Death? Satan? Angel? The morrigan? Lilith? Heckate? Samel? Ext ext... Hard to see which one but I don't think you that's the point. Wait till the end of the series you'll love it. It's amazing and makes you REALLY THINK
The ending should leave you with a sense of moral clarity on humanity and their life choices. And a reflection on life and karma and our choices... I've watched this series too many times already 😂 more then 10... I've never seen anything like it.
In the original story "The Tell Tale Heart", a man murders an innocent man and buries him under the floorboards. He begins to hear the beating of the man's heart relentlessly until it drives him mad and he confesses to the police...having them pull up the floorboards revealing the victim's torn apart body.
It's probably the most haunting final line to me as well from Poe. “Villains!” I shrieked, “dissemble no more! I admit the deed! - tear up the planks! - here, here! - it is the beating of his hideous heart!” Just imagine someone saying this to you, holy moly
@@Anothy "GAAAAAAHHHH! It's the beating of that hideous heart!" Pretty much a lot of my knowledge on Poe as a kid is because The Simpsons tackled The Raven and Telltale Heart.
When Vic held the knife to Roderick's throat and said "I wish you would've just jumped, maybe then I wouldn't have to do this." I believe that was Verna speaking through her. How would Vic know that Roderick was just in his penthouse considering suicide? And this is the only death we see where Verna isn't present for it so it kinda makes sense.
I’m not sure that would track. Cause the deal is all the kids in the bloodline die before he does. Like his attempted overdose, Verna wouldn’t have let him die.
I absolutely love that people are being introduced to Poe’s other works, instead of just “The Raven.” Don’t get me wrong, “The Raven,” is a masterpiece, but his contributions to literature, and his other works are a masterpiece as well. What Mike Flanagan, and his team has done with the works of Shirley Jackson, and Henry James is just magnificent. He is a great interpreter- look what he did with “Dr. Sleep.” I hope, whichever streaming service he is moving on to, he has the same creative control he had with Netflix( I forget which platform? If someone knows, could you please remind me, lol).
Verna gives the kids an out before each one dies horribly, but none of them thus far have taken it. If taken, they would have probably just died in their sleep or something much more peaceful. Oh, they would still be dead but probably much better than acid showers, long falls, etc.

"The Tell-Tale Heart" is my favorite story by Edgar Allan Poe. I just realized that Camille's death was reminiscent of "The Murders in the Rue Morgue". Carla is killing it as Verna...literally 😂
The facility was called something like Rodrick Usher Experimentals - R.U.E, and they literally called it the RUE Morgue in the episode cause of all the dying monkeys^^
Prospero dies segregated away from the unworthy masses with his wealthy social climber "friends" just like his namesake from "The Masque of the Red Death".
All of the core characters in the show are part of a loose retelling of a Poe story. I think the only one that isn't is Tammie and Goldbug because Goldbug is a cryptograph/treasure hunt story, her story is more loosely taken from her name, Tamerlane, which is also another Poe story.
I first read it yearsss ago in class, I remember being in sixth grade just always thinking about people in the floor boards and in the walls. Same time I remember hearing about this older woman who was subletting their house and they would bury their tenants in the yard. Zoinks scoob
It‘s wild that they had to reshoot a bunch of this show because they had to recast Roderick kind of last minute, I can’t imagine this show without Bruce Greenwood, he is killing it as Roderick! I'll never get over Hannah. 💔😭😂 On a side note, after watching almost every Mike Flanagan series- the only one I haven't watched yet is "The Midnight Club," he always gives you a mind-blowing episode midway through. For example, The Bent Neck Lady episode from Hill House, The Altar of the Dead in the Bly Manor, Book V: The Gospel in Midnight Mass, etc. They usually fall around, or are, episode 5. I just find it fascinating.

I love all the little added details. Last episode Leo took Verna's picture with the cat and in the pic she's smiling in a well lit room with lots of other cats. But then in this episode we see the actual picture and she's unsmiling in a dark, empty room holding a rat. It's very cool.
This one is EASILY my favorite death reveal because, while I guessed the girlfriend was dead, since I know the story of the Tell-tale Heart, it's done so well and so creepily that the noise from the heart device in the open wound lived rent-free in my head all night after. And the performances this episode? AMAZING.

Honestly thought she deserved getting torn apart by chimps. But accidentally killing her gf and being tormented by guilt and grief before dying is pretty good too, you underestimate how awful psychological pain can be (But yeah also wish the chimps got to her at the end of it)
Oh she is not nearly as awful as Fredrick. She at least felt sorry briefly after she threw that rock and put the heart thing in her cause in her insanity she thought it would fix what she did. Fredrick on the other hand, felt no remorse for anything.

Though if she really did give him the rat, then his scratches were all real, and maybe that was the rat he found dead under his pillow.
This is the episode where I realized that, every time Roderick fails to take accountability for his own actions, one of his children's ghosts shows up to scare him straight.
I love that early August is the actor who played Finley from Reacher, and young Maddie is the actress who played Roscoe from Reacher. Happy to see them in more stuff!

So far this is my favorite episode of the season (watching it with you). We've seen people go insane in shows and movies before, but it's not often you see the exact moment when their mind snaps like an old rubber band. The tell tale heart is one of mt favorite and first stories I heard! I think what I loved most about it was the narrator had no gendered terms as well as the relationship to the old man was unknown making the story interesting with every interpretation of it.
Mike Flanagan's episode 5 are always the best and for me the most shocking, in Hill house The Bent-Neck Lady, Bly Manor The Altar of the Dead, Midnight Mass Book V: Gospel, and now this masterpiece

Something I've noticed in each episode is the small call backs to the other series (hill house, bly Manor ect) noone else seems to have noticed and talked about it! Eg. There are other things from the other episodes I noticed too.. anyone else? Can't just be me who's picking up on it.
Me too. Other call backs I've noticed 'she lies' reminds me of THOHH episode 9 'she lies that one... Poppy'. Also leo when he said 'DENIAL' reminds me of episode 5 of THOBM when he uses the same word with Hannah. So far these are the things I've picked up on so far.. is it the same for you?
@rayeneboumerdas yes exactly the same for me too. I think with this being the last series Mike Flanagan is doing with Netflix maybe it's a kind of homage to all at the series he's done. So glad I wasn't the only one who noticed this, thought I was over thinking it all because noone has brought it up when reacting to it.
@@kleigh1639 I think the reason for that ( at least for me) is the fact that I've watched dozens of reaction videos to THOHH and THOBM ( especially THOHH because it's my fav). So basically I memorized them lol that's why I picked up on these little references quite quickly. While for the reactors they've probably watched them once or twice
@rayeneboumerdas I must admit I've watched many hill house and bly Manor reactions too so you make an excellent point. Glad someone's on the same wave length and binge watches reactions like me too.

I don't think Rodrik is a misogynist, I think he's a misanthrope who like sex allot. Unless he lied to the women he slept with we have no reason to think they weren't complicit with what appears to be a lot of one night stands. As for not talking to the mothers at the funeral, something tells me that wasn't a woman thing but an up his own butt thing. But had he been tempted to become a misogynist Maddie would have beat that right out of him.
I'm loving your reactions and comments on this series!! I would just like to mention that after I watched this series and read some posts, the 7 deadly sins are woven into this as well. Perry- Lust, Camille-Envy, Leo- Sloth, Vic- Pride. Rod and Mad obviously Greed. That leaves Gluttony and Wrath. Can't wait for your next reactions!!
Hey Nikki and Steven, you want to know where the good is? It's the woman that you think is death that I think is actually the devil. She's getting rid of all these bad people.
I was expecting a more faithful adaptation, with the police interview and the guilt and paranoia, but this was so much better for the overarching narrative. Roderick had to witness everything for it to work
I found the story to be predictable. I had a feeling the informant thing was just something the lawyer said to put them against eachother from the opening. Also, I think there is something more to that nightshade stuff. It wasn't just any drug that made Leo trip out over the cat. What is with the step mom taking it all the time?
the nightshade and the drug the stepmom is taking are two different things--nightshade is a poison that paralyzes you, and ligodone is the drug the usher family makes & that the stepmom takes for her pain. also, leo was tripping over the cat not solely bc he was taking drugs but bc verna was messing with his mind.

She also said "I can fix it". Yes, a lot of callbacks in his shows.
The comparison Verna keeps giving to predators is a comparison that Verna is a predator to the Ushers and humanity in general.
That woman that keeps popping up for each Usher death is Verna aka the Raven aka Death
One of my fav poe stories and it was d executed perfectly
Been a big fan of your channel since I discovered your Red Wedding reaction (ie. many years ago).
I think you both would be really great reviewers (and enjoyers) of One Piece.
Look forward to seeing your reactions.
I was terrified too when I realized Vic tried to relive her girlfriend with that tool
The HORROR that they CREATE for THEMSELVES. THE HORROR, THE HORROR
Each episode title is an Edgar Allan Poe title. And a hint to how each kid dies.
Starting off the video getting jumpscared by Steven 🤣
I found this the most disturbing death. She was really nasty hurting those poor chimps knowing her heart mesh was BS
If y’all haven’t seen Midnight Mass you should check it out. It’s Mike Flanagan magnum opus and has a lot of this cast
They've seen almost all the Flanaverse shows except the midnight club.
The Cask of Amontillado
Great reaction as usual!
I have a theory about who he's talking to when he's talking to the wall and the symbolism of the wall.
Yay finally i was waiting for your reaction love you guys ❤
Can anyone tell me what song she was listening too when she was trying to drown out that sound?
I'm loving your reactions and comments on this series!! I would just like to mention that after I watched this series and read some posts, the 7 deadly sins are woven into this as well. Perry- Lust, Camille-Envy, Leo- Sloth, Vic- Pride. Rod and Mad obviously Greed. That leaves Gluttony and Wrath. Can't wait for your next reactions!!
You are right, this series is absolutely brutal. It is hard to enjoy because there are no sympathetic characters. But then again, it is sooooo good.
💖💖 great reaction 💖💖
Just curious! When is the reaction to SOA Season 5 episode 4 coming out?
I hope you guys are recovering after finishing up SOA season 6.
I actually read this short story in middle school
I don’t know why y’all gaging, she bring it to you every time 🤷♀️
LULU TOWN !! 🤣😂🤣😂
I’m dead 💀
AND THE BASTARDS ARE GONE LOL now 2 left oop-
Verna is the raven, more like consequences
Hey Nikki and Steven, you want to know where the good is? It's the woman that you think is death that I think is actually the devil. She's getting rid of all these bad people.
i loooove ur reactions
TAMERLANE:..."FITNESS F*CKERS"...
Bruce Greenwood did an amazing job, he's a phenominal actor, but i can't help but imagine Bryan Cranston playing this role instead.
Nikki, astute as always
Laura Roslin will always be my president ❤ Mary McDonnell is a fucking goddess who elevates every scene she's in.
Edgar Allen Poe rocks 😊
Beautiful sharing Vidio 🇮🇩🌸🌼👍
Love from Swidnica, Poland! 😊
Did you catch the fact that the picture from Leo's phone wasn't a cat? Some kind of rodent, and the hair and clothes were different.
she made a deal with death. then sealed it with a kiss
Hi
This episode and the finale are my absolute favorites! Masterful tie ins with Poe’s works
I was expecting a more faithful adaptation, with the police interview and the guilt and paranoia, but this was so much better for the overarching narrative. Roderick had to witness everything for it to work
ohhhhhhh its gonna get way worse
Even though your Wisconsin nasal voice is soooo annoying, I Love your reactions. ❤
I feel like the gatsby costumes could have more meaning and they hit someone with a car that night. My guess is his boss or his wife.
