    Had to chuckle. You're extolling the virtues of kit that is in the region of £4500 and you're saying shop around for a cheaper second-hand fin.😂😂 That's a bit like telling a Ferrari driver to price check the local petrol stations before he tops up the tank. Windsurfing has become a rich man's sport.
    Your videos are great so I hope Simmer and the rest of the sponsors keep up the good work. You deserve it.

    🎉… 106 monster or 116 and a 7 freereace sail would be my dream combo if conditions were bit better here… but so i prefer to put my budget into windfoiling.
    Tried the monster in Porto pollo onnce and i really loved that board

    Nothing better than a good old fashioned planning sound of board on the water man, how can foilers trade that for the odd silence or, at best, the rather annoying whizzing they make??
    Always great content Ben, you are the ultimate ambassador for the sport !
    🤙🏻💙🤙🏻
    Disclaimer
    ‘Was rather referring to wingers and not to WS foilers which I much more respect and actually can relate to,

    Lovely weather and on the water, not so much here in Blighty at the moment. I heard that fin size should be 5 x sail size plus 4. Choppy stuff 😂😂 it’s a damn mill pond!😂

    I spent the first 9 years of my windsurfing on a non-windy lake with a run of less than 300m. Surrounded by trees I always smile when I now find myself complaining about gusty wind. Maybe I've forgotten. Back in the day if I planed 20 times in a 4 hour session it was considered a good day!

    Harness lines look good - movable but not too easy to move. I’ve been struggling to find extra long ones - will look to get a pair.

    Good video Ben. Nice board, it looks really comfortable to ride. Just interesting to see that it has enough volume that you are pretty comfortable just standing and adjusting between gusts. I am about 73 kilos and really need to improve my carve gybes. Is this a good platform for it? I sail 93 Litre in 20 plus knots but have completely lost the ability to gybe.

    I look forward to more of this style of content Ben. Are you going to use this Monster in the Defi or go with a pure slalom board?

    • @Ben-Proffitt
      @Ben-Proffitt  3 місяці тому +1

      well this is a 106 (70cm) wide so I guess this could be my Big Defi board.. but I have a 96 3XS (Slalom board) which is probably a bettersize for the big winds you can get in the Defi. Also I have a 80 litre GPS board which if it's 40knots + I will use that

    I found one problem on those clamcleat lines: if you want to use them both on windsurfing and foiling, the plastic tube part must be short enough to get them to windsurfing length (like 30-34). But then when you extend them to foiling (more like 40+) the „naked“ line tends to swing or even twist a lot.
    I simply cut a peace of a cheep gardening hose, threaded the lime through and fixed the tube with cable ties to the hole in the clamcleat. The hose must be short enough so you never hook over it, otherwise you‘ll tear it off. But it will support the bare line a lot. The hose must of course be wide enough to take in the lines outer tube. You can chamfer the opening to prevent it from getting stuck. Works perfectly on my setup.

    • @philliphommel9790
      @philliphommel9790 3 місяці тому

      And another comment: you don‘t actually need the liberty harness. Quite expensive that is. The starboard drake is essentially the exact same thing and quite a bit more affordable

    You are very close with the kit, Ben very close. Blue board (my favourite colour), with a few flashes of orange on it for contrast. White writing for the name and specs. Sail is blue, white writing, so matches, but no orange! Your wetsuit and boom has a bit of orange detail, so fine. Whats the GPS watch strap? Orange. So put a few orange stickers on the sail, and you WILL go that extra 0.1 knot to hit the 32 you wanted :)

      Other than that, a great setup for the not overly serious blaster looking for easy sailing and not to complicate things too much, freerace board, decent fin, 2 cam, RDM for durability.

    Nice video Ben, I will be in Marthinal second half of May, what's the ideal slalom set up for a 90 kgs rider ? What average and max wind speed shall I expect at this time of the year ? And sea temperature ? 🤙

      Hi mate, well you can have anything.. but my used sails would be 6.3 and 7m on the slalom gear.. (I'm 80kgs) but obviously can be lighter or nuking :)

    This session is very interesting Ben, it seems that the Monster 106 get up to plane rather quickly for this size of board, one quick question, where have you fixed the mast foot for this kind of wind conditions?
    Thanks, JF.

    • @Ben-Proffitt
      @Ben-Proffitt  3 місяці тому

      yeah I was surprised how quick and easy it was to get going.. I had the mast base set a 2 cm from the back of the track (hole)

    • @Phil-ry2ux
      @Phil-ry2ux 3 місяці тому

      @@Ben-Proffitt The 'where to put the mastfoot' question crops up a lot. Front/middle/back? That depends upon where they put the mast track itself in the board. From the slalom tuning video interviews you did, the Fanatic sailors (Pierre Mortefon & Jordy Vonk) said more towards the front, the Starboard (Matteo Iachino) said more to the back. I've found that 130cm seems the magic number on the last few boards I've used this size, +/- a small amount. I've also noticed on several of my Exocet and Fanatic boards that the markings in cm can be as much as 2cm out from what I measured. Guess the brands say put the mast track at 125 cm, meaning the actual usable part and not the hole, but Cobra measure from the end of the track including the hole. You cant just go off the markings.
