If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. Great Video Alina. So many people come to Thailand and head straight out of Bangkok. Not many people take the time to stay and explore the city and some of its beautiful sights. The Temples and Wats are incredible but so are the malls, many are nicer than most back here in Canada!. Glad you got to spend some time in BKK and shared some special moments with us. The riverside views were amazing but I am looking forward to see your adventures, as you head south to the Islands and beaches!! Enjoy, stay safe!

Hi Alina! Another well-crafted video with beautiful visuals, appropriately-fitting music selections, and amazing content! I thoroughly enjoyed your visit to Bangkok’s must-see attractions, especially Lumphini Park on (or near) the occasion of Earth Day! I’m so glad that you were able to capture close-up video of the handsome lizard in his lovely home environment!

Wow Alina...my most sencere thank you for putting together this great video. It was an outstanding job. You are indeed an accomplished artist. A MASTER of your own craft. The footage from the Wat Arun Buddhist temple in site and across the river was mind blowing!!! The "Two different worlds" song that played along the drone footage was fantastic. Your interaction with that lucky lizard was priceless. What an adventure!! Bangkok is a great city and you Alina as always oozing so much beauty, elegance, class & sophistication. Have great weekend, live life to the fullest and stay safe.

We have large lizards along the beach here in south Florida, but they tend to be very shy and it is hard to photograph them. I think that you were very lucky and skillful to get those two giant lizards to sit still for you.

One thing I always admire about your videos is your ability to show us something new. I had never heard of Lumphini Park and the monitor lizards living there during my two trips to Bangkok. The same goes for the malls. Fantastic work once again and great job finding and filming those monitor lizards. I think the last guy at 6:18 was posing for the camera rather than warning you :D

Lumphini Park and the Wat Arun Temple stood out in the video. The monitor lizards in the park are too big to be kept as pets but some of the smaller species can fare well in a home setting.
Thailand has many treasures and more of them are waiting to be shared in the future. Have a good weekend and stay safe!

Alina, I don’t know where you are in “the islands” but if you’re on the Andaman Sea (west coast), take a snorkeling trip to Koh Rok, where there are much larger monitor lizards hanging around the area where the day-trippers eat lunch. They schmooze with the tourists for handouts (along with a tribe of cats).
The cinema on the top floor of Central Embassy mall, Embassy Diplomat, is a super-luxury movie house where you see movies lounging cuddled together on sofas or sink into deluxe chairs, quaffing free beer and soft drinks from a small fridge under the seat. The lobby has free all-you-can-eat canapés, pastries and drinks that you can fill up on before going in to the movie. This costs of course, but it’s worth experiencing at least once.
If you like Bangkok’s malls, you must experience IconSiam which is on the river near where you were staying. It’s a completely over-the-top super-luxury mall which even has a traditional floating market as a food court in the basement.
My favourite cheap excursion is to take a Chao Phraya Express orange-flag boat from Sathorn Central Pier (Saphan Taksin) to its terminus in Nonthaburi for 15 baht. This cuts through a whole sweep of Bangkok riverine life from the magnificent temples and Grand Palace to riverside industries and slums. In Nonthaburi, you can have lunch in the floating restaurant downriver from the pier.
For a day-trip that’s going to disappear fairly soon, take the old rattly train from Wong Wian Yai station to Mahachai (aka Samut Sakhon). The 10 baht trip takes one hour through the urban sprawl, then cute little villages in the forest, and then directly into the market in Mahachai (they have to move some of the market stands off the tracks). Mahachai is Thailand’s largest fishing port and you can have a cheap lunch from fresh seafood at the restaurant above the port. This old-fashioned train line is going to be replaced soonish by an ultra-modern commuter line.

My last trip to Bangkok, I think I visited Lumphini park at least 3 times. That first monitor lizard you saw, I think is the average that I saw when I went. I did see one or two that were much larger. And I for sure am a mall person. I love shopping malls. I may not be buying anything, but I just love spending time there, and walk around see what's there. And the food courts they have sure beat out the wetzel pretzel stands we have here (I do love there pretzels and cheese). I didn't get to go up Wat Arun on my last trip. They were doing some restorative work, so it was blocked off.

Great video Alina. Absolutely love the drone shots and the editing, bring me so much warm memories and moments from beatiful and vibrant Bangkok. I personally like EmQuartier in terms of shoping and atmosphere. There used to be like a rainforest section and waterfall if I remember correct and the food court have very affordable restaurants with great view of the city, kind of rooftop feeling - especially at night. Great video.

You have shown some great footage these recent videos. I’ve seen lots of videos of Thai food-which I love-but mostly the only other things people video are Thai girls and bars. You are the only one I have seen that has shot lizards and they were cool-and free. And you are the only one that has shown the flower market and the temple and the mall were both cool also.

Well another very interesting tour. I really like how you integrate what I assume is commercial drone footage with your own footage. You edit them seamlessly and it creates extremely strong visuals. I really enjoyed your comments about the monitor lizard hunt. " They are not usually dangerous to humans. I wonder how fast they can move. Let's get close to get a good picture. Oh, you have such a handsome neck and head. I should probably have learned if this action is some sort of warning or just showing interest." People say the same about bears and bison's back in Canada. Some always get too close, but hey they get great visuals. Anyway stay safe and enjoy your journey but remember usually safe for people to get somewhat close doesn't mean always safe, and they can always move quicker than you think they can.

    • @AlinaMcleod
      @AlinaMcleod  3 роки тому +3

As a Thai, I hope you don't miss out Chiang Mai. It's even better than those islands, in southern part. It's a Zen vibe sort of city. Rich culture, Tons of ancient "Wat" (temple). My favorite temple in Chiang Mai is "Wat U Mong Mahathera Chan". However, you can search for "15 best Chiang Mai temple, and pick the one you like to visit...Most important thing to remember, If you visit Chiang Mai, google this word before you go >> "Samoeng Loop". Basically, it's a route that take you around "Doi Inthanon National Forest". There tons of attractions along this route; e.g, waterfalls, mountain cafe those have a looked over view from the cliffs, restaurant on bamboo rafted in the stream, etc...... Most visitors tend to roaming around in the old city of Chiang Mai; therefore, they tend to miss out what I've just mentioned. The only thing is, you'll need a car or motorbike.

You are referring to VERANUS, it is a water lizard in the monitor lizard family. It has claws the size of your index finger, some toxins in its bite and can use its tail like a bullwhip. I saw a 2.5 meter veranus last time I was on Hong Island. The purple tongue color surprises most people. They can move faster than you expect, other monitors chase deer.

I haven't been to Bangkok before, but know how interesting lizards are. I was living on an agricultural farm, in rural Miami, until recently. It was like living in a zoo, with so many different types of animals, all around, and on surrounding farms. And the most interesting, were the lizards !, 2nd, were horses. Even the small lizards, would jump on me, and on top of things I was moving around. There are huge lizards also, tho I never saw one, where I lived. They are different varieties, that they have in Bangkok, not so fierce looking.

Awesome video especially from the drone over Wat Arun. I was there in Dec 2019 and I didn't know that Wat Arun is by the Chao Phraya River

Lamphini Park had Monitor Lizards?? This is the first I ever seen of that. Bangkok is a shoppers paradise. I can throw you another mall Mega Bangna which you can catch a free shuttle bus on Udom Suk BTS station.

Yes, Lumpini has those Amazing Lizards. Nobody hurts them. In other Asian cities they’d kill those lizards or catch them.

@@miketzai9209 I have been to the Lumphini Park before covid-19 started and never saw one lizard. Maybe they were shy or camouflage the background

The Elephant or Chang Building is located at Paholyothin Rd. and Rachadaphisak Rd. The building is also colored as a white elephant. An albino elephant is considered good luck in Thailand.

Hello Alina, welcome to Thailand. These water monitors you'd seen in Lumpini Park can swim, but at night they climb up the tree to sleep. Wish you happy in Thailand.
