    I own a beef farm in NZ and over the last 7/8 years I have spent 20 to 30 minutes flying my FPV drone up to 4 km distance from my house over my farm, 4 to 5 times a week to check on my stock. It saves me two to four hours a day, (and petrol) by not having to drive round the paddocks to physically check on them. Once the drone has been launched, I DO NOT HAVE LINE OF SIGHT of it and I do not have an Observer. Yes, that means I am in breach of NZ CAA regulations. But nobody has been harmed, no property has been damaged, no paint has been scratched, and no animals have been harmed, although a bull head bunted my drone a while back (the drone, an Avata, recovered from the encounter and was not damaged). The Avata is a great drone. CAA needs to bring their regulations into the modern world.
    Keep up your Vids Bruce, I enjoy watching them.

      Stop using dji, or anything RTF. Build or buy your own platform. I design and build my own units. My DIY 250MM size flies for 20 - 30m and you can do crop mapping if you wanted to. I also have 600mm hex design with greater flight time. Anyone could work with me or others, but nobody really cares. RC has become a grift. So sad to see. But I hope I am mistaken. Every day there is a new video of some fool pretending that he/she can be #1 in flying. Rubbish! But nobody really cares. Change my mind...

      CAA will put more regulations so the only way for you to check your animals is by buying drones from companies that sponsored the CAA.

      Flying with UFOs.
      These things know no laws and the government says: "They are just harmless drones."

      Same as the UK... FPV here needs a "spotter" - seems pointless, as every flight should be handled with care and attention BEFORE even taking off. I would like to bet my licensed ass is safer than half the 'under 250g' drone users.

      Yeah, in Australia 🇦🇺 this generation banned ballroom dancing 💃 🕺
      They're sick in the head.
      They upped the price of insurance and used authority to hand out fines.
      Those few who were organising all decided to leave.
      They did the same thing with busking on the city streets.
      Now, years later it's migrants who are doing all the busking and they're playing louder than the regulations permit but nobody's enforcing the regulations.
      They destroyed throwing streamers.
      They killed off confetti 🎊
      They ended throwing rice.
      They stopped the china plates 🍽 being smashed.
      They destroyed whole suburbs and every business in those suburbs.
      They destroyed their own cheap food supply as well.
      It's everyone for themselves and they DID destroy lots of things.

    Bruce, I've been a subscriber for at least 17 years. By complete coincidence, I've met your daughter at a friends BBQ near Wellington. It was fun talking to her about all the epic stuff you've done over the years. You're very loved!
    People like you is what makes NZ fantastic. And great people is the main reason why I moved here a long time ago.
    On a side note, I've contributed code to some open OSDs back in the 2010s. I've seen the same OSDs being used to bomb people in the Ukraine war, 14 years later. All built out of parts sourced in the internet. So far, I had no calls from the government. If bureaucrats weren't so fucking scared to learn something instead of driving a desk, they wouldn't be after people that are trying to make society better. People like you.
    Don't quit UA-cam :) The amount of knowledge and wisdom you've shared will be here for generations!
    I just turned 40 mate, I'm definitely joining your other channel :)

    I had no idea Ron was a full-scale pilot. I am pleased as punch that you're not throwing in the towel. Times are rough in multiple ways but we can always look back to better days.
    Speaking of looking back, "vintage" video has become a genre of sorts here on the UA-cam so perhaps there is room to use the old footage to good effect. Remember that UA-cam began operations in 2005, so you were here uploading content practically from the inception.
    Arguably the world has been in a tailspin for decades, perhaps since the '60s. I don't expect "the kids" to agree but I fully support their right to be wrong. Everyone, including me, starts out believing they were born in the best time and that things will only improve. It's only much later we realize the situation is deteriorating, and begin looking to the past for comfort. That old footage you're sitting on is a gold mine!

    • @xjet
      @xjet  Місяць тому +3

      Thanks for the very kind contribution. Yes, I guess there'd be some mileage in cobbling older footage together so if it ever becomes impossible to fly again I may well do that.

    I've watched you since I was in high school and I am 33 now. I just came to check to see how things were going since it's been a few years since I've been recommended a video and I am glad to see you're still at it. Your videos got me into mini quads years and years ago and just recently I finally jumped all in into fixed wing and RC cars. Life was super crazy for me early on so I never got the chance. Free men just fly. Also I actually ended up working at a part 145 doing overhauls and repairs for a few years and enjoyed every minute of it. We had a Carbon Cub at the shop and I've seen that thing doing crazier shit at the airstrip.
    Appreciate all the fun and help throughout the years.

    The good old day indeed. It's a shame there isn't any footage from Centennial Park in Taupo, where as a 15yr old spectator in 1977 I watched you with the all mighty Ugly Stick doing touch and goes from the top of the soccer posts on the field. Talk about reactions! And the flying wing you made with the two channel Futaba? A.M radio with a third channel spliced in to the TX. So glad I'm still in the hobby here in Hokitika, where the farmers field we fly from is only governed by common sense. Sadly lacking these days but proven by the ZERO incidents/accidents to date.
    Cheers

      Wow, now *THAT* is going back a bit! Those were happy days also and times when there were absolutely ZERO rules -- yet we managed just fine, flying within 4Km of the lake (officially an airfield) and right beside the gliding club (another airfield). Fantastic times, great people and it seemed like endless fun.

    I really miss the flying at the field vids with all the banter with your mates...... its a shame thats no longer.... I wonder what the next 10yrs has in store for the hobby... I personally dont think it will die out but it will go more underground as I dont think the regulators will ease up.... thats the main reason I dont post many flying vids on my YTch... all the best for 25, stay safe and keep the blue side up.

    • @xjet
      @xjet  Місяць тому +1

      Yeah, the hobby won't die, it will simply adapt. Already we're seeing a significant shift towards smaller craft. At one time I would have said _"no regulator would be stupid enough to make rules for a paper airplane"_ but sadly, CAA New Zealand has proved me wrong. I'm more hoping that it'll be a bit like skateboarding which was villified for years after kids started using malls and parks -- then, eventually it was embraced and now there are skateparks all over the place.

    I noticed that the title is phrased as a question, and I hope this and other comments inform you as to how much that we hope that you do not quite making videos. I plan to watch the video a bit later, and I will most likely add another comment after I watched the entire video.
    Thanks again, for all that you have done to date. _John_ ___(-,-)___
    EDIT: I forgot to mention that you give us older folks a lot of inspiration to stay with the hobby as well...

    Ridiculous regulations, back in the day (before quads) you would go to the airfield, fly your plane (you made / assembled or repaired), have your liability insurance and membership up to date, hang your frequency on the board and have a great day with mentors and co pilots of RC, tricking , treating and unfortunately crashing. No one (generally) went home without a great day. Older age and memories are a joy compared to modern times in a over regulated society.

    You're such an inspiration. Articulate, informative and creative. I have never to this day ever stopped thinking about your cruise project that got me pondering something for personal amusement.
    Being autistic and having certain interests, it was a great mind project and highly amusing, inspired by your good self.
    Thank you for your contribution to the world.
    I wish I could have the pleasure and opportunity to learn personally from your experience and knowledge.

    Right behind you Bruce. I too am frustrated that I cant just go and fly my DJI mini 4 Pro in the local park or around my neighbourhood with all these stupid rules. I just did a Video on Christmas day over the Christchurch Sports Stadium which was technically "Illegal" as i didnt ask permission from the CCC cos i knew they would say no. Love your videos and keep up the great work.

    I sort of have quit YT. They manipulated things to where I was not earning anything anymore, so no monetary incentive. I've switched to just making videos when I want to. Anywho it was you who made FPV accessible. Your videos explaining how it all worked are what sparked me to give it a try. I now have a wall full of FPV drones. So thank you for that, I have always appreciated what you put out. Whether you continue or not, you have my eternal gratitude. Keep flying! - evol.

    Regulations killed my fpv hobby many years ago. Now, my racing drones are displayed on the shelf like relics from the past. However, after all these years, I'm still subscribed to your channel. Thanks Bruce, this video brought back a lot of good memories.

    I know it's beyond your control, but I miss the old flying videos. It was the cure for the winter time blues here in the states. I love your witty, sarcastic personality! Please dont ever change! Come visit the good old USA! Ive heard that you can fly anything anywhere in New Jersey these days without consequence...

    👍👍 Bruce!! What a vivid contrast of today's totally unwarranted fear-driven overregulation vs carefree safe fun model flying before rabid rampant paranoia took over the braindead overseers of model flying years ago. I've been subscribed to this channel for so long I can't even remember when I happened upon it, but so glad I did. You and your lighthearted approach to your buddies enjoying flying at Tokoroa used to be so entertaining. It's no wonder that your popular videos spread around the world like wildfire. You sir, are a passionate very good hearted guy. We all appreciate not only what you continue doing for the hobby, but for your intelligence, sense of humor ...and... calling a spade an effing spade. Stay well and keep 'em coming brother! 😁

    Bruce, my oldest video is from 12 years ago... Because before then I was focused more in writing... Long story. But it was another ch, I didn't want to mix things. You know?
    I didn't put any new videos there either... Now I want to get back at it. My PC stopped working just before the pandemonium and the prices got crazy high...
    Either way, I think I'm going to be able to get a new one this year. Before July, I hope, but by then I'm definitely going to be able to.
    About regulations and bureaucrats, they think we don't think, let's put this way. It's not a new phenomenon either, but it's really getting worse!
    Well... I hope it changes in the near future... But I wouldn't hold my breath.
    Anyway, happy new year!
    Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

    HAPPY NEW Y YEAR Bruce !! THANK YOU for all these years of entertainment ❤️ 💕. OH Those were the Day's ! There has been wonderful success reversing Parkinson
    s with a Keto diet, preferably Carnivore diet. The resurch shows that plants and sugar have such an inflammatory effect that the body fights it , but in an inappropriate way. Parkinson ,MS ,altzimers , Diabetes, Cancers. All of which show very quick recovery when your diet is changed. We must have animal fats and proteins to feed our brains. And red meat has the 3 Most Essential minerals and vitamins that which by the way you cannot get ANYWHERE ELSE . No plants or vegs, fruits have these in a form our body can use.

      @xjet  16 днів тому +1

      Yes, key things for me have been diet and exercise. The videos will continue -- just a shame that the local council has effectively made it impossible for me to continue filming people having fun with RC models at the local airfield.

    • @1sheinz
      @1sheinz 16 днів тому

      @xjet yes the council problem is ridiculous. Electing them out of position will be the only recourse. Hopefully that will happen. CHEERS Steve h

      I don't think they'd let me through immigration. Last time I was in the USA (to act as a technical consultant on the Junkyard Megawars TV series back in the very early 2000s) I had to "sneak" into the country. If I ever get my book published, all will be revealed then.
