I love my rice cooker (same style as) and was sad about donating it when I hit the road in June. This video has convinced me that I can get by with just the instant pot. I’m trying to get used to the instant pot before I move into my van.
Oh my goodness…I LOVE my Instant Pot! It’s so versatile. I make a similar chicken and rice dish and it always comes out perfectly…and so incredibly easy! A little tip, you’ve probably already figured this one out, the lid actually sits in the handle of the pot. When I found that out, it was a kinda life-changing moment😂 Saves having to find a spot to put the lid down when you take the lid off, especially when you’re short on space😉 Great video…looking forward to seeing more recipes!
I finally bought an Insta Pot in November and fell in love with it so much that I gave two of my sons and daughter n laws one for Christmas. They love it too. The only thing is I thought I bought the small one for my future van, but it was the medium Lol. I must tell you that the rubber ring inside the lid will hold food odors even after cleaning, so it's a good idea to pull it out and give it a good cleaning with vinegar and water.
Hey Christie, have been throwing backwards and forwards whether to buy an instant pot or not... but reckon you have convinced me to get one... Thanks so much for sharing... always enjoy your video's... 💜
You can use baking paper to do your toast in the grill and keep it away from the non stick lining. Is a good way to avoid the mess of melted cheese and oozing tomato all over the grill plate.
Can’t wait to see what yummi meals you are making 🎉 They are great and come in very small to very large sizes. We have the combo with airfryer. You can get spare pots and lids easily too.
Thanks for that, good idea! If you're worried about plastic toxins, you might want to upgrade your chopping board to a bamboo one. Up to you Love your channel, so good to see an Aussie, and see Australia fully! 😊
So welcome! I did also hear that if you let stainless steel get really hot before putting oil etc on it, nothing will stick. This seems to be working for me so far 😃
I'm French and I couldn't live without my pressure cooker! It's so versatile and you save so much money because you can turn up the heat and it still cook inside.
I need to pull out my Instant Pot and try again. I wasn't having great success with it. I'm avoiding non-stick too. I no longer use my airfryer and have been loving my stainless steel frypan. To make my SS frypan "non-stick", I heat it up using a high heat until a drop of water will roll around in a little ball and not evaporate - that means it's ready to use. Then I reduce the heat, add a little olive oil and my scrambled eggs never stick! Thanks for the tip about the baking soda!
If your looking for something gluten free thats easy try YoDo which is cup for cup of gf flour and natural greek yoghurt. Mix together in a bowl until combined and soft. Cut into 6 pieces roll out like flat bread fry in butter or a little oil on both sides until browned. You can add herbs or garlic whatever you like. Delicious 😋
I'm glad ur enjoying ur new Instant pot. I have the same 1, and I love it. I was new to pressure cooking too. It's different. I just use the normal heat setting. For rice I cook for 1 min, then leave it for 10-15min with the pressure pin still up. Then release. Eggs is also 1 min then 6min rest then release. It's so good with the power because depending on what I'm cooking almost everything is under 5 minutes then power off, it continues cooking at full heat for about 10-15 min afterwards if left to naturally release the pressure. It does sound like a fast cook time but keep in mind it also takes at least 10min to reach pressure. Once the pin is up, I don't touch it, it's a bomb. I hope you find this helpful. Happy travelling 😊 P.s Tried Tested and True is a Chanel that has some great insta pot stuff. It taught me a lot 😊
Thank you so much for sharing all this info and that channel, I actually watched some of her videos to get started with it!! She is so informative and to the point. 🙏☺
Hey Christie this is awesome, think I’m sold on it as well, I have been researching and reading about them. Yes it is a bit bulky and need to find somewhere to store it, I’m sure I’ll manage as you will also. A suggestion, with the George Foreman if you use baking paper on both sides of your item you’re cooking it will not be touching the non stick stuff and still brownsThanks for this. Cheers Judy😊
Thanks so much Judy, I'm so glad this video has been helpful! Another follower just suggested this too with the grill, I will definately be doing this going forward! 🙏🤗
Hi great to see you. See you again. The speedy cooker does so many functions you will love it but I don’t know what the power was just like. Thank you. Have a great day.
Thanks for sharing the insta pot comparison. Keen to see how it performs baking cakes and bread. I’ve only got the mini rice cooker so been looking at getting the bigger one with the steaming shelf but might hold off and get the insta pot. Really enjoy the cooking videos :)
You are very welcome! I'm so excited to try doing cakes and bread, hopefully will have a video on this soon. Thanks so much for watching🙏 I'm so glad it has been helpful to you☺
Thanks for sharing. It’s interesting that you chose ‘rice’ function. I always choose ‘meat’ if my dish contains meat , but that takes longer. I need to experiment…
Be nice to be joined in the chat. This is so interesting. I think I will have to get an instant pot, not a rice cooker! Gluten free flat breads may be easier to do than bread. Yep definitely a win. Brekky looked good. You can add vinegar to the bicarb and leave it sit a few minutes and the grime should just wipe away. Very exciting! Excellent video Christie!
I have 2 insdsnt pots 3qt and 6 quart. They are also good for making hard boil eggs and steamed corn on cob. I use the slow cook cycle to make soup, like vegetable soup, Mexican soup. Read about quick release. Welcome to new world of coooking. Have fun !😊
Love my Instant pots. Yes I have 2. That size and a smaller 3 litre. Natural release keeps protein like chicken more succulent. So always do that for better textures if you can.
Damn. Something else to buy! I just got a slow cooker to try out with my new EcoFlow but I reckon this would be better. I’d heard about them from other nomads but I didn’t have the power for them before. On another note, the mini hot plates from Kmart are great, maybe grab one of those and fry with a stainless frypan to replace your grill?
Instant POTS are great as so much more versatile and I agree re stainless steel. If you like whole grain rice that may be an option as the cooking time would perhaps have it in a firmer state. Your new appliance is definitely a winner. If you like pizza that would be an option also I would think.
White rice only needs to cook 4 minutes so you definitely overcooked. Get a basic instant pot cheat sheet or go online to get timing. It’s very different from the rice cooker or stovetop.
Experiment suggestion. If you put on saute mode while loading the pot with ingredients then switching to pressure cook will reduce the time it takes to come to pressure. Might use less power overall?
I would let the steam off outside if I were you just to prevent cooking odours inside the van. I do this in my kitchen and I think it’s preferable…the neighbours think I’m nuts tho….lol

I actually have a bit of a fear around using/carying gas haha, so that's why I go for electrical. I usually follow the sun throughout the year so haven't had too many issues with power ☺
