    Wonderful memories are awakened. Like in 1976 when, as a teenager, I hung in the blazing cold in winter on the fence of a Canadian air base in southern Germany. Every now and then a little heat came from the exhaust jet of the engine. The sound of this rocket - unforgettable. Many Thanks.

      @@32tfs Yes, exactly Baden Söllingen 👍😊 about 15 km from my old home. I was allowed to work in my later professional life as a professional soldier (retired) on the various aircraft (including Typhoon) of the German Air Force as an inspector / quality control. BUT - none had the unmistakable sound, the charm and the beautiful optics of the F-104. Many greetings from my new home in Northern Germany/Dutch border.👍

Please take some time to see some of my videos wich also includes the German Eurofighter at Wittmundhafen and Norvenich in Germany. Many greetings back from Leeuwarden the Netherlands😊

    Goede mooie video, 32TFS Aviation.

    • @32tfs

      Gaaf geluid was dat man 👍.

    Dad was a 104 IP at Luke AFB in the 60's. What a thrill to be able to see & hear that beautiful ship. The other worldly shriek/howl of the J79 still gives me goosebumps 50+ years later.

    That mighty howl! Heard it many times on my first day in Lahr, Germany. Dad was stationed at Ramstein so I rarely heard it afterwards but what a sound. The F-4 was louder (2 J-79s) but nowhere near as graceful.

      agree...shame about this beauty its an awesome plane,hard to fly,by that I mean,you had to respect her,she would kill you if you didnt go by the book,the saddest bit is,more pilots died flying her than enemies killed by it...nevertheless,an awesome old bird...not called widowmaker for nothing.

    I remember the sounds as a child...My father had 1100 hrs plus in CF104 and CF104D while stationed at Cold Lake Alberta, Lahr and Zweibrucken Germany. In his pilots flight log book was also recorded during one flight a flame out. He gained altitude and bailed out. A bird strike was suspected. I also have a photo ,I believe taken during the crash investigation, of the results...a bit of metal, a fuel(side or drop) tank and a large hole in the muskeg.

    I missed the Leewarden TDY 1973 or 1974.
    I once stopped a German F104 trying to taxi into our alert gate at Camp New Amsterdam. The guy got lost thinking we were the Dutch side of the base. I stood there with my M16 pointed at him nose to nose with my radio asking what to do and to get the tower to hurry up and get him out.

      Er is nog een interview met Willy en René van der Kerkhof opgenomen, bij hun thuis. Halverwege komt er een Starfighter over vliegen, wat goed te horen is. Kan dat niet meer vinden helaas.

      @@32tfs As a youth I lived for the Starfighter displays at our local airshows (CNE, London ON, Base Borden etc.) - going to an airshow for me was about seeing CF-104's, and the other stuff that was also there. I think the last display I saw was in the 80's at Borden. Close to my heart also was the CF-101 VooDoo, badass looking but the best part was the hard-start afterburners - typical display was to point the tail at the crowd and hit the burners - BOOM BOOM to the chest and big smiles.

    Schitterende opname. Maar inderdaad die irritante bel. Nooit anders geweest volgens mij. Niets verkeerds over de F-16, zeker niet: maar het motor geluid werkt soms storend in dit filmpje. Op ander filmpje is de f-104 sound niet eens meer te horen... Vraagje: ik kan dit specifieke motor geluid van KLu / Noorse F-104's niet horen bij Duitse / Italiaanse F-104's. Kan dat kloppen?

    • @32tfs
      @32tfs  6 років тому

      De Duitse starfighter had ook de specifiek howling sound net als de Nederlandse en Noorse Starfighters. De Italianen hebben ook de F-104S gevlogen dit was een door hun zelf door ontwikkelde Starfighter welke niet meer het karakteristieke 104 jank geluid had. Naast deze F-104S werd ook de F-104G door de Italianen gevlogen die dan wel weer het mooie geluid produceerde. Is dit misschien wat je bedoelt?

    Wat rookt dat ding trouwens enorm, lekker stealthy, not. Deden al die kisten in de 60-er jaren, kijk maar eens naar een B52 oei oei.. Dat ze dat niet hebben doorontwikkeld net zoals bij de F4 Phantom, de laatste versie's hadden geen rokende motor meer.

    • @32tfs
      @32tfs  6 років тому

      In principe is de F104 wel later door ontwikkeld alleen niet door Skunkworks maar door de Italianen. De Italianen hadden de F-104S ontwikkeld deze had een minder rokende motor en ook geen howl-sound meer waardoor deze 104 variant naar mijn mening een hoop karakter verloor. Alleen de Italianen vlogen met de F104S variant.
