and decided to leave". When I found out that it was producers' decision to cross him out of the show, then I came to the realization that he was simply stealing the show from the main protagonist, so they were sort of forced to "put him down" to put the focus back on Shaun and his life... Well, maybe it's good for the plot (at least from the producers perspective), but it's definitely not so good for the show.
and if Melendez was stealing the show in season 3, it is because they put Shaun in one tantrum after another, which made him more annoying than awkwardly funny.
i'm tired of Dr.Shaun now, with the same problem, he never learn. Over and over again, i want something new, something challeges

This death made no sense. This pissed me off more than I could have imagined. I've watched 3 seasons rooting for him and claire, watching all the signs of them liking each other coming down to them both confessing their love to each other and then for him to die in the season finale? You screwed us over with the relationship we never wanted because there was no chemistry there (I'm looking at you Dr Lim) and then to just croak? Ugh I might not even watch season 4.

My mom and I both watch The Good Doctor. She saw the finale before me and told me to come see here after I watched it. I was sitting in my bedroom, sobbing extremely loud. I came downstairs and she hugged me and we just kind of cried together. Note that both of us are very tough people. I didn’t even cry when my grandfather, who I loved very much, was dying of cancer. But Melendez got me.
Even though this is their story and they can do whatever they want with it, they just lost thousands of fans.

David Shore even confirmed there was no real reason for Melendez to die. Simply that he wanted a meaningful death, a death that would hurt the other characters. I’m glad I got three seasons of it, I’m done. Now all I have is Prodigal Son.

If Melendez is really dead, Claire is devastated. They were perfect for each other. Then, Park is leaving, Shaun got his happy ending, Morgan can't do surgery anymore... why is there even a need for a season 4? I feel so sorry for Nicholas Gonzalez, he deserved so much better. He put so much work and passion into Melendez, no wonder he was stealing the spotlight. His performance was phenomenal.

This is sooooo devastating! They should have given them at least one kiss! One kiss!! Is that so hard to understand?! Neil was exactly the type of man Claire needed. After so many people (even herself) hurt her, she was finally on the way to be completely healed in her relationship with Melendez. I just can't watch her having some other love interest, what is definitely gonna happen in the next seasons. Neil was a great surgeon and the best person who just really wanted to start a family and have children and Claire would be the perfect wife for him. And I'm just asking - WHY???!!!!!😭😭😭
Let's talk about this for a moment. After I found out that Nicholas Gonzales (Dr.Melendez) DIDNT want to leave. He actually felt he could do much more with Dr. Melendez as a character and he doesnt really know WHYY they decided to write him off. Really....quite frankly pisses me off. Because this doesnt really open any doors....doesnt deepen the plot....doesnt move things along in any damn way! If anything they should have killed leah.....having shaun grieve with that and him finding someone who doesnt take him almost dying to realize their feelings for him!? Also are they gonna acknowledge the awful things they both said to eachother or are they just gonna forget about that? Anyways back to Melendez, just WHY. Yall had us all geared up for him and claire to be together and this happens!? Now what. Claire already lost too much. I was hoping she would tell him she loved him cause she thought he was gonna die. and then plot twist he lives and they have to deal with knowing they both have feelings for eachother. And obviously dr. Lim still does too and what would that look like!? BUT I GUESS WE WILL NEVER KNOW! Okay I'm done being crazy. Quarantine is getting to me. Lol and this didnt help

Perfectly said... They really should've killed Leah .... I really liked her character until the point she behaved like she has no respect for Shaun... But writers killed Melendez like he didn't matter at all... I don't know what's going to be the point of watching next season if there's going to be any.... Dr. Park will leave, Morgan's career is over... Melendez is no more... All they have left is the love story of Shaun and Leah.... Bulllllshittttttt!!!!

I never comment anything here on UA-cam, but now I simply have to. This is the worst season finale ever. I mean, I’ve been in love with these two the moment I watched their first scene. I was so glad things were finally happening between them and then they did this stupid and meaningless drama. It was totally unnecessary, dumb and wrong. I have never been so upset. Claire has been through a lot, her mother died, she was broken, Melendez helped her and stood by her side and now what? You kill him too? Are you insane? I’m not watching season 4, that’s for sure, because I refuse to watch her grieving. I know that creators definetly won’t read this, but if they do, I would like them to know they ruined great lovestory and disappointed lots of people around the world who loved Claire and Melendez. Hope you enjoyed it. I won’t forgive you. Ever.

I’m upset. Melendez was the only one that got through to Claire after her mom died and she was finally able to return to her normal self because of Melendez, AND NOW YALL KILL HIM???? Why?? W H Y???? Claire just got better and was ok with everything, and now you do this to her??? WHAT WAS THE REASON?? I had to watch this scene twice and I cried even more the second time because I can not believe they actually got rid of Melendez. And they had the audacity to end with Lea and Shaun getting together as if that would make everything ok. Their storyline was getting annoying to me and that pissed me off even more smh.

I watched the turkish version. Mucize Doktor. And in that version dr Melendez's right hand was hurt and he couldn't operate anymore. Now he's learning to operate with a left hand. That happened in this version? What was the end? Is he dead? When?

So true like the way he looks at her is so precious and speaks the love he has for her. I’m hoping this is a dream or something cause this is way too messed up. This show will for sure lose its fans and its ratings.
this scene had me sobbing. no one should ever have to tell someone they love them and lose them all at once. I’m not one to cry during shoes but this got me sobbing. it breaks my heart that they were only able to admit their love for one another when it was time to say goodbye forever. you could see his love for her in all the little things he would do and say and my only wish would be that they could at least have a little more time together. gosh I’m going to miss dr. Melendez, he was by far one of the best characters in the show.

I'm done with this show too. Nothing about his "death" makes any actual sense, like at all. The story lines in the finale were a bit rushed, especially Melendez's. They baited TFFFF outta #Melendaire all season long to only kill Neil for what, shock value??? Aside from Shaun, Melendez was THEE one to watch, there was so much to unpack with him that I was getting excited to see not just with Claire but with Shaun too. Killing Dr. Melendez was the most idiotic thing they could've done to this show and it will earn them an early cancellation (rightfully so) if they don't fix this shit. Nicholas Gonzalez is such a talented actor who is EXTREMELY essential to this show and they did him dirty. Until they do right, like many others, I won't be watching season 4 either...

I sobbed to this.. it was really heartbreaking and I'm not even claire or Melendez so I can only imagine how painful this was to their respective characters, finding love, declaring it and then losing it at the same time..
From the moment - episode when Shaun told Claire that she was unconsciously flirting with Melendez, even before that, I thought - these two should be together. They are both small and cute and sweet, nice doctors, and... But now they just kill the guy - why!? They had real chemistry. This is just very, very sad.

I didn't take any of it seriously until the final scene with Claire. Just brushed it off and thought he would be okay. Read a comment saying the actor was confirmed for a 4th season so I was chillinnn. Couldn't fathom that they would kill of Melendez. How are you going to invest so much screentime and character development in this one season to just kill him off like this? I'm absolutely shocked. They really just lost a shitload of fans.The episode ended for me with Claire and Melendez confessing and in my head Melendez makes a full recovery. Y'all straight up clowns for this. Season 4 who?

I have never cried over a show in my entire life before this scene. I couldn’t even be happy in the the next scene. My heart literally broken not only for Melendez and the end of his career but for Claire, the girl just lost her mother and then months later loses a possible partner in life. Why cant there ever be a happy ending for her? I’m still recovering from watching that episode. #MELENDAIREFORLIFE
Omg same! I honestly had a whole mental breakdown. That episode was one of the saddest episodes in a tv show that I've watched in my whole life.
Shore did it for effect. What he did was formulate a quality character that was exemplified by a brilliant actor at the top of his game into something he could never have imagined... and what did he do, piss all over it in one fell swoop. It is misguided sensationalism. Massive Song of Ice and Fire fan, so no stranger to tragedy; fair enough, but this guy seriously fukt up an entire series in one dumb move. You need a big character death, you do not take out your star turn. Akin to GRRM having Danny Targaryen toasted by one of her dragons in the third book, or Lucas killing Luke in Empire Strikes Back. Good Doctor never really recovered IMO, Season 4 was a massive woke joke. It basically died along with Melendez.
The show has never been as good without Melendez. He was wonderful!
