I am a dude, and I am so flipping excited for my wedding. I have tried to be as involved in all the planning since day 1. It is definitely not "just a girl thing". Update: The wedding was great! Been married for 3 weeks now and couldn't be happier. The planning process is stressful, but seeing it all come together and being able to enjoy the day with the love of your life is soooo worth it. Brandon definitely missed out on that payoff. 2.5 year update: We had our first kid in December. A little girl!

I got married on Mothers’ Day because it was the only day that worked with the rest of the family’s schedules. We gave special flowers and recognition to the moms and no one complained about it being on Mother’s’ Day.
She needs to run. I was married for 23 years to someone who only thought his needs and wants mattered. Every simple thing was a battle and he vetoed every decision no matter how much time and energy I put into it. He’d come in at the last second and say he hated it. After 20 years it made me feel like I couldn’t make any decisions on my own. I felt worthless. It took me that long for my kids but I eventually left because I couldn’t stand it anymore. He was an only child too who’s parents made him think he was the most important person in the world and his needs mattered above anyone else’s. She’d be WAY better off to get out now before she does have a kid and the decision is much more difficult!!
I am very happy that you got out of the horrible situation. No one ever deserves to feel that way, and have your wants and needs thrown to the side. I am very proud of you for getting away from it, I know how hard it is!
My dad kinda is like that too and manipulative on top of it. My mum stayed for us too but I'm glad she thought of her own happiness in the end. I got married on Mothers’ Day because it was the only day that worked with the rest of the family’s schedules. We gave special flowers and recognition to the moms and no one complained about it being on Mother’s’ Day.
She needs to run. I was married for 23 years to someone who only thought his needs and wants mattered. Every simple thing was a battle and he vetoed every decision no matter how much time and energy I put into it. He’d come in at the last second and say he hated it. After 20 years it made me feel like I couldn’t make any decisions on my own. I felt worthless. It took me that long for my kids but I eventually left because I couldn’t stand it anymore. He was an only child too who’s parents made him think he was the most important person in the world and his needs mattered above anyone else’s. She’d be WAY better off to get out now before she does have a kid and the decision is much more difficult!!

My dad kinda is like that too and manipulative on top of it. My mum stayed for us too but I'm glad she thought of her own happiness in the end. My brother and I are adults now and are actually grateful she made that decision. I hope your kids understand too. And if they don't now, someday they will because I'm sure they want you to be happy.

I’ve been in this situation, only it was a state away, not continents. When a family has deep issues, and suddenly a girl comes into the picture, it’s the chance to have a scapegoat. Finally someone to blame and focus on so that they can feel better about themselves instead of being forced to recognize the trash they are.
