A movie I highly recommend: The Gospel According to Matthew (starring a very animated and engaging acting performance by Bruce Marchiano, who plays Jesus). This is a word-for-word adaptation that has a unique take on the body language and charisma of Jesus, and also makes it easier to understand and quicker to read the story. I am hopeful that this movie gives you peace, love, hope, security, comfort, and answers, as it did me, and continues to do to this day. God bless you.

For a 10 year old, Ferb has an incredible amount of control over his emotions
I always liked it when Ferb spoke. It's like a highlight in the show.
He basically gives the punchline to the entire episode.

I agree that fewer, better selected words hold more impact than just spurting out whatever comes to mind but that only truly works if what you have to say actually has value. Im just saying that speaking less doesnt make your words more special but carefully choosing your words, rather than just impulsively saying whatever comes to mind can make a difference.

i can relate to Ferb a lot and i’m glad he was a representation for the quiet kids that were always criticized by family for being too quiet. Also reminds me of Ice bear from we bare bears and that’s why i love these characters so much.

Jesus came to save us sinners. He was crucified, buried and then rose again on the third day. Now when we believe in Him we have eternal life and forgiveness of sins. Repent (turn away from your sins) God loves you!
@Angela if your church is preaching about Jesus they’re doing the right thing. Only He saves, return to Him, don’t be a Christian just for religion follow Jesus Himself. Jesus heals He is God and our Saviour. There’s nothing He can not do so of course they would point you to Him. He loves you and is the only way to be saved, don’t be fooled by what the world follows and calls “good.”

Also consider Ferb losing his mother probably contributed to his character being this way.
(Phineas and Ferb are step brothers, with their dad being Ferbs biological dad, Ferbs mom either died or simply got divorced)
What about candice?
Since she’s the oldest I would have thought that since she was so close to the mum in the show that it was her actual biological mother.

I actually envy Ferb, he embodies the control over oneself I wish I had. If I ever meet a stoic, I would personally ask them any for advice they would give me, and be the best version of myself I've always envisioned.
You're already going the wrong way when you envy him. If you're not like ferb, that's okay. That is the mindset that can get you feeling content instead of constantly in a negative emotion. I know it's kind of a paradox to react like ferb to your emotions about not being like ferb but i think you get the point.

I have set my goals so high and so far into the future that anything that goes wrong day to day doesn't bother me too much. I know that my goal still hasn't been met, and that it still can be met. As for self-control though, I've never had a huge problem with it, but if this decision affects the outcome of a relationship with another person, just know that you might need them in the future. If you believe in a God then they are primary, and if not, then your plans are, and anything that affects them should be given a piece of your mind. Assess what you are risking with the decision, and if it is negligible enough to come back from then go for it. Everything in life is a balance, man. Take care.

That line really got to me. I never knew it was a truly good virtue.
I always love characters who don't talk much (or at all). You can't help but think, "What do they have going on?" I guess it's natural to be interested in something that's difficult to find out. 🔎🔒👁

In the German DUB, they gave Ferb a really deep, adult voice. I think that this is a nice thing to add, it brings out the stoicism.

Being a quiet person growing up is difficult. Glad that Phineas and Ferb was made, they showed to society that being quiet is not boring it is cool sometimes.
Since I see a ton of people who think Stoics have no emotions, I just wanna mention that awareness preceeds control. We all have emotions and suppressing them will only ever make them worse. Facing your emotions, feeling and observing them as close as possible is the key to a peaceful life in my experience.
Just sit and breathe while observing how you feel. This helps keep me from lashing out like I would when I was young(Anger issues).
I like how Ferb isn’t the most outgoing character but he isn’t negative or pessimistic either. Just because someone doesn’t talk much doesn’t mean, they’re depressed or a Debbie downer. Ferb knows how to make a bad situation, a great one with his resourceful and creative mind. And he rarely gets mad or angry over things that *would* pissed off a normal person. Like seriously, Ferb never got mad in the show that’s pretty amazing actually
well he was pissed off at Phineas in "Ready for the Bettys" where Phineas kept commending him for OWCA's gadget and ignoring Ferb's denial. At the end of the episode he angrily said "I give up".

And yet he expresses a stoic kind of frustration: he knows he is angry at the moment, so he disappears from scene sight and goes to a place to "cool off" a bit, then comes back. No hard feelings, no resentment towards his brother and back to his natural self. Stoicism isn't being emotionless, it is the one's ability to not make a scene at the first adversity. If anything, he has more self-control than an adult
Wow. I knew Ferb was a valuable archetype but I didn’t realize he was such a philosophical powerhouse.

I liked watching Phineas and Ferb as a kid, and I have to admit, Ferb was my favorite character on the show. He was like me in a few ways. Even though he doesn't talk much, no one really underestimates him, and he knows how to keep his emotions under control. I sure wish there were more people who thought and acted like him.
You know now looking back Ferb was always that calm reserved character who seem to do him and not let anyone judge him. He's a team worker and helps out others and be there for others.

I like to envision myself sailing in a sturdy boat, my sights set on a distant island. It's not just a physical journey; it represents my pursuit of a goal or dream. If I allow myself to succumb to laziness or sleep, the relentless ocean currents may steer me off course, pulling me away from my intended destination. Therefore, it becomes imperative for me to remain vigilant and in control, constantly adjusting my course and reorienting myself towards that coveted island. I understand that maintaining focus and making consistent corrections are essential to keep progressing towards my objective, never losing sight of the ultimate destination.
My family and friends have called me stoic for as long as I remember and I haven't TRULY understood what they meant until now, I always thought that it was just that I dont show any emotion and that im quiet, thinking I was weird. I now understand that being stoic means a lot more and is a good thing, thank you

Being quiet is pretty nice, you can listen to people, hear them out, see what kind of person they are.
I've always observed people ever since middle school cuz my mind is rich in imaginations. Like just thinking of how something feels makes me feel it for real. But when you have a difficult time.. yeah those suck really. I hope I will be able to master my mind and control it!

Being quiet or an introvert is underrated. I find that loud people often have a hard time listening to what others have to say.
Ikr. I do this a lot. I act like im just not listening and doing my work but I actually like to listen to peoples conversations and see how they act. Its really interesting for me at least
I am really grateful for my rich imagination. I like the way my brain works even though sometimes I don't feel as smart as others. Like being intelligent in a different way.

Yo thank you so much for this man. I'm autistic and I have emotions, but expressing them is genuinely exhausting. It's better for my mental health to acknowledge that stuff is happening to me, but not make a huge reaction to it if it's beyond my control. I really relate to Ferb's deadpan sense of humour. It's not about not having emotions, it's about how you deal with them. Different people deal differently, it doesn't make us monsters.
Tbh Ferb is one of the coolest cartoon characters just out of how well manages to react in stressful situations, a true stoic.
2:20 i would say Phineas is reacting. Ferb made an observation: while Isabella is "over-reacting". also, whether intentionally or not, the 3 of them make up the Id, Ego, and Super-ego.... i think

So yes, in this analogy Isabella is the Id (reacting with an extreme, negative emotional response), Ferb is the super-ego (reacting with an emotionally void or neutral observation of reality) and Phineas is the ego (with a mix of both elements)
I’m glad you were able to look deeper into ferb’s character and make a connection with stoicism that helped me better understand and have more imagery on being a stoic keep up the good work

The funny thing is that i unconciously became stoic as a way to get out of my depression and huge amounts of trauma & stress. I didnt even know stoicism was a thing til I finally, a few years later, had philosophy in school with a really great teacher.

Ferb reminds me of my friend, im a loud annoying textbook extrovert, but he's pretty quiet, he makes me feel more comfortable to be quiet and not try to fill up rooms with conversation, when he says something he thinks a lot about it before he says it, whether it's a good joke or a interesting thought, he takes in a lot of things before he speaks about it, observing, he's a really cool dude and I'm glad he has the patience to be my best friend :)
I think one of the greatest lessons that stoicism teaches us is not to shut away our emotions, but to not let our emotions and our judgements about the situations we face take control. To keep our composure and to strengthen our minds. To be ourselves, to not bend towards what others perceive. To not let hatred or mockery discourage us from what we drive for.

Stoicism vs Optimism:
Optimism is like saying “The world is perfect!”
Stoicism is like saying “The world isn’t perfect, but we can fix it!”
Basic analogy, but it’s similar to that. (1:00)
Edit of 8/13/2021: I think I get the definition now, I wanted to not edit it because literally every comment describes the mistake, so just read below for the *actual* definition.

@@jasoneel76 They both definitely seem optimistic, but what I can say is that Stoicism is similar to optimism, but it notices all the flaws and mistakes in something.
This may be incorrect, of course.
The first statement "The world is perfect!" is ignorance which follows the POV of Ignorance is bliss
Your second statement "The world isn't perfect, but we can fix it!" is optimism at it's core. you can notice flaws and still be optimistic, bc that's what optimism is
Stoism is more like "The world is imperfect and that's okay." in which the issue/flaw is noticeable but there's no immediate need to fix it or change it in some way

i also really like how he can go episodes without speaking like when I would watch the marathons on Disney xd when he DID speak it was a shock to all of us and I just think that that's super effective in storytelling
I remember how my peers made me talk to people, but I didn't want to, since I'm socially anxious and very paranoid, and said I have to get out and interact more, and that my habit of staying alone all day is bad for me, and daydreaming 24/7 as well.
Truth is those habits are actually very comforting for me, and help me understand my surroundings better. I can comprehend things better, and be at peace. Sure, too much isolation is bad, but I talk to my friends on the internet, bc I get terrified when I'm in public.
