@scottykilmer Scotty please I need your help I drive a 97 Dodge Dakota V6 sport and I'm having problems with my cigarette lighter socket it works and the fuse is fine it's just it's so finicky to use it to the point where it's barely worth using I'm not sure if there is a way to clean it or if i should just replace it altogether please help 🥺
Even if you have an old CB you should look into getting the one Scotty has in his link here because the FCC recently authorized FM mode which reduces noise and I looked at this link and this one has both AM and FM
Not sure if anyone else has had any issues but that website for the DND scan tool seems like a scam. I bought one for $89 and the payment went through. Got an email saying the payment failed and to try again but with a 10% discount code. Original payment did go through on my banks end with no refund issues. Zero responses from support email from website. Their 24/7 expert phone number on the website is the phone number for a Moroccan fashion store.
You need to take off the website for the DND Echo scanner tool. It’s a scam website.

LOVED the CB radios! So much fun! Years ago, driving Christmas Eve, 4 hour trip, friendliest happy truckers! Even car drivers. ❤️❤️❤️
Back in the day ALL truckers carried CB radios…today only a fraction do. These new age drivers and NOT professionals, just meat in the seat…and prefer to use car GPS and get stuck on dead-end country roads, under low bridges, etc. I always had a CB because real-time road conditions up ahead were ALWAYS available. Not only that, but local REACT groups monitored channel 9 and would actually help stranded motorists. I abandoned CB altogether since the only ones left on there are losers engaging in some extreme profanity.
Isn't it a shame that real truck drivers are almost extinct.

Today, they aren't truck drivers, they are just steering wheel holders and most trucks are automatic transmission and automatic transmissions are for millennials

Had a radio shack magnetic antenna, cb radio that slipped in the armrest with a 12 volt plug. The antenna could be adjusted to full strength for the radio. This was 25 years ago. Sure do miss Radio Shack.
Old Radio Shack could've truly thrived in maker economy...too bad they opted to become a consumer electronics peddler.

1) Few people still use CB, the new hotness is GMRS.

If you like working CB I highly suggest you study for an amateur radio licence, you will love it, and while there is LIDs it's no where near as bad as CB is in the US.
I'm a ham, too, but he is mainly promoting CB as entertainment AND roadside assistance. Without having an open VHF/UHF ham repeater in range, I'd bet you are far more likely to get a response on CB although handhelds with their standard antennas have horrible range. His use of an external, magnetic mount rooftop antenna is the only way to go.
You can keep your ham radio for which you need the ham radio license. Most of us don't pass the test to get the license needed..
If we going that way, may as well get a real commercial license and become a professional. I've built, maintained, program directed, and was chief engineer for over 15+ radio and TV stations, many LPFM and LPTV for disenfranchised communities

I've been using an OBD II dongle and phone app for a couple of years. They work great.
I was a Feeder Driver for UPS in the early 2000's, that is what they called a truck driver and I would mostly listen to the CB radio. Maybe holla at some passing teamster every now and then. Just wondering if truckers still use them.

CB radios don’t need phone numbers to dial someone directly! These are great for if you don’t have anyone to call and need help and with CB you know they’re not far away! And you can get help quickly
Scotty. I own a hand-held CB radio purchased in 1992. Driving through Fort Worth, Texas I commented, "Whooo-wheee, that stockyard really smells." A trucker replied, "I like that smell." Still laughing to this day.

1:20 Two good reasons for a CB. Companies can tell you when and which door to back to and other users can alert you to any issues with your vehicle or roadway. Most women other than ones searching for Mr. Right disguise their voice for safety reasons. Visit your local truck stop over the weekend with a CB to get an ear full of truck stop bandits. That'll be more than enough.

If you need a good simple OBD2 reader I always recommend blue driver it’s been the best I’ve used
what do you think about the Innova OBD2 readers? I have a bluebird driver but for some reason it didn’t detect my srs light I had on. I ran the test multiple times and nothing came up but the light was still on the dash. I’ve been considering getting a 2nd obd2 reader in case the bluebird can’t read it.

Used CB’s many many years sure it’s better than nothing incase of having trouble or a emergencies but, I changed over the ham radio and enjoy it a lot better sure had to study and take my test to get a ham license but I talk all over the world now and have a lot further reach than CB’s did but any of them could help in a emergency period.

Allow me to "one up" Scotty; found one in a Thrift Shop: the "whose shootin' match"...radio, cable, antenna, mic. Everything. Lady sold it to me for $5. That's right, FIVE DOLLARS. And it works just fine!
I bet it doesn't have the recently authorized FM mode so a lot of the channels will start sounding like gibberish

All those wires on the CB radio instantly turned me off right away.
In Australia we use CBs for police radar detection. And no licence needed.
I'd rather have an old analog CB because there are fewer components that will eventually fail. I'd rather have mine hardwired into the car so I don't have to worry about a bad plug.

Back in the late 70’s we had a CB radio in each car and a base unit in the house. Used to sit and talk to all sorts of people.
