In witchcraft lore, black fingers usually means that a witch is using dark magic or forbidden one. It actually is a detail that movies and shows used for years already. When you see a witch with black fingers you better run lol
Side note: incase you didn’t know this, John Krasinski has been fancast as Reed Richards for YEARS now. Due to a combination of him looking a lot like some iterations of Reed Richards (mainly when he has a beard) and the fact that he and Emily Blunt are married, and people wanted/want to see the two play Reed and Sue together because of that chemistry

Whether Krasinski should return as Reed or not is certainly up for debate. But man I disagree about not wanting to see the F4 at all. The MCU NEEDS, and I mean NEEDS the Fantastic 4. They are wayyyyy too important to Marvel’s history to not flesh out over the next decade of the MCU

Rimos Abysswalker Me too man! Doom is my favorite Marvel character of all time along with Daredevil, so it’s an understatement when I say I’m so excited for him and hope he’s done right lol. While I have no doubt Kang will be a big villain, potentially more of a threat than Thanos, I believe Kang is a stepping stone/bridge to Doom like Loki was to Thanos. If they truly adapt Secret Wars, Doom is THE guy long term

The vendor spelled to hit himself was Bruce Campbell, and this was a callback to the Evil Dead movies (where Raimi got his start) where Bruce's hand got possessed and attacked him. Bruce also had small cameos in all of Raimi's Spider-Man movies.

Dr Strange is still learning to shed all his ego, that he had before his accident. Nobody goes from narcissism to humility over night.
One thing to note: when the Scarlet Witch first appears in Billy and Tommy's living room they scream out "It's THE witch!" not "it's A witch" which suggests that they had been having enough nightmares of this Scarlet Witch to singularly define it.

I really love that Sam Raimi did this one... Something the MCU really hasn't captured until this film is just how goofy and crazy the old Marvel comics were.... Especially Dr. Strange... where it being bombastic and campy really fits the comics.

My favorite part was when all the confusion went away as soon as she saw who directed it. I like that they gave Raimi as much leeway as they did, even if it does sorta distance the movie tonally from the rest of the MCU overall.
Raimi is not the best director but at least he always drags the movies back towards the comics. He is honestly a bad director though

He wasn't texting and driving. No, no. Texting and driving seems almost safe, when compared to what he was doing. He was driving on winding mountain roads, in the rain, over 100mph, and looking at like a full on computer screen.

"Who directed this movie?!" Exactly what I love about it. It is the rare marvel movie where it feels like a director got to infuse the movie with style.
i think when sam told the marvel execs, he plans to make the multiverse of madness feel connected to his older movies they thought of his old spiderman movies; but they got the evil dead trilogy instead 😀

I love the parallels between Wanda and Strange. For both of them, kids saved them. Wanda was her own kids that brought her back from the edge... while Steven had both Peter and America.
We all have that inner child that’s been silenced due to years of trauma and adulting. sometimes it takes a kid to awaken our own inner child

I envy the way Natalie manages to avoid spoilers before seeing the movie. By the time I saw this Dr Strange film, one way or another I had had 90% of the plot spoilt.
P.S The "campaign" posters in this were hilarious.

I also cried for wanda when her kids scared of her and telling she's monster. Like it actually my first time crying at the cinema and I am the person that hardly cry. Like I really connect to Wanda character since Wanda's Vision and Elizabeth Olsen is amazing

I’ve always really loved Strange as a character, but this movie contextualizes his control freak tendencies in a way that makes him feel much more human and vulnerable. His need to control things stems from his deep unhappiness, and it’s only when he admits that unhappiness is there that he’s able to take steps to being a less emotionally isolated person.
also stems from early in his life he wasnt able to save his sister's life and she died, for sure is the reason he needs to be in charge at all times and why is ego gets so big

You liked this Stephen Strange because he was the only one not willing to kill a kid for the greater good, but he's only like that because of the Spider-Man incident. At that time he said "their sacrifice means nothing in the grand calculus of the multiverse" but Spider-Man taught him that one's fate isn't sealed, destiny can be changed, and that everyone CAN be saved
This Dr Strange grew as a hero because he followed the best example of a hero
Wanda was an ANIMAL in this, one of my favorite movie theater experiences ever.
I went in hoping this would be Sam Raimi leaning heavily into his horror roots so I was more than satisfied that this felt more like a spiritual Evil Dead film (especially Bruce Campbell basically playing an Ash Williams variant that works as a street vendor instead of an S-Mart employee) rather than a spiritual Spider-Man movie.
Of course I wish they did more with the Fantastic Four and X-Men guest stars but I think Raimi remembers how comic book Easter Eggs used to work and kept them as fun (until Wanda got to them) cameos
I do recommend anyone that hasn’t seen the Evil Dead movies to do so
Yeah, original director wanted to more horror and the asked him to step down because of it. Sam Raimi is an ultimate director for hire - he does whatever studio says, so he did PG version of horror :(
People don't like to hear it, but from the moment he was announced I was sad because by previous films I suspected it will be that way and not done very well - Raimi doesn't care for verisimilitude in the story too much, it's all about hitting story and emotional beats and doing whatever to stitch them together, which is what we've got. It's competent filmaking, but not good in my opinion, too shallow.

Plus I wasn’t too keen on Sam Raimi he just came out of nowhere and people immediately went this is gonna be the best MCU movie ever. I would’ve rather seen Scott getting to continue his vision and watch a movie that’s actually a Doctor Strange movie.
Yeah, i was *thoroughly* charmed by the Raimi-ness of the film. It has plenty of flaws, but it was very easy to overlook them due to how entertaining the movie was. And how different it was from all other Marvel films.

I think this came out at the perfect time. More than a Halloween movie its essentially a mothers tragedy. This came out on Mother's Day weekend and the acronym for Multiverse Of Madness is literally MOM
Remember that before the accident that set him on the quest for Kamartaj Stephan Strange was a neurosurgeon, and there are few vocations that crank a tendency to narcissism up to eleven more than that one. It is a testament to Steven Strange's character that he is not even more of a narcissist than he is, given his time as Sorceror Supreme. Also, in the denouement, Stephan repairing the watch demonstrates that he once again has the fine control of his hands necessary for neurosurgery.
The moment where our Strange dreamwalked into his dead version was my favorite part of the movie. A cape of demon damned souls while youre in your dead self is just such an awesome concept. The movie to me, was good but I do think some things could've been better and on the rewatch, I like it more than I did. And they made America a really cool character.
Seeing this moment in theatres was so cool! It was such cool design and just made me like Dr.Strange even more!
Although I agree that this movie, as the first real horror movie of the MCU would have been great around Halloween, it also came out in theatres at a very "appropriate" time: Mother's Day

I have just rewatched the movie, and i dont think i got it the first time. This time i loved it. The mixture of superhero and a little bit of horror, worls really well. Bit i also think its because they chose the right director, who could do that, and still keep the humour intact. Also Elisabeth Olsen, i mean… Everytime i have seen something she is in, it makes me long for the next thing. Not just Marvel bit also other things. She is really impressive as an actress.
A lot of people fret because it could have been a better film. Certainly, as the first real multiverse film it could have showcased that better, as doctor strange movie, it could have had more of him, and as a scarlet witch movie, it could have cast her into a more subtle roll (I, for one, would have loved for her to slowly be pushed to evil, not to just go strait to 11) However, for doing it all, it was still an enjoyable movie that probably sits as one of the best from phase 4. I'd put it above some movies marvel put out prephase 4. Too many people just got so embittered by the MCU and Disney lately they look for any reason to slam something.
FYI it wasn't really Strange's fault the spell went wrong in No Way Home. That spell should never have that effect, and would never have that effect if Loki didn't break the timeline. Strange is completely taken by suprise because the memory spell shouldn't be able to break the universe.
True, but strange could have taken a few minutes to explain how the spell would operate and it would have avoided most of the trouble in No Way Home. Instead he's all like "OMG! McDonalds is about to stop serving breakfast, so we's speedrunnin' this."

But the point is that it WOULDNT have happened like that, BUT with Loki breaking the Sacred Timeline, the spell DID end up going Multiversal. So Strange didn't KNOW that would happen, until AFTER the fact. How can he tell Peter what he doesn't know?

I'm saying he could have spent a few minutes to explain that everyone would forget Spider-Man's true identity and then Peter could have asked that those closest to him not be impacted. This movie would be analogous to Army of Darkness in tone and mix of genre. The psychedelic comics of Steve Ditko and the direction style of Sam Rami are a great match.
Army of Darkness was not a great film. If he'd kept this more in Line with Evil Dead 1 rather than delving into Evil Dead 2 & 3, it would have been so much better

The Bruce hitting himself thing is a tie back to the Evil Dead movies. Where Bruce was told to hit himself harder to sell shots, or people hitting him and Sam being "Hit him harder, he can take it" and them having to do like fifteen continuous reshoots of Bruce being hit. So yeah. So him going it's over at the end is a little nod to Bruce's work with sam

Bruce Campbell cameo's in most of Raimi's films, if not outright starring(he was Ash in the "Evil Dead"series, appeared in all three Raimi films(including as the only person to ever defeat Raimi Spider-Man, the Snooty Usher.)

This entire movie is literally a nod to Evil Dead and Sam's work with Bruce lol..
The Bruce Campbell scene with him punching himself is a nod to an Evil Dead scene where he lost control of his hand, also directed by Sam Raimi. It was a campy movie, but it was fun as hell. One criticism with the story is if Wanda could have found a universe where her doppleganger wasn't available (dead or in jail) and could get her kids then.
I personally loved this movie. I loved that Raimi got to be Raimi. The MCU can feel stylistically bland a lot of the time, so I appreciated them loosening their grip on him. I do hope that’s a trend that sticks with future smaller directors, but we’ll see.
I also really loved that it was short at just over 2hrs. Every major blockbuster is 2.5+hrs these days, so to have one on the fairly short side was a nice change of pace.
Honestly, I kinda see what some people don't like about this movie, but at the same time, I kinda don't. I saw this in theatres 3 times and loved every second of it, it was actually the only time I went to see a movie in the theatre more than once. I absolutely loved the horror aspect, and I loved the soundtrack. Also, a few of the main themes of the movie really spoke to me at the time. Just my opinion on the movie tho.

@@TheMick7823 Personally, I prefer his "Xena the Warrior Princess cheese" more than his "Evil Dead cheese". Matter of taste, of course, but I was wishing a bit more of the former over the latter from this film.

Originally this was supposed to come out before No Way Home, and Strange’s stupid decisions in the movie make more sense in the context of him being corrupted by the Darkhold. I also heard America was originally going to bring the other Spider-Men into the MCU, which also makes a lot more sense than how they showed up in the movie we got.

She also would be the one who performed the spell of forgetting for Peter One, and she would goof it up due to her relative inexperience, unlike Strange who simply didn't have five extra minutes, a whiteboard, and the patience to explain to Peter One how the spell would operate.

I think Nightmare was supposed to be the villain in this movie, though Mordo was teased in Dr. Strange to be the next villain, and yet somehow Wanda is the villain. I'm fine with her being corrupted by the Darkhold, but they don't show it happening, and you could do a whole movie about corruption. They threw Wanda under the bus, and phrases like "little witch" sound a bit sexist.
@@The_Devil_Breaker_ Because they needed to make money and none of the other movies made money. Black Widow, Shang Chi, and The Eternals all underperformed. Spider-man is the biggest draw in terms of comic book characters besides Batman. Executives were like, if we do this. We will make money.
With regards to Wanda, it's worth keeping in mind that when it comes to comics and Marvel especially, death is often complicated and very rarely final.
That and Lizzy signed a long term MCU contract extension recently.

For movies as well, death can often be complicated and rarely final. Especially for a character like wanda. No body = No death.

The Illuminati is definitely where the movie loses the non comic book reading audience. It’s the first time I’ve seen this kind of incredulous reaction from other people I’ve watched.
Whacky is definitely an apt descriptor for the editing style in this movie, since it’s Directed by Sam Raimi of Evil Dead fame.

Glad you "let go" and went along for the ride. I love Wanda so much that I was a little put-off at first with her character's arc. But when you think about the whole Darkhold thing, it kind of makes sense. I think we can all agree Wanda didn't ACTUALLY die, so I'm looking forward to what comes next with her character. The Zombie Strange thing was pure hilarity and fun. Loved it. Elizabeth Olsen is a treasure.
I LOOOOVE how they made the alternate universe Xavier a lot like the original cartoon show and comics, right down to the goofy telepathy circles coming out his forehead lol. That was a nice little nostalgia trip, 'cause I always loved the cartoons.

Raimi is definitely a master of preserving that early 2000s vibe with some of the editing choices. It's cool Marvel let him get a little crazy but some of it's jarring for sure. And while the movie had some awesome moments some of the campiness brought me out of it completely, like charlize theron completely phoning it in during the post credits
It’s less that he’s preserving the early 2000s style than he’s been preserving the style of retro horror through all of his movies, even in his superhero movies. Even the Spider-Man movies were more stylistically with old school flavor than other 2000s superhero movies

Sure, but anybody going in expecting Raimi to have done differently were only fooling themselves. Raimi wouldn't have signed on if they didn't let him put his style in it.
The mere fact that you can recognize the different style in the movie is proof that it is leagues ahead of anything the MCU has put out stylistically thus far. Most of the other movies have a pretty diluted, formulaic style and this movie does something interesting which adds another layer of enjoyment to the movie.

A lot hated this movie but this was a good movie. May not be the best but definitely an experience.
An alternate opening scene, that was deleted, would've revealed Wanda to be the villain even faster than what is in the actual movie.
Mordo comes to kill Wanda for her abuse of the Darkhold and she just... beheads him.
It started great, but about half way it turned into a straight up comedy, could not stop laughing at some of the later scenes (wink wink). Just feels like a rehash of Wanda's "character development" at this point she has become a villain about 3 times and I am over it.

I love how the Eye Monster at the beginning was created from a hi-res scan of Wanda's eye...details that no one would notice but help the story.
Wanda's goal was pretty similar to Kingpin's ambitions in Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse. He too wanted his family back, but it would be at the expense of the multiverse.
My favorite part was hearing the reorchestrated opening track to X-Men: The Animated Series when Charles arrived. The subtitles marked it as the Theme of X-Men '97. I also liked hearing the little callback to Days of Future Past.
X-Men '97 is the upcoming reboot/sixth season of the original X-Men 90's cartoon. Most of the original voice cast is returning.
A Fantastic Four film is in development now. Until recently, MCU Spider-Man director Jon Watts was supposed to direct this new film. Instead, he'll be taking a sabbatical from superhero films until it's time to work on the fourth Spider-Man film. In the meantime, he's also gonna work on a Star Wars project.
Speaking of Spider-Man, they're gonna bring No Way Home back to theaters this September. This time, it'll be an extended cut known as the More Fun Stuff Version.
Black Bolt is from the Inhumans show that unfortunately didn't do so well, but words like inhuman and terrigen are all the more reason you should watch Marvel's Agents of SHIELD at least during your free time.

When I watched this in theater I too didn't know who directed it! I kept thinking "Oh my, I'm very curious who directed and wrote this, it must be a great filmmaker". Then it all made sense XD

With Dr.Strange as my favorite character, I totally understand your take on his personality and decisions. I think it adds to the complexity of his character and is part of the reason I've never been a huge fan of Tony Stark. Their arrogance is frustrating, but they make such rash & absolute decisions based on the fact that no one comes close to their skill level and so they feel no one can tell them anything.
However, it makes it more gratifying when they are eventually humbled and with all their ego, money, & powers, they always seem to struggle to find true happiness.
PS: also why Dr.Doom is my favorite villain.. Can't wait until you get to meet him😊

I think she's dead but there are an infinite number of Wandas so some version of her will be back in the MCU

I really don't think she's dead... do you really think marvel will let go a character that has such a massive fan base? Wanda is a character that has gained so much love for lots of people. She's my favorite character. I think they will be really stupid if they just killed her like that. Also it would be so good if they finally make her solo movie 🙌🏻😊

"Made to be in 3-D?".....we saw it in "Real 3D" in the theater and it was...yeah, AMAZING in that format.
One thing a lot of people do when they see John Krasinski in this is say oh look it's Jim from the office! When I see him I can't think of anyone other than Jim from the office!
The kind of casting thought for the MCU Fantastic 4 is John Krasinski and Emily Blunt as Reed and Sue Richards with Jason Siegel as the Thing. And then they would also be in the creative chairs as director and writer's respectively.
But everybody keeps going oh look it's Jim from the Office!!
I think Sam Raimi uses cinematic styles in the same way a film soundtrack might use character themes - When the Scarlet Witch is on-screen, Raimi uses jump scares and foreboding imagery, when Strange is being heroic, he uses the Marvel action style, when serious character change moments occur, he's very intimate and serious, etc. Raimi does this in the Spider Man films too.
I suggest reacting to viral indie _Everything Everywhere All at Once_ after this. Multiverse of Madness has nothing on EEAO when it comes to sheer bonkers-ness, and it's my favorite movie of the past few years. (I don't want to get too much into what it's about, better to keep it a surprise.) You'd never guess it was made with a $25 million budget, and I'd be shocked if it wasn't up for some Oscars like film editing and director, and perhaps some best actor awards.
That style of editing is definitely a Sam Raimi staple. If you ever watch his other films, heck even the his spiderman films, you start to notice some of his goofier edits.
I know I'm watching a good video when I glance down to "like" it several times in the course of one video, only to find that I already have.
I also went into this movie without knowing the director and throughout the whole movie I was thinking "these special effects remind me of Evil Dead", so I was very satisfied when they showed the name of the director at the end, he really did a great job at making it feel like a Sam Raimi movie.
Strange and Wanda are my favorite characters in the MCU, I'm absolutely obsessed with both of them so this movie was PERFECTION for me ahahaha, Sam Raimi directing it was great for Stephen's character, and his weird and crazy magic style (in my opinion). But yeah I totally get your take on Strange's character, he is a complicated one, but that makes little moments like his love for Christine, or how much he cares about America and even Peter, so beautiful...
In Iron Man 2. There was an app on Tony Stark's phone, that we get a quick look at during his Senate trial, that has the comics Illuminati symbol on it. Hinting that perhaps Tony was in the Illuminati at some point.
Or it was just a cool Easter Egg for comic fans to notice.

It was Peter who ruined the spell
Dr. Strange wanted to kill the villains.
It was also Peter who decided to try save them which led to his aunt dying and Norman destroying Strange's box.
I can totally understand why some people wouldn’t like this movie, it’s VEEERY bold stylistically in a way that feels separate from the rest of the MCU, and it can feel pretty fast/cheesy. But that’s exactly what I personally wanted from a SAM RAIMI Dr. Strange flick, I love this!

I loved Sam Raimi's style and direction. It felt like a breath of fresh air compared to the often stale and lifeless direction in a lot of these movies. The script left a lot to be desired though.
The Sam Rami style parts where the only thing I liked about this movie. Everything else, was pretty weak. I like Cumberbatch and Liz Olsen. But the story is paper thin, and the movie itself is way too long. It’s 2 hours and 45 mins, but it feels like a 4 hour movie. My biggest concern is what this means for the rest of MCU. Now that the multiverse is a thing, it seems like people are satisfied with just stuff being thrown at the screen. And don’t care much about the story. This started happening with No Way Home. That a movie I generally liked, but it proved to Marvel that they can get away with substandard story telling, as long as a favorite version of a character makes an appearance.
Like other people have said, the Sam Raimi flavor is what I enjoyed most about it. The script was pretty dull. It also kindof retconned the end of WandaVision, with the explanation of "The Darkholme did it", without actually explaining what it is, other than "book that makes you evil, for some reason"
I loved the style, I just don't like how they handled Wanda's end.

My theory is that it is always the Sorcerer Supreme who is advocating for America to be sacrificed in every universe, and since Stephen Strange is not the Sorcerer Supreme in this universe, he realized there was another way, and that America did not need to die. Notice that in Stephen’s universe, Wong was the one who advocated for America to be sacrificed.
I don't think I can say this loud enough, you need to watch the Evil Dead trilogy. The third film, Army of Darkness has a lot of the same themes and styles that you have in this film. Sam's style worked so well in this setting. I guess if you had seen those films having Bruce Campbell, Pizza Poppa, appear in this would have brought you joy as he did in the Spiderman trilogy. That coupled with Danny Elfman's musical score was a bright spot as well. At least you can relax and sleep easy knowing that Wanda is still alive. I hope that's not a spoiler for you though.
Darkman always gets overlooked Liam Neeson in a Sam Raimi film. Awesome.
@@richwagener Darkman is another great Sam Raimi film. Bruce's cameo was but for an hot second at the end of it. Quick & The Dead is another Raimi classic that needs more love!!

I was REALLY bummed to see Wanda’s downfall, but I respect the choices they made. She is a character who has been for her whole life abused and exploited by others - Stark Industries, HYDRA, Ultron, Thanos (indirectly), SWORD, and even Agatha Harkness. To see the end was really heartbreaking, and I agree on Elizabeth Olsen’s MasterClass characterization of Wanda.
Also, I hope that it may have softened your opinion on Dr Strange the character - to see all the other “ multiversal Stranges, “ and how far so many of them fell, even Defender Strange. He was the only one (Wong included!) who was not wanting to take America’s power for themselves, and give up on her, but encouraged her to fight for herself. Once we also see the Dr. Strange from What If… Our Stephen Strange is, quite literally, the best Dr. Strange in the Multiverse. 😃
