I started waxing my coated black car in the fall because of the water spot that appear due to cooler weather. I've found that I don't have 24hrs for a maintenance coat to fuller cure before dew forms overnight. Wax doesn't really have a cure time thus moisture from the cooler notes don't leave those annoying spots.
Ceramic coating will last years. So a year after you put ceramic you can clean the surface/cay it and add a carnauba wax if you like that warm glow. Hi Kyle. Just want to help by giving you my method. I'm in the UK and coatings get a real battering over the winter period from road-gritting. We have all sorts of sand, minerals, salt, dirt and grease that can really affect a ceramic coating's performance, especially around the front-end, lower panels, and fenders. I basically, start with a TFR soak and rinse to remove superficial layers of muck. Then it's onto a snowfoam soak for 5-10 minutes and then rinse. Next is a contact wash-and-rinse with PH nuetral to slightly alkaline (no more than pH 10) shampoo to remove that final film of grime and grease. Sometimes, that can be enough to revive the coating, but not always. So, while the vehicle is still wet after rinsing I'll apply a fallout remover and tar remover to the front end, doors, and arches and let it dwell until it reacts. You can use a very damp mitt to spread the solutions around the panel if you wish. Rinse off thoroughly. If the coating is still inactive in part or whole, I'll finally go over the problem areas with a mild or regular clay and lubricant in order to remove any clogging in the pores of the coating. Usually, these steps would properly reinvigorate a coating. If the coating is still failing then I'd redo the shampoo and decon stage and assess. If it is still dead then I'd surmise that the coating has probably failed in inactive areas.
Even using that, it still affects the properties of the coating. The wax will make the car temporarily glossier and slicker, but it will clog the coating and make it loose it self cleaning properties over time.
@@SpartanKyuubi Gyeon has recommended adding a layer of wax on fresh ceramic coatings to help avoid water spots before the coating is fully cured for years. I doubt they would say that if you were immediately clogging the coating.

Great video! What is your take on the Turtle Wax hybrid solutions ceramic spray? I’ve been using it for just over a year on my wife’s jeep and I really like it. I like how you can use it over everything, plastic/glass/paint, but is it as good as dedicated ceramic coating? Again love the videos, keep up the great work 👍
I use the same TW ceramic spray product. Brilliant value for about £13.00 for 450ml. The gloss and hydrophobic reaction of TW is very similar to a coating, but the dedicated coating is thicker, more durable, and lasts from a year to nine years, depending on what you go for. Here in the UK, I find I have to reapply the ceramic spray every time I wash the car. For dedicate coatings I use Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light, and Carpro CQuartz.UK V.03.
Should you 1.use compound wax, than 2.wax and then use the spray Nu finish the better than wax ceramic coating or do you put the new finish on before the wax and do not use the canoeba wax at all
I understand that once you apply wax on top of your ceramic, you lose the beading properies of ceramic. But isn't the point of beading to remove water from your panels fast so it doesn't sit and cause damage to your panels? If I have ceramic coating already and the wax is not beading the water as much, what is the harm? The panels are coating with ceramic underneath anyway....I was thinking of wax to add that gloss and warmth and yet function as a sacrificial layer for subsequent car washes...
👋 hello . Just got a brand new x5.. trying to do ceramic coating .. do u still recommend Maxshine Graphene Ceramic and can I use it on the wheels ? Or any other one . Thank u so much
Its like a rabbit hole. You ceramic coat to protect clear coat. You put wax to protect ceramic. You put ceramic in the first to reduce cleaning. People have other things to do and not just simply do this coating. Just ceramic coat the car and regular maintenance should last you more than 3 years. Then you another ceramic coating if needed. No more than this.
Great vid! Here in the UK, I usually apply a graphene or Carnuba infused wax then a layer of the Turtle Wax Hybrid solutions Ceramic spray coating. Am i just making extra work for myself? Should I apply the wax after the ceramic coating instead of before?

What coating do you use on Tesla’s? I just got a Model 3 with PPF on the front clip and I plan on maintaining it with TEC 582. What about coating the roof? Just wondering what you do. I just gave it a wash and protected it with the TEC 582 for now until spring and the weather breaks here. Thanks for another great video love your content!
Hi Josh, if i recently washed my car and applied butter wet wax from chemical guys as i had it laying around, i wanted to know if i can still use the technicians choice tec582 as a quick detailer on top of it?
Do you have recommendations for diluting Tec582 for various applications, ex. exterior/interior, etc. or do you simply use it full strength for everything?
Hey Josh. I've been watching your video hoping it would resolve an issue I've been trying to fix ever since I got my sports car in 2017. The issue I'm trying to resolve has to do not with actual hard water spots, but just dirty water stains that I get after a rainfall. I want to start by letting you know I already have a coating on my car (Optimum Gloss-Caot) but it doesn't prevent this problem. Here's a little scenario: I just washed my car. Then a few hours later it starts raining but just a bit. Then the rain stops. Because of the coating I get beads right? So when they end up drying they create dirty water stains. This forces me to wash again (I usually will use a waterless wash product). This gets me quite upset. If only the water would just sheet off the panel instead of beading it would be amazing. Someone I know told me applying wax over my coating is a solution, but I remember that very same person telling me in the past that when you have a coating, one of its role is to push away everything, INCLUDING wax. So what's your opinion on this? Can wax really prevent dirty water stains? Or maybe another product on top of Gloss-Coat? Or just another coating completely? This gets me really frustrated so please help me out. Thanks! :-)
I read this comment and if you haven't already found a solution, this worked for me. Turtle Wax Flex wax and Maguires ceramic detailer. After I tried many products, I found these 2 work best for me.
I use Meguiars ceramic bead booster(m799) as a topper after a traditional car wash over Carpro UK 3.0. It gives a real dark look to the paint and keeps the 13 month old coating working like new. The problem you're having is likely dust on the car before it rains and drying as water spots. Try a leaf blower to remove the water or drive the car before it dries on the paint to help with the amount of water drying on the car.
I wish you had used a better wax for the test. Since waxing a ceramic coating isn't really appropriate what do you recommend? I like the Opti-coat system but I think it is a little too expensive for me.
hey! awesome video as always. i have a question. i got my car ceramic coated and its first wash is due after 2 days. but unfortunately there was rain in my area and now my car has drops all over it and they also dried up on the car. i am worried whether this would damage the ceramic coating or leave water spots. should i really wait 2 more days for the first wash ?
I read Pro from Europe. First wax, then ceramic spray. I have one question. Can I spray ceramic product at once after the wax, or leave it for some time?
I do not understand how your going to get any light scratches out of a ceramic coating finish. Am I going to have to go through the entire process of preping again. And by preping do you mean polishing followed by ceramic coat? Thks
Do you have a donation platform? I've been watching a literal ton of your videos and I would like to send you some monies but don't want to support amazon via buying products through affiliate links. will soon be grabbing one of your foam cannons off your site as well.
Russo will diminish the gloss quality of any coating. By itself it’s a awesome wax for protection, but it fails to make the paintwork look glossier/deeper
@@SpartanKyuubi I’m gunna have to disagree with that I just put it on my test panel and there’s a crazy difference I can actually see the metallic flakes in the paint before it just looked like green paint and it looks like it’s a much deeper colour then it was before

I was disappointed a little when you said the 2010 BMW has a hard clear coat, I have a 2011 535 I’m about to try and get the swirls out of the clear coat. Wish me luck
Have you been able to test the actual durability of TEC582? I’m curious how long it actually lasts and how often it should be applied. I’m also curious if it would make a good final step after freshly ceramic coating a vehicle to protect the coating from water spots and such for the week or two afterwards
tec582 is awesome- it gives the best shine to my cars without streaks or high spots, even when used in the florida sun on a florida summer day. I have used it as a standalone protectant and while I never fully tested the durability, it did withstand a citrus wash and Carpro Descale wash. I use it as a topper after every wash without any issues or buildup/high spots. I just bought the 5 gallon so its even more economical. I just ceramic coated my car and considered using it right after but felt I should let it cure the 14 days first.
No. You should do a strip wash to remove all the chemicals on the paint including wax, chemically and mechanically decon the paint, before applying ceramic coating. Ceramic coating should always be bound to clean clear coat, not to any forms of chemicals or wax.
Help needed: I know this is old, but hopefully someone will see this and point me in the right direction. First thing, female here, thus I know as much as I am informed, meaning given I've been told several different things I just want a simple solution and plain and simple answers. So, got my car, out of the bat I had some issues wight the car dealer, it was perfect when I received it, by the first time I took it to be detailed, I was informed and shown that the paint had water damage, it had water stains all over, so went back to the car dealership because it was a new car and there was no way that coukd have happened in 2 weeks, they recognised the issue and took care of it, returning my car brand new and gorgeous. Next step: got ceramic coating done because I wanted to prevent what I saw can actually happen. Get to the place, is not cheap, do it and also get a clear plaxi I think it's called for my windshield. I had my car for less than a month when I found it scratch in the right side of the bumper, and the following week keyed, confronted the guy who I know did it, and yeah, FML. Anyway, take it to the same place to get an estimate and see what they can do, without having to involve my insurance company, it's a no go, they say they cannot polish nor wax on top of the ceramic coating, the two pieces have to be paint/worked on and the do the ceramic on top of it... And a part of me feels like it is bs. I mean sure there's a part of the scratch in the bumper where the paint was chipped so I know that cannot be fixed without getting worked on, but the rest I believe it should be either fixed or at least improved. Also, regardless of the ceramic coating I am noticing water stains again on my review glass especially, and I've found scratches inside my car, the glass sections, and it must be from when I get the care detailed because there is no way it's me, I don't even handle keys not sharp anything inside the car, so with that said, what products should I use on the exterior of my car which has a ceramic coating that can possibly remove or reduce scratches without compromising the ceramic and inside to also get rid of scratches?
It would be more difficult to remove scratches on ceramic coated cars but absolutely doable. Search "How to remove scratches from vehicles with CERAMIC COATINGS!!!"
"Yes. Video's over. See ya in the next one." 😂 yeah, that got me. Yes you Can, but no you shouldn't. The wax is less Hydrophobic than the ceramic, so you're negating the ceramic. Now to unpause and see the video's answer. Edit: ok, so mostly just a longer version of what I said but with a better explanation.
Usually im not a dick but i have to thank you for just letting us know that if we put wax over a ceramic coating that the ceramic coating is still there just under the wax. 🤤🤤🤤 i love you videos and u helped me grow but that one hurt my brain lol
Negative ghost rider, so detailer to detailer.. not a weekend warrior lol… since yes, waxes are cleaner product.. the abrasion between the product and the pad will definitely hinder the coating.. that looks possibly like a malco medium polish.. so would be abrasive enough..also if you choose to wax, which I wouldn’t.. there are hundreds of sprayable topper products on any local shelf that will boost hydrophobic properties and help maintain coatings… but in any high temp states… wax will render itself useless on any hot day with the exception of a few which will cause the wax to clog the coating.. now you have more of a issue, you can use iron removers and so on to cleanse the surface but it’s just not worth it… buy a spray topper and move on with life 😊
Hey mike, I agree a spray topper is the easiest way to go. I actually just used the meguiars cleaner wax on this. Not enough abrasion to degrade a coating from that usage but over multiple applications it could potentially. The reason I made the video is because I get asked this question all the time. People think that they are completely removing the coating from adding a wax and I wanted to explain that for them so they dont have to worry that they ruined their coating. But yes I always advise people to use a product like carpro reload or something similar instead of a wax.
The wax is a much poorer product, with lessor properties. Why would you put a product over a ceramic that is not superior in any way? The ceramic is harder and more hydrophobic. The wax absorbs more contamination (and fades your paint). The wax water spots easier and is simply less superior in every measurement. Took me a while and lots of wasted time and money to figure this out.

Should you 1.use compound wax, than 2.wax and then use the spray Nu finish the better than wax ceramic coating or do you put the new finish on before the wax and do not use the canoeba wax at all
Whats going on if water spots come after rinsing a vehicle with ceramic coating? What woould you recommend?
Best explanation on UA-cam, thanks 👍
Could you try AVA of Norway Pressure Washer? i know its might not is so easy to get but you could try and see if AVA of norway would send out to usa?.
Straight to the point....damn.... respect
After using isoprep to decon the wax for removal, should you do a second pass with alcohol if there is some wax still left over?
Excellent video
Thank u so much
Why not using only a topper over the ceramic like "Xtreme Topper"?
Yea that is what you should do. Keep your a ceramic topper instead of a wax.
Nice video. Thanks Josh
No more than this.
ones again thanks again Josh!!
Great vid! Here in the UK, I usually apply a graphene or Carnuba infused wax then a layer of the Turtle Wax Hybrid solutions Ceramic spray coating. Am i just making extra work for myself? Should I apply the wax after the ceramic coating instead of before?
Thanks josh does ceramic coat add any mils of thickness of the clear coat
No it does not, it protects it
@@MikesAutoDetailing ok thanks just a layer of protection I had a coating put on my truck a few years ago called xkote you may have heard of it it’s almost like a wipe on clear coat and I could not believe the difference it made the truck is still looking great
@@coreymerritt7742 with proper maintenance it will for awhile...great job
The thickness is barely measurable. I think a single layer is about 1-2 microns in depth.
I just subscribed, now have you ever hear of or done anything with dura coating out of Florida
Missed this one..Thnx!
Hi Josh, if i recently washed my car and applied butter wet wax from chemical guys as i had it laying around, i wanted to know if i can still use the technicians choice tec582 as a quick detailer on top of it?
Sure can! It will make it feel extra slick
Do you have recommendations for diluting Tec582 for various applications, ex. exterior/interior, etc. or do you simply use it full strength for everything?
Love the Fred Flintstone car picture!! Thx for the tips!! Where did you get those wall holders for wax, etc?
@@V.Oakley Thanks for your help man. Just one question though. You mean either one of a combination of both those products?
Great video! Does this mean that we should avoid using wash and wax shampoo on a ceramic coated car too? Thanks.
I would like to try hybrid solution ceramic paste wax over a ceramic coat.
i donty really care what water does, i want an extra layer of protection. thank you for the quick answer.
So if Im going to polish the car after claying it do I go with the ceramic or a good wax. I want it to look as shinny as possible.
If I am using colored wax to fill imperfections, will it still work after applying a ceramic coating?
what about adding CERAMIC coat over wax?
can I use turtle CERAMIC spray coating over turtle dry and wax ?
I do not understand how your going to get any light scratches out of a ceramic coating finish. Am I going to have to go through the entire process of preping again. And by preping do you mean polishing followed by ceramic coat? Thks
What if you get small light scratches in ceramic coat can you buff them out
Do you have a donation platform? I've been watching a literal ton of your videos and I would like to send you some monies but don't want to support amazon via buying products through affiliate links. will soon be grabbing one of your foam cannons off your site as well.
Hey Josh, what do you use for a glass sealant?
Is the unbranded foam gun on DTLR Supply exactly the same as MJJC foam gun?
Yep, Its the latest model. The MJJC foam cannon pro v2 (just with no logos)
@@imjoshv I just ordered one does it come with the 1.1mm Orifice?

How often should a ceramic coating be reapplied? Once a year?
Depends on the coating. The ones i use are 5 year or 7 year!
now my question is: how long will last the wax on coated/uncoated paint?is there difference ?
No difference, the ceramic doesn’t effect the wax since the ceramic is underneath the wax so the wax will still be the first layer of protection.
Can we use polisher just applying wax on a ceramic coated car? Is it ok to do that?
Can you please test the ryobi 2300 with the 5 in 1 nozzle and report back what psi it is getting?
Fantastic explanation
This might be a dumb question but what about a ceramic or graphene based wax as a top over a ceramic coat?
Fusso coat would be the best wax to put on a ceramic coating it’s just as hydrophobic and can last up to 12 months
Russo will diminish the gloss quality of any coating.
By itself it’s a awesome wax for protection, but it fails to make the paintwork look glossier/deeper
@@SpartanKyuubi I’m gunna have to disagree with that I just put it on my test panel and there’s a crazy difference I can actually see the metallic flakes in the paint before it just looked like green paint and it looks like it’s a much deeper colour then it was before
What's ur thoughts on applying a glaze over a ceramic coating?
Is it ever necessary to wax after you use a ceramic coating? How ofter do I use a ceramic coating?
i like how you didn't put wax on the bird poop!!!
My ceramic coating is starting to wear off. I don't really want to spend the time, effort, and/or money to get a fresh coating. I'm thinking about just waxing it. Thoughts?
If you’re in a dusty area or a area that rains a lot just do ceramic
Yeah just wax it.
I was disappointed a little when you said the 2010 BMW has a hard clear coat, I have a 2011 535 I’m about to try and get the swirls out of the clear coat. Wish me luck
Ha it’s totally possible. Just move the polisher a bit slower
My car got detailed, they put wax on it, can I apply ceramic coating on top of the wax?
No. You should do a strip wash to remove all the chemicals on the paint including wax, chemically and mechanically decon the paint, before applying ceramic coating. Ceramic coating should always be bound to clean clear coat, not to any forms of chemicals or wax.
I wouldn't use a wax on a ceramic coating. I would use a ceramic based product like TLC2 for a topper.
I agree!!
Help needed:
I know this is old, but hopefully someone will see this and point me in the right direction.
I use spray Wax carnuba wax by chemical guys ,
cermic then ppf then ceramic again then wax
This is why never use wax or wax detailers o top of ceramic coatings. Only silica based products on coatings 👌
Using a cleaner wax that does indeed polish with a machine sure is a bad choice for this example.
Usually im not a dick but i have to thank you for just letting us know that if we put wax over a ceramic coating that the ceramic coating is still there just under the wax. 🤤🤤🤤 i love you videos and u helped me grow but that one hurt my brain lol
I guess that some people probably need this explained to them though lol
You can only put carnuba wax on ceramic coating
Bird Poop is some kind of Hazardous Waste! Eats through Ceramic coating and
Clear coat. They also are expert shots with the stuff...
Haha no kidding
Can you ceramic coat over wax?
Good question. I was wondering about that too but i don't see any replies. Thanks
No you don't. Coz you needed the ceramic coat to adhere to the car paint instead on the Wax! That would be pointless for the ceramic coat.
that intro 😂
1ST TO COMMENT!!!!!
"It's been a while.. "
