i agree, my friends give me shit for carrying a sig p365 with a thumb safety, but hey, its what im comfortable having pointed at my junk for hours at a time.
I personally don't care if a weapon on my hip makes other people nervous. They should be carrying as well, as a matter of fact I'm more comfortable around a stranger if he is carrying at the ready like I think an intelligent man should out in the boonies. In the city I'm more discreet and conceal carry.
Fortunately, I live in a Constitutional Carry state where open carry is also allowed. So it's not unusual to see people with a variety of firearms in plain sight, although hip carry is probably the most common. I don't think most people even pay attention to someone carrying a firearm. Maybe if you're in a large city they might. My EDC is a S&W M&P40 Compact, which I keep concealed. Mostly from the perspective of, if a bad guy is going to do anything, it's going to be "take out the good guy carrying."
Thanks, a scensable bit of advice. I work on a small farm here in Namibia. I carry all day, every day. Just a little 38 snubnose revolver. I carry it 4 O'clock in a IWB holster stuffed between my jeans and belt. Most of the time I forget it is there, but I know just where it is. When I go to town it rides in the same place in the same holster, but inside my pants. A loose shirt or jacket over it, the gun does not bother any one. God speed.
@Swish82 I think I have a permanent dent in my skeleton from carrying mine there for 30 years too! I can tuck mine in my pants and take off on a full sprint without it moving a bit!
You haven't met enough homesteaders in northern AZ. They're all carrying, but you won't often see it. When so many people show up unannounced these days (FedEx, UPS, Amazon, etc), they don't want everyone knowing what they've got on them (same reason you probably conceal in town, except now they know where you live).
.357 4 or 6 inch model 66 most of the time and a .22 on the lawnmower sometimes in a vertical shoulder holster to help keep it clean I’ve been carrying for fifty years . Also like 4 o’clock and cross draw a tanker rig has its purpose to .
I carry a Taurus Gaucho revolver in my pickup glove box (74' F250) and it sits inside an old Hunter holster I can quickly snap on my belt, it's always loaded and I have a box of shells for backup. I just go from home to work out on a farm and into the grocery store in town once a week. I live in a very rural area and don't need something on me constantly but it's nice to have in my truck.
I do the same exact thing with a pistol. Only difference is I wear a button up long sleeve shirt. Some times a revolver, some times a Glock. I’m a ranch hand on a cattle ranch that’s in South Texas. We have a homestead about 30 miles north of that. I carry a bolt gun on the dash for predators and varmints. There’s an AR in the back seat because we’re close to the border and I find illegal sign a lot.
I don’t get the bad rap FMJ gets. It’s not like hollow points don’t go through things. Know what’s beyond your target is pertinent in combat shooting as well. I still carry FMJ at times. 🤙🏻
I carry appendix and train with a tucked-in tshirt, with a looser, casual, button-down shirt over it. I rarely get hot or uncomfortable in the summer. Also, when driving, I place the seat belt between my firearm and body. It is never in the way. For context, I have a "slim-ish" body build at 5'7" 163lbs. I live in a metro area. If i go out to the countryside, i open carry on my hip. Train both ways.
@piratecat990 I would encourage you to put the seat belt over the holster, not between you and the holster. Tucking it behind the holster makes the seatbel ride up higher than "normal", and can/will cause severe injury if you're ever in a collision or wreck. If it's over the holster, it still allows the belt to sit down lower where it's supposed to ride. Yes, you'll get some major bruising from the holster if something happens, but its still safer than the belt sitting up above your waist
My EDC on my Homestead consists of my Ruger LCP Max which I have at all times, and then sometimes I will carry additional firearms. But the LCP Max with 13 Rounds of xtp + p is always on me.
Yep! I bust ass on the ranch every day. Wouldn’t dream of leaving the house unarmed. Nice to see you say stuff I’ve been on about for decades. Only prerequisite is being able to draw the damn things when you need it…
I'm 5'6", 150lbs, and I EDC a 1911 in .45 ACP at the 3 in a Safariland hip holster around town and on the homestead, but when I'm headed into the city it's usually concealed and in the front. Honestly, I print a little, sometimes, especially if you're really lookin', but I don't think most people pay another much mind. People got shit to do. Ain't no one got time to be checking out lines around my beltline. That said, I've seen the look on people's faces when they see me carry openly or forget to slide the chest covers down, and it's usually a brief look of slight surprise quickly changing into one of, "Oh, that makes sense; he's tiny."
100% correct. And a better way to carry a full size pistol. Like a friend says, "I don't want to get into a full sized fight with a micro sized pistol."
Its interesting to me how alot of vets will say so many things are flat range theatrics. He said practicing drawing in 1.2 seconds is a flat range instagram guy thing. Thats something that is widely known to be effective training for civilians with a ccw, whether from footage of police or civilian shootings or stories and studies of them a fast draw is a requirment. You can comment on cool guy tactical reloads with a ccw being a range theatric but calling someone who trains to draw his gun in a second or under isnt a flat range ninja he is just better trained than you with a pistol.
Yeah, appendix carry is garbage. Super uncomfortable and you’re more likely to hang up on your shirt when drawing. Hip carry you can draw one handed, concealed or not. Appendix you need two hands; one to lift shirt, one to draw gun.
My Favorite EDC Holster for working around the property is the old Glock Combat Tupperware. The Polymer Holsters and Mag Pouches that are worn on the belt. I usually carry a Glock 19 or Glock 26, occasionally my Glock 30S. You can put the holster on your belt and it's out of the way and you never know it's there. I get out of my Truck or go on foot, and I put the pistol in the holster. It snaps in and is reasonably retained, similar to most Kydex Holsters. I usually carry at least one reload, so a G17 Mag stays in the Pouch on the opposite side. I can use it in the G19 or G26. Another handy Accessory I keep near my bed, is my "Oh Sh*t Bag". It's a small shoulder bag with a Pistol, Folding Knife, Flashlight, that I can throw across my body when things go bump in the night or I hear livestock raising hell outside, and I'm in my Gym Shorts. There is a pair of Rubber Boots by the door that I can step into before I go outside.
I run flux style chassis in a sling style bag. Non descript and faster than getting through my jacket. The hard part was finding a quality bag that wasn't tacticool so it doesn't stick out.
Good video ! Kimber 3" revolver in a DeSantis leather retention holster on my right hip or a Kimber 2" revolver in a Sticky holster in my pocket. Dry practice at home with snap caps and lived fire train with the same setups. 2 DeSantis cartridge pouches on my belt and 6 extra rounds in my change pocket of 38 HP, 38+P, and 357 mag. I wouldn't have it any other way !
I carry IWB, so always have an undershirt on for comfort. Carry on the left side (my weak side), because there is as much a chance of having to draw while buckled in the drivers seat, as not, and saves from having to fumble with a seat belt buckle. Also, when a rifle is slung over my right shoulder, it doesn't bang against my concealed piece. Ain't got to modify my concealed piece position in order to accommodate a rifle. Also carry my knives in the same position every day. Most importantly, practice shooting left handed, switching to right hand. And when I'm practicing draws and double tap, I do some jumping jacks to get the blood flowing, before drawing. Best to practice from all possible standing and seated positions. Having worked in prisons, bounced in bars etc... one never knows when and where trouble might come from.
That's great advice, I also love a chest rig, so much more out of the way, and with so many places now going for open carry, I think it is good say on a Saturday to just go grab an item from walmart or get a cup of coffee, and talk to people... rights which are never exercised are easily taken by the state... while we have them, we need to use the 1st and the 2nd in public.
In Texas we do pretty much everything under the sun but almost everyone carries on the ranch and or in town. The truck carries the long gun but most people will hip carry when out and about.
Hell yes, that's exactly how I carry myself, also long vest or long over shirts work even in the warmer months to hide your open carry and won't look too out of place.
I agree that you should carry how is comfortable but I prefer appendix just simply because my drawstroke stays the same pretty much regardless of what im wearing. Also can conceal a larger pistol with minimal printing. I carry everyday and agree that coming off as a regular joe is best in most instances
Long guns I know a little , hand guns nothing but I assure appreciate your knowledge when you explain the practical way to carry them and may I say still be cool. Stay safe man
We have a remote off road cabin where I carry a 12 gauge even to go to the outhouse. I have a backpack scabbard I use when fishing. A handgun is useless on the critters I have to contend with. When I am using power tools I have a places close by to hang the gun.
I’ve been carrying for over 40 years. I’ve trained with Glocks & have carried various models. I am retired now and carry a Glock 30sf at the 3 O’clock position. It’s a part of my body. Use what you’re comfortable with and know how to use it!
I’ve carried all different ways. I’m a recent convert to appendix carry. It took me a while to get comfortable with the safety aspects of it, but I’m good at this point. I’ve shot competition and have a ton of reps in live fire. I find appendix preferable in more crowded settings for access to the weapon and control. But, in a homestead setting I would carry OWB at 3 o’clock every time. IWB isn’t comfortable when you’re moving into different positions and doing physical labor. And speed is less of a priority than simply having a gun. So, do what you’re comfortable with for the situation you’re in at the time.
I have two carry gun choices. There both Ruger LCRs, one in 357mag and the other 22lr. I carry one or the other Depending on the circumstance. Around home, cutting grass, or chores I carry the 22. I leave my home i carry the 357. I carry both the same way. Right front pocket carry. With two reloads in my right rear pocket. Case knife and flashlight in my left front pocket. It works for me. Thats why I do it.
I use a DeSantis leather slide holster for my S&W Sheild 2.0 M&P.45 ACP, and it took less than 2 seconds to clear the holster when I drew on a sow black bear with a cub. Luckily I didn't have to shoot.
I always carry 3-4 o'clock myself as well. I've got a bit of a gut and have had double hernia surgery, so appendix is a no go for me. What I'm wearing decides whether I grab OWB or IWB holster. Plus my training was all for strong side, so it just works best for me.
Hey nice shirt, wonder who made that ;) Good talk, I do EDC my G23 either Appendix or Hip, just depends how active I am and how much bending over or lifting I'm doing.
Carry a shield 2.0 all day , sometimes even after I get home just sitting with my family . It’s part of me after 5 years of almost non stop carry. I tried to get used to a czP07 but just couldn’t do it at 5.10 and 175 pounds. It’s not about printing but bulk.
I've never homesteaded, but it wouldn't seem practical to walk around with a pistol on my hip, if im trying to do manual work, fixing something, etc? Maybe, if i was riding around, that wouldn't be a problem?
I carry open. I've had a cwp when I lived in the city, but now I live out in the country, and am unconcerned about having arms concealed. Doesn't matter whether it's a long or short arm. Matter of fact, where I live cougars and black bear are quite common, so most of my neighbors carry, just as I do. My two favorites are considered cowboy guns, one in .45 Colt, and a M-94 Winchester in .30- .30. Never even raises an eyebrow out here.
Good stuff, personally where I am, I carry strong side, outside the waistband 24/7. In town, out of town, on the homestead, and in the woods. That's how I'm most comfortable, has nothing to do with being intimidating or standoff ish or anything else. If encountering people I dont know I simply change my stance and 99 percent of the time they dont even notice. I don't carry small guns for the most part, the smallest I carry is typically a glock 19 or glock 45 in a safariland holster. I also have been known to carry 45 colt single action armies, yet again, not small but it's been a none issue for me. Carry what you want, know your capabilities, and most importantly.... PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Not just shooting either, but your draw and reholstering aswell, its just as important.
Enjoyed the video and the common sense take. Live on a homestead myself. Typically carrying a j frame on my hip or in a pocket. Like you said, appendix is in the way doing any kind of normal everyday activity for me and bigger semi autos just aren't that comfortable doing farm stuff.
J frame in the pocket for me. Bad back, so it's easier on me to do the yard chores that way. If I have to go into town, no worries. The neighbor comes over, no worries.
Of course I carry a Dan Wesson! I live in eastern Maine and most people just don't care. If I'm going to a larger town then I carry a Canik with an extra mag. And yes I train with both Good video, thanx.
Gray Man works and the less people know about what you have the better, I had the cops called on me at the grocery store while open carrying (I didn't see their Little sign).
I carry appendix, whatever to each they're own. Have experienced with strong side of course and yep I agree with getting a better grip on the gun for the draw. I agree on everything you say man to each they're own.
Key word……. TRAIN. Go out and put the reps in with whatever way you decide to carry. Practice drawing from different positions with threats coming from different angles…. Get that work in.
Living in a town of 100,000 people in west Texas I can carry however is comfortable to me. But I do respect the fact that some people are freaked out by open carry. The t shirt draped over the gun is how I usually carry.
the main thing here is setting. Urban vs Country. one who lives in an urban area, pretty much has to conceal carry in the appendix position. its just the safest way to do it. i live in the city and carry appendix iwb in the city, but anytime im out in the mountains or country, i 3' OWB just like you. it just depends on the scenario.
In the city I normally carry 4 OWB with a cover garment. I like tucking in my shirts and appendix carry is just uncomfortable when sitting even though I'm not fat.
1:00 gotta disagree on appendix carry. i've been carrying appendix carry before it was cool. started in the 80's. carried every day with it. rain or shine, working and leisure. "working" meaning labor jobs, off time while i was in the military, camping, in a vehicle out of a vehicle. etc. 100%
A person's size can dictate how they carry. I'm 5' 9" with a 42" chest and a 32" waist, so I can OWB at the 2 - 3 o'clock with minimal printing. I do find carrying appendix with a button up work shirt is easier to draw, for me. probably 1/3 of CCW/CHP holders carry and probably 1/3rd of them train. I have heard many say " just showing a gun will cause the bad guy to flee", that type of thinking will get you killed. I have drawn a handgun in defense of my self 4 times. Once on my property due to a poacher, twice while working (tradesman) and once out with friends. Even with training, I got tunnel vision the first few times, by the 3rd time my brain was able to push through the adrenalin rush
I honestly don't know how Mexican carry got on the scale. Gave it a different name and now its rad. Ya your right about them holsters, don't need level 2 , 3 for everything or hardly at all really. Retention holster is great enough
The best concealed carry pistol is the one you will have on you every day. I wear a Glock 22 with a full duty load in a Bravo Concealment holster and dual mag holder. I use the pancake loops and set them to ride as high as possible on my belt. It’s the most concealable holster setup for a full sized pistol. Comfort wise on a scale of 1-10 (10 most comfortable) it’s about a 7…probably due to the sheer weight of the pistol. Your hip/side breaks in though just like you break your feet into your boots 🤣🍻👍🏻
I live in a rural area have been Broken into several times When I worked now that I’m retired been carrying every Day 24/7 live between 2 Towns two many ways They can escape the law Only comes around now And then probably to Collect their cut ??
I'm sure this will start a fire but fuck it. In my younger years i was always trading pistols trying to find what i liked so the Israeli draw just made sense. I've trained in this for forty years with all the myriad firearms. Finally settled on glocks. Still dont carry with a round chambered. I've had to draw 2 times under stress within the last 10 years (did not fire) and had to check afterwards if a round was chambered. (It was). Training is everything.
The correct way to carry is whatever way gets you carrying. And doing it safely and efficiently. Do what works for you
#1 Carry. #2 Train what you carry. #3 Done. ;)

Hey nice shirt, wonder who made that ;)
Good talk, I do EDC my G23 either Appendix or Hip, just depends how active I am and how much bending over or lifting I'm doing.
I agree with you, makes sense to go with what you know, so you'll always have a flow.
Carry a shield 2.0 all day , sometimes even after I get home just sitting with my family . It’s part of me after 5 years of almost non stop carry.
I tried to get used to a czP07 but just couldn’t do it at 5.10 and 175 pounds. It’s not about printing but bulk.
Love the Shield. Nice piece to carry.
I still carry a first gen shield with a tlr6 it’s outdated but an absolute tank
I've never homesteaded, but it wouldn't seem practical to walk around with a pistol on my hip, if im trying to do manual work, fixing something, etc? Maybe, if i was riding around, that wouldn't be a problem?
Good sensible advice!
Get yourself a El paso saddlery Tanker holster. Great holster!
I am subscribed and notifications turned in. Have not seen any notifications in about a month. You tube playing games!
Glock 17 in a kydex holster on my dominant side hip. I work at a gun store and open carry there that way too. Don't even realize it's there anymore
Best videos on UA-cam. Where did you get that jacket from, really looks comfortable!
You have the most realistic info. Tks
Old Timer fixed blade and a 45 long colt on the hip. Leather holster is so old ,the sweat marks are older than my dog
Of course I carry a Dan Wesson! I live in eastern Maine and most people just don't care.
If I'm going to a larger town then I carry a Canik with an extra mag. And yes I train with both
Good video, thanx.
Randall, if you hunt, do you do so with 5.56 or something else? Thanks!
What one Tigris holster were u talking about
Awesome. Thanks for your service. I am good on you, just open carry. I want your protection.
Yeah I prefer to carry outside the waistband and if I can't I carry in the same position concealed
Hip carry for the win. Been carrying for over 50 yrs at 4/5 oclocke
You had this Light Infantry vet at, “it’s hunting season!” Heh Heh Heh... Peace Be The Journey!
Your logic was Spot On!
What kind of pistol are you carrying?
Are you wearing a battle belt for your EDC on your property?
I’m ok with both but prefer appendix if I’m not doing work
the main thing here is setting.
@@connorperrett9559 yeah appendix is only really comfy when standing.
Its very nice to hear some good common sense. Thanks.
Good morning, and Happy Thanksgiving!
Canada.. lol everyday carry on the Homestead 20 coach-gun on my atv.. at all cost protect your second AM... well done video cheers times three
I couldn't agree more.
Brother, you are spot on. Subscribed!
Isn't that why coats have pockets? It's to carry a pistol is what I always thought! Gloves on one side pistol on the other.
I live in a smallish town
I like your reasoning and strategy.
Great presentation! Thanks!

gotta disagree on appendix carry. i've been carrying appendix carry before it was cool. started in the 80's.
carried every day with it. rain or shine, working and leisure.
Yep!
Solid advice.
Great advise.
Are you into compound bow archery??? at all just wondering please reply ASAP
You make total sense. Range theatrics training might be good for competition but it is not real life.
"If you don't have a gut" - oh yeah well I do freakin have one buddy so what LOL
no skivvies?
I live in a rural area have been
Broken into several times
When I worked now that I’m
retired been carrying every
Day 24/7 live between 2
Towns two many ways
They can escape the law
Only comes around now
And then probably to
Collect their cut ??
Your the complete opposite of harmless my good friend elmonte gruntproofo..😊😅 thanks for the video 😊😅
What is it that you carry?
I'm sure this will start a fire but fuck it. In my younger years i was always trading pistols trying to find what i liked so the Israeli draw just made sense. I've trained in this for forty years with all the myriad firearms. Finally settled on glocks. Still dont carry with a round chambered. I've had to draw 2 times under stress within the last 10 years (did not fire) and had to check afterwards if a round was chambered. (It was). Training is everything.
