I agree lead free. I use depleted uranium. 😆
Depleted?! U-235 or nothing.
Tungsten beaded flies - split shot just turns my line into a swing set in a tornado 😂
3:41 You can also just use forceps or pliers with a split ring opener, Works pretty well. However you are the professional here so do what you will
I'll be waiting with baited (see what I did there?) breath next Monday morning for your Finger Nails PRO Tips video.
Splitshot is great. It has its place! 6"-20" above or below the fly(s)...
So much wisdom in so few minutes.
Ben has the best thumbnails and well manicured thumb nails. He’s the bomb.
Thank you for the huge feedback Ben!
Thank you. Feelings so hurt! i love you.
You are the hugest bestest flyfisher😊
THAT is an XXXL Shot Show--Nice Ben.
Thank you.
"gudentite!" I didn't know Ben was hip 😃
I loved this. 😂
Reuseable split shot is the jam. If you loop the tippet around the ears it will lock the shot in place as well. And like Ben said, use some forceps to remove it if you want to dry fly fish.
Tungsten bead heads with a Tungsten sliding bead above the top fly. This rig is leader and fish friendly. It is also much easier to cast. With the right fly line (not double taper floating) and the right size/weight beads, it should sink like you have a car battery tied to the end of your line.
Ps:Stay away from triple trouble!
Ok... Hi Ben I'm Ben nice to meet you. It's funny watching myself and how I act
Put tiny split shot on first. Smaller means it bites the leader better. Stack heavier stuff on top
no knot...loop the shot 😎
Thanks for mentioning lead-free options. It’s usually a giant blind spot for anglers and bird hunters.
People who are otherwise excellent stewards of the environment throwing or spraying lead everywhere their prey species lives need to think hard about what they’re doing.
I only use the Loon camoshot so the fish can't see it.
You can also smash the back of the splitshot. If you do it right it should just open itself without any problems. You won't have to use your nail that way.
I use Orvis' titanium putty. Any thoughts on that? I like it because I can add to it or take a bit away to get the right weight.
Goodmorning
"where the fish are.... underwater" hahaha nice.
Hi, as my grandfather use to say “Nothing is fool proof”!
I have really problems with white fish grabbing the split shot. You see a hit set the hook and half the time you fowl hook them with your fly. Switching to tungsten head flies has really reduced the number of fish snagged.
Hey... you doing dry janufebruary or something?
It gets hard to cast my line when I use a split shot, should I use a heavier rod or does it not matter?
Your going to have to explore different casting techniques (forget repeatedly false backcasting) touch and go methods, water anchor loading your rod, single hand spey line is a cheat code, and don't forget a full face helmet and smash the barb😂. It's not going to be pretty
Korkers boots! Lol
I guess this is what journalists call a sink piece
Ah, split shot... something we in CA know all about. I do find that fluro tippet doesn't hold a split shot. It is harder stuff and won't dent when you pinch it on. Mono will dent and will stay where you put it (mostly). To combat the slip, I will sometimes loop the tipped around the split shot when using fluoro (which is all I use when nymphing). That means there's no knot to weaken the tippet, but it will sometimes pop off. So, there ya go. My pro tip.
👍
if you're not running your heaviest streamer on your heaviest sink tip with your biggest split shot and still cant find bottom are you even fishing high flows?
Split shot is just too fiddley for me unless I’m fishing really big water. Many times I just use differing amounts of putty molded onto my tippet ring. And regarding your thoughts on tippet rings: “Me thinks ye doth protest too much”. LOL!
The German word for Brazier is Schtopemfromflappen.
Nein Feuerschale
I shall continue to bite my shot to get my daily dose of lead, thank you very much.
I've never had problem hitting bottom... Giggidy..
I showed up for the beer and the obligatory Tenkara rant; ...so disappointed.
actual Pro tip, put the line in the slit and squeeze it
I’m all for the fingernail video, that should be a hoot…
I refuse to fall for the korkers gimmick
Carry small split ring pliers. Work great at getting split shot to open up again. Understand but completely disagree on korkers. Used them easily 500 + times in over 10 years never lost a sole, own 4 pairs one is 10+ years old two are over two years old one is over 3 years old. That being said the hex sole is horrible. Tightened them before going out, loast all but 3 ofnthe hex studd combine for both feet, the first day i used them. That sole is terrible and is no better than the bars version so get that if you need boat safe soles. That and chuck the stock anti slip sole in the trash or leave at the store. They are so loved that a store in Pulaski NY has a litteral bucket of them for $2-5 a pair because people dont want them. But the boots especially the devils canyon are the absolute bomb. They are all on the heavier side thay is true and i would also argue boots like the orvis pros are better for hiking. That being said I fish so many different kinds of terrain that its worth it for me and i need multiple boots to protect waters from invasives, so I'm not spreading them.
HEEEEYYYYY!!!!!
Hate split shot. Sinking line or sinking leader.
You're up too early. Go back to sleep.
But I had to poop...
And of course..crack open another beer! 😂 @@jeffodabear
The Korkers roast was not appreciated 👍🏼
😴 P R O M O S M
Newsflash: all thumbnails are fingernails.
But not all fingernails are thumbnails...
Just shove your thumb nail in the crack
Don’t be a purist with that dry fly crap. I know you watched a river runs through it a bazillion times, it’s part of your soul now. But really don’t be a purist.
