I just watched part 2 for the first time in probably 20 years. I forgot how terrifying that movie was. Such a great movie and looked great on my 4k sony tv!
Jason X also got a new 2K scan. The picture quality for 6,7, and 8 are still better than the previous tin set. Each film has its own disc which lets the films have tons of breathing room. The bitrates are in the mid to upper 30’s which destroys the previous bitrates for these films.
I wished they would've remastered one of my favorites, Part VI Jason Lives!
Ikr, Jason Lives is the best one in the franchise.
I absolutely love this set. Just received my replacement discs last week which are fixed. No issues with them at all. Let’s hope an Elm Street set is in the works!!
I know, right? I would love an 'Elm Street' set produced by Shout. There were rumors recently along with some pretty elaborate stock photos, but Shout's Twitter said nothing is in the works currently. I'd really love to see a 4K set for 'Friday' & 'Elm Street,' but if we do, it's likely to be released one at a time...like the original 'Friday' out in September.
@@wisemandaryn5953 there's a UA-camr by the name of Christian Hanna Horror that I've been following for years. Dude's got a nice channel if you want to check him out. Anyway, he told me the Nightmare set is coming. He said he couldn't say anything else or give details, but that it is on the way. All we can do is sit back and wait.
Jason X actually did get a new scan, it was another 2K IP scan

I am aware of the issues with a few discs from this set. Missing audio, a missing gore scene, etc. - I know that’s not ideal! I’m waiting for Shout Factory to issue a statement but I’m sure they will make it right.
That being said, I didn’t want a couple minor mishaps to detract from what is an excellent set. Still amazing work here from their team.
Apart of not having new scans, does the compression of those is less versus previous box? As Part VI & VII, and the JGTH and X where on the same disc. Also is good to note that this time all the extras are on actual BR discs, the tin box recycled the DVD disc from the Crystal Lake to Manhattan DVD set.

@@samnewsome3847 it absolutely can. The Columbia Classics set was missing an entire disc. It was still excellent work. Physical media releases like this should be embraced and we should be patient if there are some minor issues (which I’m sure will be addressed). Being so negative isn’t going to help promote the physical media community...

@@samnewsome3847 it’s more like missing one sentence in a 50 page essay and grading it an F because of that. You realize that what’s missing here is like, a tiny portion of this entire set.
Thanks for reviewing these this week! I really went back and forth on buying this set (canceled my pre-order, then decided to buy it a week later), and I still really question the value of it given that I already owned the 8-disc set and the '09 movie, and only five movies had new transfers. But, seeing it all packaged like it is, I'm happy to have it on my shelf. The artwork, original covers, and even the nice spine detail/consistency is much appreciated. And it's going to be great revisiting the first four. I watched part 1 last night and it did look really clean and colorful.
Would love to see some side-by-side shots of parts 1-4 compared to their previous blu-ray release.

You make a great point. Both of the Halloween box sets from Shout Factory are out of print. There are so many studios involved with all the films.
After 2 weeks of being delayed from FedEx I finally got this! Popped in the 1st one, and the transfer is quite amazing for being a Blu-ray disk. Hope to see an all 4k set, but it may not be that much of an upgrade. Fantastic job Shout!
Jason X has a new 2K scan as well and part 6 is color corrected so it's different as well. I've been hearing the transfers for 5,7,8 look better as well since they are each on one separate disc with better bitrate.
Just got my set from Amazon today and can't wait to watch them. The last week of October is my horror marathon where I watch nothing but horror movies. I plan to watch this, Freddy, chucky, Michael Myers, jigsaw, and children of the corn movies. While also throwing in some IT new ones and old one, my guilty pleasure killer klowns from outer space, hatchet...... lol ok too many to list but till then I watch 1 horror movie a day. So it was great to hear your review on these movies as I was one who missed out on the tin collection and wasn't going to miss this one.

I just bought this set at Best buy for a hundred. Keeping my steel book! They're both great for collectors.
Collectors edition with poster and lithograph sitting in Oregon in my Shipito storage area. Now just need to spend a gazillion overpriced dollars shipping here to Australia... But... Oh my this set looks nice and should be so worth it. My Friday the 13th collectors tin now becomes a collectable curio in my collection (can't bring myself to sell it after so much effort hunting it down and acquiring it for a reasonable price a few years back!). Got mine a week early and it was worth every dollar. I'm buying a couple of frames for the beautiful posters and they will be up in the man cave in between my original friday the 13th 1980 and part 2 1981movie posters.
Got mine already. On Friday part 6 right now. It is an amazing set!
I was only able to get 10 mins in to the first film before I had to go to work, but the part in the town at the beginning already wowed me with the color. I can't wait to get to the camp! Also I did pulled up Part 5 from this release and the 8-film and Scream Factory or Paramount did some new color correction. The contrast and color tones on the new release were a bit better than the previous release.
I agree the remasters look pretty damned nice. But there are rumors that a few films looked better in the original tin box set, part 9 specifically being one of them. But all in all aside from the mistakes made in the 3 films, im pretty pleased with it. Just did my disc replacement for the 3 films yesterday, hopefully arrive shortly

Part 5 and Part 6 should have gotten a 2K scan. Part 7 and 8 look so good that a remaster is not needed.
Big Friday the 13th fan, I was going to hold out for a 4k disc set but you might have convinced me to pull the trigger on this set.
I doubt we'll see anything like that until the lawsuit is over and they announce a new movie to help generate hype

@@JeffRauseo oh yeah, we are gonna watch them this week and I’m beyond excited. I just HOPE beyond hope that we get a Nightmare On Elm Street set from Scream factory in the near future. I have the old DVD set and it’s still one of my most prized box sets. I don’t even own them on Blu ray because I keep waiting and hoping a great set will come out. The current one is meh. @@LanceLust1980HugeTheWarningFan it's unfortunate but I guess in a big set like this some things get missed. I've read on a few sites that Shout are looking at it and will most likely announce a replacement disc program soon...
@@darrenblizzard3851 I've heard titles in the past had issues. They'd correct the issue, but didn't really tell anyone. Past victims, er, customers would have to complain about it in order to get a replacement. They didn't address it, but fixed the problem for future discs...

I'd like to have this set but I'm not a huge Friday The 13th fan for me to feel dropping £130 on it is justifiable when I have the 8 movie set. Maybe I will at some point if I get a good deal or there's nothing higher on my most watched list, who knows.

Just wondered of your Jason goes to hell unrated has the missing upclose wrist snap scene and Jason X sleeping bag girls audio is missing, you hear the audio from the thudding of the sleeping bags but not the girls making any noise.
It's being mentioned all over social media. Got mine arriving tommorow, so we'll see. Guess they'll do a disc replacement scheme for the effected films, i hope so anyway. Take care Geoff 👍
Not to be rude regarding this channel, but he doesn't always know what's going on. He prefers deep colors to actual filmmaking, even if it never had deep colors. I've seen other reviews that actually mention what he didn't. This guy is only half-baked when it comes to his research, unfortunately. He likely didn't even realize it...!

Yeah so far I watched Jason goes to hell which looks great and I just finished watching Friday the 13th (first film) and it looks absolutely incredible. Can’t wait to get through the whole thing!

love this set. i went through them all and 1-4 look great. Woulda been nice to see them all in 4k but for the price we cant complain.
We CAN complain. I feel like there should already be a 4k set of these. Not a fan of "scream factory" because they don't let their content on streaming services. I'm don't see the point in buying yet another Blu ray set when there should be a 4k one. I don't care if some of the movies were mastered from the 4k. That does me no good. I want the actual 4k movies. Quit releasing this 87 times on 1080p format. I guess I'm not a fan of having to buy the actual disc's anymore.

Nobody thought we were getting this set, so yes, common sense tells me we will get a 4K set eventually. The Friday the 13th franchise is still very popular among collectors and we are the types of collectors who will double dip and even triple dip without a second thought.

There are too many movies to remaster would be too expensive
In regards to the cost issue with 4K, keep in mind the last Paramount 8 set was only $27 or so. If they just did what they did with that and only had 6 discs, (and keep the bonus materials on the 6th disc to a bare minimum to avoid compression problems on Part 7 and 8) it seems to me they could keep the cost low enough. Right now Best Buy is selling a Rambo 4K steelbook set of all 5 films for $120. 5 individual steelbooks inside a larger steel case. That is atleast 5 discs total. Paramount should easily be able to get the first 8 on 4K in an amaray set for at least that low of a price. You cant tell me that Rambo is that much more marketable than Friday the 13th.

I'm buying the Friday The 13th boxset next week even though I own all of them on Blu Ray the new transfer is worth buying again.
I deliberately held off of those previous editions because I figured something like this would happen. It was frustrating, waiting almost a decade, but it was worth it.
@@Theomite I previously owned all the Friday The 13th movies on video cassette, DVD, 2 Blu Ray box set from the early 2000's and now of course this new box set which is worth re- purchasing these movies because of the new 4K transfer.

I haven't received my set yet but, for 3D fans, it's worth noting that Scream Factory (or someone) totally screwed up the opening credits on Part 3 3D: Whilst the title text pops out of the screen, the rest of the credits don't, which they definitely should as that's the way they were on the film's original release. It's an inexplicable (thus far) mistake, and quite a disappointment for 3D fans hoping this would finally be the 3D release we'd been hoping for - especially since a lot of us fans were basically paying $130 just for an official release of this one film.
It was like that on the previous blu-ray release as well.
Good info. I’m a big 3D guy. I act saw Part 3 in 3D in theaters with a packed theater. It was a great time.

@@thefury4815 It was actually pretty cool. The sides would alterante shooting out and pulling back. Not the end of the world that it's not there, but I remember that funky theme and 3D credits fondly.
So if i buy this 4k scream factory box set those movies will look better than the normal blurays? I thought the discs were just blurays? Lol,im running a q80r. With a sony 700 4player. And a q70 sound bar. So the first 4,just put the disc in a 4k player and the 4k player will upscale it past 1080? If someone has a regular blu ray player that doesnt upscale or do a native 4k,playing it on a 4k tv wld it look as good? Sorry for silly questions.

There is very heavy film grain on the 4K scans. Still looks great compared to watching them on TV every Halloween back in the 90s.

Haven't confirmed the issues for myself but if true hopefully Shout/Scream Factory makes it right. Otherwise I love the look of my set and I'll be digging into the movies this weekend.

Heard shout factory on the ones that didn't get 4k scans got new color grading. Does it look better then the tin set ?
I didn’t see a huge difference honestly. Is did hear that but I didn’t think it was worth a review. The color grading was fine before so this new one isnjust different, not really better or worse.

I've mentioned this before, and he only took it as negative without taking it as a constructive criticism.
Part 6 got a new color correction, so if anything because of that it looks slightly better. Part 5 has no improvement from the tin set. For some reason part 7 and 8 look quite a bit better than they do on the tin set, maybe because 7 and 8 on the tin set had a subpar bit rate.
I'm so glad I never got the over priced tin set.
Any word on a 4K Terminator box set coming out I know you can get T2 & the new one on 4K but a box set would be popular

Shout factory just put out a letter yesterday saying that 2 of the disk in the box set r defective I'm send mine back plus I didn't spend all that money just 2 have only 4 movies getting a proper transfer & 2 defective ones hope they do a good fix.
Theres actually 3 defective discs in the set Friday 3, Friday 9 and Jason X. And you won't have to send your old discs back. All you do is go to the link Shout provided on that letter and enter the info as they described and they'll mail you out corrected discs starting in November. I just did this yesterday and was a real pain in the ass hunting for my sale receipt in my email, since you have to send a pic/proof of purchase of that to this place.
Lucky for my my tv scales everything from 1080p and up to 4k :D
A quick question for you or anyone that has the set: On the bonus discs, is the audio DTS or Dolby Digital? I know it really doesn't matter for bonus material. But, I am making custom covers and want to know which logo to add to back cover. Thanks!

I just got mine today and I’m confused. The first 4 movies have 4K scans right? But the disc itself says 1080p
yeah the scans are 4K but on 1080p (i.e. regular Blu-ray) discs. so downscaled from 4K but should still be much better than a 1080p scan.
SHOUT/SCREAM factory seem to be now just starting to dip their toes into the 4k game with some of their previous releases. Wonder if that's something they'll do somewhere down the line with some of these Friday the 13th movies.
I gotta imagine they will on those first four. They were scanned at 4k, so you'd think they must know there's some money on the table with that.
Arrow has actually started putting 4k discs out now whereas Scream/Shout Factory only does 4k scans
@@markpugh6808 Shout/Scream are releasing John Carpenter's They Live and Prince of Darkness on 4k. I believe those are their first foray into true 4k UHD.

Warner Brothers owns New Line in 2008. So even though JGTH, JX FVJ were all made by New Line before the the merger they are all now officially WB owned so it was only 2 studios involved. Paramount and WB.

6 movies got new transfers 1-4 4k and jason X and jason goes to hell 2k transfers 7 if you actually count both unrated and theatrical for Goes to Hell

I noticed a lot of distracting video noise on the new transfers, especially Part 1 and Part 4. The early hospital scenes and the scene where the two girls are talking in the bathroom in Part 4 being the worst. I thought it looked awful. Have to set my TV settings on digital noise reduction to "high" but it affects how the rest of the movie looks. Part 6 LOOKS like a new transfer but I guess they just sharpened the image and color corrected it and it looks great.
Yes, I don't see people mention this. The grain on part 4 (my favorite movie in the series) made the blacks look almost like static in some scenes.
You didn’t see the authoring problems in the 3D?
I might have bought this at this price if they were all redone in 4k or actual 4K discs but as it sits right now I would maybe pick this up if goes a hundred or below.
