really nice work, brings back fond teenage year memories, seeing friends rolling on similar bikes(and busting their shins on these knockoff club roost shin killers, or the illness pedals from superstar components) when echo stuff was kinda new, expensive and premium :)
You said this is a retro bike have you thought about doing a history or trials vid? It would be fascinating to see the evolution of trails bikes. Have a merry Christmas
That's some super cereal weight-saving ❤
Happy Christmas nice build looking forward to more
Looks great Ali love the wrap. To potentially help fix the the grips as they are clearing maybe wrap the bars under where the grips will go to in the same holographic wrap and hopefully it will make the grips look silver at worst and semi holographic at best and would match at least. Just an idea cheers
Now THATS a weight saving! - excellent video Ali 👍👍
Looks great...without the seat!
I like it best with the seat myself but it is nice without as well. :)
With the seat, for sure.
14:30 double take there as I thought you were using a pencil to tighten that bolt 😂
Wow 8.9 kg that’s probably just my glory frame😂 I just hope it’s heavy enough not to blow away in the wind over the past few days looks so sick with the wrap and the wheels on
Great build, Ali! If I lost interest in bikes tomorrow, I'd keep coming back to your channel for the puns :D
Putting the freewheel central is an idea a few companies are trying for in MTB by releasing adapter kits which take advantage of DM cranks. At this time you need to zip-tie the cassette against the rear spokes but these systems offer potential advantages.
Firstly, with the demand for reduced unsprung mass they offer a chance for fixed wheels which may shave a few grams from the rear end.
Second, they offer excellent POE yet can still do so with more surface area in that lockup.
Thirdly is a speed advantage. Because the chain is in constant motion, one can change gear while freewheeling such that power delivery can be instant. XC and DH may one day fullt utilise this advantage.
Don’t forget that the suspension will work better too as ingress isolated from the chain kickback 👍🏻
@@Ali_Clarkson yes and no. Kickback is speed dependent, it's exaggerated when the rear wheel is static as there's no capacity to allow the freehub to move adequately however once it's going, the relative motion of the wheel to freehub frees everything up. Most kickback during riding is down to the derailleur rather than the freehub.
If a wheel is at 180rpm and a suspension linkage moves such that on return it would impart 60rpm against the freehub, the result ends up being a temporary period of the wheel rotating clockwise at 180rpm and the freehub having a relative rotation of 120rpm anti-clockwise.
Demonstrations using a treadmill would offer a more realistic portrait of kickback than the static tests we see.
Another great build. Might be boring for a video but why don't maguras work when going backwards?
I think it’s because the pads have a lot of play/wobble and kinda splay away from the frame when going backwards…with the mounts under the stays they get splayed into the frame which causes a more of a wedge effect. This is also the effect of v brakes, they wedge in and have insane backwards holding power
Freaking wild!
@20:10
so cool
Great build ali .merry xmas and happy new year. I think it needs the seat the be honest but im old school.
I miss the old headset fitting tool.
Hey I cant seem to find the K610 available anywhere, is the KMC Z1eHX the new version of it? cheers
Yes it is 👍🏻
@@Ali_Clarkson Cheers mate thank you !
That was quite a bit of interesting info..)
Diggin' the cave-surgeon approach to bikes X)/*
seat
Seat
I like the look of t-rex with chair, but weight, there's more ... weight. 🤔 Not sure if it isn't against the spirit of this Holy Swiss Cheese Disco T-rex build.
That is such a cool bike. When the light hits it in dusk or dawn it’ll look stunning. Especially if it’s in the snow! For a laugh you could submit it to the bike vault and get a super nice from Mr Ashton!
It looks so nice but i would choose without seat😊
I sold one of these to you ali a few months ago on eBay black one
Looking forward o the riding video.
Have a good Xmas Ali!
Definitely no seat
Seatless is the way
No seat!
Insane look ❤
No seat
Like a zoo pit bull
I think the stays will hold up and I think the seat should absolutely go on! The bike will feel a lot heavier once you have to ride it all the way to a spot with no seat! Plus it looks cooler with it on. Impressive steerer tube clearance too
I wonder what weight saving you would get from externally butting box section tubes aka Pace RC100/RC200 ? Great videos by the way.
Psychedelic or what?! Wishing you all a very happy Christmas
drill hands looks usefull!
Where did you get that headset cup adapter?! I've been looking for one for ages!
Very entertaining as always. +1 for No seat
But how did you wrap that front rim so clean? Save that bike for trials shows.
Amazing job. Although the Seat that you made is pretty cool. I would go no see seat
Billy bonkers full name is actually Silliam William if you were being formal…
It's just not the same without smashing the headset in with the wood 😢
Nice very nice but put the seat on with some reducing 🤘☠🤘
Looks sick! 😍☝️🚴
Bring back the seat!
Looks really nice 👍love it
Enter it in a comp 🤘☠🤘
Nice put it on 🤘☠🤘
With seat
No seat….
no seat is the way to go mate!
Seat off
Like it!
I'm really delighted that you find a way to easily lube your bottom (bracket)! :D
That is a nice looking bike! I am sure you'll get on with it, look forward to a ride video
Ali, looks like the cat passed your bike inspection by a whisker and you owe kitty snacks to complete the bribe!! Looked like a good BB elevation for the ride you did.
I think is turned out fantastic Sir. and I love the seat. It is interesting to watch the differences of how you build custom bikes for trials and how I build custom bikes for the stuff I do. I really dig the frame drilling and it reminds me of drillum for road bikes back in the day. I don't know about that wrap, perhaps it is a bit much for my tastes where I would prefer just bare metal with a clear coat. Yet the shiny rainbow tinfoil is growing on me. I really loved how the head tube looks with the carbon pattern of the steerer tube behind it. Over it is a beautiful build and looks like you are going to have a great time riding it. I look forward to seeing you all over crazy obstacles on this gem. Cheers - M
few years back when slick tires were expensive , i made a pair from scrap mtb tires using an angle grinder with a backing plate and very coarse sanding disc , this method would be good for your custom rear tire I think.
Been waiting for this looks sick!
Super cool bike, I think that the seat looks good! The cute thief has struck again and supplied you with some great parts!
I had a wisdom tooth removed a couple of years ago and they gave me a dental irrigation syringe which has been re-purposed as a grease applicator. They're a lot smaller than the one you had but they have an angled tip which is perfect for getting a small amount of grease onto internal threads.
Beautiful buildi Ali be interesting to see if those pedals survive . Defo seat . Happy Christmas and thank you for a year of fantastic content
I think the porcupine will actually rest in peace after it all 🦔 Merry Christmas
Awesome build 👍 thanks for sharing the progress.
Great build!
Great build, it's good to see what can be done with an old frame with flair and talent 👍
I was so excited for part 2 and it finally came out❤
Great video as always dude
Definitely run it with the seat, it fits the bike perfectly
