I finally got a video showing how to put this system together. I watched three other videos on this subject and all the guy's did was bullshit what they did in the Military. I now know how to put this bag together. Thank you.
I have one. My buddies sleep in tents. I prefer to sleep under the stars, on a cot. On several occasions I've woken up with frost on my bag & pillow, and all liquids left out are frozen. Sleeps nice and cozy, watching satellites, meteors and the Milky Way.
I have used mine for many years, bought three for my grandkids, and just gave mine to my sister so I get to buy a new one. I have used it in the winter in the Colorado Mountains under the stars at 5 degrees with several inches of snow and was very warm...until I got out. One of my grandkids used it during a rainstorm, again under the stars, and stayed perfectly dry. Do take the time to understand how to assemble and use the bag!
I just got my first mmss. I bought it new in bag. Your video is the best at showing how to snap everything together. Thanks for the effort to make the best tutorial and gear review video online for this gear. Looking forward to lots of outdoor time.
For those of us who have had to deal with sub-zero temperatures this type of bed roll system has been used for ages and ages. It was common to take an extreme cold sleeping bag, stuff it with a mountain bag and wrap it up with a poncho. Good for whatever Mother Nature throws at you and I've been using this bed roll for the last 40 yrs. Both bags are feathers and down and wash up very easy. I would never stuff these in a bag, but roll them up lengthwise to surround the outside of a pack. Was able to replace the poncho with the new bivy I found at a garage sale for 5 bucks last spring. Just an oldster giving out a tip or two, it may work for you.....
A few months ago I found the bivy at my local goodwill for about $15. I just went back today and got the green bag for $6. I didn't even know they worked together untill I started researching. Maybe one day I'll find the black one too!
I am in one of these bags as I watch this! Two nights ago, our temperature plunged to below zero with daytime highs if only about 10. Stayed nice and toasty inside!
5 years after being published this video still rocks! I have used this system all over the world, in extreme places and weather and I still love it. The only thing I added was my poncho liner "woobee". If you don't have one of these and you expect to be sleeping in extreme conditions, it is worth every penny to get one, and in February of 2022, you will pay $700 for this set.
Tennier Industries (the company who makes them) srlls them for about $300-350. Never overpay for this. It is a great system, but so many places overcharge for it. I recently found the bivy and patrol bags with the smaller stuff sack for $18. Great condition also. I already had the large stuff sack, so I just need the intermediate cold weather bag. The local surplus store usually has it dor $50-70. I also have a poncho liner and a civilian version of the Therm-o-rest sleeping pad that fits inside. It is the ugly orange color, but works well inside the bivy.
Great video , I’m about to pull the trigger on this and found an XL version that’s longer and slightly wider, it says it’s from Tennier industries- but have you heard about them making an Xl version? Just want to make sure.. cheers and have a great year!
I just bought a surplus one (3/2024). It shows a slight bit of wear, and a couple of the snaps are shot, but not enough to cause an issue. Bivvy is like new! $159.00 😊
The Bivy is the gem of the system. I bought a used one and pair it with everything from bag liners in the hot, humid summer nights, wool blankets, and nested Carinthia military bags as it gets colder. No snap in bags, but it still works well with any combination of bags or blankets. Great, succinct review Dave!
i guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know a way to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow forgot my account password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Clay Layne Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I own one of these systems and love it. It doesn't pack down small and is heavy compared to the latest and greatest down bags, but it's warm and pretty much bomb proof. Great video, thanks for sharing.
You are exactly right...its big, bulky and heavy, but with that said, I also love it! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! -Dave
I roved Europe lugging a two-man tent that I only used occasionally, although when I did it was really valuable. I wish I had this system instead. For really cold conditions, in addition to the patrol and immediate bags, I use a tight-fitting down bag I got at a yard sale for $1. (All it needed was cleaning up.) When it gets cold enough for that down bag, there are none of the moisture issues that trouble down, and that down compresses down incredibly well.
I use to sleep in bags on the mountains in the summer, but not as good and professional as this one. It looks heavy, but very complete and the modular concept is very clever!
Thank you for watching, Federico! Very nice to hear from you, my friend! Thank you for sharing your sleeping bag experience while camping in the mountains! -Dave
Black winter bag ,Green summer bag , Camo is weather proof shell it goes black goes inside green and green inside camo and that is how you do it black inside green green inside camo and also have a yoga mat possibly 2 one to reflect heat back at you but have 2 small tarps so on on ground and one for roof of shelter then when you go survival roof tarp keeps out snow and rain and wind all right thats it
I've been wanting to get one of these from a local surplus store but, without the functional knowledge of how to use one, I haven't pulled the trigger. Thank you for this very thorough and educational video. Now I can make my purchase with confidence.
That is great to hear, my friend! I am very happy to be of some assistance! If you pick one up, make sure to let me know your initial impressions and how you like it! Thank you for the awesome comment! -Dave
Great video review of this system. I’ve used the bivouac bag and patrol bag in a hammock down to 25 degrees Fahrenheit. I won’t say I was toasty when I woke up but I was warm enough to sleep all night. I found out that the temperature was much lower than predicted that morning.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! Yes, very difficult to stay "toasty" with unpredictable weather..haha! -Dave
Great demo on the MSS. This will be overkilling construction for the average outdoor adventurer. But it can serve as a model for someone who wants to us less rugged construction and almost cut the weight of the total MSS in half. You can also add a Ninja.suite for a first layer. for summer skivvies and for winter poly pro or merino long sleeve Tee and long bottoms (in black to be a Ninja. Best sleeping system ever. I have been using the lightweight version that I put together myself. My first contact and use of the system goes back to the 1970 when Eddy Bauer sporting goods made a one pound down liner to go inside their down sleeping bags. Over time I added a one pound Bivy from REI to enclose what is now called the MSS. The MSS works best with the sleeping pad inside the Bivy. There are so many ways to create your own variations.
I've been using this system since 1988? Never let me down. It is a bit heavier to pack, but I still get a chuckle when I hear ultra-lite packers teeth chattering all night long. So, I guess its worth it.
Bought a complete system for $150 at Allied Surplus in Phoenix. Inspected each component for wear. Each piece was in VERY good condition given that it was surplus. Snaps, zippers, draw cords all good to go! As the video says, this is an amazing system. It IS heavy with all components - not something you're taking on a thru-hike!
I have slept in my patrol sack and bivy down to 32* and its still warm for me - but I sleep in a stealth tent and strip down. I have used the winter bag and bivy in that weather in the same conditions and I end up sweating pretty good. I made the mistake of forgetting my patrol bag around 50* and it actually rained in the tent... I love my MSS
I am a single female putting a bugout bag together. I have been camping several times now (England) to test my kit, and it really needs more work..... Any suggestions from seasoned survivalist welcome! 🙏
Great video Dave, just did a weekend this past Friday, used just the black bag and bivy, it got down to 24 degrees.....was toasty warm with no fire! Thanks for sharing.
Great demo and very good communication skills. I’ve found MSS at great price online and your video was very helpful to asses if the MSS is good enough for my use.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, Omar! I am glad that I could help. Have you been able to pick one up? Hows it going? Keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
Best sleeping bag ever, I bought one almost new, it's in perfect condition. Used it down to 30F. I wish it was slightly larger for us older guys. It obviously was designed for a fit soldier. I like your channel Dave, I'm a new subscriber. Going through some of your old material. Love that Woodcrafter axe too! So much I had to order it!
Can not go wrong with the MMSS! I bought two for myself and my son from my local surplus store in Fresno,CA and got both brand new in the plastic bag for $180. So for anyone out there trying to get tough quality gear for a great price, please check out your local military surplus store! That's were I got my large Alice pack and my brand new CFP90 ruck sack. Loved the video buddy keep up the great work!
Now cover sleeping in this system as your primary shelter in summer, during high humidity and temperature. I'm anxious to know, since I'm looking into using this to add to a bug out system for multiple family members who have never camped.
I slept with this whole system and a sleeping mat in a -13f snowstorm, with a pitched tarp to keep the snow off. It was cold, but I was comfortable enough to sleep. This bag is huge and Heavy though, not ideal for backpacking
I just got this system, I've seen several at gun shows, but never took the time to lay them out, and check them, finally one of my local surplus stores had one, I got for $225.00 in excellent shape, just wondering if I would need to do some touch up waterproofing., great video
I purchased a sleeping bag and liner from Wal-Mart for camping out in Winter and the packs are so thick until I attached them to the backpack. That tarp will be able to go into the backpack and is light and strong. That is a nice sleeping system you have there and it must be so very warm too.
Couldn’t find this for as cheap as y’all, ended up forking over about $300 for it but after using the digital camo version in the army it’s worth every penny
honestly the waer proof bivy or how ever you call it is a life saver it helped me through out the coldest nights in winter training dont know what i would have done without it if you plan on getting the bivy i highly recomend it is a must carry on i take it every time we have wilderness/winter training itwieghs nothing so its okay to get even if youre packing a35-45kg heavy backpack ar as we call it a law bag honestly it saved my life
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment! I am also a big fan of the gortex bivy and I always carry it, as well! I always make sure I have it if I am only using one of the bags and I have also used it by itself, many times. You are exactly right...the weight allows me to always pack it! -Dave
I like this system and use something simular. I really love how "Lucky" rolls his bedroll. Instead of bands or expensive buckles, he uses old belts. I bought two at a used clothing store (Goodwill). @
the mss system is great, one thing I added is the dutch hooped bivy. for the insect screen AND! AND ! the hoop lets me breath ( don't like anything over my face a little claustrophobic I guess). Also a flannel sleeping bag liner adds about another 10 degrees or so of warmth). of course a hooped bivy doesn't work well in a hammock
Its a great investment and I think you would like it a lot, Mark! Thank you very much for stopping by and leaving your awesome comment, my friend! -Dave
Can you believe I found this in the trash? Someone from my command just threw this out. Is there an instruction on how to stow it in the compression bag?
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice, encouraging comment, Torsten! I appreciate you stopping by and please don't be a stranger! -Dave
Thanks Dave, I got my fix, can't wait for your next video! I have been wondering about that sleep system and now I think I'm ready to pull the trigger. See you next time buddy.
Thank you for the kind words, Jason! I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed the video! You would love this sleep system! I hope to talk with you again soon, my friend! -Dave
Dave, The MMSS looks like a great year round sleeping system. I wish that I could get out in the snow with you, but no snow down here in Florida. Thanks as always for sharing, and I noticed that you have exceeded 5,000 subscribers! Good Luck and continued growth!
Thank you for watching and leaving your very kind, encouraging words, my friend! I consider myself lucky to have your support! There may not be any snow there but at least you are in Florida! I hope to talk with you again soon! -Dave
@@garrett3055 Check pawn shops. Just picked up two near new sets for $25.00. Ended up getting two mummy pattern liners for $11.00 each to help keep them in good shape. Lots of USGI stuff turns up at pawn shops, and more often than not, they don't know what it is.
I have actually heard of other guys doing that and it sounds like a great idea, especially because my stuff sack is the weakest part of my system. Thank you for watching and for the info, my friend! -Dave
Thats great, james! What were your first impressions? Have you been able to take it out yet? How are you liking it so far? Thank you for watching and keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! It's always great to hear from you and I hope everything is going well on your side of the pond! -Dave
Got mine on Ebay in a bundle with a USMC FIBLE , hydration system , and assault backpack . It's a great system . There could still be some in real good condition bundled like that out there . Snatched mine a couple years ago for about $150 or $175 and it's holding up .
It's a great system for sure. I'm in the UK and unfortunately it's not too common over here but can be found if you make the effort to track it down. I currently have the Bivvy and the Intermediate (black bag) with the Green back on order from Germany. I've slept in this in my yard and had a good nights sleep. I slept with a full set of Merino Long Johns and top along with socks and a fleece hat and was cosy. The British army (and most other Nato countries) have a similar system from Carinthia. My favourite is the Carinthia Defense 4 bag, the Carinthia Tropen or Brenta bag and the Dutch Army Hooped bivy which is a Carinthia design manufactured by FECSA. The current commercial offerings are undoubtedly lighter but these Modular Sleep systems provide a good solid basis for camping.
Thank you for watching and sharing your experience, Mick! Sounds great! Most of the year, I will just carry the Bivvy and Green back. I love the Gortex Bivvy! Mixing and match this bag based on weather and outing is definitely one of the funnest parts! I appreciate you stopping by, my friend! -Dave
Do you know where one would find the other pieces? I have the intermediate black bag but in missing the others including the stuff to roll it up and put it away.
You’re lucky , my MSS is about 6” to short ……but they are consistent all three of my systems are short . I’m 6’5” and 310 lbs . It’s still a great system ,I just wish I fit .
I've been able to use my system a few times and I've always been warm...sometimes too warm. But that's easy to fix. Great review Dave. I'm working this week then it's three weeks off!
Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words, my friend! Yes, it can tend to get too warm but the easy fix is a beautiful thing! I am so happy to hear about your 3 week vacation! An excellent time to recharge your battery, brother! Keep me posted! -Dave
Hey ! I have the same system ! trying it out tonight. I had a odd question for ya, Your gloves.... I think I have the same ones and I haven't been able to find them again, they are so warm for not being a big glove. Does your have the Deer skin palm? I'd love to be able to find them again so I can order a few pairs. thanks ! Nice video !
I bought mine nearly brand new. The guy I bought mine from on eBay sold it to me for $127 but he said he looked every where for the compression bag and couldn't find it so he refunded me $10. He looked every where but inn the box. It was in the box that he shipped it in to me. I offered the $10 back. He refused but thanked me for letting him know. I've bought a zipper closure fleece liner and a liner that's like a bed sheet material (Ozark Trail) for my MMSS. I figure that would keep me even warmer inside my set up. And I bought a nylon facemask with just the eye holes. So I can keep the bag dry. And I have a camp pillow from Ozark Trail as well. I'm trying to talk my lady into buying an MMSS as well. I bought a waterproof dry bag to put mine in as well so it stays try. They say also if you sleep in say a dry set of thermals with wool socks and some gloves you can survive to -50*F. I do appreciate the length measurement. I hadn't thought about measuring my bag until tonight. But it's in my vehicle (35F outside) I didn't want to go out to get it just to measure bag. I'm 6'5, which is about 77 inches. I was looking for measurements of bag earlier and couldn't find any. Definitely the added bonus to your video for us. Thank you very much...
Thanks a lot. This is very informative. Actually I just placed an order for this sleeping bag recently at Amazon and it should come to me (Japan) sooner or later. Your clean pronunciation of English also helped me a lot. Nice! ^^
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment! I am happy that I could help. I hope you get your MMSS relatively quickly and let me know how you like it, my friend! -Dave
I have the MSS but havent got to use it yet,i guess i am one of those that i want to go do all the bush crafting stuff that i watch on you tube but never get around to doing it, excuses excuses lol, one of these days i will get to it, still trying to get up all my gear and to have the right gear, good wool clothing is one of the things i lack ,i have thought about getting the first three layers of the new 7 layer military outfit, great video as always ,god bless
Thank you for watching, my friend, and I appreciate your kind words! You will get to it soon enough, as there is no hurry in life! You are going to love using this sleeping bag and I think you are developing an excellent gear collection! -Dave
I think it's warmer than the British 3 bag system. For Arctic sleeping a large bag fitting over the summer and fall bars would work to say 20 F. Me? I have a Western Mountaineering Megalite down 3 season 20 F. bag and an LL Bean -20 F. winter bag. Wearing extra clothing including down pants and light down jacket are good with either bag for another 15 F.lower temps. Remember, a double wall tent is goo for at least another 10 F. (with adequate ventilation, of course) TIP-> zip up your GTX shell and put it over the foot of yer bag for more warmth and to keep fros from the tent walls from melting into the foot of yer bag.. YOUR MATTRESS MUST BE ADEQUATE FOR THE TEMPERATURES. R3.5 FOR 3 SEASON, R5.8+ FOR WINTER. Learn what the R ratings mean for YOU. Everyone is different.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very kind, encouraging words! I really appreciate that, my friend and it's great to have you here! I look forward to talking with you again soon, Curtis! -Dave
I've got one of these and the black bag is a little too narrow for me, as I've got wide shoulders! I'm thinking of going back to my Browning wide 0° bag, but the Browning is a bit heavy for backpacking.
One thing not mentioned is that this system is heavy and takes up a ton of space in your backpack. It’s a bomb-proof system, don’t get me wrong, but it definitely has drawbacks compared to ultralight systems. Just food for thought.
I too have bought this sleep system and for the money with all it variations you can't beat it. Like you said it is HEAVY. However, if you know what parts of the bag to use and when it can be very versatile.
That is a great comment, Steve, and I couldn't have said it any better myself! Definitely heavy, but many variations and once you get to know the bag, it's highly versatile! Thank you for watching and please don't be a stranger, my friend! -Dave
A great video Dave, and a great item you show us. I have a different system. Mine is a. 1. GENUINE BRITISH ARMY SLEEPING BAG. 2. SLEEPING BAG COMPRESSION SACK. 3. DPM BIVVY BAG. Your system looks like it has a better range than mine. I always carry an extra light weight bag with me. In my experience it is a must to have as much below you as above you, I have always had more below me, the ground can suck the heat right out of you. You take care my friend Dave. Dave UK
Thank you for the kind words, Dave Your system sounds excellent! You are exactly right...the more below you, the better..the ground will do some serious damage! Nice to hear from you, brother! -Dave
Yes your right Dave, people do sometimes forget, the amount of heat the ground sucks from you. Mine I just put the cheap bag inside the Bivvy and put my main sleeping bad on top of the cheap sleeping bag, great as always chatting to you, Brother! -Dave
My system was the old down and feather bags with the waterproof base, foam mat and a poncho/tarp. Worked well and tactical. Gone soft these days with lightweight tent, bag and an R6 self inflating mat.
Good Review Dave, I really like my Military Modular Sleep System. My only issues is the zipping takes a bit to get it all zipped up.. I zip up a bit, rest. then zip the remaining part, but I get warmed up zipping it LOL AHHH I see you get in with it partial zipped! I climb in with it totally unzipped. Good tip! Thanks for showing how you set it up. Take care, Lee
Hi Lee, thank you for the kind words! Sometimes it does take some working zipping it all up..lol! Nice to hear from you, my friend, and say HI to the grandkids! -Dave
Yes it does! LOL I did not know if it was just my bags or if all the MMS took a bit to get them zipped up. I sure will, they are staying with us for a bit, my son (their Dad) was in a ATV accident. He ran into a clothesline while on his quad. It was more of a cable then a thin clothes lines. It gave him a very deep and wide cut on the neck down to his windpipe. He is so blessed to be ok......he was being watched out for sure!!! The kids are staying with us while he is in the hospital recovering, hopefully we can find sometime to watch a few bushcrafting video together. Take Care My Friend!
great review Dave ! great sleep system i only have one problem i am 6 ft tall and 250lbs and wish it was a little bigger so i could move around a little , i look like a mummy LOL ! other than that and the weight i love it ! atb john
Thank you fro the kind words, john! I appreciate you stopping by and leaving your awesome comment, my friend! The information you provided will be great for viewers, brother! -Dave
7 Years later and I still appreciate the info

I used this system in Norway in 1999. It was down to -30 F, and I was never cold.
What unit where you in
I bet this video has helped a Lot of people for over five years. Very good content, no fluff and straight to the point.
I have used mine for many years, bought three for my grandkids, and just gave mine to my sister so I get to buy a new one. @Clay Layne Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and im in the hacking process atm.
Takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Clay Layne It worked and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much you really help me out !
I've used mine in all 4 seasons for nearly 8 years. You did a great job of conveying just how modular this system is. Excellent review.
Got this bag from a buddy who was in the army over 10 years ago , still use it to this day . Great bag .
-Dave
I've had mine in the winter and it kept me nice and warm. Mine was issued to me when I was in the Air Force. I really like it

I've had mine down way past 0 degrees. I got an extra jungle bag with the foot box cut so it will fit my hammock. This thing is bulletproof.
Great information, my friend! Thank you for stopping by! -Dave
0 degres celsius or Fahreineit?

It IS heavy with all components - not something you're taking on a thru-hike!
got one of my own😊best bag system ive ever owned
Thank you, Jeff! That was an excellent video you uploaded! Nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
Probably the best sleep system for the money for sure. Pretty heavy though but still well worth the money! Great demonstration Dave!
You are exactly right, Dawn! Definitely far from ultra-light but well worth the money & weight! Thank you for watching, my friend! -Dave
I like how you made the video in the snow. Badass!
-Dave
I love this guy's energy
Thanks for the demo Dave! I love this system! I have used this system down to 8 deg.F in my hammock. Great video!
Hi Tom! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, my friend! Great information! Nice to hear from you, brother! -Dave
5to 8 degrees F is about the lower limit for this in my experience (wearing longjohns, wool socks, and a fleece cap).
So much I had to order it!
did you mean + 30 F or minus 30 F It works well at minus 30
Can not go wrong with the MMSS! I bought two for myself and my son from my local surplus store in Fresno,CA and got both brand new in the plastic bag for $180. So for anyone out there trying to get tough quality gear for a great price, please check out your local military surplus store! That's were I got my large Alice pack and my brand new CFP90 ruck sack. Loved the video buddy keep up the great work!
You are exactly right, Daniel! Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment! -Dave
Got mine used at a local army surplus store. Great guys and made sure it was all good before then even gave it too me
I have the black heavy bag and it is exceptionally warm. Handled temps down into 30s without any discomfort. It honestly to hot for me on most trips.
I've been goos in my hammock down to 14°F with the black bag and gortex shell. I wish Arkansas would get colder than that
Now cover sleeping in this system as your primary shelter in summer, during high humidity and temperature.
Definitely need ro.fomd a set, planning a DIY hunting trip to Colorado this year
I just got this system, I've seen several at gun shows, but never took the time to lay them out, and check them, finally one of my local surplus stores had one, I got for $225.00 in excellent shape, just wondering if I would need to do some touch up waterproofing., great video
I purchased a sleeping bag and liner from Wal-Mart for camping out in Winter and the packs are so thick until I attached them to the backpack. That tarp will be able to go into the backpack and is light and strong. That is a nice sleeping system you have there and it must be so very warm too.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Sidney! Sounds like an excellent system you have! -Dave
Nice additions, my friend! Thank you, very much, for stopping by! -Dave
been looking at these for a while now ...looks worth the investment, thanks Dave
Its a great investment and I think you would like it a lot, Mark! Thank you very much for stopping by and leaving your awesome comment, my friend! -Dave
I made a support to hold up the hood and it works great
I'll probe be looking for some woods to homeless camping thank God I ordered my own mss I should get it tomorrow
Can you believe I found this in the trash? Someone from my command just threw this out. Is there an instruction on how to stow it in the compression bag?
Thanks for showing the assembly of the system, I believe it is awesome. I like your style doing videos 👍
Best regards from germany Torsten ☺
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice, encouraging comment, Torsten! I appreciate you stopping by and please don't be a stranger! -Dave
been looking at a sleep system for a while and this has let me make my final decision. thanks as always for a great review and video! blessins Dave!
You are going to love it, my friend! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave
I have this but in winter I need a wool blanket and wool socks !
Great video. I really like your videos. Very user-friendly.
-Dave
I recently bought the MSS sleep system haven't had a chance to try however I appreciate your review.
You are going to love it, Thaddeus! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and leave your awesome comment! Let me know how it goes! -Dave
Dave,
The MMSS looks like a great year round sleeping system.
-Dave
Looks nice and comfy. Thanks for showing us how to set it up.
It's not bad, at all, my friend! Thank you for taking the time to stop by! -Dave
Just bought this 4pc system on offer up for 30 bucks deal of a lifetime
Damn, I could only find it for $110 I thought that was pretty good lol
@@garrett3055 Check pawn shops. Just picked up two near new sets for $25.00. Ended up getting two mummy pattern liners for $11.00 each to help keep them in good shape. Lots of USGI stuff turns up at pawn shops, and more often than not, they don't know what it is.
Great system and video. As most winter gear systems it's heavy for backpacking though. The older I get, the more I like light weight. lol
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your kind words! It's definitely not for ultra lite campers..haha! -Dave
I replaced that stuff sack with a Sea to Summit eVent compression dry sack. So much better and lighter.
I have actually heard of other guys doing that and it sounds like a great idea, especially because my stuff sack is the weakest part of my system. Thank you for watching and for the info, my friend! -Dave
finally pulled the trigger on one can't wait for it to get here.
Thats great, james! What were your first impressions? Have you been able to take it out yet? How are you liking it so far? Thank you for watching and keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
Just bought one almost new for 100 bucks , I'm happy. It's crazy awsome
Hey Kings Outdoors. Would you mind sharing where you found the system for such a great deal? Thanks!

When you use the bivy with your hammock, can you then do without an underquilt? Thanks, great presentation.
Font know how I missed this video David. Really helpful as usual :-)
-Dave
Nice video really enjoyed it ,question is the bottom of the bivvy bag Gore-Tex as well.
thinking I'm short and round ... but I'm putting together a layered idea sir!!! thanks again and blessings 😇😇😇
Nothing wrong with a DIY layered idea, sir! Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment!
-Dave
You convinced me to buy this bivvy, sir.
Wonderful system you have there. I am amazed at the great gear available to us. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Thank you, my friend! Nice to hear from you! -Dave
Your clean pronunciation of
English also helped me a lot. Nice!
-Dave
Thank You so much, this video was very helpful!
(with adequate ventilation, of course)
TIP-> zip up your GTX shell and put it over the foot of yer bag for more warmth and to keep fros from the tent walls from melting into the foot of yer bag.. YOUR MATTRESS MUST BE ADEQUATE FOR THE TEMPERATURES. R3.5 FOR 3 SEASON, R5.8+ FOR WINTER. Learn what the R ratings mean for YOU. Everyone is different.
Got mine brand new today, can't wait for the end of october to field test it in my overland expedition in the Utah's desert
@8:00 So that's what I've been doing wrong, I always went in head first! LOL
Thanks Dave. Once again a great video. You da dude! Keep them coming.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very kind, encouraging words! I really appreciate that, my friend and it's great to have you here! I look forward to talking with you again soon, Curtis! -Dave
I was hoping to see how the mmss gets packed into the compression bag, and attached to a rucksack.
Maybe in the next video I do on this sleeping bag, my friend! Thank you for watching! -Dave
I've got one of these and the black bag is a little too narrow for me, as I've got wide shoulders! I'm thinking of going back to my Browning wide 0° bag, but the Browning is a bit heavy for backpacking.
Very nice. Have a wonderful day Karla
Thank you for watching and leaving your nice comment, Karla! Nice to hear from you, my friend, and I wish you a wonderful day, as well! -Dave
One thing not mentioned is that this system is heavy and takes up a ton of space in your backpack.
It’s a bomb-proof system, don’t get me wrong, but it definitely has drawbacks compared to ultralight systems. Just food for thought.
Enjoyed the review
Informative, well covered, as usual, Dave
Thank you for the kind words, Frank! I really appreciate you stopping by, my friend! -Dave
-Dave
Hello Dave, very good sleep système and great review ! ;) I love your sleeping bag All-Season. Thanks for sharing my friend ;)
Hello, Didier! Very nice to hear from you! Thank you for watching and leaving your kind comment, my friend!
-Dave
davebuts Sounds great, my friend! -Dave
My system was the old down and feather bags with the waterproof base, foam mat and a poncho/tarp. Worked well and tactical. Gone soft these days with lightweight tent, bag and an R6 self inflating mat.
Even if you're on a folding cot you need an insulated pad below you or your butt will freeze as that cold air will suck the heat out of you as well.
Good Review Dave, I really like my Military Modular Sleep System. My only issues is the zipping takes a bit to get it all zipped up.. I zip up a bit, rest. then zip the remaining part, but I get warmed up zipping it LOL
AHHH I see you get in with it partial zipped!
Brand new US military MMSS is sold for $30 in Pakistan. It is worth it ❤️
Excellent sleep system. Thank Dave.
Thank you for watching, Wheels! Very nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
Smaller sleep pads can be put inside the bivi, so you don't roll off it.
great review Dave ! great sleep system i only have one problem i am 6 ft tall and 250lbs and wish it was a little bigger so i could move around a little , i look like a mummy LOL !
other than that and the weight i love it !
atb john
Thank you fro the kind words, john! I appreciate you stopping by and leaving your awesome comment, my friend! The information you provided will be great for viewers, brother! -Dave
