    Clarification needed...if we can go 95% of lives using floating line with split shot, but sinking tip works better, why shouldn't we all switch to sinking tip? GREAT video as always

    Hi Brian, another great video. One question, when fishing a lake of +15' depth how do I set a strike indicator to cope with this? 74 years old just getting into fly fishing, brilliant learning channel, if you were my school teacher I would now have numerous PHD's. Keep up the good work.

    I love your videos!! I started fly-fishing back when weight forward lines were new. Double taper was the most popular. It is MY understanding that a 4/5 rod works best with a DT4F or a WF5F line. Since no one uses double taper lines, the lower number was dropped by most manufacturers. Double taper lines are heavier after about 30’.

    I just recently got my first sink tip fly line, the airflow streamer max short. I love that line. It shoots my flies like a rocket and the small intermediate section really smoothens the transition. Great episode, thank you.

      What made you go with the max short vs the long? I hope you see this message. I’m wanting to get this line but not sure if I should go with short or long . Appreciate it!

    I had a 5/6 rod for many years and always used 6wt lines on it. It did fine, but recently I put a 5wt line on it and it was like a different rod. I now only use 5 wt on it.

    So would it be ideal to have a separate reel on hand pre spooled with a sinking tip fly line? Rather then swapping out line when changing up from a nymphing or dry flying set up?

    Most people I’ve talked to say not to bother with sink tips (maybe it’s a regional thing - I’m in the driftless) - very interesting to hear your perspective on them. Thanks for sharing

    • @Madriveroutfitters
      @Madriveroutfitters  5 років тому

      We use them MORE than floating lines in general. We hear that alot and it's a pretty old-school way of thinking. Thanks for watching!

      @@Madriveroutfitters Very interesting - it's unfortunate I had the opportunity to get a sinking line at 50% off (store closing sale) and I hesitated bc of what people told me and it was gone the next day. I'll pick one up eventually - thanks again.
