- Hey everyone, it´s time to finish the small antique coffee grinder! Theres still a lot to do. After bringing back structural integrity in the first part, we will add usability in this one. And we grind coffee beans. Enjoy :)

Awesome :D
You definitely put the "O" into "OCD" ☺ Brilliant work. I am impressed 😍
I also hav one from my Oma. It’s in pretty rough shape.
This coffee grinder had it's catharsis after a century and we are lucky enough to witness this centenary agony. Thank you very much for the restoration, respect and well care you put into this project.
Oh wow, thank you so much for your kind and inspiring words!
I like it when things are restored not only for aesthetics, but for function too. Those people who always cry "But you decreased it's value!!1!!one!!!" when seeing this kind of restoration, are just silly.
Great work making that grinder a fully functioning part of history.
Thanks so much! Absolutely, I don´t like seeing fomerly useful mechanical devices turn into sculptures of some kind.
So thank you for commenting and thank you for watching!
This is by far the best coffee grinder restoration I have had the pleasure to watch. And the first one I've seen where time and care were taken to sharpen the grinder mechanisms. Your attention to detail and trying to save as much as the original as possible was outstanding.
Thomas, I have this same grinder - it was my grandmother's. I am refurbishing it (mainly its functionality) and watched both Part I and Part II with rapt attention. You will probably kick yourself when I tell you the "secret" of how the hopper "door" opens: It doesn't, because it's not a "door"! The inner part of the top is supposed to be fixed (perhaps glued?) to the base of the hopper! It's the REST of the top that rotates to reveal the hopper chamber! Check it out. Turn the grinder on its side and look at how the top of the hopper attaches to hopper base. It's simply folded over the outward-flared edge. In fact, if you look very closely (and your grinder was manufactured as imperfectly as mine was), you may be able to see that the edge of the base is folded back on itself as well, making a nice smooth lip for the top to slide against as you rotate it to open the chamber. It's totally counterintuitive. Add to that the fact that the grinder you were working with had a stationary part that kept falling inward, like a door coming off its hinges. If mine had done that, I may never have figured out that it was not supposed to move! My grinder is disassembled, but here's a short video of the hopper and how it opens. ua-cam.com/video/3GFT62QBPWI/v-deo.html
I also saw that as the most likely way. But the the top of mine was completey seized and didn´t move and I didn´t see a way to make it work in that way again... The one in the link you posted really seems to be the same but in a much much better condition. It´s nice to finally see it workingas intended! So thanks for your comment!
I wish you a lot of fun and succes refurbishing your coffee grinder :)
Absolutely beautiful. 10x better then anything you'll find as a new product.
This series was really interesting. I really hope you do more restoration videos!
Thank you, i will!
Your house is *so* clean and tidy *.*
Thanks a lot for those two videos! It's very well made and informative! I got back an old coffee grinder from my grand-mother, born in 1928, who told me it belonged to her grand-mother... so it's a very old grinder! But in a pity condition. I only have a few basic tools and managed to disassemble it, it wasn't an easy task and there are still a lot work to do, but your video encourages me to give it a try, so thanks! I think a handful tool I may purchase is a Dremel though.
Thank you Thomas!
That´s amazing, I´m glad you take care of it! Yes, a dremel or dremel-like tool is very handy for those kinds of things and especially a flex shaft makes working with it very pleasant.
Regards,
Thomas :D
Beautifully restored. A real labour of love. Well done!
Absolutely the best restoration video I've seen ..well done you are a true craftsman
That was the best antique coffee grinder restoration i have seen so far! Really impressive the lengths you went to in keeping its antique qualities while enhancing its functional purpose!! Well done! And the video quality with music choice plus the finish of making coffee? just sublime 🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍👍👍😽
Thank you so much! :D
Hopefully in another 90 years it will still be in operation by someone who cares even half as much about it.
Excellent work. Pleasure to watch
This series was fascinating. Please do another restoration.
Thank you! There will be more restaurations.
Even impressed about the music you choose once you were ready for the coffee break ;-) DANKE für dieses entspannende und tolle Video.
Beautiful! I love your attention to detail and your dedication to keeping the spirit of the piece while improving its functionality.
Fabulous - thank you Thomas, a great restoration project with superb engineering skill :-)
Hi Thomas, Thanks for sharing part 2 so quick. The result is marvelous, congatiulations. Rgds from Hessen, Robert.
wow really nice work
Beautiful and thorough restoration! Thank you for the attention to detail and sharing every step of your process with us. Not to mention, brewing a cup afterwards. I have seen other coffee grinder restorations that neglect the burrs, which are obviously in bad shape, so even after showing that it still grinds coffee, the project feels unfinished, because the result is uneven and the burrs have been worn down.
Thank you so much! Yes, the burrs were the first thing I worried about and I was really happy when it worked out as well as it did :)
Very nice restoration
The demo at the end with you pouring the coffee was just 11/10. You make great content, keep it up, glad I discovered you.
ahh awesome, glad you liked it!
Wonderful! You are truly an artist.
production quality: A+. narration: A+. resto quality: A+. item cool factor: A+

Thank you! He is :)
Beautiful work.
EXCELLENT!!! Thanks for taking us along with you on this restoration.
"precision marked" :)
Loved the finished grinder. Great Work!
Thanks so much!
Hi Thomas, I came to your channel from Wintergatan and the work you did for MMX. I'm glad I sub'ed. I'm not a huge woodworking fan but this 2 part restoration was great! The grinder has a lot of old world charm and the matte lacquer finish has a nice warmth and depth. Vice nice!.
Thank you so much, and thank you for sticking around :)
Very good restoration bro 👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
Fantastic! I really enjoyed that, except its 9:30 PM in the evening here and now I want coffee.
Hahaha awesome!
*drinking freshly ground coffee while watching*
Very beautiful result! And very interesting journey.
Nice! Thats the best way to watch!
@@pilotsworkshop4554 A very lucky coincidence :-D
Greetings from Australia. You’re a true craftsman mate. My parents were Ukrainian and always told me how my grandfather used to make coffee grinders before the war and the works of art he created sold for generous amounts. I’ve always been interested in grinders but finding any old ones in Australia is difficult.
Oh wow that is such an awesome story! Keep on looking, maybe you could find one on a flea market somewhere. If not then you could look for a new one, some still get made in that old style.
A lovely couple of videos. Thank you so much.
Thank you for watching!
The perfect video for the drab day here!
Enjoyed and waiting for your next one
10/10
Danke! Weiter so! Mit freundlichem Gruß&besten Wünschen aus Deutschland!
Amazing....
Great! Thanks - keep them coming!
Beautiful work, and now I need a coffee :)

Super Projekt und Video(s) :-)
Danke Marius :D
very compliment Thomas you are a very number one ...my name is Frank for Italy city Torino hi
Tolle Arbeit
Grüße aus Bolivian
Danke, Grüße zurück!
You must be german: overbuilt and overengineered. And I love it! Well done! Ps: wich kind of oil did you use? Can I use vaseline for enology/food industry for similar applications?
Thank you! I used Ballistol. I guess you could, yes.
Hallo! Soweit so gut.
I think if you sanded and polished the door it would slide better. But nice job!
Thanks! The outside surface wasnt the problem, it mainly slides on the bottom edge.
You're both close, but no cigar. See my comment elsewhere in this thread for the "secret."
by-by patina. peace
The lid remains stationary while the whole top of the bean canister rotates from open to closed position
Nice work, I especially like your tips. At 4:32, you ask how the inner lid originally moved, the answer is, it didn't. The inner lid would have been fastened to the funnel at its two bottom corners, this would have been a very light fastening just enough to stop it moving around, with brass hopper covers it would have been a spot of solder on both ends. With steel hopper covers, I am not sure, but it could also have been soldered. The outer lid would have turned, the inner lid would have stayed stationary. This is the reason that, as you noticed, there was no knob or stud on either inner or outer lid originally. The fixings for these inner lids often come loose, I have found that soldering a small 3cm x 1cm bracket made of very thin sheet brass on the inside fixes the inner lid in place very efficiently. An example is this grinder, which was repaired in this way: ua-cam.com/video/56CVqkEx3ys/v-deo.html. You can also see how the outer lid should turn around the fixed inner lid. Thanks again!
Alright, thanks for that info!! Glad you liked the video!
7:45 Hehe nice pun :)
i bet the metal slot somehow automatically opened and closed depending on what direction you turned the grinder
Wow! How can I find you on Instagram?
You didn't have to add the tab to close it. The top twists closed. I have the same one. Try it!
I can send you a video.
Hi Sam, thanks! somebody already commented a few weeks ago and told me that as well :) On this one the top didnt seem to be able to rotate, which is why I couldn´t figure it out, but now I get it!
You didn't put the cup back at the end, I was waiting. :(
Oh man, that would have been a cool idea!
Kein Funktionstest? ;) --- good job.
Kein funktionstest?
@@pilotsworkshop4554 have you tried it on camera if it is working?
;-)
Go to 22:20
@@pilotsworkshop4554 I'm sorry - I stopped there because I was only expecting an end card to come. my bad. but beside my mistake: you did some nice work here. :)
Hahaha no proplem, passiert schonmal :) Danke dir!
Don't forget that homogeneous has two E's. So it's pronounced "homo-geen-ee-ous". You won't be able to find "homogenous" (with one E) in the dictionary. This is a mistake a lot of native speakers make, too.
Starting a sentence with "so" is deemed bad style. This is a mistake a lot of native speakers make, too.
As a side note,

I guess you'll find it in a dictionary after all. Get your facts straight before posting wrong (and also completely irrelevant) information like this.
