You know you’re getting old when you watch a cartoon long enough to think at the beginning “wow he’s bad with women” to “wow i’m exactly like this, and i understand how hard romance is”
I have to say that I was always a shipping trash when it came to cartoons and anime and now that I think about it I kinda feel ashamed. I'm really glad that the crew of Adventure Time took this smart approach with Finns development and when he will have a romantic relationship it would feel more genuine and realistic. On a somewhat related note, this video brings to mind a realization I just recently had about Finn's past romantic relationships: For a long time, I thought there was a resolution that needed to happen between Finn and Princess Bubblegum. Namely, that she needed to atone for how callously she ignored the relationship between her younger self and Finn. They grow closer during the time she's de-aged, and at the moment she regains her real age, it culminates in a kiss (a genuine and meaningful expression of their mutual desire). Then, minutes later, when he makes a weak attempt to continue the relationship, she brushes it off by saying "that was like five years ago". It was probably just my selfish need to have everything in fiction wrapped up in a nice little package, but I spent years thinking that she needed to at least acknowledge how hurtful and confusing her dismissal of him was, and apologize for it. Now I realize that this is unnecessary. As satisfying as that would be, at the time it happened at least, it would ultimately mean nothing. That boat has sailed, and her apology would not change the hurt it caused. When it comes down to it, both of Finn's relationships are real things that happen to you in adolescence. Princess Bubblegum is the person (in a lot of cases in real life, even an older person) who toys with your emotions, hurts you, and never apologizes for it or even acknowledges that they did it. Flame Princess, obviously, is pretty much the opposite: When you, in your immaturity, just use someone for your own purposes and hurt them as badly as anyone has ever hurt you. I now realize that both of these relationships are as resolved as they're ever going to be, and that any hope we have for further development is pointless. If anything, that makes them more realistic and meaningful.

Wow, just wow! I'm amazed at how you were able to deconstruct such a simple line! Analysis like this is what I do all the time, and I thought I was the only one! It felt like I was hearing myself give an analysis through the entire video. I absolutely love what you do here, and I'm going to spend the next few hours just going through the rest of the stuff you have here like this. You're doing amazing work!
There is certainly a reversal of archetypes in Flute Spell-Finn is presented in a more feminine role-beyond his general appearance of long, golden hair, an association with a body of water is a feminine theme. As well, he is not saving Huntress Wizard (who is by far the most androgynous of all his potential partners), but acting as a conduit for a force with which she has lost connection-and this is something with which he lacks agency-he is a voided being. And in a position of vulnerability. My largest realm of study is into oral storytelling and this is a subtext I have explored a lot. I find this episode hugely interesting in terms of gender studies, particularly choric theory. Thank you for prompting some of my ideas!
+Rachel Walsh Thanks for sharing your sweet thoughts! "Flute Spell" certainly toys with traditional/stereotypical gender roles with the most obvious/blatant being your initial example - Finn bathing in a luxurious manner in the spring and Huntress Wizard busting out of the foliage like a brute. Finn taking on the silent supporter role was also an interesting dynamic and I will have to keep an additional eye on the subtleties of that in future re-watches of the episode for sure.
+Uncivilized Elk +Rachel Walsh there was also an instance of the reversal of archetypes in Flute Spell that i thought was important to mention: The ancient Greek deity Artemis is one rarely spoken about in legend. now Artemis, is of course, the goddess of the hunt. In Greek folklore, there is a tale of a lowly warrior, Actaeon, who was traveling through the woods when he stumbles upon Artemis bathing in a pond. Now of course, huntress wizard represents Artemis, and Finn represents Actaeon. The funny thing is, the roles are reversed! Artemis is the one spotting Actaeon bathing in a stream in the middle of the woods during the episode Flute Spell. I just thought this was funny :)
+Samwich The problem with that is that the guy was punished. I'd also say that when she called him an exceptional beast, she's Artemis and he's the golden fleese, the goal of her hunt, but destined to never be caught. Unfortunately, a lot can come from that. Also the guy was blinded, but I guess you could say hw was also blind. the wolf hallucination kind of wrecks shit tho.
Samwich I wasn't going to go into specifics, but yes that was one of the stories I was most thinking of in terms of the classics, as well as Apollo and Daphne. The woman found among water is a trope prevalent in all cultures-but yes, particularly in Greek myths.
Now that would be radical. I've been meaning to read more as of late, and I've poured a lot of time and energy getting involved with, speculating on, and re-watching Adventure Time. Heck, they could probably even sell it all digitally (but nothing beats a nice little hard-cover, bristly-paged book)
I know I'm 4 years late on this, but I think it's worth your time catching up on. I was the same way too, but I finally finished watching the series a day or two ago 😆! I bought the complete set of the show and just watched the episodes at my own leisure.
Wow! (: You're so right, friend! =) They make just the most absolute cutest couple that just warms your heart and makes it feel like strawberry kisses! ^-^ Although it may not have lasted long, you shouldn't fret or worry one bit, friend! (= We can always smile and cherish the time they had and hope their feelings can be rekindled later on! :)
Finn is such an interesting character, he’s color blind, has confronted death in the lich, said goodbye to the only “living” remnant of a family in his mom, has abandonment issues, goes through a very realistic puberty with how he’s super immature and naive to understanding and philosophical at the end, you see him grow up in episodes like hall of egress, the hermit of dead mountain, the citadel, the miniseries, and that one episode where the comet takes him on a out of body dream, and where the catalyst comet gave him two options on life, even his trip to his mental vault and in together again Finn has a lot of unique characteristics and grows up through the series. I love all of the things they had for Finn every detail is kept consistent throughout the show and that makes him such a great character
I'm curious if in future episodes of Adventure time, will things between Finn and Huntress start getting a bit more serious, leading to a possible relationship that might actually last so much more longer.
your insistence on interpreting "maid" as "a cleaning person" makes me wonder if you know that "maid" can also have the less professional meaning of "maiden", "girl", "woman", etc. It is the singer's use of a word for "woman" that ALSO has connotations of cooking and cleaning that makes his misunderstanding of how love is meant to work apparent.
I thought it's so commonly known that it's not necessary for me to state the obvious. It's also not an interpretation that "maid" in the song refers to a cleaning person - the song literally talks about a maid due to the layer of separation that relationship has - the professional distance yet close proximity and involvement day-to-day is the sort of relationship the character who's "singing" the song longs for, because he's essentially afraid to put his heart out there again for an actual proper romantic relationship. The fact that maid also refers to a young woman (archaically to virgins, but that's irrelevant here) is inherently obvious as the song is clearly fusing both concepts together which just makes the character in Neil Young's song come off all the more confused. He's confusing his want for a romantic partner with just wanting an actual cleaning maid and bounces back and forth between the two. The maid component is important to the analysis, the romance part of it just referring to a woman is self-inherent as the video is literally about the topic of romance and the song is unequivocally a song about romance. But apparently not including an outright "maid means young woman" made quite a few people think I don't know the other definition of maid, lol. Shows what I get for assuming people are familiar with the obvious!
You know, I've been watching some of your old videos, and I gotta say, listening to you is like listening to a college professor giving a lecture. You know, with Adventure Time ending next season, its may not be too early to start thinking of a fitting tribute to this wonderful show and all its given us. You could write a book. Like an anthology of essays discussing all the themes and philosophical messages of Adventure Time. Sort of like "Watchmen and Philosophy: A Rorschach Test".Think about it.
I thought "a man needs a maid" was more like "here comes housekeeping to clean up your mess" such as the mess that was present in cross over. if anything is foreshadowing about the maid (though I cannot say what that thing is foreshadowing completely). its that last line. "P.S. don't mess around and point the maid at your buddy, you goof. You already screwed up once." lemmy say that again. " _YOU ALREADY SCREWED UP ONCE._ " that bliz is so ominous, the rules state I have to preform a haunt roll. good theory though, you clearly thought it through
Finn - dated a sentient bit of fire - wants to date a sentient bit of gum - brother is an alien stretchy dog - friend is a literal vampire - friend is *THE* *LITCH* - ate a computer and has auto-tune voice - kissed like a million woman - had a sword made of him who became a grass Finn - weird
You're actually a super good theorist. I've only seen to season 5, and this it the first video of yours i've watched, but i could easily understand all the information that you're giving. Super concise, easy to understand information, in a relatable fashion. Liked. Commented. Subscribed.
I rewatched Flute Spell, and just noticed that Huntress Wizard commented that Finn's flute playing was what she's been looking for because he had a grass arm. So maybe what Huntress Wizard was actually "looking for " was Fern.
Man, I can't believe I already watched this video. I only just rediscovered it after another youtuber got me back into FinnXHW. I'm still blown away by the thought you put into this analysis.
I've watched tons of your reviews, I wish you watch all my favorite shows so I can hear what you think about everything. I can tell how passionate you are by just watching your vids
I agree this background song really shows of how Finn is going through in his love life and I hope Finn can handle being a better person and more aware of his actions.
@JAY CHEN HEE that would be interesting! I've also heard theories that the song was referencing Finn and PB since Butterfly = Finn and PB = Bee( both have been referenced to these animals) and the "tree" is the tree house. (For the final wrap party, there was a drawing of them with some butterflies and bees too) I think the ladybug and worm symbolize Marceline and Jake in the regular version. HW seems kinda at peace or enlightened at the end lol The finale is pretty open ended so we can speculative about a lot of stuff 🤣
Mind...blown. I love this show. And rewatching it,you can always find something you didn't catch before since they keep up with continuity and detail. Great video.
I don't know so much english...but for sure I will learn it all just for your videos! I mean...the few things that I was capable to understand? Men...you are the best "Adventure Time" reviewer that I have seen! I wish there was people like you in the hispanic community :')
Let’s just talk about how season 6 is Finns lowest point in the series. I say this because before season 6 near the end of season 5 Finn loses FP because of a dream he had. Later FP comes to Finn for help because the fire kingdom was taken over after Finn helps FP he realizes that him and FP will never get back together but will always be friends. Finn then discovers that his human father is alive after completing Billy’s bucket list. Finns father is in the citadel a prison. In order for Finn to get in the citadel he has to awake prizmos human form because killing a wish master is a cosmic crime. Finn can’t bring himself to do it and with the lich being trapped in the wishroom the lich realizes he can escape by killing prizmos human body and he does. The lich is sent to the citadel where Finns father is. The lich frees all the prisoners including Finns father. While Going after his father Finn loses his grass arm and desires revenge against his father for leaving him behind. When Finn returns back home he realizes how much he misses Fp and desires a new GF. He tries going out with a lot of princesses but none them feel right and he still is missing his arm. I sympathized so much for Finn during this timeline
I'm kinda hoping that HW has issues to a lesser extent like Finns where she ends up playing a him that didn't learn the issue and Finn has to show her the way thus improving their bond it would be cool and interesting ps I like the warrior and hunter relationship I've always found it adorable because of them working so well together and always having each others back
This is a great episode for those men out there who have dealt with extremely traumatizing relationships.. it barely paints a picture to what life is truly like. But it's a pretty damn good description
And in a later episode while they were hunting for some kind of banana peel monster huntress wizard sayd that they both know that fin is in love with her and she kissed him... But now with the end of AT its realy sad that they left the show unfinished, we dont know what happened to Fin, Marcy, PB, FP, Jake and all of the other characters. When Regular Show ended they finished the last episode with all of the heroes living their lives till they get really old, but I guess that leaves us with our imagination
Now I'm not complaining or anything but, what is up with all these Cartoon Network shows having MAJOR story later in development? Like take Adventure Time for example, at the start of it it was like, "A boy with a sword and a magical talking dog going on insane travels," but now it's like, "You better not miss one episode because the series is so convoluted and you might not understand the story after if you miss it," Like I missed a lot of episodes because I didn't have cable for a while, the last time I watched the show was movie with the Litch and before I checked back with the show I thought, "I wouldn't miss too much story-wise," then I was like, "WHY THE HELL ISN'T PRINCESS BUBBLEGUM NOT A PRINCESS ANYMORE AND SINCE WHEN WAS HER NAME BONNIBEL AND SINCE WHEN WERE "BONNIBEL" AND MARCELINE EX GIRLFRIENDS?!" Then again it's kinda my fault for not watching Adventure Time for like a year and a half... But I do love how a lot of Cartoon Network shows are getting story development like the aforementioned Adventure Time, Regular Show, and Steven Universe.
I completely understand what you mean! I was thinking about that the other day shows like adventure time, Steven universe, and others are just like that!
Subbed. Damn, I knew AT had attention to detail, but this is something way deeper than I've ever seen in the show. Time to binge all your analysis vids. XD
Wow. I'm actually fascinated that you're still on about this years later. Face it. It's never going to happen. The show will end soon and goliad will never be seen again.
Alex McGillvrey It's an eternal duel. It will probably stay that way. Goliad was a failure, though seeing Finn interact with Stormo now that he knows he is the ultimate good in the universe would be quite intriguing.
Alex McGillvrey well the problem is that finn already set in stone Goliad's thinking pattern and the only way PB could 'fix' him is to have him killed and remade, possibly back into the same situation. Sometimes, some things can't be fixed
Awesome video, you thoroughly explained what you ment and showed how it correlated. I really like how in depth you went and constantly compared the song to the actual events and finns feelings. Great work man. Editing or images were great too, but I don't know anything about that.
i want finn and fp to get back together. There was too much left unsaid about their relationship. Plus finn hasnt been smart enough to use flame sheild on himself with her yet. He sincerly apologized to her. The door to with fp is wide open. Something has got to happen between the 2 soon.
I feel like I'm reading an argumentative essay that my teacher's assign in college. That's not an insult. That's a true blue, succinct argument right there, and you're persuaded me. Who knew so much foreshadowing could be made in five words.
could the "maid" be referencing an actual maid, as in the 15th century definition of "woman?" If I understand you correctly, you use "maid" as woman and "maid" as person who does your cleaning. It was a bit unclear, to me. Thanks for the theory, though!
it's about time someone love him. All the helping he been doing for free. Jake been had kids; I want to see a episode when they are fighting side by side.
To me, 'a man needs a maid' meant more something along the lines of 'a man needs a purpose/something to pursue'. For if we have nothing to strive for, what will we gain?
Actually it is not Finns fault for losing flame princess he had a dream of FP leaving him and the cosmic owl decided to show up, and when the cosmic owl is there the dream will come true know matter what.

:) love the comment
+Uncivilized Elk +Rachel Walsh
there was also an instance of the reversal of archetypes in Flute Spell that i thought was important to mention:
The ancient Greek deity Artemis is one rarely spoken about in legend. now Artemis, is of course, the goddess of the hunt.
+Samwich
The problem with that is that the guy was punished.
When you realize Finn never got a wife he was too broken at jakes death
My Apologies but a pillow girl named Rosaline would like to give you and Elks hearts
I really want the creators of Adventure Time to write a series of novels for adults about AT!
Now that would be radical. I've been meaning to read more as of late, and I've poured a lot of time and energy getting involved with, speculating on, and re-watching Adventure Time. Heck, they could probably even sell it all digitally (but nothing beats a nice little hard-cover, bristly-paged book)
WITH PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!

That's what fanfiction is for

At least adventure time is much easier to catch up on, with each episode only being ~12 minutes long, as opposed to shows that are 30-50.
Infinite view same
Well it's over now so you can catch up
I know I'm 4 years late on this, but I think it's worth your time catching up on. I was the same way too, but I finally finished watching the series a day or two ago 😆! I bought the complete set of the show and just watched the episodes at my own leisure.
can we just appreciate the beautiful cover of Im Just Your Problem in the background
"One's struggle their desire for companionship and his fear of being hurt"
finn couldn't have picked a better person, I've always been obsessed with huntress, and I think their like such a cute cartoon couple.
Charlie Pemberton except for the fact that they didn't actually get together...
dunt be such a Debbie downer, damn and I came back to this comment expecting positivity :c
That's just sad that you've being to happy about Finn not getting closure with HW. 😔😟
@@snow200ful You don't need to get the girl to live a fullfilled life dude.
Fern and HW/ Huntress wizard, the backstory of both of the characters make them a pretty good cuple, and since the are both grass-people
I'm curious if in future episodes of Adventure time, will things between Finn and Huntress start getting a bit more serious, leading to a possible relationship that might actually last so much more longer.
+Knox I friggin hope so
First episode of the actual season resonates. I mean, it was even cutter than with any of the other girls.
Lol, now its cannon. This theory was true
well it was left open in the ending. But Finn is still young and so maybe it came of true when he grow up
@@CarlitoxProductions its really cannon?😯
super awesome channel. i love the break downs. you must really (REALLY) love adventure time :D
your insistence on interpreting "maid" as "a cleaning person" makes me wonder if you know that "maid" can also have the less professional meaning of "maiden", "girl", "woman", etc.
Seriously awesome man, I can't thank you enough for this analysis and for showing me the song. Seriously solved a bit of an issue I was having
I love how 'I'm not your problem' by Marceline was playing in the background ♡♡♡
I loved HWs design for so long so I HAVE to ship her with Finn if only to see her more often
Same! When I saw they FINALLY made an episode with her, I was like "FUCK YEES"
between yesterday and today I've watched like almost all your videos. you are awesome and I love your analysis. ✌✌✌
+Saint HowL and i love that profile pic its amazing
NG Lazarus thanks that means a lot cus I drew it myself 😅
Saint HowL oh AWESOME :)
You already screwed up once."
lemmy say that again. " _YOU ALREADY SCREWED UP ONCE._ " that bliz is so ominous, the rules state I have to preform a haunt roll.
good theory though, you clearly thought it through
Really quality work, very hidden Easter egg I'm sure Pendleton was a huge fan either from his playing it or just cuz Neil was a legend :)
is Finn human? why does he look different then Finn Margret?
his alternate self.
David Quezada he's human. just different dimensions
***** he needs a nose.
David Quezada the character they call Finn the human?
***** yep. His nose left I guess.
Humanity evolved differently with all the magic in the world. that's why Bruce wasn't a goose.
Finn - dated a sentient bit of fire
- wants to date a sentient bit of gum
- brother is an alien stretchy dog
- friend is a literal vampire
- friend is *THE* *LITCH*
- ate a computer and has auto-tune voice
- kissed like a million woman
- had a sword made of him who became a grass Finn
- weird

I can tell how passionate you are by just watching your vids
okay I agree , but you playing the song when Finn said that was awesome timing
I agree this background song really shows of how Finn is going through in his love life and I hope Finn can handle being a better person and more aware of his actions.
The entire show is foreshadowing itself, any easter egg you find can be important to the story.
Damn, he's been with so many women but the only time he got laid was in pillow world
As we know of
I don't know so much english...but for sure I will learn it all just for your videos! I mean...the few things that I was capable to understand? Men...you are the best "Adventure Time" reviewer that I have seen! I wish there was people like you in the hispanic community :')
I want Huntress Wizard and Finn to go cannon
Wow. That is actually an amazing analysis. This is going to stick with me for future episodes.
Before being maidenless was a thing.
"you blew it man"
*i felt that*
Let’s just talk about how season 6 is Finns lowest point in the series.
Glad this popped into my recommendations, that song reference flew over my head while I was binge watching the show in its entirety ^^'.
earned a subscribe!!!! I admire stuff like these. things with detail :)
What a thorough, thoughtful, deep review of the episode. That was excellent. As a longtime fan of the show (and of Neil Young), thank you.
Considering we only have one season left of Adventure Time, I really hope we can still get good development for these two.
The content is interesting and the subtitles are highly appreciated, you good sir won a new subscriber
Pause at exactly 0:09
and to think cartoon network got away with that one
Lmao. Jake's and the frozen people's reaction are perfect.
I absolutely love the analysis in all of your videos!
I need to catch up on watching adventure time
I just realized that Farm Finn's parents ARE his Ooo parents in farmworld design.
Amazing. Really a great analysis.
"Hard meat don't get eat."
I absolutely love your analyzation!!
Great job on this.
No maidens?
I know I'm a bit late but this video has helped me realize that there are meanings behind this show and this video was all around amazing
Better then Teen Titans Go
Gang Plank True that
Cameron Cassidy Of you get Showbox on Google just search it you can watch basically any show and any movie for free
@@fashionsuckman4652 alright I'm just gonna leave this comment here so i remember
Subbed. Damn, I knew AT had attention to detail, but this is something way deeper than I've ever seen in the show. Time to binge all your analysis vids. XD
Any foreshadowing of when Goliad and Stormo will get out of their stupid "eternal" duel?
Detros Maybe PB should try, oh I don't know, fixing Goliad.
Alex McGillvrey well the problem is that finn already set in stone Goliad's thinking pattern and the only way PB could 'fix' him is to have him killed and remade, possibly back into the same situation. Sometimes, some things can't be fixed
Dragon fist0 Goliad is a girl actually.
I've watched some of your videos but this is the one that made me subscribe.
Maid is also a word for a young woman.
I feel like I'm reading an argumentative essay that my teacher's assign in college. That's not an insult. That's a true blue, succinct argument right there, and you're persuaded me. Who knew so much foreshadowing could be made in five words.
I wish we got way more Huntress Wizard
Hey, at least fan-fiction exists-

Loved your analysis, keep up the good work.
could the "maid" be referencing an actual maid, as in the 15th century definition of "woman?" If I understand you correctly, you use "maid" as woman and "maid" as person who does your cleaning. It was a bit unclear, to me. Thanks for the theory, though!
I thought so too! Like a young woman
Jane Doe maid or maiden?
it's about time someone love him. All the helping he been doing for free. Jake been had kids; I want to see a episode when they are fighting side by side.
Finn atleast he is not like ash if you know what i mean
Lol just a fucking pimp

You did great, truly a genius.
where can I watch these episodes there never on cartoon network?
Smile Works Get Showbox on Google it's free and you can watch any show or movie absolutely for free
To me, 'a man needs a maid' meant more something along the lines of 'a man needs a purpose/something to pursue'. For if we have nothing to strive for, what will we gain?
