@@bobboscarato1313 that's not true. Bipolar people have been helped with change in diet. Just because it's genetic doesn't mean it cannot be helped with change in diet.

My dad was bipolar. I just discovered carnivore a couple months ago and was talking to my dad about him doing carnivore. He had multiple health problems and other mental health issues. I'm not bipolar, but I've had severe depression since I was 12 (I'm 21 now). I tried everything to make it go away.I was exercising between 3-6 hours a day. Took omega 3 and vitamin d supplements, forced myself into social situations, etc... Nothing worked. It got worse and worse to the point I couldn't take it anymore and tried to overdose. Luckily, I survived. I ended up spending a few weeks in a psych ward, and was put on antidepressants. The medication helped, but I always felt the depression lingering in the background.
Fast forward a few months,I went carnivore to try and lose a few kg's. After about 3 days, every time i took my antidepressants, I would get this weird neurological feeling in my brain about an hour later. I decided to stop, and lo and behold, I was no longer depressed. In fact,my mood is the best it's been in my entire life.
What's interesting is, I went on amoxicillin not long ago, and the entire time I was on it, my depression returned. I definitely think because of this, the source of my depression was to do with the microbiome.

We were at a dedication ceremony for an historic house. The DAR (from elsewhere) had provided a spectacular table of refreshments - every single one with sugar as the primary ingredient. Those in attendance were high-achieving/high-class/rail-thin/gym-toned, and nobody was even glancing at that table (it's that kind of town - with the same Human Development Index rating as Atherton, Sagaponack and Greenwich ). It was a shame, that the DAR ladies' hard work was being ignored. Then along came the wife of a colleague. The colleague has depression issues. His wife has a whole constellation of anxiety issues. Their daughters are problems, in a multitude of ways, including diagnosed bipolar disorder and substance abuse. Their extra-crazy daughter is proudly Vegan, and becomes hysterical when other foodways are suggested. We were conferring, inside, and in came the wife, with a plate heaped with brownies, divinity, cookies.... "I couldn't let this go to waste!" Of all the people there, SHE would be the one to glom-onto those sweets. I think I see the root of that family's problems.

@@megaswenson That used to be me. I was raised up with garbage food and loads of sweets. I had no self control when it came to sweets, and in fact I would wake out of a dead sleep craving them. My mom ate a diet heavy in diet coke and Twizzlers up until she died at 60. I was diagnosed with bipolar in 2002 and have especially struggled with anxiety and depression. I likely would have never suspected my diet as the culprit. But I started having physical issues, including really severe bloating, along with many other digestive issues, and I had been suffering for years. I had started eating "healthy" and nothing was improving. It wasn't until my A1C hit 5.6 (prediabetic is 5.7) that I learned about insulin resistance, which led me to keto. I did that for 7 months and had some improvements, but not enough, so then I went carnivore. That was a year ago and my life has changed. But again, I would have never connected my diet to my mental issues if I hadn't accidently found the connection on my own.

I was told bipolar runs in families when my dad, my young daughter, and I were diagnosed in the 1990s. We were all placed on several psych meds for years with no improvement & lots of debilitating side effects. My daughter and I got off these meds but now have other chronic issues. Two years ago, I discovered thru a Functional Medicine Dr that she & I have 2 copies of the MTHFR gene mutation, which reduces our ability to absorb B vitamins. There was a good chance my father had it as well. I went on a Keto diet plan and improved. Now I am on a carnivore diet, and even my chronic inflammatory issues- Hashimoto's, NAFLD, Sleep Apnea, and Gluten-Sensitivity have resolved. I have also reduced my chiropractor visits from a 40 yrs old injury to once a month instead of 1-2x per week.
Carnivore has given me my life back.

I was calmer anxiety and panic attacks went away. It came to be in my mind to overcome. I moved back to NY and off keto and back to bad habits. Keep on pushed through. I never liked all the medications I got off them long ago changing foods worked. Exercise works. Routine works. Self discipline is whats needed. Family support is so helpful.

I NOW mention my diet to my mental health doctor every time I see her just to see the look on her face. I now eat lots of fatty red meat and no seed oils and a low carb diet. I’ve gone from 5 psych meds to ONE! And that one is a minimum dose! I am so greatful that I found this way of eating!! I hope more and more people find this diet because mental health symptoms are a HORRIBLE way to live! THANK YOU DR. BERRY!!!

I have been saying that the sugary cereals we feed our children ...aling with the sugary fruits and drinks are adding to their enotional imbalances...for years but no one would believe me.
But I have proven it myself by following your directives to switch from a vegetarian diet to a strict carnivore diet. My health has improved greatly. I can think clearer, no more pains, no more inflammation, no more headaches.

My health also was very bad G.I. issues etc. I fell upon you decided to go clean and get on the keto diet more for health reasons I’ve lost over 65 pounds in. But then my bipolar seemed to get better and I was questioning the diagnosis but after seeing this video I understand . I kind of fell off the keto and my bipolar has gotten pretty bad so back to keto I am going because feeling that good was a blessing. Who would’ve ever thought that the two had anything to do with the other. By far this is my favorite video you’ve ever made thank you very much.

Very occasionally, and if I'm in the mood, I'll fry up some beef liver, but I don't do that very often. In Finland, it used to be quite common for ages and still is, to think that you have to keep your blood sugar level steady, if not up, by eating snacks every few hour between the meals. Nobody even today tells you to stop eating sugar. And, carbs are told to be as important as protein. Nobody dares to claim that carbs are useless let alone harmful nutrition. So, we are still officially brainwashed to eat whole grains, cooked potatoes, lots of fruits, any vegetables, and avoid both red meat and animal fat.

About 12 years ago, I was on all kinds of depression meds and also other meds to combat the side effects. I went to see an allergist. Turns out I was super allergic to dust mites (which are everywhere). He told me to stop taking all those other medicines (which I was highly skeptical at first). I simply started taking OTC allergy medicine and all those mental health things disappeared. I also went from 10-12hrs of sleep doing nothing to fully energized off of 5-6hrs. My turnaround was so dramatic, my workplace drug tested me. No problems ever since. It's amazing how one simple change can repair years of misery.

I agree with avoiding seed oils.
Study showed shifting to low Omega 6 diet improved bipolar & schizophrenia symptoms.

I agree. In my experience any mental health issues I have experienced were largely due to malnutrition.

Indeed, what we were fed as children caused the problem: Bad food, bad attitudes, and BS. Resilience, angelic guardians, and other glimmers of hope keep kids going. 🙏

I can't recommend the carnivore diet enough for people with bipolar... I've been diagnosed bipolar 15 years ago and the only thing that I feel truly works for overall mood stability and understanding how to deal with your mood changes is combining carnivore diet with CBT. Medication either did not help or just flat out made shit worse with all the debilitating side effects. For me, zero inflammatory plant foods and lots of fatty meat seems to be the answer. It's like I'm allergic to all plants and reaction comes in the form of bipolar symptoms.

My 15 year old daughter is really showing signs of bi-polar and we are having her join us on our carnivore diet. Hope to see great improvements with her. Her Grandma dealt with it and so did her Dad tell he switched to a carnivore diet. Thank you for this video!!!

I was diagnosed as bipolar too. I spent the last year in a primarily devastating Lee deep pit of depression. For months I could barely get out of bed. My herbalist suggested that I start taking twice the recommended dose of a high-quality fish oil every day, 8 tons of avocados, vitamin D, and a B complex supplement. It was amazing! Those changes in my diet alone have done incredible things for my mental health. I’m not completely cured or anything like that, but the improvement has been significant! I am now working on re-balancing my gut health, cutting out processed foods and incorporating more gut friendly practices. I am not keto. I do not eat red meat. I’ve tried keto before and quickly got very sick of eating nothing but butter and avocados every day! It does not work for me. That being said, I know it does work for some people but if you’re not ready to go for keto, or it does not appeal to you, at least try the supplements mentioned.

I’m bipolar 1 and low carb for 5 years felt not much different as I had so many food intolerances and allergies but carnivore has made my mood disorder stable . I also have been off all my medications for 6 years now-pure poison and I do blame a lot of those medications for a ton of health issues and insuring problems I have today with my overall health but I’m healing now ! Think better , not in constant brain inflammation. I do think bipolar is basically brain inflammation!

ADHD here. Carnivore diet fixed it. My suspicion is that not only carbs are the culprint but also Oxalates. I have to thank Sally Norton for that critical piece of the puzzle.

Dr. Bery, I have been binge watching you since I found you! I have a mentally challenged daughter with bipolar disorder. I am definitely going to follow this plan. It really makes sense! I'm 71, the primary care giver for my daughter and my 89 years old mother. I have been going through some crazy health issues that have left me almost paralyzed and in extreme pain. I recently had to go to the hospital via ambulance. It was a terrible experience that left me in the same condition. I am asking you if you are willing to conduct a telephone meeting with me to see if you can help me. I'm more than willing to pay for your time and help. God Bless you for sharing your knowledge with us all.
