Well ser steve Im from Philippines and I dont care about time because when I watch you I really do learn somthing and apply it in my woodworking with just a limit of tools and power tools.
Steve, I think you’re going to find that you will want your 2.0 version of these to be about 6-12” taller. That way you can keep straight legs throughout the entire range of motion. I find it annoying to have to always have my legs bent when doing dips.
Whilst talking about the weather Steve goes off on a tangent to talk about the grouping and naming of parts of the day. This then naturally segways into rearranging the seasons, then Steve announces that he's going on a tangent to talk about "temperature saving time". It was at that point I reached for the popcorn and settled in for the next seven minutes of heatwave based delirium safe in the knowledge that we're not doing any woodworking today. 😂🤣😂🤣
I work grave shift. I watched this video during my lunch break. At 3:00am. Holy crap! I can't agree with any of your day/evening/night talk because after 20 years of night shift, time has become meaningless to me. Love the videos, keep 'em coming!
You upload videos in the evening according to your time, so when I wake up and watch, it's morning for me. Perfect for me that you say good morning. My country Sweden is in UTC+2 (summer time).
I enjoyed the talk about time! I also think that lunch hour should change, because noon is to early. Think about it: if you eat breakfast at 8am and dinner at 7pm, in between that is 1:30pm. I think Steve should start a rambling podcast; maybe he could call it Ramsbling (Ramsey+Rambling), or Ramsey rambles, or something like that.
Good morning. Just to throw another dimension to all that, think of all the languages in the world and the number of ways to say morning, evening and even the seasons. I did hear you say autumn in there, nicely done. While watching you build I couldn't help but think of ways to convert them to be used as saw horses as well.
A hearty “Good morning” at any time of day works just fine for me, but you were definitely on to something with the seasons (though where I’m from, spring only really exists for about two weeks in June as that weird period between “snow” and “too frickin’ hot”)
Gotta admit, after about a minute and a half of rambling I skipped to the actual woodworking part. Being on the East coast I almost never see you videos in the morning, but good morning is fine by me.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm jealous of your heatwave. Here in the Southern hemisphere it's pretty cold at the moment and I can't wait for summer and spending more time in the workshop
@Steve, when setting these in position to use, try having them toed in slightly, about 10cm (4″) narrower on the side you're facing. You'll find this is much kinder on your shoulders than having the bars parallel.
Our Home Depot and Lowe’s lumber stores get picked through a lot. Nearby they opened a Menards...best store ever and the selection of lumber is great. Picked up 4 1x6 three foot scraps for a project. They charged me .98 cents a piece..wow. I’ll be back tomorrow.
Hahaha! Man that first ramble was excellent. I'd get behind temperature saving time. Hey have you ever made a comment on the origin of the skull thing hanging on your garage wall? With the scary blood dripping down? I love it!
The Internet community had that "good morning" thing figured out a few years ago. They call it "Universal Greeting Time", which means, you can by definition always say "good morning" to anyone joining a chat, and say "good night" upon leaving, in order to prevent any unnecessary follow-up chatter about how time zones exist^^ Also, what do you call the time after midnight, but before going to sleep? Is it "today" or already "tomorrow"?
When my job crosses over to the next day 12:01 am I get on the radio and say good morning to my other Forklift drivers. And when we are leaving at 1am I say see you later on today.
A few more times that are pivotal in each day.......Morning Tea (0930), Afternoon Tea (1430).....who could forget Beer O’clock (1700)! Great vids...love ‘em!
Hey! In Australia the seasons start on the first of the month. I had no idea it could be any other way! December 1st is the beginning of summer, March 1st is autumn, June1st begins winter and 1st September is spring. ( which is just on the horizon right now)
A friend of mine lives on the other side of the world. We only talk when its morning for me and evening for him or vice versa. We decided on the greeting, 'Good morro's eve,' to cover the morning and the evening before it.
I was really intimidated by the mitre saw, i watched your earlier videos about using 'em a few times. I got my first mitre saw and I can't remember why I was so hesitant about getting one. Great vid that one.
Another use for those would be to make a "plank" or something like that to go across something like 3 feet. Have some notches made so it can sit on the dowel. Quick little bench, especially if you need something at the oh crap hour.
If you want to make a dip station that's "adjustable", but you don't want to have to adjust it, don't put the handles parallel to each other, but it more of a V shape. Make one end near the minimum spacing you'd want, and the other end closer to the maximum. I have an actual metal lifting cage with dip bars, and that's how mine are set up. You end up finding the exact spot that works for you. Agree on the holy crap hour! I extend that to 4, though. If I have to get up at 5 it's just really early, but getting up at 4 sucks.
I always schedule meetings at 2pm because my boss prefers it but I agree with you, that time of day I’m not alert anymore and I’m struggling to pay attention.
In Ohio, fall is generally September, October, and November, then winter lasts from December 1st to that weekend in May where it snows on Saturday then hits 90 on Sunday.
All public holidays, birthdays, and christmas, should be in the same week. That way I can be ill or go on holiday that week, and not have to see anyone.
Had an idea for the dip bars, you said that all of your shop furniture is on casters... well, if you did that for the dip bars it would make the workouts more challenging *AND* there would be a bunch of comedic UA-cam gold to watch... And Holy Crap at 3 AM totally makes sense, I think we should abbreviate it to HC and start using it! 😁 I have to agree with you... *HC* the Bay Area heat wave sucks - but I think Marin might be cooler -- Now with the New and Improved adjusted time-shifting and temperature roll-back savings program for all we know it could have been at evening on a winter's night when you recorded the video... Can't be sure, I need to rewatch the video because there were a lot of exceptions to those rules.
"I'm not into time." - Tommy Chong We should all just be on GMT. Time is the same no matter where you are. Why we are obsessed with 12 noon has to be when the sun is at it's zenith at noon everywhere makes no sense. Depending on where you are the sun's zenith is at a different time. You know, like reality.
Great changes to our system that almost makes sense. Might as well get rid of anything relating to the actual cycles of the sun/earth. In the southern hemishpere we can just add an "upside-down-" prefix to all the seasons instead of letting them call July wintertime.
I've been a certified athletic trainer for 20 years. (it's sports medicine taking care of injured athletes) just for safety you may want to run a support beam from handle to handle. It will add a lot of stability. Just remember if one of the boards break your body will always be above it falling down on it. Triple check the areas where it can fail and where your body will be in relation to the failure point. It you fall on the broken area you are most likely going to impale yourself. Not to mention if they tip outward. It won't be funny like when someone's feet go in opposite directions and they do a split. If your hands split apart because they tipped over you will face plant break your nose and the earth will fall off its axis. When building work out equipment ALWAYS look at failure points not how sturdy it is. Sort of the same thing but instead of looking at it as how sturdy it is look at it as where the weakness it. Just look at it from all points of view. I know you're upright when doing dips but from my experience when people fall from dips they go forward. Just remember on that last repot two you will probably be shaking like crazy
Pretty much all big box stores lumber is like that. Been picked through too many times all that’s left is the knotty and twisted stuff. Instead of getting rid of it they usually throw it back on the pile again.
Just watched day 157....I wouldn't give 156 a "7" rating: your 'time definitions' are great and I'll be thinking about that for a good long while (you are absolutely right about 3 am and 3 pm!)
You've never been to Cleveland, have you? (Or other Midwest cities). Winter goes until at least April. Sometimes May. Usually we just skip spring and go straight to summer. And really, we more or less skip Fall too. Basically, there is Summer and Winter, and nothing in between.
I love seeing the movie poster on the wall in your shop. My father photographed the original " Cat People " in 1942, I like your choice of posters :-))
Dip bars look great. I’d be paranoid that the dowels would snap though not sure they’d take my 120kg. As for gyms, the UK opened up at the end of July which is great but it really did show that I’d had nearly 4 months off!
The Lockdown Woodworking numbering and videos are like the marks you carve in prison walls or trees if you are stranded in an island to know and keep track of time 😂
It's funny how time just works differently in different coutries. Being from Belgium, I would never say that evening starts at 5 pm. It is like the middle/end of the afternoon for me. I'd say evening would be between 6:30 and 9, which basically are the span of time where 95% of people have supper here
Ya knoooooow... you COULD make the dip bars pull double duty if you sized them to act as outfeed rollers for your table saw. If they are short enough, perhaps a quarter sheet of plywood could make them an outfeed table?
i guess its all what your used to. Novato right now 98, Antioch where I am 110. above where your hand saws are - you should put a hole in the wall and put a AC unit there. My shop is running at 80 right now. 4:50 PM
There's a Minecraft youtuber (Avomance) who starts every video with "Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and good night" to kinda cover all those bases! :)
Hi, Steve. Well done. Now you have a complete gym. I think, maybe, you should have done with height adjustment. So Mrs. Ramsey and Wyatt could use them, too. No excuses for them not to exercise. Haha. Thanks to the sponsor (you) for supporting the channel. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. Now I'm totally confused about the times. It is now 9 a.m. in Germany and I have the strong feeling that it is better to go back to bed and stay there - all day - just to be on the safe side. ;o)
Why do I keep thinking of "The Truman Show"? "Good morning, and if I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night." And hey, those things could double as some decent saw horses!
This isn't the intro that we need, but it's the intro that we deserve. People need to just shut their mouth the next time when they want to criticize Steve for something insignificant.
Wow, nice improvement on those arms. I was watching your old videos thinking “wow his arms are so skinny looks like he works in an office or something” then this video pops up and I thought you were making a spoof of all the other you tubers making gym equipment. Nice to see you working out. As the body gets older it’s important to take care of it more. I’d recommend yoga or stretching. You don’t want to be one of those old guys in 20 years that can’t even tie his shoe, or struggle to stand after sitting or falling on the ground. Mobility is youth.
Hahaha you are too funny yeah it's hot here too in Las Vegas and yes we all care about her own weather love the rambling bit humor at its peak keep up the great work
have you thought about a mini split for cooling your shop, i use one and have had great results even as a heater and i am in a cold climate. i also track the power use it cost me about $15 a month to cool my 500sq shop
I didn't mind the "good morning" remark in the last video, but now that you've botched the definition I need to say something. Morning begins at sunrise and runs until noon. Afternoon runs from noon to dinnertime. Evening runs from dinnertime to sunset. Night is from sunset to sunrise.
Historically, dinner has been eaten at all sorts of times of day, from late morning to early afternoon. Dinner refers to the main meal of the day. With dinner near the middle of the day, supper was a smaller, late evening meal. Over time, dinner was pushed later and later in the day, to the point where supper as a separate meal was no longer necessary. The word supper became synonymous with dinner. To bridge the gap between breakfast and dinner, lunch was added at midday.
I have a question in regards to doing the dowel rods. Wouldn't there be more strength in drilling completely through the 2x4s and having more of the dowel rods secured? Did you do this for more for looks? Side note: I truly appreciate your time in doing all of these videos. I have been watching for a long time and have learned a lot. Thank you, sir.
This time talk was EPIC! This needs to be a podcast topic.

I'm enjoying the random chit chat, but that giant uncut piece of plywood taking up all that space is going to give me nightmares at holy crap hour.
Your weather is like "putting out fire - with gasoline".
You've never been to Cleveland, have you? (Or other Midwest cities). Winter goes until at least April. Sometimes May. Usually we just skip spring and go straight to summer. And really, we more or less skip Fall too. Basically, there is Summer and Winter, and nothing in between.
Illinois has 2, humid as hell then cold as hell.
@@DCgamer723 Sounds about right.
Yes and we have construction all summer and because they never finish we still have cones and sawhorses all winter.
@@keithfaulkner6319 oh yeah I forgot about that since we haven't been driving much
I love seeing the movie poster on the wall in your shop.
My father photographed the original " Cat People " in 1942,
I like your choice of posters :-))
Really? That's amazing. Val Lewton's original film is very cool.
@@SteveRamsey Very cool indeed, you should try and watch it.
So based on your system, my husband is asleep before night-time and gets up at holy crap hour. So he totally agrees with your description.
So a heatwave has the same effect as too much coffee? Interesting ;)
Oh and 3am is called "stupid o'clock" in my house ;)
i guess its all what your used to. Novato right now 98, Antioch where I am 110.
above where your hand saws are - you should put a hole in the wall and put a AC unit there. My shop is running at 80 right now. 4:50 PM
Awesome stuff Steve! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
So since summer ends on August 30 that means August 31 is the first day of autumn?
It's a weird gray space...not summer and not autumn since that's only September and October?
There's a Minecraft youtuber (Avomance) who starts every video with "Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and good night" to kinda cover all those bases! :)
Hi, Steve. Well done. Now you have a complete gym. I think, maybe, you should have done with height adjustment. So Mrs. Ramsey and Wyatt could use them, too. No excuses for them not to exercise. Haha. Thanks to the sponsor (you) for supporting the channel. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. Now I'm totally confused about the times. It is now 9 a.m. in Germany and I have the strong feeling that it is better to go back to bed and stay there - all day - just to be on the safe side. ;o)
Love the time rant!
You should be in charge.
Why do I keep thinking of "The Truman Show"? "Good morning, and if I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening and good night." And hey, those things could double as some decent saw horses!
Noon-1ish or so is “gentleman’s AM”.
This isn't the intro that we need, but it's the intro that we deserve. People need to just shut their mouth the next time when they want to criticize Steve for something insignificant.
I work graveyard shift. 830 PM until 950 am. 3 am is basically lunch time.
Its mid 70's and low humidity here in Michigan!
Great! A squat rack for mere mortals would be cool 👍🏼
The quality of lumber is exactly the same here in the UK. The prices also seem to have gone up since the lockdown.
I have the pleasure of getting up at 3:20am for a 5am shift! Nobody is meant to be awake at this time!
I wish Strava would get on board with Steve's time-of-day naming convention.
Steve: have you ever considered using a dehumidifier or portable AC in your workshop/garage? It will transform your space!
Hey Steve just a thought if you add another one somewhere in the middle you could use it for doing incline push ups
I didn't mind the "good morning" remark in the last video, but now that you've botched the definition I need to say something. Morning begins at sunrise and runs until noon. Afternoon runs from noon to dinnertime. Evening runs from dinnertime to sunset. Night is from sunset to sunrise.
In my grand parents' time, dinner was eaten at 12:30pm, half an hour after noon. Tea was at 16:00, supper at 22:00.
2:55pm begins the long dark tea time of the soul.....
