My consideration....do I want it. It's a toy collection so it's not a necessity obviously but if I want it and have the excess money then i will get it.
Great list. I didn't vote in this one because I couldn't settle on one thing. Most of what's on here are criteria I use, but a figure has to check off at least three or four of them for me to buy. Although original toy color/style accuracy (G1, BW, Unicron trilogy) counts for a lot to me.

These days pretty much the only thing I buy for is to complete teams. Like with Legacy Quake topped off my Decepticon double Targetmaster updates. Or my ultimate goal of getting the best new updates to the core 84/85 characters and toy releases. The Ramjet I have coming from Amazon next week will finally finish off my 84/85 Decepticons for example. And in second place.. Do I have a hope of remembering how to transform it in 6 months or 1 or 2 or 5 years down the road.

The one time I kind of disagree is when the figure/toy is objectively the more or most accurate figure to date (not necessarily the best one) and the figure is no longer available at retail (now the only way to get it now is from eBay or someone selling it at inflated prices for what ever reason and there will be no reissue of it) and the person is on the fence to getting what could be their last chance. The retail price might have been too much but now the price is 3-4x the cost, what should that person do? By saying it isn’t worth it you stop someone from getting a figure that they might really enjoy or, more importantly, make them feel bad about buying something they really want. Yes they is about SS86 Hot Rod. This is what I wanted to say in a respectful and thoughtful manner but when I feel an argument breaking out I want to stop because what you do, putting yourself out their and possibly ruining your reputation that you have built over these years is not something that should be messed with. Especially with that’s is happening with D&D UA-camrs. It is seemingly a scary time for them and I would not want to hurt anyone's livelihood over any figure or dumb argument.
I stand by it. You have no clue what will be reissued or when. No one should ever EVER overpay. Be patient. Look diligently. Eventually, the right deal will come. I myself have at times waited years. Case and point, Unique Toys Warlord. Dude can go for 400 to 500. Um...no. But several years back now I managed to find one for 150. I was years looking. My advice is set a price you are willing to pay. Stick within maybe 15 bucks of that and you'll be happier in the end. Better than than sitting with the knowledge someone played you. I need it to ligically make sense to me and realize as part of a collector community that what I accept not onky affects me but everyone else in the community because everything I buy or do not but sends a message to Hasbro about what I will and will not accept. I definitely agree with alot of these. For me the appearance/presence and transformation scheme are probably my top. I have never and probably never will care about scale. Is it fun and does it look good while doing it? ROTB Scourge is a bit of a pain to transform but man does he look freakin' cool. (Especially with upgrade kits!) I have been grabbing the MP 07 movie deceptions as they release and LOVE how accurate they are. Do they scale well? Hell no, but they look amazing! Character plays a part too. My all time favorite is Shockwave. I will likely get every shockwave they release from now till forever lol. Great list, keep em coming!

I find it interesting that G1 related would be such a specific reason that people have that you called it out. If I may ask, did any voters say that they only collect characters that are specific to an alternate continuity, like the Bayverse or unicron trilogy?
Yes, G1. Hence G1 related. Specifically they said of it isn't G1 or G1 related it's not "real Transformers", I set them right. I might not like every era but I like many and we have the luxury of a rich tapestry of fiction. I hate when people stay stuck in one tiny segment but to each their own, I guess.
I've been real lucky with QC my two issues so far have been a shoulder on back to front on Dragstrip and my Studio Series Bumblebee movie Wheeljack has the loosest hips . Even my vector sigma is fine I seem to have got a second issue
This was interesting vote, and more interesting when seeing the result, because i've always thinking that my deciding factor was just fun transformation and price, but looking at this list and rethinking, i might have been unconsiously consider some of the other factors that is mentioned in this list.
For me, price 1. If that's off, nothing else much matters and the climb will be hard. Only way I get around it is because I refuse to ever buy another version of said character, Shockwave, for example. Siege fleeced us so no more Shockwaves will be bought by me

Hey mate! Would be cool if you made a video around how to go on to reduce your collection and tips and so around that. I want badly to reduce my own collection but don't even know where to start. Would be cool with a top 10 of tricks how to go on about it.
One thing I'm surprised that nobody mentioned was exclusivity or availability. There are many figures that I wanted but don't have in my collection simply because I couldn't get a hold of them and still can't. That may be a factor on whether you buy something or not if you think there's going to be a limited availability that might force your hand to buy something.

If you look back as far as Siege and 2019, you'll see that I am against overuse of exclusivity, against artificially inflated prices and feeble excuses (case and point, Topspin from TR and Spinister from Siege are both excellent, both have very little hollowness if any, well engineered and articulated. The only difference is ankle tilt and for some reason Spinister was 12 dollars more, get real, that's called scamming customers), and against scarcity economics that preys on fomo and toy/collector addiction. I find Hasbro an abhorrent company.
Mr. Dennis, 3 weeks ago I went to my local Walmart I have no affiliation with this character I just liked it when I saw it coming out. It was filch. And it pisses me off because it all it came with was its wings. I hate that I like it as much as I do. On top of not knowing anything about this figure.

For Transformers, the main things that i care about are: Is it fun to transform and mess with? Does it look good? Is it a character that i want? Is the figure known for good QC Does the figure seem worth it for the price? Does it have cool engineering? I don't collect any specific toyline, i have Masterpiece Figures, Generations, Classics, Unicron Trilogy, Alternators, 3rd Party, Universe, Studio Series, etc.

Price is important for me, too. That is why Titans Return Misfire and Nautica are not in my collection. Even though I want them, but not for what sellers are selling them for.
I get thay about Tigerhawk. That said, he is a cool design and the only edge into the Vok we have. As for the other two, yeah, if anything, wait for the right deal or the day they redo target mastets more.

Price is very important for me. One of my favourite figures is the humble 86 studio series Brawn. For the 25 euros I payed for him he has good articulation, colors, interesting transformation, is a pretty substantial figure for its size, not floppy at all, super cartoon accurate both in robot and Jeep mode and generally feels good to the hand and on the shelf. I feel like I should have payed more for it. Yeah, it's on the smaller deluxe side since it used to be a minibot but still, the price in relation to everything else makes me feel good for getting him.
All true but also don't forget that despite all that, those of us who bought him at full proce sent Hasbro a clear message that it's fine to remove plastic content and make them smaller. THAT will be their take away, unfortunately. I like Brawn but wanted a sale OR for him to offer more.
About the price part, you had a great example to show being just behind your right shoulder. To me in price point for around 40 usd Armada is great with only half a planet, it's historical too since it's the first Unicron with a planet mode ever created. But I would want something more from it and thats where Studio cell comes in. My criticism increases too because I always want good value for my money, and studio cell version almost deliver. That's why I can't stand Hasbros latest attempt. It's a huge cost if I backed it up and probably even higher now. Half of the planet is stored on his shins and are having difficulty standing on its own without the stand. On top of all that there's color inaccuracy to deal with too,so I need to paint to reach perfection and that paint ain't free either. But in the end, for me it doesn't matter. Because having Unicron isn't something I consider having, maybe as a backdrop poster in the future or something, because nothing scales well to it and then I need to get Primus too, and then we're in a territory of robots I don't know enough about to care to have a representation of. I'm trying to collect my ideal female Autobot lineup. The criteria is 'does she actually have a figure' and the answer is either 'no' or 'sweet merciful Primus what did they do to her'.
Do i care about this character/mold? If i already have this character/mold: do i like this one more then the one i already have? These are the questions i ask myself when considering to pick up a figure or not
I feel like I've picked up new Transformers for at least half of the reasons listed at some point And yeah, I completely get the not recognizing cars and trucks thing, I go through the same thing when I have to report a lost animal in the neighborhood and they ask about breed. No clue, I just try to describe the color and size lol
I only have 3 considerations, 1:- Do I own a version of the character. If not it must be purchased. 2:- Is it a better version of a previous toy of a character. If so is it financially viable, if so it will be purchased. 3:- Is the figure cool/part of a subline, if so must be purchased.
We are not the same. For me, it is proce above all. If I don't accept the value proposition, nothing else much matters. Second though is do I have a version of this character I am already happy with. Case I point, Slipstream.

Hearing that you get flack for being too harsh is hilarious. I'm constantly catching myself criticizing things that are just fine *because* I collect figures. Not many hobbies you can drop $100+ on something and be like, "it's perfect! But..."
I would watch the review of the figure, probably judge by its looks, transformation, and if the transformation looks bad, or has a horrible car mode, or robot mode, I would not get it. I have a few attachments to certain characters: Sunstreaker, and Ultra Magnus.
Wow. Animation / media accuracy is the thing I care about the LEAST. Transformers started as toys, and when you buy the toys, you are buying toys. Transformers are the coolest toys, but when you strive to make them show accurate, you diminish their potential as toys. You get things like faux window chests and overly complicated transformations. You get lack of paint when trying to match G1 or bland movie designs. Part of why Beast Wars is still revered today as one of the best toy lines is because it focused entirely on trying to make cool toys without having to slavishly match character models. The 2010 through 2012 Generations line reimagined characters in new designs, and that produced some of the best toys ever. People are all entitled to their preferences, but if you really just care about show accuracy, you should just buy the Yolopark figures and let the transforming Transformers have room to breathe.
Talking to the wrong guy lol. BW was smart, design toys first, show second, but no, cartoon is king and if it doesn't look like the show, I have less than zero interest. Price first, robots closeness to the robot on the screen has to happen.The main thing I hated about the G1 comics and toys was they A mevet looked like the show and B had major articulation limits. Just bought Thrilling 30 Swerve and Gears for cheap. Scalpers had the prices super high back in 2013. So i just waited for the prices to drop. My Dad was a Lionel Train collector for 50+ years, so i learned from him.

Eventually, found a set for 150, Canadian, that was comparable to the 120 a CW was all in.The other 30 I considered shipping. It was years of looking regularly.

If you look back as far as Siege and 2019, you'll see that I am against overuse of exclusivity, against artificially inflated prices and feeble excuses (case and point, Topspin from TR and Spinister from Siege are both excellent, both have very little hollowness if any, well engineered and articulated. The only difference is ankle tilt and for some reason Spinister was 12 dollars more, get real, that's called scamming customers), and against scarcity economics that preys on fomo and toy/collector addiction. I find Hasbro an abhorrent company.
Mr. Dennis, 3 weeks ago I went to my local Walmart I have no affiliation with this character I just liked it when I saw it coming out. It was filch. And it pisses me off because it all it came with was its wings. I hate that I like it as much as I do. On top of not knowing anything about this figure.

I am the ultimate coping person. I want to replace my childhood with transformers and my later years with vintage video games that I don’t even play.
I thought that was a very unusual vote but there is a certain elegant logic to it.
I’m surprised transformation sequence was so high on the list seems like a lot of people out there just transform it once and leave it in bot mode some people don’t even transform them at all! Also surprised buying to complete a series I thought would be on there which is why I’ve bought again the SS86 Galvatron, Springer and Blaster; and I know I’m not the only one who’s done it 😂

For Transformers, the main things that i care about are:
Is it fun to transform and mess with?
Does it look good?
Is it a character that i want?
Is the figure known for good QC
Does the figure seem worth it for the price?
Does it have cool engineering?
I don't collect any specific toyline, i have Masterpiece Figures, Generations, Classics, Unicron Trilogy, Alternators, 3rd Party, Universe, Studio Series, etc.
Everyone needs to collect however works for them but those are all wise questions to ask yourself, regardless of the line

A lot of debate over cartoon accuracy or toy accuracy. Just depends on the toy. I would love a Jetfire toy accurate figure over the cartoon accurate ones any day of the week
N-PUT is much number 1 toy accurate guy. I'm all caryoon is king but that's all matter of subjectivity.
Price is important for me, too. That is why Titans Return Misfire and Nautica are not in my collection. Even though I want them, but not for what sellers are selling them for.
Never liked Tigerhawk due to Tigertron and Airazor had to die to create him.
I get thay about Tigerhawk. That said, he is a cool design and the only edge into the Vok we have. As for the other two, yeah, if anything, wait for the right deal or the day they redo target mastets more.

Price is very important for me. One of my favourite figures is the humble 86 studio series Brawn. For the 25 euros I payed for him he has good articulation, colors, interesting transformation, is a pretty substantial figure for its size, not floppy at all, super cartoon accurate both in robot and Jeep mode and generally feels good to the hand and on the shelf. I feel like I should have payed more for it. Yeah, it's on the smaller deluxe side since it used to be a minibot but still, the price in relation to everything else makes me feel good for getting him.
All true but also don't forget that despite all that, those of us who bought him at full proce sent Hasbro a clear message that it's fine to remove plastic content and make them smaller. THAT will be their take away, unfortunately. I like Brawn but wanted a sale OR for him to offer more.
About the price part, you had a great example to show being just behind your right shoulder.
To me in price point for around 40 usd Armada is great with only half a planet, it's historical too since it's the first Unicron with a planet mode ever created. But I would want something more from it and thats where Studio cell comes in. My criticism increases too because I always want good value for my money, and studio cell version almost deliver.
That's why I can't stand Hasbros latest attempt. It's a huge cost if I backed it up and probably even higher now. Half of the planet is stored on his shins and are having difficulty standing on its own without the stand. On top of all that there's color inaccuracy to deal with too,so I need to paint to reach perfection and that paint ain't free either.
But in the end, for me it doesn't matter. Because having Unicron isn't something I consider having, maybe as a backdrop poster in the future or something, because nothing scales well to it and then I need to get Primus too, and then we're in a territory of robots I don't know enough about to care to have a representation of. I'm trying to collect my ideal female Autobot lineup. The criteria is 'does she actually have a figure' and the answer is either 'no' or 'sweet merciful Primus what did they do to her'.
Also a great way to control the size of upur collection and what you are purchasing

These are the questions i ask myself when considering to pick up a figure or not
I just spike about the same thing using my Prime FE Slipstream versus the Legacy United.

And yeah, I completely get the not recognizing cars and trucks thing, I go through the same thing when I have to report a lost animal in the neighborhood and they ask about breed. No clue, I just try to describe the color and size lol

I only have 3 considerations, 1:- Do I own a version of the character. If not it must be purchased. 2:- Is it a better version of a previous toy of a character. If so is it financially viable, if so it will be purchased. 3:- Is the figure cool/part of a subline, if so must be purchased.
We are not the same. For me, it is proce above all. If I don't accept the value proposition, nothing else much matters. Second though is do I have a version of this character I am already happy with. Case I point, Slipstream.

Hearing that you get flack for being too harsh is hilarious. I'm constantly catching myself criticizing things that are just fine *because* I collect figures. Not many hobbies you can drop $100+ on something and be like, "it's perfect! But..."

I would watch the review of the figure, probably judge by its looks, transformation, and if the transformation looks bad, or has a horrible car mode, or robot mode, I would not get it. I have a few attachments to certain characters: Sunstreaker, and Ultra Magnus.
Nova prime has some really good shelve presence and most bots I bought fit into my collection.
That's exactly why I try to cover so much to specifically help folks like you make more informed buying choices
Wow. Animation / media accuracy is the thing I care about the LEAST. Transformers started as toys, and when you buy the toys, you are buying toys. Transformers are the coolest toys, but when you strive to make them show accurate, you diminish their potential as toys. You get things like faux window chests and overly complicated transformations. You get lack of paint when trying to match G1 or bland movie designs. Part of why Beast Wars is still revered today as one of the best toy lines is because it focused entirely on trying to make cool toys without having to slavishly match character models. The 2010 through 2012 Generations line reimagined characters in new designs, and that produced some of the best toys ever. People are all entitled to their preferences, but if you really just care about show accuracy, you should just buy the Yolopark figures and let the transforming Transformers have room to breathe.
Talking to the wrong guy lol. BW was smart, design toys first, show second, but no, cartoon is king and if it doesn't look like the show, I have less than zero interest. Price first, robots closeness to the robot on the screen has to happen.The main thing I hated about the G1 comics and toys was they A mevet looked like the show and B had major articulation limits. I couldn't give a crap about faux parts of it all looks right lol I also have less than zero interest in model kits. Like 86 OP. Everything ought be that good and that accurate.

I'm just just saying I'm biased toward the best toys, which is probably closer to being objective really, but there is very little true objectivity.

Just bought Thrilling 30 Swerve and Gears for cheap. Scalpers had the prices super high back in 2013. So i just waited for the prices to drop. My Dad was a Lionel Train collector for 50+ years, so i learned from him.

Eventually, found a set for 150, Canadian, that was comparable to the 120 a CW was all in.The other 30 I considered shipping. It was years of looking regularly.
