Marshal Lee's mom being a landlord as the "real world" counterpart of a demon is pretty funny. Also it references that fin and jake's tree house is "owned" by marceline kind of
I really loved that despite being targeted towards a more adult audience now, the show doesn't abuse this fact, and because of that, the swearing from the characters feels very natural. And instead having the characters swear every ten seconds, it manages to be more adult and mature by just being more relaxed in its tone, which I think fits the story this spin-off is telling very nicely.
I personally really appreciated the blood when Finn stabbed the river creature or Simon got hurt. Not because "Yeah BLOOD" but because it was just enough and in the right context. We know the series won't be gory because it wouldn't fit with the show's tone, but the violence will be there when needed to make some moments a lot more impactful.
Adventure time, to me, is synonymous with "growing with it's audience." And this is a great way for the writers to explore way more themes present with young adults/adulthood.
Honestly, that tells me more about the state of adult animation atm than anything. Feels like a lot of shows need to prove that they're not for kids just because it's animation, so they do this by abusing swearing, gore, and sexual themes to the point that it gets tiring, and in some cases a bit disgusting.
I never realized how naturally things like alcohol fit into this universe. This is an adult cartoon. Just liberated to use whatever language and topics are advantages. Not over crassness
Nah, you're just used to hearing the characters say the latter. In the context of the show it makes way more sense that Queenie would say "Jesus," given it is a world paralleling our own.
This series is looking to be way, WAY better than I feel anyone could’ve expected. I don’t think this is just going to be a fun spin-off, but is actually going to deliver meaningful storytelling and depth that we’ve all come to love adventure time for in its later seasons. Really looking forward to more episodes and also really looking forward to more of your reviews!!! Keep up the great work
If Fiona’s world really is all just inside Simon’s head I kind of wonder if it kinda functions similar to something like the world in the Lego Movie. Where these characters we’re presumably created through someone’s imagination but they’re still their own person with their own thoughts
I did not expect Fiona and cake to be this fucking well written. It sends shivers down my spine. It feels so damn genuine, it feels like the writers were well fed (I hope) The subtlety, the timing, the natural mystery and suspense of the show makes me so God damn happy. No hate to the last adventure time spinoffs/stories, but this is NEXT LEVEL!!!
Something that I noticed is that the only actual swears we hear are in Fionna's world alongside mentions of "god" and "jesus". Spoiler Theory Ahead: I believe that somehow the Ice King/Simon created an alternate reality with real people that have sentience, and that red beam that went into the IK's head is a glimpse into that reality. The park was remodeled 12 years ago which apparently this takes place 12 years after Come Along With Me, so when the IK became Simon again, that alternate reality turned into what Simon remembers of the 20th century and what life was like before the mushroom war. Fionna mentions how she has been having the same dream for 3 nights, and Cake hasn't been eating and acting strange for that same time frame. In episode 2 Simon says to the little girl who's obsessed with Fionna and Cake that he told her "Yesterday and the day before that" that he didn't write those books, so it has been 3 days that this little girl has been bothering Simon about Fionna and Cake. So my theory is that the whole alternate reality is being constantly affected by Simon's mind, and after Come Along With Me, they have been following 20th century life along with the language such as actual swearing and "god" and "jesus" rather than Glob, but because Simon was reminded of Fionna and Cake by the little girl, he began thinking about the books again, making the people in the alternate reality start to have dreams about their previous lives in the alternate land of Ooo 12 years prior, that's why Fionna is having those dreams, and why Cake is also having those same dreams even as a non-magic cat.
BRO I HAVE BEEN SUSPECTING THIS SINCE THE TRAILER BECAUSE OF ALL THE HINTS AND WEIRD GEOMETRY IN THEIR WORLD 😭 But also bcuz cake LITERALLY jumps out of Simon’s head like😳 and PLUS THE FACT THAT THE ONLY SHOW FIONNA HAD ON HER TV WAS CHEERS??!??? I just KNOW this world is some sort of manifestation of Simon’s mind! The only thing Is I hope we can get some sort of answer as to where that read beam of all of Fionna and cake’s adventure came from that were beamed into ice kings head AND would hope to see we can get a look at the REAL gender bent version of ooo
The intro made me so happy seeing the human “counterparts” of everyone. Also *spoilers* loved how they show Marshall Lee and “Gary” eventually meeting up
@@Xio189 He's not race-swapped. He was originally played by childish gambino, a black man, and marceline's mother was a black woman in the original show. Marshall Lee/Marceline are grey cuz of Abadeer being a demon. Here Marshall is a normal human, so his dad(original Marcie's mom in this universe) gave him his skin color most likely, though we have no Idea how Ms. Abadeer looks in the series just yet.
I've been craving more videos around Fionna and Cake, and by far you are the best when it comes to adventure time analysis hands down. I know whatever you're able to produce as more of the show releases, your subscribers will be happy with whatever you are able to provide. ❤
All I can say is *"It was perfect. Perfect. Everything, down to the last minute details."* I absolutely love every second I watched. Since targeted audience is now more mature,so they really went with it. (Also Idk why many characters are so caked but yk I ain't complaining either)
Yeah! I loved the more mature humour didn't feel tacked on ans allowed jokes the original show wouldn't be able to tell, and the Fionna world is being quite fascinating and compelling so far
episode 1 is the introduction to this new world, episode 2 is checking back in on the original world with a new perspective. Simon is almost definitely connected to this fionna and cake and their universe, between cheers being the only thing played, the betty statue being built 12 years ago and the parallels to some of the things that are actively happening to simon show up in fionna and cake's universe
When Adventure Time comes back, Uncivilized Elk comes back with it! Fr though, I've always said the show just isn't the same without you here to analyze it, so I'm so glad you'll be tryin to make some reviews lol
Yeah I definitely agree with your overall thoughts on Fionna and Cake because I'm in the same boat of someone who never really cared for the genderbent episodes in Original Adventure Time but I am adoring the characters in this series, especially Fionna. She might be one of my favorite characters if the rest of the series delivers on her really entertaining personality.
one of the things i am really sure about is some episodes will be called "Fionna the Human" and "Ice King", cause dude if not thats a missed opportunity
"Fionna the Human" would be reduntant seeing as the first episode is already titled "Fionna Campbell". "Ice King" could still be, but unlikely. There's probably going to be an episode named "Cake the Cat" though, maybe episode 3.
With the pattern in the original series, I'm pretty sure one of them is gonna be called "Simon and Betty" or the other way around to fit the narrative.
I'm so happy you're reviewing these episodes I was really hoping you would, I relate to Fionna's intro so much I listened to it before going to work today lmao.
I felt quite the rush seeing you upload this. After I watched the first couple episodes I couldn't stop thinking of you and was hoping you enjoyed it as much as I did! I'm quite excited to watch and hear your thoughts ~
It’s always such a great joy when I see you in my subscription feed. I hope you know that even if you only post occasionally, I’ve enjoyed every video for the past six years!
I'm so so happy that you're making videos again, dude! I enjoyed this one like always. I do have to correct you on something tho; Fionna's boss (the one that says "Jesus!") isn't The Mummy, she's Queen of Ooo.
Ngl one of the things that made Adventure Time enjoyable was coming to watch your reviews afterwards. Exactly that was the thing I was looking forward to the most after these new episodes dropped. You make great thoughtful, insightful videos and I appreciate you a lot❤️
These first 2 episodes were *exactly* what I was hoping for and I think we're in for quite a ride. I don't really have any theories, but between the trailer and these two episodes, I'm getting some classic fantasy adventure vibes that really fit in with Adventure Time (i.e. Alice in Wonderland, Wizard of Oz, and the Neverending Story [the book more than the movies]). The music was incredible too, and I'm going to have to pay more attention on rewatching, because I was too busy looking at everything the first time. So many great easter eggs.
The opening theme for the 1st Episode felt like an opening from a classic 90’s sitcom and I enjoyed it! I really do think this series was made for the audience who grew up when Adventure Time first aired and honestly I am looking forward to more episodes!
So I have a theory. In just the first episode alone we see a load of Golb imagery and of course this is a multiverse story so, since we technically don't know who the villan is, it could be anyone! Now then, I want you to look back to the episode "Whispers". Who was the main villain? Yep, it was the Litch. You may be wondering, "Well, how does Whispers tie into Fionna and Cake? Well, if you remember, the Litch said that he was the "Last Scholar of Golb". Even though the series proper has ended we never got an explanation for this. Now lets also go back to the 2nd Farmworld episode. In this episode they nearly kill Farmworld Litch but, Jake tosses his hand into the Multiverse pool thing. Because of this we now know that a version of the Litch's hand exists in every single dimension. Also, in Whispers the Litch says something along the lines of "In some worlds you bested me but, I always came back.", so this means that some Finns defeated the Litch others were killed by him. So, since Fionna is technically a version of Finn the Litch or multiple versions of him would probably be trying to kill Fionna. So there you have it, my theory on who the main villain of Fionna and Cake is.
When I saw this show for the first time and finished the first 2 episodes I immediately ran here to see if you reviewed it and I'm so happy you're back man.
i just realized u came back, congrats. hope everything is going well for u. U are one of my fav youtubers and ur vids are soo well put together and amazing .
My theory is that the universe Fionna Campbell resides in is real but manipulated in some part by the crown in the past. The crown's purpose to fulfill the user's wish. However, when Urgence Evergreen explained the fantasimal design to the crown, from my memory he never said it could only be used once. Rather, the wearer just had to focus of the their truest wish. And because that tidbit of information was never passed down to future users, the first wish remained as id guess as a ensurence that the wish would continue in the face of uncertainty. However, the original prurpose remained. And in Simon's insanity inf making up fanfiction, he desired it most the stories of Fionna and Cake to be real but never could believe it could be real. Simple if he focused hard enough and had faith, perhaps. But He could only focus on how it's not real, giving into his gloomy sadness he often spiraled into as Icy King. Yet it did grant wish in some form. Ice King believe it could never be his reality, but the crown made it so it's real in another. Explaining why the crown is projecting fanfic adventures. When Betty reset the crown, it undid all the work it was keeping together. Collapsing the fantasy elements and reverting it back to normie times.
Please keep your reviews that simple, they really don't need to be overcomplicated and we truly love that you can manage to at leash pubish them despite the personal struggles you face through life. If you ever want to theorize or analyse more, you can always do it later. Thank you for your work, it's already awesome to have some people like you talking about Adventure Time in nice ways like this
The city is geometrically glitched! I was racking my brain over a weirdness I noticed during Fiona's walk. She passed by a shop with a tree trunks like logo on the door but just prior is the logo much larger and offset right though the middle. I couldn't tell if the design was on some weird metal storefront door or something but no, the wall itself is showing a geometric glitch there. I love how much little detail is put on every inch of this show!
Yay! I immediately thought of you as I was watching these episodes, and I'm elated that we got a video so soon. Hope your mental and physical health is doing ok, Mr. Elk. Your fans love and appreciate you
I immediately thought of the fact that Marshall’s eyes widening as he asks where Fionna got the cookie was going to be the start of him and Gary’s romance. I really hope they handle that part well because I’m so eager to see it.
Been waiting on this so i can watch my show with my own opinions. But man, you really NAILED what the world was with the ice king and magic and everything. Excellent Edit: I too, had low expectations but oh my god it was excellent! ALSO solidarity with the writers who never get enough credit!
Spent so long trying to figure out who the flower hair girl was, you're totally right, that's Fern. Ferrona? Fernanda? Fergie? Always happy to see you upload :)
I saw you uploaded about the new Fiona and Cake and I just knew I had to see it for myself first. I really enjoyed your insights, I didn't catch that Huntsen Abadeer advert! I'm excited to see your next video :D
No fucking way! I am watching the ep again and thought about you and how I miss your videos and I search and find this. Love you man! Can't wait to watch ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Maybe it’s like infinity train with Amelia and Betty is trying to create a perfect world for Simon because she sees he’s not happy? Could explain why the world is glitchy and seems connected to Simon, not the current ice king. Just theorizing at least
Fully agree with your video, two biggest things: 1) I'll be honest I think people are being a lot weirder about Fionna taking her pants off in the one scene just because she's a woman. If Finn did the same thing no one would comment on it. 2) It feels like there was enough emphasis on the gingerbread man Gary made losing its leg, mixed with the fact Fionna's not missing her arm like every other version of Finn, that it's gotta be foreshadowing
That's always how its been. Men and women express their horniness differently. There is also the benefit of Fionna being a fully grown adult compared to Finn being a teenager in the original series.
Damn, things in my life are starting to become better and now, not only this show drops, but *YOU* make videos reviewing it?! Damn, it's hard to make things better than this. Love your analyses
Okay, Prediction time: The world of Fionna and Cake is real, but Simon created it. Remember "Rainy Day Daydream"? Jake was able to create invisible stuff just with his mind. This is probably a similar situation, especially since Fionna has not one but at least to pictures of daggers in her flat that look just like the knives from "Rainy Day Daydream".
Yeah, I'm also going to miss the invented words of the original series now that they are allowed to say the forbidden words, but I like to think that it will make this series unique among all things adventure time.
I really liked seeing Starchy and some of the characters not being forced to gender bend. As of the Fionna-verse being inside Simon's head I think is the most plausible theory, because of all the connections, the 12 years, Betty literally being erased from existence but she's a statue somehow. Cake probably jumped into a Pillow-world style portal at the end there.
Something interesting I've noticed is that Fionna's 'real world' is distinctly set some time around the 1990s - polaroid cameras, those nokia phones just barely migrating away from being bricks, cheers on TV to name a few. It's interesting that the animators took such great care to date the show to such a time.
An interesting detail from this episode is that there doesn't seem to be anything out of town. In the bus everyone is a local, and from how fionna talks about it, it seems like this is just how everyday is and there are never tourists on the tour
My prediction for the series is that everyone in Fiona's and Cake's world essentially came in existence as a result of GOLB/Betty's existence as a complete different being, and that caused the creation of this universe. It could also explain why in this world there are so many similarities with the world we already know of. For instance the "Cheers" theme song. Garry (Prince Gumball) said that he and Fiona known each other since "forever", and its strange for the people in this new world to have dreams that allude to their magical counterparts. I feel like by the end of the series Fiona and Cake will decide to go back to their world, and Fiona decides to be either a actress or director, storyboarding her own version of Fiona and Cake, that could explain how there seemed to be Fiona and Cake tapes in the Land of Ooo.
Marshal Lee's mom being a landlord as the "real world" counterpart of a demon is pretty funny. Also it references that fin and jake's tree house is "owned" by marceline kind of
being the ruler of the nightosphere is essentially the same as being an evil landlord

And instead having the characters swear every ten seconds, it manages to be more adult and mature by just being more relaxed in its tone, which I think fits the story this spin-off is telling very nicely.

Elk. Your fans love and appreciate you
Elk is back!! Welcome back mate! So good to have you back ♡
Ive watched and rewatched your adventure time videos for years, its so nostalgic to see you post about the series again 🎉
Sooooo happy to see you back !!! I hope you are feeling better you helped me through dark times with these videos seriously!!!!
I was waiting for Elk's reviews! So glad to see you doing adventure time reviews once more man, these will be fun weeks to come!
Excellent
Edit: I too, had low expectations but oh my god it was excellent! ALSO solidarity with the writers who never get enough credit!
Spent so long trying to figure out who the flower hair girl was, you're totally right, that's Fern. Ferrona? Fernanda? Fergie?
Always happy to see you upload :)
Always thrilled to see another upload by you!
OMG so glad to see you back at these AT reviews! Hope you are doing well man!
So happy to see you back. I squeal every time I see your videos drop
Hell yeah!!! It was a mindblowing set of episodes. I can't wait to see the direction they take it. Will the next batch maintain this momentum?
Batch?
I owe my love for Adventure Time to you, when i saw the announcement for the series i was looking forward to this video the most. :)
I saw you uploaded about the new Fiona and Cake and I just knew I had to see it for myself first. I really enjoyed your insights, I didn't catch that Huntsen Abadeer advert! I'm excited to see your next video :D
It's great to hear your voice once again, Elk! You have been missed.
No fucking way! I am watching the ep again and thought about you and how I miss your videos and I search and find this. Love you man! Can't wait to watch ❤❤❤❤❤❤
not gonna watch this yet because i don’t want spoilers but am happy when i get a notification to know you are still making vids :)
Yes!!! Boy! Uncivilized Elk is back baby!!!
Im so happy to see you back man, super excited to see more of your videos and I hope you've been doing well.
Sidenote: Fiona just like me fr
Oh wow I didn't realize you became so active again thanks for putting your thoughts out there
Wow! You got the theory about Fionnas world on point!
If you look close enough at Fern, you can see the Buck teeth poking out in some frames
Maybe it’s like infinity train with Amelia and Betty is trying to create a perfect world for Simon because she sees he’s not happy? Could explain why the world is glitchy and seems connected to Simon, not the current ice king. Just theorizing at least
Proven wrong in the next batch of episodes lol,the episodes were amazing AAAAA
you were the person i was waiting to upload a video about this, hell yeah. also thanks for CC
Fully agree with your video, two biggest things:
1) I'll be honest I think people are being a lot weirder about Fionna taking her pants off in the one scene just because she's a woman.
Good to hear from ya Elk. It wouldn’t be adventure time without your commentary.
glad to see you're still posting :]
This show is my favorite release of 2023 so far. Really glad we'll get to enjoy it together!
hello!! it’s so great to see you back
yay! can't wait for your analysis of the first two episodes!!
Glad you’re back! Super excited about this series, already loving it.
Damn, things in my life are starting to become better and now, not only this show drops, but *YOU* make videos reviewing it?! Damn, it's hard to make things better than this. Love your analyses
it's so satisfying hearing someone predict something correctly
That's why he's the goat the 🐐!!!! Wake up honey! Uncivilized elk uploaded! ❤
The prodigal son returns! So good to see you back.
I’m just as excited for more Uncivilized Elk episode reviews as I am for more Adventure Time universe episodes! It feels super nostalgic :)
Im so happy you'll cover all the episodes!!
The window shapes and the shape some of the crosswalk lines remind me how of glitching things typically look in animated serires
I MISSED YOUR CONTENT SO MUCH 😭
Great video as always 🔝👍
It’s always nice to see the elk I always go back to your older content because it’s nice.
I love that we can always count on you posting a new video whenever a new adventure time thing drops
*two
Im so happy you're covering this:)
We missed you bro ❤
We're waiting for more videos and theories
Glad you're back dude :)
so happy you did a video! ❤
Yesss it's good to see you upload a video. I've always loved your adventure time videos.
This first episode was a great slice of life switch up from Adventure Time’s normal brand of wackiness and emotion. I really liked it.
OMG IM SO HAPPY YOUR REVIEWING THIS
God having this show go for a more early adult age group is just gonna make soooo many people relate who also saw the OG series while arring.
I feel like by the end of the series Fiona and Cake will decide to go back to their world, and Fiona decides to be either a actress or director, storyboarding her own version of Fiona and Cake, that could explain how there seemed to be Fiona and Cake tapes in the Land of Ooo.
i cant believe adventure time is back
