Quad Cortex Mini is coming...

  • We went to NAMM and NDSP had a very interesting booth. Here is some wild speculation.... why spend $35K on a booth space this big unless you are hinting at something big? NDSP releases plugins all the time, which usually just gets hints on their insta story... so again why put a giant "SOON" sign unless you have something big in the works? We already have a pretty big feature roadmap when it comes to the store as well as plugin integration so.... is that what is coming soon?
    I doubt it.....I think its hardware and I think NDSP will go smaller before they go bigger. UA, Tonex, and Kemper Player are all very successful pedal sized units and the QC, while being the smallest of the full-size units, is still a full sized unit.
    I think some kind of QC Mini is on it's way and I think it will feature stereo in and out, Dual amps... NDSP makes best in class products at a competitive price point so I would expect this to be priced the same as ToneX at $299 while being far more feature rich.
    Would you buy a dual capture QC Mini?

    The QC is the best modeler hands down. I had the HX Stomp. Took it back to the store and got the Helix. When the Quad Cortex came out I bought it and immediately knew that the Helix was done for. I traded the Helix immediately. I love my QC.

    The HX stomp is easy to beat. Yet, nobody has... I'd like to see more competition in that form factor and at that price range. I think the Kemper player competes more against the Tonex IMO.

    NDSP know all the marketing tricks very well. They raised a lot of eyebrows with their booth made all of us start speculating but most of all they avoided having to answer all those questions about PCMP. Win win for them indeed. I doubt new hardware is coming, they just bought time.

    I'm kinda glad that I've always a guitar chaser than another pedalboard chaser. I want more guitars. I'm very happy with my Helix Floor. All of this reminds me that everything in life comes back full circle, like the old stereo systems with the 33 albums. All of the tone chasing will eventually lead people back to, "I should have kept my tube amp" because that's where all of this will eventually lead to...back to the real deal.

    Dude if I can get a QC the size of tone X with plug-in compatibility!? Man! I’d buy in a heartbeat. A hardware extension of the plugins we already have would be INSANE! I’d honestly rather have a QC with everything the QC already has just adding the plug-in compatibility. If you ca do that in a smaller platform that’d be insane.

    I think if they do go mini they drop the profiling part for sure. They could restrict it to plugin only amps and fx or something if that sort.
    Look at the Ampero Mini. It has a touch screen, amps, cabs, fx, and true stereo out with a y adapter. There are many ways neural can retain a lot of the Quad Cortex without compromising FX or too much DSP. Definitely excited nonetheless

    Here’s my experience with QC. I’ve owned it for almost a year now and I love the sound. I upgraded from a Helix that I bought the first month it was available and have continually updated and played. It was rough at first but after a few releases they got the picture. Line 6 treats their customers very well. Back to the QC. The first problem was updating. Somebody thought it would be such a cool thing to use wireless. Yippie, the only problem was my wireless signal wasn’t strong enough so I had to go to my router and update from there. That’s handy. You can read about many users as thrilled as I. Next of course was the editor. Back down to the router I go. Okay it works. Now Neural tells me too bad I didn’t wait a few months because they would give me something free. But when those pesky plugins work we just might have something for you but until then we’ll just lower the price or your unit by two hundred bucks. Ain’t that customer loyalty or what. You folks are wonderful and a pleasure to watch. Please help an old dude feel better about being a dope.

    Neural player would be sweet. I just can not for the life of me cope with latency. I run an RME Fireface with really low buffer settings but it just never feels as direct as the Kemper, which is still a really small ways off an actual amp. If NeuralDSP could give me a player for the vsts I already bought, maybe a handful of their amps from the QC, a good selection of the effects or limit it to one stereo path or give me only 4 slots and a digital out in addition to analog outs… and get the unit below 600 bucks, why would I not give them my money?

    • @mehAudio
      @mehAudio 5 місяців тому

      @@joejohnson8966 I hear you. The reality is that you need to go through the DAW, so that’s 4.5 ms roundtrip at 32 samples buffer. My monitoring system is dsp based and adds another almost 1.5 ms. Which for A LOT of players is still perfectly fine. Not for my brain, though. I completely lose my timing (which is just fine with low/no latency) and I lose the connection to the guitar. Meaning: because everything feels like being stuck in amber, I play with too much force. And I can’t help it, the notes I hear are just not connected to my strings. I have recorded since basically 1999 and was never able to retrain my thoughtmeat. I still prefer an amp, but the Kemper for me is just within the range where I don’t have that disconnect. I have it connected to an amp and guitar cab and that works perfectly. Would I still appreciate Christoph providing us with a 96kHz update to further reduce latency? That’s a firm yes for me.

    • @BobbyCulpepper.srv3fender
      @BobbyCulpepper.srv3fender 5 місяців тому +2

      @@thesoozeTJ geez where do I start? How bout UI workflow, first getting to and from gig view requires an awkward swipe up that doesnt always happen and takes a lot of practice to get good at and lets hope your not sweating, a button to tap would be so much easier. Back and forth auditioning amps/fx it requires a few extra steps then it should and can be really frustrating especially under pressure, helix really spoiled me on that. With available fx's you only get a small amount of basic selection. A handful of delays and reverbs, couple of compressors and mods. It was promissed at launch better and more pitch related things. Like a drop capo type thing that still hasn't come and you have to use the whammy to simulate it. The cab system looks cool, but there is not a big difference changing mics and not many cabs included, getting IR's into the unit has been a big ordeal, it may be easier now with the Editor. The amp model selection is pretty scarce if you ask me. I do not like the captures, they really need some type of liquid profiling equivalent, because you have to be able to tweak and in this case it all really falls apart when you try to do so, especially captured pedals. But even if you were someone who liked captures, the way they organize them in the unit is horrible, make take 15 minutes of page turning to get to something that interests you, but if that turns out not to be it you gotta start all over, but thats more UI stuff. The wahs are not very useable, you cant adjust the frequency sweep on them. I really miss the ability to assign a function or multiple functions to a footswitch, many will say you can do that with scenes, but its not the same thing and very hard to explain that to people. With helix you can assign a single footswitch to do pretty much anything from turn on and off multiple pedals, change snapshot and presets, change settings. All while the other footswitches wouldnt be effected. Giving you lots and lots of combinations of function, even within a single patch. Finally, ive been paying close attention to how neural has been carrying themselves and i get the impression that after the plugin integration is done they wont be doing much else with the qc, unlike helix and fractal who have regularly added more of everything. Theres been 2 updates in a row now on qc they didnt add any effects or cabs or drives or amp models. You have to keep in mind the head of the company and designer, is a bass player and from what ive heard, when people in person have tried to tell him what qc needs he cant understand what they mean. Theres probably a few more things that I just can't think of right now. I tried fm9 i loved so much about it except for how difficult it is to use and tweak on the fly, but im not a fan of scribble strips and prefer the gig view type screen in the QC or helix LT. I tried using a kemper but it too seems difficult to figure out, but also ive opened up for a lot of touring acts out if Nashville that use kemper and to me they just dont sound real now days, not that they have gotten worse but that the rest of the modeling world has caught up and surpassed them.

But thats just my opinion... it can sound good and I still use my HX stomp often because its a great multi effects. I'm particularly disappointed that the newer L6 Helix models sound better than the stuff they launched with, amp wise, but they won't admit that and rework the launch stuff. For example the deluxe and twin models are no where near the later Silverface bassman models.
      I'd bet their next platform fixes everything. The most recent models are the best they have every produced.

I agree that the older amp models are lacking but there are so many new ones that are incredible so why even use them? I’m primarily a Fractal user but the Helix stuff is still somehow incredibly underrated and if you can’t get a good sound out of it (not saying you specifically) it says more about you as a player and I do think that’s a massive part of it that no one is brave enough to talk about.

    I don't know if a mini, but I fully expect a non-capturing QC. MAYBE it goes to 6 buttons. Also the whiners about plugin support can shut up... such a stupid thing to cry about.

      It's actually totally reasonable to be pissed about it, because that was, beside the capturing tech, the main selling point of the Quad Cortex to begin with.
      People wanted to have the fidelity of the NDSP plugins in a portable device, because at that time it became apparent that the plugin market became more capable than what modellers had to offer on average.
      I do not own a Quad Cortex, but I have been toying with buying one on day 1 back in 2019 or so, actually based very much on the thought of having Fortin Nameless and NTS integrated into the QC.
      Very glad I did not bite onto the bait.

      @@PippPriss you bought a device as is. Sure you can be frustrated at how long it took, but to cry about new devices coming out is stupid. In between the launch and now was also a global pandemic. As someone who works in software I can tell you that it wrecked a lot of teams productivity.

      @@StupidGuitarthat's all well and fine but it's equally stupid and a bad look for the company to continually troll it's user base by saying things like "soon" in a meme format. We're well past the point of soon. I'm not one of the users who was anticipating plugin support as excitedly but I can completely understand how they may have felt mislead timewise. The way neural made it sound on launch was that all the features they were advertising would be there within a few months to a year. This isn't soon anymore. They need to stop saying that.
