It took me a long time to get into this song. At first my brain reacted negatively to the word "Babylon", because I was unfortunately raised in a strict Christian cult and the associations were not nice.. I got over it though, and now this is one of my favourite songs. It's so expressive and indulgent! And the way this man uses his voice in this song, jeez.. his unusual vibrato he does when singing and inhaling at the same time (or whatever it is he does...) I can see you react to that as well, it's such an odd way of singing. Beautiful!!

    • @BemusingBill
      @BemusingBill  7 днів тому

Yeah right, whatever it is he does! I don't know either! Thank you my friend. Glad you're out of that cult! ❤️

Thank you dear Bill ❤, for reacting to this performance and the interesting short video. I hope you both enjoyed them!
"Sweet Babylon" is an amazing and captivating performance; the creativity and songwriting are truly unique.
"Babylon" is a metaphor for a dangerous place where one feels stuck in a cycle of desire and unhappiness.
The lyrics talk about temptation, self-doubt, and the struggle to leave a corrupt system, while also recognizing its comfort.
Looking forward for more Asaf 🥀

@@orlylivne another excellent summary of the song. That's one of the best parts of hanging in the record store. You get wonderful insights from multiple people, and it enhances your understanding of the artists, enhances your love for the artists or that particular song. I told Bill in my first visit to the store for My Latest Sin that my best course of action is to sit quietly and observe all your conversations. I never could have made the connections many of you make with the lyrics.. too often a knucklehead like me has the metaphors go right over my head.. but the cool thing is I get to hang out here in the store and listen to phenomenal breakdowns like this and I gain such a better understanding and end up appreciating the sings more. Loved the short video.. wow.. what a find! Loved to watch those behind the scenes footage. It was absolutely wonderful ❤️ Thank you so much for the request and for your kind words under my comment. ❤️ 🙏

After a long week of bills to pay, demanding schedules, and a boss, that's goal seems to be to push me past my limits. I finally get some time to myself. My feet can't get me to that little hidden store up the street fast enough.. As I enter the door, the familiar sound of the bell hits my ears. It's like Pavlovs bell, as though I'm conditioned to immediately feel that tention leave my shoulders. As the door closes behind me, it feels as though i have left the hustle and bustle behind. That smile that had been missing all week returns to my face as Bill gives me a smile and says, welcome back. Knowing he always has something going, I eagerly ask what's new? Bill cracks a smile and says; we definitely got something new today. Some more from Asaf.. I smile and ask Rinat? Bill says.. no.. not this time.. actually; Orly brought us something special.. hold on a sec. Always the gentleman Bill quickly confirms with Orly if i can join the others for her video. Looks up and waves me over.. as i flip the empty milk carton over to have a seat, Bill hits play. About a minute in and Bills exchanges glances around the room.. as if to say, "Are you seeing This!!" Wow, what a treat getting to see the behind the scenes footage of the creative process. I immediately recognize that Asaf doesn't just love music; he Lives for it! The home has instruments and equipment throughout.. how often do you get this kind of a look behind the curtains. ❤ Bill pauses the video and sombody jokes; "Hey, I was watching that." Bill without missing a beat quickly gives him a that look and points to his shirt. 😊 Everyone cracks up as Bills friendly smile comes back revealing that great sense of humor. He then begins to point out the different random names from the video and gives us all some of their background information.. everyone sits silent as we follow his shirts instructions.. I think this..yes, this is what i love about this place; I can listen to music anywhere. But where can i not only enjoy music; but I can get educated and benefit from Bill and everyone heres knowledge. There is always great conversation; even the disagreements here are done in a friendly way, and with respect for eachother and quite honestly I believe its because of the atmosphere Bill creates.. we Do Respect His Authority!! 😂 Because to get respect; you have to give respect and we all see the time and care he gives each reaction; we all see the respect he shows all the artists and all of the guests who visit the store; regardless if you've been coming there for years or its your first time. ❤ Time stands still for a bit as we all enjoy a day getting lost in music and conversation. When i get home that night I put on my new Asaf record; sit back and smile about a day well spent. ❤ the Pavlov effect has carried on into the evening as the tension has not returned to my shoulders.. no, not after a trip to Bills Record store.. just a smile. Tomorrow the tention may return, the world will keep on spinning after all.. But it's nice to know there is a bell out there that will transport me away from all the worlds BS and all the tension fades away. ❤ Bill, thank you so, so much for your kind words. You made my day. Much love to you and everyone in the store. ❤ I also have much love to the kind people I've met in the Asafs community❤and a special thank you to Orly for bringing us these great videos. 👍 ❤ Take care, and God bless you all. ❤

Thank you so much, dear friend! Wonderful to hang out with you and check out another Asaf masterpiece! Thanks to Orly for pointing us in the right direction, too. I love how old Cartman was part of the narrative: Respect My Author-a-TAYYY! You're the very best buddy! I hear ya, I'm Pavlov's Dog salivating awhen i hear that bell knowing what bliss lies ahead. Take care my friend and God bless! 🤘❤️🤘

Bill really does give me that vibe.. that's what's so great about the channel.. Bill is just a solid guy. He knows his stuff. He's so kind and respectful.. what's not to like about a guy like that? I get a bit nostalgic as I write those too, so it's really fun. Always a pleasure visiting the store with all you wonderful people. Every one is so kind.. it really does feel like you step away from life's struggles when you come through that door. So glad you directed me to Bills channel. ❤️ 🙏

    Wow, what a track!😍
This song is so rich with emotion and depth. Asaf really taps into that delicate balance between freedom and struggle. I have to say, Asaf’s songs are always so complex, it’s impossible not to be drawn in every time, and "Sweet Babylon" is a special one, isn’t it? There’s so much depth in it.
The metaphor of "Babylon" is powerful here - it represents the "city of sin," a place of temptation, excess, and chaos. But it also carries a sense of belonging and familiarity. It’s a paradoxical place where freedom seems within reach, but it forces you to confront your past struggles, your inner demons, and the parts of yourself that you might not be ready to face.. It’s a complex, emotional tug-of-war.
Oh, and that little clip before the song-I can never get enough of seeing how the album came to life! Asaf’s collaboration with the talented producer Mark Howard really stands out. Together, they’ve created something that feels so authentic and unique, giving us a glimpse behind the scenes of what makes this album special!! And all those incredible musicians-they bring so much to the table, shedding light on how they arrived at this perfect result. I can tell it’s been an amazing journey for them all!
The energy in this song, especially as it hits emotional peaks, is truly overwhelming. It's a track that speaks to the heart, and with Asaf, the way the lyrics flow feels like he's living those emotions in full.
A huge thanks to Orly for this amazing request🥰
Thank you for this, dear Bill🤗 As always, your reaction adds so much to our appreciation of Asaf🫶
It’s clear that you and Nancy put your heart into everything. Can’t wait to see more from you both.

    Hi Bill,
Good to see you again, my friend! This comment is going to be a bit different from my usual praise of Asaf's music. ♡。゚🎶♡。゚*☆♡。゚♬♡。 I’m sure everyone on the planet knows how much I admire him and his work ♡。゚🎶♡。゚*☆♡。゚♬♡。 but today, I’m diving head first into a fact-finding and answer- providing mode to address some of your questions.
I've gotten creative in my pursuit to learn as much as I can about Asaf, and I've managed to find some new info and pictures that I hadn’t seen before. Maybe @orlylivne and @Rinat.N have already seen it (highly likely), but it's awesome that @orlylivne recommended the "Behind the Scenes" video for Study on Falling. Just the other day, I found a blog from a photographer named Breezy. I’m not sure if she was at the Raven's Eye Manor as a professional or just as a friend, but it seems like she was a long-time friend of Brady Blade, as well as a chef named Maggie, who was also present. I’m sharing the info on my channel along with your reaction and the photographer’s blog for everyone to check out.
The recording of Study on Falling took place (surprisingly to me) at Harry Gesner's Raven’s Eye Mansion in Malibu, California. (ᵒ̤̑ ₀̑ ᵒ̤̑) wow!*✰ in The States come back ( ´•̥̥̥o•̥̥̥`)♡(˘̩̩̩̩̩̩ ⌂ ˘̩̩̩̩̩̩)
While I don't recognize all the names, I did some homework for you, Bill! :) I was mainly curious about who the photographer knew at the recording session, and here’s what I found in addition to a bit more research on the musicians. Since I know you love diving into the details about your reactions and the artists...Sooooo ˗ˏˋᗰદ૨૨ʏ ᘓમ૨ıડτന੨ડˎˊ˗ lol
★ Mark Howard: Producer who’s worked with legends like Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, and Iggy Pop.
★ Zack Ray: Keyboardist on Study on Falling, who’s also collaborated with Willie Nelson and John Legend.
★ Don Heffington: Drummer who laid the foundation for many of the tracks on Study on Falling.
★ Chris Masterson: Guitarist/session musician. His primary role was to bring his unique blend of rock, country, and folk to the album.
★ Vince Jones: Jazz trumpet player, known for his ability to blend traditional jazz with contemporary influences. A major figure in Australian jazz.
★ Brady Blade: Drummer who has collaborated with artists like The Wallflowers and Sheryl Crow. Known for his emotionally charged, stripped-down style.
★ Hal Cragin: Bassist, and also an engineer and musician. He contributed to the atmospheric, layered sound characteristic of the album. He’s recognized for his ability to blend different musical styles while maintaining raw, emotional authenticity.
★ Eric Schermerhorn: Session guitarist who has worked with Iggy Pop and David Bowie. He has a style similar to Asaf's, with a blend of bluesy rock and experimental tones.
★Joel Shearer: Guitarist and songwriter, providing both the rhythmic foundation and melodic counterpoint to Asaf Avidan’s emotive vocals. His contributions really enhanced the album's dynamic nature.

I notice a very clear picture when it comes to Asaf picking who he wants to collaborate with on his albums. Can you spot the trend? I'm sure you can! See you next time my friend.

Thank you so much, my friend! Fantastic info! Yeah, only a few names stood out and I'm not even sure if it was accurate at the time (old brain!) But I got a few of them! I think the common thread is who they worked with like They Might Be Giants (loved them since the late 80s and seen them live around 97 or 98), Iggy Pop, and the late great David Bowie- all great artists and innovators. Thanks again! I'm heading over to your channel! Subscribed! Love your support of Asaf and us humble reactors! Much love, my friend! ❤️
