I got one for Christmas!! It is a great little radio with many functions. I did the newer firmware (November) and I’m in heaven. The external speaker is a must! Overall a great QRP radio. Another great video…Cheers..
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones It is possible to enable sound via BlueTooth without the help of Xiegu. In my idea there is on this score, but now I'm interested make a own firmware.
I remember I was telling you about hesitating between xiegu g90 and the ft 818, but finally I ordered (yesterday) this one radio. After watching countless reviews I concluded that this radio is the optimal quality/features/usability/price configuration… My only apprehension is about successfully installing the mars Tx mode, the part that I don’t understand is why the IP address is incorrect and what do I put in the two IP entries to correct it (I have only one IP address…) I’ve seen some people access the files via USB port and it works just the same. Anyways, thanks for all of your vids about this radio! Cheers
@@HamTechRadioScannerDronesThanks enormous! WinSCP use looks pretty clean and easy!! Put the dollar sign on your UA-cam “under the video” tab so that we can drop you some beer money!
Good to see they are making continual improvements. It sounds great on that speaker but I live and sleep with Bose headphones on so no speaker required. I'm thinking about this for my first HF radio. Thanks for giving a rundown through its settings.🍻🤠

@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Many thanks for your reply all I want to do is connect it up I have the radio screen on the Mac but they just won’t talk to each other. I am going to try the sight you suggested Now work is out the way for a bit and I will let you know how I get on Many thanks Mike
Please, what's the minimum VFO shift with the new firmware? I saw at the beginning of the video you were tuning on the 10Hz digit, is it possible to switch also the 1Hz digit? And actually I really hope they manage to implement repeater tone for 10m FM.
The 891 is one of the most underrated radios in amateur radio. It's got loads of menus which seem to turn a lot of people off but most are set and forget, changing bands and modes is simple. Even things like tuning, press PTT and up on MIC and it automatically sends a carrier and change the meter from power to SWR, you set the tuner to external tuner, can't remember the exact setting off the top of my head but it really makes tuning a breeze, just set AM power to 5w. It's got MIC EQ and 2 EQ settings on the MIC. The 891 has got super audio quality vastly better than the G90 or even the IC-7300, the noise floor is really low and it's a pleasure to listen to via headphones especially. + the 891 has 5-100 Watts, I can run it off a 4S 8.4 AH LifeP04 battery for hrs at 100W or much longer on 5W. It uses 0.6-0.9 amps on receive but change the screen brightness lower especially the led lights for the buttons and it can be as low as around 0.6 amps. The receiver on the 891 is excellent, much better than the G90 for example. It's roughly the same size but a little heavier, the G90 ergonomics are not very good and the buttons are not nice to use. The G90 has a tuner, a very good one but I wouldn't part with the quality of the 891 and 100w over a tuner. I sold the G90 never regretted it. Having said that I'd love to get the 6100 to play around but if I had a choice between the 6100 and the 891 there's no way I'd part with the 891 unless I absolutely needed the portability and built in tuner, most of my antennas are resonant. When portable, a waterfall and screen are not my concern.
@digitalhamradiodiary-m0fxb Took delivery, love the radio with Xiegu external speaker and 4.5ah Bioenno. Firmware update took a bit of work, but worked well. I need to get an uncoiled mike cord for better storage.
Having sold all my nice HF units (FT-991A, IC-7610) two years ago I'm looking to get back into HF with FT8. I saw the G106 for under $300 (but needs the DE-19 for around $60) and this X6100 with double the power output and seems to not need the data add-on module (but also almost double the price). How good is this X6100 in your opinion compared to the G106 or something else in this range of price up to $1,100. Also strongly thinking about the Yaesu FT-710 AESS and FT-891
Whoa.... Joey....how did get that display on screen that's sick. That the new update I just got mine a week ago waiting of my antenna to break it out again. Thanks
@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones Thanks. I got your reply and installed the new firmware. I ended up getting black screen from using blue tooth and my PC did the from messing with ports. It took me a few days but eventually got both working and updated. It was much easier than I thought to update I was over thinking it. Bought a couple end feds for now cheap $15 and a $100 they work good haven't had a lot of time on them. Probably get one of those telescopic adjustable antennas at some point just to have. Who knows how long we have until things get difficult to obtain these days.
Nice. Looks like Xiegu have come a long way since the G90. Sounds great on the ext speaker. Do you know if there is a practice morse oscillator mode on this radio. Think the g90 had one. 73 Mike
It would be nice If the inbuilt speaker would sound better...than the rig would be absolutely great! is it possible to change the inbuilt speaker and make it sound better? 73 and merry Xmas.
Once again I'm thinking if half the price of 705 is justifying itself over Icom's quality... Have to use firmware 1.1.5 from April on mine since 1.1.6 doesn't TX (tried 3 different versions of 1.1.6). Hoping 1.1.7 will fix it and bring BT audio.
I bought this radio on the hype I've heard about how good it is.....boy wasn't I disappointed when I got it, it's so full of self oscillating carriers from inside their adios I found it totally un-usable and with the latest updates 1.1.6 the squelch doesn't work, and with a noise floor of s/6 without an antenna connected ????? Among the bluetooth also being so buggy....ahhh that was enough for me had it for 2 days and sent it back... This radio is not a finnished product BEWARE

Agree, we have been messaging XIEGU since the radio was released about Bluetooth but no joy.
