    Drone registration is not required because congress didn't act to make any such law, the FAA invented it out of thin air, and it got smacked down by the courts. Remote I.D. is also voluntary, as there is not such law requiring it, only some bureaucrat made it up. I have dozens of drones and none of them have remote I.D.

    I fly for work here in the U.S. under Part 107, so, I really can't thumb my nose at the Remote ID requirements. That said, I haven't found it to be much of a pain to comply with either. I fly an aircraft with built-in Remote ID capabilities (Skydio), so, the whole thing was pretty painless. That said, I definitely do feel for those who just want to fly for fun in a responsible way as they have for decades now without issue. I think some further refinement to the regulation is in order. The local club I belong to is a FRIA, so, at least we do have access to an approved location without the need for Remote ID. But, I don't think the process should be as lengthy, difficult and as outright exclusive as it is. Before I was Part 107, and prior to Remote ID going into effect, I could walk out into my own back yard and fly without worry...I couldn't do that now without 107. At the very least, I think they need to make it possible and relatively simple for anyone (including individuals just flying for fun) to set up a FRIA at no cost anywhere they have permission to fly. Under Part 107, It only takes me a couple of minutes to get automated FAA clearance to fly in controlled airspace near a major airport. Setting up a personal FRIA in the middle of nowhere should be just as easy.

      Unless you plan to use video from your sub250g drone on a monetized YT channel because *then* you will legally be required to fit RID and fly under part 107 if you're in the USA.

      @GearZenChannel 18 днів тому

      @@xjet Not if the flight was intended as recreational, so there are some exceptions. But all fpv pilots should have spotters, too. Also, most should have ham radio licenses.

      @xjet  18 днів тому +1

      @@GearZenChannel Yep, think of all the lives that would have been saved if all FPV pilots had sat their ham ticket... doesn't bear thinking about (shudder!). 🙂 The monetization thing with the FAA seems pretty arbitrary -- a lot of folk have been forced to get a 107 or face stiff fines for posting "recreational" videos to their monetized YT channels.

    • @GearZenChannel
      @GearZenChannel 18 днів тому

      @@xjet If you have a channel focused on drones, it would be a rough argument. But you could certainly be using stock footage, or be using footage that somebody else shot on their drone. But if it is your livelihood, I guess you need to jump through the hoops with at least a part 107 and registration.

    I think when one country manages to get Remote ID working it will lead to other countries doing it, in the UK this has been discussed for quite a few years and undergoes public consultation, the UK has failed to come up with acceptable agreements, my argument for not having it is that the general public should not be able to track the average Joe flying his drone as it could cause conflicts that should be dealt with by either the police or CAA FAA etc Having the position of a drone could be useful for aircraft in the vicinity as an early warning. I find it a bit irritating that in the UK drones are restricted to up to 400ft, but helicopters and small planes quite often go lower than this when flying, if they stayed at 500ft and only dropped close to airports and dropped vertically for helipads etc the risk of a conflict would be reduced. I do not expect the CAA or the police to act sensibly on this in the UK, so Remote ID may happen and it will probably be a disaster in the first couple of years until changes are made to correct bad decisions :(

    If you're running a model RC club, we all know the traditional side of the hobby has been in massive decline for a long time now. All I see at model clubs are super expensive turbines and IMAC style models. So in that regard the hobby has turned into a 'Jet ski of the sky' type of deal. Super expensive and not for everyone. Hobby Shops are all long gone. So folks, buy a couple of display cabinets and start setting up old engines, magazines and radios. A nice way to remember a great era long gone.

      I've got a couple. The one in this vid is quite old and I bought it from Hobby King (back in the day). It's kevlar and carbon so pretty light -- but I'm still breaking the regulations because there's a heliport within 4Km of this park and I'm throwing it well above the height of nearby trees. Gosh, I hope nobody dies.

    I live in America and I build custom drones. Whether it be racing or heavy with drones . Enforce it any kind of ID or location beacon whatever you want to call It .. can never be done. At least as technology as I know it and currently is available. But regardless I still think it would not be possible. All you need is signal and something to receive it something to transmit it that's all that's all you need.

    The F. A. A. didn't implement an app to identify the drone for the same reason that all the videography/photography was poor quality, in a day and age where my $150 camcorder could have grabbed much clearer images. (Something that my S23 or anyone's phone could have done) There was nothing real to grab in the first place. Either that, or everyone who shot a drone paid $15 at Five Beyond for their cameras.

    Remote ID requirements prevent drone incidents in much the same way license plates prevent car incidents. Which is to say, they don't, but they sure do make for a good way to ensure a revenue stream.

    Its kind of funny. No one really wants to do anything to fight the stupid regs, but ironically that has also led to many people also not wanting to do anything to comply with them either. The non compliance is having the biggest impact. The downside is that the US government hates disobedience and will not stand for it in the end.
    7:00 - technically under the law (at least last I studied it) the government can not charge US residents for use of the NAS. That won't stop them from trying anyway or changing the law though.

      If you check, you'll see that airlines pay for ATC services and you'll find that Network RID will fall under the ATC umbrella, therefore there will be charges involved.

    I sure hope so. It seems completely pointless anyway. I could maybe see a reason for it if Amazon delivery drones were flying all over the place and there was a risk of us hitting them with our drones, but that hasn't happened yet, and doesn't seem like it will anytime in the foreseeable future.

    I'll happily continue to fly my freestyle quads of varying sizes at local parks, my home, and other innocent locations as always in a responsible manner while continuing to fully ignore the nonsense of remote ID. If there was ever a hard requirement to implement such a thing...just buy the lightest, smallest, crappiest remote ID with the worst signal strength and inline it with the GPS module. With such a terrible module, you absolutely won't see that thing on any drone app unless its on top of you, yet you will be 'compliant' on some level.
