I have a 2019 Spyder F3L and rode it from Pittsburgh Pa To Florida just outside of Orlando. It was a very good ride. I love my spyder I just about got 10,000 mile on it no problems.
I am new to driving my 2023 Spyder F3 LTD, had her about 3 months and i have put over my first 1009÷ miles, love driving her. Named my Spyder, Christine. Have the cardo pactalk edge for my comm.
Great video. I've watched some of Coach Bob's videos as well. I'm thinking of adding the 2024 Can Am RT Sea-To-Sky to my collection. Thanks for sharing. Ride safe.
I sold my 2018 RT Limited after 12K miles. Two of my strong dislikes were, 1) It required premium gas, 2) you'll only get about 10K miles on the rear tire before having to replace it. And replacing it ain't cheap! A few others, changing oil is a major effort. Replacing the battery requires removing the entire front end of the bike. The Can Am technology is about a decade behind most other touring bikes. While I did enjoy riding it, I now ride a Goldwing with a trike conversion kit.
I caught that too. It costs a lot for electricity to charge those stupid electric cars. He's a city driver. He could never go on a long trip in a electric car. I bet he is a Democrat !
Hi Mike.. I really enjoyed the video. I totally agree with all of your findings and I love the Shoei. I was surprised to hear the shout out. Thanks my friend. I hope to see ya out there on the road.
Hi Mike, thanks for the review. I too watch Coach Bob and enjoy his videos and reviews. I am glad you give a balanced opinion of the positives and negatives of owning the Spyder. Thank you from UK Mike. 👍
Well Nancy, we've had ours for one month now with near 300 mi on and I'm feeling the same about the items you've noted here. I think we have the same color, too. It's my first bike ever, so I'm thrilled to be out. The wife wants a ride every night! They could improve some of these features, but I like it! Thanks for the report. Happy riding!
I picked up my 2022 Sea-to-Sky last May and I enjoyed riding it so much that I ended up doing twice the mileage I had anticipated in this my first ever riding season (I have never owned a motorcycle before). I can't wait for spring to arrive to get it out of winter storage and go riding again. Cheers ScooterMike!
I have a 22 RTL and I love it. This is my second spyder, I had a 2011, and she was getting 130 to 135 miles per tank. I currently have the same amount of miles on mine, but they say after 3000 miles you’ll see an increase in mpg and fuel range. But they are very nice on long trips.
Thanks for the review, I have the same model and color in a 2021. I never tried the BRP app based on what I read, but I did experience most of what you detailed in the video. One thing I do believe will change with your is your opinion on short riding. Considering the storage the bike has and the ease of getting it out of the garage with reverse, my Spyder RTL has become my errand vehicle. I run to the grocery store, the hardware store etc. If I can carry it on the Spyder, the truck or car stays home and I am three wheeling. I know from following others, this is pretty normal. Enjoy.
Hello Mike, just passed a 1000 miles on my F3-T. Enjoy riding mine too. The rear suspension was missing the valve when I bought it and had to go two weeks without it a month after buying it, but it’s fixed and I’m loving it. Take care
@ScooterMike.TheCharterPilot When you turn your Ignition on just hit the button to clear the information before it appears...something of a quick bypass
I have a 2020 RT LTD which I brought for two up touring with my wife. Looking at your video, the road surfaces you ride on look so much better than here in Australia. If the road surface is pot holed and in poor condition it can be a little intimidating to those new to riding a Spyder. After 15,000 kilometres I’m a lot more relaxed and enjoy riding the Spyder. Thanks for the video 👍
Very nice review Mike 👍. I've owned my 2020 RTL for 2 and a half years. The Spyder will be my forever touring bike, for long distance riding in comfort, it is a superior machine. I also had low fuel economy, below 30 mpg, for the first couple tanks, but it has settled into about 35 mpg for rural country highway riding. It drops a couple of mpg for higher speed Interstate highways, and down to about 30 mpg when towing my camper, I can't complain. I too own a PHEV car and enjoy going weeks and weeks between gas fillups. I gave up on BRP Connect in the first month of ownership. My phone and my Zumo XT GPS connected directly to my Cardo is the flawless way to go. Yeah the more tech on a bike, the more hiccups one might get. I've had a few myself, but my dealer has been good to me. Coach Bob is one of my favorite channels and he is the reason I own a Spyder. There's one more thing you won't like about the Spyder, the frequency and cost of replacing the rear tire, but the Soyder is still a dream machine. Again, a very nice review Sir 👊😎👍
Thanks for the heads up about the tire.... yea the RT has some issues but I love getting the thing out on a ride... rode it today in a light rain... i barely got wet at all!
Yep, $327 dollars for the rear tyre in Melbourne Australia and $108 to fit it. The tyre had only done 15,000 kilometres. Ownership is not cheap but it’s certainly made two up touring a lot easier and more comfortable.
I totally agree with your points. I wish my wife would ride with me but she does not. She is not a "Motorcycle" gal. Me personally, I absolutely HATE the Can-Am CLUNK! I was having balance issues on my Burgman 650 so I am wise enough to nip that in the bud before it became a major problem. I love it more and more each time I ride it. It corners like it's on rails. Great vis sir.
I want to personally say congratulations on your new purchase ✨️ 😀 I don't have one yet but I'm working towards it. I also want to commend you for mentioning CB3 Coach Bob and Coach Vic. In my search on youtube to see Spyder/Ryker videos I initially came across their videos. I was hooked immediately 😂 I wish you many great years of riding your Can-Am RT SEA TO SKY. 😁
First, let me say I ride a 2020 RTLtd. Coach Bob is a terrific guy as is wife Vicki. As for two up on trips, wife Millie and I took a long ride to Sevierville TN from central Florida in 2022 for a week and packed everything we needed on that machine. Like you. and many others, BRP Connect is awful but BRP stays with it, and so, nothing is perfect, so I live with it. I do not see BRP improving on this. For navigation, for it is totally useless, I use my iPhone. Please don't misunderstand, I love this machine in spite of a few undesirables. The suspension is so smooth, so many other things I could mention, but no need to take up a lot of space, ya just gotta ride it.
Hi Mike. I have a 2019 RTL. It took me several 1000 miles to become one with the machine. Yes, it’s a long distance cruiser and once You’re dialed in very few hooligans can keep up with you through the curves and twisties. I ride an average 100-150 miles per day in the mountains and canyons that start about 6 minutes from my house. I’ve been caught in a squall on the Mountains outside Jackson Hole a a derecho in Colorado. I wouldn’t be here to tell the story if I’d been on 2 or a 2 in back one in front. Bottomline, you’ll forget all about the minutia as you expand your skills. Like a scratch in the stainless sink. Stick with this. Practice specific techniques on every ride. For example; I’ll ride for two hours and never repeat the same steering technique in turns, curves, and twisties. Oh, btw, your gas mileage is way off. I weigh almost 260, drive it like I stole it and get 34-38 MPG consistently.
Sounds good... Yes, there is a muscle memory learning curve.. that I already see improving over time. Its different than a 2 wheel machine... but I sure am enjoying it! Im jealous of the rides that you get to do regulary!
@@scootermike.thecharterpilot Keep at it. Whatever issues you’re having is probably more you than a machine limitation. Trade off diving it like a motorcycle and driving it like a go kart. Riding it is the only guarantee I have for experiencing joy.
I have a 2022 and I like it , I use to be a gold wing guy , until I injured my knee , my knee is better, but I don’t feel confident enough to have a passenger. My wife still wants to ride so that’s why I decided to go with the RT it is comfortable I like to ride, but as you stated, the gas mileage is horrible and I don’t like, the audio system, I wish they could make some upgrades to the system. I do like to accessorize my bikes. At this point I’m a little cautious about adding aftermarket accessories on this bike. I hear horror stories of the system, not liking the upgrades and shutting down but I’m still really new to this bike only have about 130 miles on it. I do wish they would upgrade the audio system to be more Apple compatible
I have a 2018 Spyder RT L that I bought recently. I like it but it seems like some of the electronic systems were designed to meet the requirements of a Can Am lawyer rather than an engineer. The safety card acknowledgement is one example. Another is how the bike goes into limp mode to punish you for minor infractions. The first day I had it I was hovering over the brake pedal while the throttle was slightly open. It went into limp mode.
I was thinking of getting one, but the horrible mpg and the premium fuel requirements killed that idea. My car gets better mpg, costs less to operate and is less troublesome. I'm an older guy and was looking for a trike because of my balance issues. However, from the videos I have seen and talking to people that own the Can Am's, I will have to pass. Hope you keeping enjoying yours!
I use regular and seems to run just fine get about 22.5 mpg Almost three times MPG compared to my truck . Has a real reverse compared to Harley which uses 1930 tech with a starter motor
I know that I must give up motorcycling due to equilibrium issues. I am 73. FJR is for sale, new 22RTL is in the garage. I agree that this bike lacks Honda-like fit and finish. Compare to the Gold Wing. Cost is the same. Can Am is crude in comparison. I'll know more, of course, after we have traveled on it more.
my start up procedure is key on mode brake start... it's burnt into my brain. MPG will get better, i'm getting 34-39, not the greatest but fair for the size of the machine and weight turning 3 wheels and not 2.... awesome video
Keep your head on a swivel my friend. 😉 I have a 2021 F-3S and love it. Just broke the 3000 mile mark at the end of last season. Guess it’s time for a oil change.😳
I have a 2018 f3 and have gotten 45 mpg but average around 35-40 avg. Second I agree with you on the maintenance. I live in the east and don[t like the fact that there are no or few dealers and they will not work on the off season (Winter) months. That's not very customer friendly. I do enjoy the bike in most other respects.
Firstly thanks for the video, we don’t get to see spyders very much here in the UK, they are about but not as popular due to our road sizes! Good to see you are enjoying it. Interesting about the gas mileage, that surprised me….my Harley gets around 50mpg, my KTM 65mpg. Couldn’t imagine coping with that! Also your Bluetooth issues I can sympathise with, I have similar issues on my KTM. Frustrating. I’ve spoken about it and other KTM ‘niggjes’ in my most recent video. Ride safe brother!
I agree with you! I have the original Sea To Sky RT Ltd. BRP Connect is terrible. Honda put Apple Car Play on the Goldwing - why did they not that do that on the Spyder. I do not mind the mileage but I do hate the tiny fuel tank. For a full on tourer, I would expect to be able to cover 30% more distance. I use the Sena SRL Mesh in my Shoei Neotec II.
Nice video! Don’t use eco mode. It does not increase your mpg and it lugs your engine. Compare your used oil using eco mode vs used oil not. You will be surprised how more dirty it is & it’s gas smell. I have a ‘22 RTL and I previously road 2 wheels. I’d like brp to replace brp go with a large screen with a built in Garmin gps. Many brands use other brands of gps systems & they are lousy. Apple car play would be ok. Id like power central locking. Button on Spyder would be ok. I don’t need keyless ignition. I’d like integrated tps. I like their transmission but I think a full DCT transmission like the Goldwing would attract more riders. Fuel mileage does not bother me but I’d like to easily have a 200 miles highway range @ 60mph for remote trips. To drastically raise the mileage they would need a larger engine (or cut weight). Our engine is not large compared to its weight. Maybe you should consider a Zero Motorcycle. They have an excellent electric bike. I think a manual parking brake would be more reliable. I’d like a sport mode (owner’s manual mistakenly states that we have it). You can’t enjoy the ride & it’s stability and then complain about how much space it takes. It’s not going to collapse for storage. Overall I’m pleased with my Spyder. I use a Garmin Zumo XT.
I agree with you about fit and finish. Just a note check for TSB’s. I dealer will not repair TSB’s after warranty for free. I would like to know what you are using for a camera. Just a not I have two one for me and one for the wife. She rides more than me.
I am using 2 go pro hero 8's ... I am reallu new to the new to youtube... im trying to learn as much as i can but learning to edit is very time consuming!
Your problems with telephone/motorcycle/helmet interface is not a Can Am issue nor correctly criticized. If one has their helmet synced with their phone AND Can Am, it will get confused. This issue applies to all motorcycles. To make these systems work, have your helmet synced with only the motorcycle and your phone synced only to the bike and all works great
I just turned down a 2023 full dress model for several reasons. I was not impressed with the dealership and their lack of enthusiasm for the Spyder. They seem to like to try to sell quad side by side machines that are not all even road legal. They have only 2 spyders here in Feb of 2024 and not one 2024 model. I also could not test drive one because of insurance problems (they said). I could if I bought it! Another reason is that they claim to have sold a bunch of them here in Tucson but, I haven't seen a one on the road yet! Nice looking machines and I really thought I wanted one. Not so sure now.
Just so you know I have a spider as well soon as you engage the key you don't have to wait for the safety information just hit that button and it'll start
Take the hit and hope for the best ;-) Just frustrating…not a game changer but good to know when it comes to wide three wheelers. Yamaha Niken and Piaggio MP3 need not subscribe to this annoyance!
Did not buy the MP3 nor Nikken. MP3 is Italian made and that’s out my comfort zone (after sale service in my area) and the Nikken is toooo much money. The Yamaha TMax 530, the NC750x DCT and 2 Navis fit our riding requirements. HTH
On the gas usage. you find that is not really frugal on gas but you come from a EV or hybrid mindset where I come from a Turbocharged WRX from my point of view the RT is a gas miser. LOL PS I get horrible gas milage
Harley Davidson Tri Glide will absolutely wear you out! If you drive it all day, your shoulders will be very sore. Watch videos of rides and notice how the rider is constantly fighting the handlebars, and it's the reason they put a dampener on the front end to help that. Also check out Tri Glide wreck videos. You most likely won't have that problem with the Spyder.
When these first came out I thought "Wheels on a snow machine, looks like fun!" I would like to hear from someone familiar with the trikes with two wheels in back compared to a Spyder. I would think a Spyder would be more confidence inspiring on a twisty downhill section.
I have never been on spyder (yet) but I had a bike with 2 wheels in the back. My complaint was, if you make a hard stop in a curve ,one wheel will come off the ground, that is very scary if you have to make a panic stop on a turn, I don"t believe that would be a problem with a spyder.
I'd like to move to your part of the country because where I live, we have to pay for electricity, no matter what I'm charging whether it be my phone or my ELECTRIC CAR.
04:15 It costs you a lot to drive your electric cars. You are ignoring the fact that you have to use a LOT of electricity to charge the cars batteries. Most of the electricity comes from power plants that use coal, natural gas and diesel to run. Most likely they put out more greenhouse gases in a week than a gas powered car would in a year. You are not as carbon friendly as you like to think you are.
You pay to drive your electric car when you buy it and when the battery expires you’ll pay again. Hybrids are the way for now in my uneducated opinion.
Yeah glad I went with the Goldwing. They wouldn't let me test ride it. Who buys 30 grand worth of product without a test ride. They let me Test ride a Goldwing and I bought it.
The Spyder may be more of a touring machine than my Harley Tri-Glide, but the fuel mlieage sucks.By the way the Spyder is NOT a bike. Bi means two as in two wheels. Tri means three as in three wheels. It is however still a motocycle, just a trike instead of a bike.
@@imapiledriver2462 My point is a teo wheeled vehicle is a BI and a three wheeled vehicle is a TRI. I learned this in grade school. I've been riding MOTORCYLCES since 1964, I think I know the difference between a biccyle and a motorcycle.
Confusion....It's not a car. It's not a bike......????? But then again from a person who drives an electric and had hybrid cars......No hope but I suppose someone has to be a sucker !
Man you should get with a club or at least go to rallys! Premium gas so what it's a hot rod. All the sniveling you have done has been over come. Just costs $ Up grade supension, screen, exhaust, gps. You just don't know. So go get on a 2 whlr. Mine works fine , go join a group and get educated than a superor ryde.
Its a Trike, here in California its considered a motorcycle! Only thing it can't do is split lanes. I have a 2017 daytona spyder F3 and my 2 wheeled motorcycles are a ZX14R and a Hayabusa. In our group rides we have a couple of harley trikes show up and a few other can am's. It's not a car either and it doesn't have a seat belt so until you try it don't knock it.
@@domfer2540 Exactly brother, when you see a person on a 3 wheeler never assume he never rode 2 wheels. I have buddies that have arthritis in their hands and can't ride 2 wheel motorcycles anymore. Luckily Honda and other manufacturers are producing automatic motorcycles where you just twist and go. They have sport and cruise modes so you can choose how aggressive you want to ride.
@@rocket3man371and what do they call the Morgan 3 wheeler in California? A car lol. These are great for people with disabilities, but more often serve the lazy and obese... They handle nothing like a motorcycle.

I'm thinking of getting a Mazda MX5 soft top. Literally the same price as a new Spyder.😮
my start up procedure is key on mode brake start... it's burnt into my brain. MPG will get better, i'm getting 34-39, not the greatest but fair for the size of the machine and weight turning 3 wheels and not 2.... awesome video
yea... its getting better already just need some can am muscle memory
Keep your head on a swivel my friend. 😉 I have a 2021 F-3S and love it. Just broke the 3000 mile mark at the end of last season. Guess it’s time for a oil change.😳
Right on!
Hey great informative video thinking about purchasing one also don't know if you realized that your power cord is chafing your dash.
Where do you get free electricity to charge your car?
Firstly thanks for the video, we don’t get to see spyders very much here in the UK, they are about but not as popular due to our road sizes! Good to see you are enjoying it. Interesting about the gas mileage, that surprised me….my Harley gets around 50mpg, my KTM 65mpg. Couldn’t imagine coping with that! Also your Bluetooth issues I can sympathise with, I have similar issues on my KTM. Frustrating. I’ve spoken about it and other KTM ‘niggjes’ in my most recent video. Ride safe brother!
i didnt know the harley... did that well.... Ive been looking at used Harlys lately... I think one might be in my future
I use a Garmin Zumo XT.
i agree with all your points.... Thanks for the advice... I'll take it out of ECo mode!
I am reallu new to the new to youtube... im trying to learn as much as i can but learning to edit is very time consuming!
i just added the added the 2nd camera recently
oops sorry... on the helmet is a hero... the handle bar is a gopro max... i actually like the 8 better
I am not a bike rider , but I like the spiders. Interesting look.
Nice houses ....where is this place ?
Great review - new subscriber here who is Spyder curious - in things you like, how do you like having a bike with reverse gear? #ridesafe
Your problems with telephone/motorcycle/helmet interface is not a Can Am issue nor correctly criticized. If one has their helmet synced with their phone AND Can Am, it will get confused. This issue applies to all motorcycles. To make these systems work, have your helmet synced with only the motorcycle and your phone synced only to the bike and all works great
Thank you!! Ill try that!
Mike one of your videos has a verify your age restriction and uis asking for personal details - did you let the Spyder go?
I started using marvel mystery oil in my Spyder went from twenty nine miles per gallon , two thirty five.
Just so you know I have a spider as well soon as you engage the key you don't have to wait for the safety information just hit that button and it'll start
thanks for the tip
GAs mileage is pretty good for a three wheeler and you can use regular gas if you wish.
Things not to like: you can not miss potholes on the road. 😢
So what do you do? Put the pothole on the back tire I guess??
Take the hit and hope for the best ;-) Just frustrating…not a game changer but good to know when it comes to wide three wheelers. Yamaha Niken and Piaggio MP3 need not subscribe to this annoyance!
how is the MP3... I was interested in it... a couple of years ago
Did not buy the MP3 nor Nikken. MP3 is Italian made and that’s out my comfort zone (after sale service in my area) and the Nikken is toooo much money. The Yamaha TMax 530, the NC750x DCT and 2 Navis fit our riding requirements. HTH
How do you carry to go pizzas?
I wonder if your Honda, Suzuki or Kawasaki have the systems that you have issues with?
On the gas usage. you find that is not really frugal on gas but you come from a EV or hybrid mindset
where I come from a Turbocharged WRX from my point of view the RT is a gas miser. LOL PS I get horrible gas milage
Yea.. i just need to get use to it and accept it...cause it sure is a fun machine
Hi, any more issues with it? It's not costing you anything to drive your electric car? Who's paying your electric bill?!
So why do you prefer the CanAm to the Harley Davidson trike ? I’m looking at both….
THE PROBLEM IS THE SERVICE IS TERRIBLE..AND SLOW...ONCE THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY...HELL TRAIN..ASWELL NO BUILT IN GPS...AND OVERPRICED. 😊😊😊
Tricycle not bike?
The Spyder may be more of a touring machine than my Harley Tri-Glide, but the fuel mlieage sucks.By the way the Spyder is NOT a bike. Bi means two as in two wheels. Tri means three as in three wheels. It is however still a motocycle, just a trike instead of a bike.
@@imapiledriver2462 My point is a teo wheeled vehicle is a BI and a three wheeled vehicle is a TRI. I learned this in grade school. I've been riding MOTORCYLCES since 1964, I think I know the difference between a biccyle and a motorcycle.
You keep calling it a bike, but a bike only has 2 wheels. But they do look like fun.
The insurance companies and the DMV classify the cam-ams as motorcycles which are Bikes
Confusion....It's not a car. It's not a bike......????? But then again from a person who drives an electric and had hybrid cars......No hope but I suppose someone has to be a sucker !
I've always assumed they're for people with disabilities.
It’s a Bike
Man you should get with a club or at least go to rallys! Premium gas so what it's a hot rod. All the sniveling you have done has been over come. Just costs $ Up grade supension, screen, exhaust, gps. You just don't know. So go get on a 2 whlr. Mine works fine , go join a group and get educated than a superor ryde.
It's not a bike... 2 WHEELS NOT THREE
Its a Trike, here in California its considered a motorcycle! Only thing it can't do is split lanes. I have a 2017 daytona spyder F3 and my 2 wheeled motorcycles are a ZX14R and a Hayabusa. In our group rides we have a couple of harley trikes show up and a few other can am's. It's not a car either and it doesn't have a seat belt so until you try it don't knock it.
wow really LOL
I hope you are always able to ride two wheels. I always said I would not three wheels, but due to service disabilities, I enjoy riding three wheels.
Why do you keep calling it a bike?
ughh relax
Why do you ask annoying questions that are of no importance?
IT'S NOT A BIKE !!!! by the definition, a bike is a two wheeled vehicle.
It's a TRIKE... not a BIKE. A Bike has two wheels...
kill the music!
Please don't say "bike". It's a TRIKE.
These things are for people who dont how to ride a real motorcycle.
spent over half the video complaining. Buh bye...
If you’re not man enough for a real motorcycle, I guess the Spyder is ok.
❤SPYDER
Why don't you just get you a Honda trike if you didn't have no problems with the Honda
