    Hi,
I'm a bit confused. So, I don't really need a deep bend of my knee before making the turn, is that correct? Thanks. Love your videos.

Hi Nikky, thanks for your question.
Knee bend is an important part of a good skating push, which is the start of every 3 turn. Once our push is complete and we are gliding closer to our desired moment of turning, we can rise to a more natural, near-straight standing leg. The start of the turn itself is controlled by releasing the heel/back of the blade from the ice by engaging the rocker.
Depth of knee bend will depend on our level of experience and training as well as our chosen discipline (singles, ice dance, pairs, synchro) as each has slightly differing styles.

Thanks for the video! Well done. My question is where do you find your skating pants? I’ve been looking for something similar. Thanks.

Thank you. They’re my favourites! They’re by a company called Saint & Sofia. Apartment pants.

Great video :) i thought the 3 turn was initiated by the rotation of the shoulders first and then the hips..
So its the opposite ( hips first)? Am i correct ?

Hi Chris! Good question. The trigger or start point is the engagement of the blade rocker (pressure in the ball of the foot to raise the heel for the duration of the turn) followed by the team work of hips and shoulders in unison. Until the rocker is engaged there is too large a surface area of the blade in contact with the ice and the blade wont turn cleanly. Trying to twist hips or shoulders or both before using the rocker would result in a scraped or failed turn as the friction of the larger surface area of the blade would restrict or prevent rotation.
