I have the same issue. My iPad doesn't charge anymore. I think USB-C has this problem much more regurarly than the lightning port.
I feel the same way. I take mail ins if you want to get that repaired
how much you cost for that bro?
I solved it by buying a Magic Keyboard, I wanted to buy it anyway, but charging through the keyboard does still work.
Wow what a genius. Thank you for this! Keeping hope alive. Will probably have to get port ubs-c port fixed, but I found that if you squeeze the base and screen portion of the charger while its plugged in itll work. Until that stops working will i have it replaced. Thank you again!
Thank you for watching! And commenting
Thank you soooooooooooooooooo much for figuring this out yourself and sharing the knowledge. Apple wants to charge 700+ for something SO common to occur considering how easily the port can be bent. I hope you have a fantastic day --Somebody in TN that you just helped save $700+ you're awesome
I’m glad to help
I just want to write to say thank you so much for this video ,apple service wanted to charge me over 13,000 pesos Mx the equivalent of 680 dollars to repair the flex …couldn’t afford it ,left me no choice I got all the tools you had in video and did it myself …thank you great video man …
That’s what I make these videos for. Thank you for watching
Cant believe Apple told me this issue cant be fixed and I have to buy a whole new ipad pro. Smh no trust for their vulture like tactics at this point
thats their response with so many issues, i wonder sometimes how many people lost data because they never took the time to reach out to the proper repair shop :(
Wonderful wonderful detailed informative video. Without annoying music and fast-forwarding the mundane bits.
I decided I didn't want to take the risk pulling on the glass myself but now I know exactly what is involved if I did go ahead myself.
Thank you so much for the great detail!
Thank you for the super. Your support means the world to me
I noticed you did not place new adhesive before closing. Why?
Apparently I didn’t get it on video. I
Always replace the adhesive. Often I’ll replace the adhesive that comes on my screens with tesa 61395 because it works so well
Bro I had a iPad Pro and it the charger port broke and I went to several repair shops and they said they could not fix it
What model. And I would be happy to look at it
@@repaironwheelsI lost it💀
i need that repair. I live in san diego. what is the price for the repair

Is the battery isolation tool absolutely necessary?
I’d say so. You need a way to disconnect current from the motherboard. Just because a device is off there is still electricity running through the board.
Utube helped me with electrical tape!!!!!!!
Electrical tape?
link to buy the replacement parts, please?

glad i found your video! i went to apple and they said “you can’t replace it because it’s soldered on the ipad” and told me to replace the whole thing for $400 and i said no. well now in know it just 2 screws holding in place…
Even if it was soldered like it is in other models, it would still be replaceable
I’m glad the video helped, thank you for watching
Apple told me the same thing but I would have to pay 799.99 for a replacement 😒
@@acw608 lying bastards, Apple that is
Do you think you know if my iPad needs a battery replacement or a charging port replacement ? It’s been dead for at least a month now and no matter what charger I use it just does nothing it’s dosent work with any charger i use
You won’t know until you swap out one or the other
Thank you so much for this video. With this guidance I was able to change the port and I also needed to replace the cracked screen. Unfortunately the ipad still doesn't charge from that new port but Im using the keyboard stand to power it up until I figure it out.
Sometimes cd3217 is the issue not the port. Unfortunately that job requires soldering, pouring it outside the skill set of most DIYers or even repair shops
I’d be help if you mail it in
Hi, terrific video ! Thank you. one question, how do you know its the charging port or a battery? The battery symbol shows , but one charge. I am beginning to think it's a battery issue and not a port issue. Then I can order the right part if you can help me with this question, thank you again !
generally the battery wont go from working to not working overnight unlike the charge port there are exceptions but the charge port goes bad a lot more than the battery does on this model. you could always order both and return the part that wasnt needed (assuming they let you) if its not that it would most likely be a board issue. if thats the case id be happy to take a look at it if you mail it in
I slowly took apart my ipad Pro 4th generation and replaced the charging port just like you have done here and now it will not charge at all. I am so frustrated. I work on this daily because I am an illustrator and now I am left with a brick of an ipad pro. I will say that before I replaced the port the old port was all messed up but would charge if at an angle or jiggled around, now nothing charges it. If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it and would appreciate any help! It's only 2 years old so this is extremely frustrating.
If you send it in I’d be happy to look at it no charge for the diagnostic. If I can’t fix it I’ll send it back no cost to you
I hate working on Apple devices man, removing the screens on iPads without damage is very difficult unfortunately :/
That isclack is a game changer. Knock on wood it’s been a few years since
I cracked a screen while opening
@@repaironwheels Problem is, I accidentally cut a bit too far, damaging the stupid ribbon cables, ugh.. you get better at this stuff overtime at least. By the way, do you by any chance happen to have a link to one of those plastic battery blockers man??
www.ifixit.com/products/battery-blocker
hello is there a way to test the usb port with a multimeter? i am testing an ipad same model but with no power
My Microsolder skills come up short here sorry. If you’re going to use a multimeter you are better off getting your reading directly off the board. That’s as far as my expertise ends. Sorry
I saw two gold points next to the battery port can I use those to measure voltage?
I’m horrible at diagnostic work on the logic board level. I’m not going to be of much use sorry
@@repaironwheels hey dont worry i appreciate ur help
I have the second iPad Pro model from 2019, is my usb port soldered or a loose plug?
Soldered on. I can do that repair if you want to mail it in. Email/call me for a quote
My details are in the video description
what model is the charging port? i need the specifics so i know what parts i need for the ipad pro 5th generation. maybe also provide a link for more details of the charging port?
theres is only one charge port for the 12.9 5th gen, as for parts i use a vendor that only sells to businesses. if you are just a normal diyer and not a repair business i would suggest ebay
I was upgrading to ipados 17 and now my iPad is locked in recovery mode. When I plug it to my computer it says USB device needs more power... Can I fix this by changing the usb port?
I would assume so. It seems odd that you have a ‘hardware issue’ after performing a software update. I’d suggest back dating to iOS 16 to rule out if you still have a software or hardware issue
@@repaironwheels I think I had that issue previously itself. Because it wasn't getting recognised in Recovery Mode. I flashed using 3Utools in normal mode. It was working pretty well, and still charges using a normal PD charger. Will try to change the USB port and see. Thanks for the reply
Is it really necessary to disconnect the screen ? Also, what's the point of the battery isolator ?
It’s always a good idea to disconnect the battery whenever you are connecting or disconnecting anything from the board, helps to avoid accidentally bridging 2 lines/pins
Most models of iPads Dont have a connector for the battery so you need to use an isolator tool
Disconnecting the screen is very little work and will avoid accidentally tugging or tearing the flex. Is it necessary no. But would you really want to hold up the screen the whole time while swapping the port then removing the adhesive from the frame then prepping the frame and adding adhesive? Wouldn’t it be far easier to disconnect 4 flex cables and set aside a slightly expensive part
Only tools me 3.5hrs to fix mine😭 better slow then fast tho
At least you finished
Will this work on a 12.9 fifth generation ipad pro
My iPad is a year and four months old the charger port went out and Apple wants $800 and that gets me a refurbished iPad they don’t actually repair it
The labor is the same but the part is different
I’m 175 for that repair. My contact details are below if you’d rather not take it on
Is it necessary to apply adhesive to close everything after the repair?
It’s highly suggested as there’s nothing to hold the screen to the frame.
How much would it cost for you to do this repair on my ipad?
134 including return shipping
Thank you man
Glad to be of service
where do you buy your parts at?
Mobilesentrix
But you need to be a business and have the proper docs
Do you allow people to send you their iPads for repair?
Absolutely. Feel free to reach out

Where did you get the magic glass tool? I couldn’t find it online. I found the suction cup tool on Amazon.
Get the ifixit jimmy. I can’t find the magic glass anymore
I use that tool in all my videos moving forward. There’s a link on my page
Why are you disconnecting/reconnecting flex cables without isolating/disconnecting the battery before? Is it different than iPhones where you don’t need too?
It’s nearly impossible to get to the battery without disconnecting the top flex. As a general rule you should always disconnect the battery
He’s right that’s the only way to do it. Just remember to power off the device first. Lol man I just use plastic cards and sesamo tool your suction and tweezers to take off adhesive scares me but whatever works. I’ve been doing this for years and I wanted to ask you if you ever had to replace the back camera lens on the 12.9 4th gen pro. I had a customer come in and I can’t find a video I’m trying to do it without removing the back camera and taking the whole thing apart. Thanks.
Did you not have to disconnect the battery first
Generally that’s the first thing I do. On this model it’s the second thing as you need to disconnect the front mic als sensor first
It looks like you didn’t add any new adhesive to the screen or chassis. Is that correct?
I definitely did. I just didn’t show it in the video, right around 9:30 you can see the black strips show up which is Tesa tape, i also use 3m adhesive primer, sorry for not including it in the video
It’s possible I forgot to record that, not sure why. I usually do in my other iPad repair videos
One word for the adhesive questions: Otterbox.
Can you elaborate just a little bit?
Would you be able to fix mine for me 🙏🏽
Absolutely. Call or text me 7609634948
in which temperature was set your heat gun?
300° C
Thank you for this video and your time, I now know how to remove the iPad screen I have had many struggles with the Air 2 and 3 but not anymore lol Keep up the good work and videos dude
Glad to be of service
I need you to replace mine. The charger input doesn't work.
Glad I found this video, same thing happened to my device, went to Apple and to a local repair tech who said that model has the charging port soldered so can’t replace it.
Even the soldered ports are replaceable. More difficult, but still replaceable. I’m glad my video was able to help

My iPad charges really irregularly. It says it’s charging, a second later it doesn’t. I’ve tried different cables and chargers, but no succes. Then I replaced the USB-C connector, checked if it worked before I put the screen back, it worked flawlessly. After placing the screen back, the problem persists 😓😓😓 Do you have any idea what could cause this problem?
If you replaced the port and the issue persists it’s more than likely a logic board issue

@@repaironwheels I was told so by another repair guy on the phone, and by other people :( I't's going to look like I need a new one, because if there would be any chance of coulance from Apple, that'd be gone now that I've opened it myself... How likely do you think it is to be battery issue?
@@repaironwheels Thanks for the link! I live in the Netherlands though, so I don't think I can ship it for under €50,- but I'll look into it 😅😅
It’s already open so trying a battery wouldn’t hurt. Find a shop that does Microsoldering in your area and see if you can get them on the phone

How long do it usually take for the iPad to power back on. It’s been dead for months now
Most devices die around 3.6v but the battery can drain even further so if it’s been dead for a few months it could take an hour just to get to approx 3.6 before it will even turn on
@@repaironwheels still haven't powered on any ideas on what I can try
Without having eyes on its a bit difficult. It always helps to have a known good of something (charging cable, charging dock flex, battery, etc) with which to compare it to. If you don’t have a usb amp reader id suggest getting one. They are pretty cheap and will tell you if the device is actually taking a charge. For all you know it’s not
