I’m still trying to get it. Glad you could see the story there, that’s awesome. How would you explain the story? I would love to connect more to the movie.
Pretty much anything David Lynch is a must buy for me so no regrets there. I'm also really happy with The Trial, One Night in Miami, The Others and some others...and was really pleasantly surprised with The Red Balloon set. The Apu Trilogy is probably my biggest disappointment
My worst regret is Pam’s Labyrinth, I bought it for almost $30 and the next day I saw the Blu-ray for $1 on a thrift store. And honestly I felt so freaking dumb. But we all make mistakes.
Holy crap! Dude! You collect funco pops and you like Howard the duck and teen/chick movies. Why in the world would you even consider watching a Bergman film, let alone buying one? So, it went way over your head. No surprise there. Also, you say that you thought On the Waterfront was going to be like The Godfather. Why? Because Brando was in it? Again, Dude! Try this; if you have to think about a movie, skip it. It'll be too much for you. It might, as you say, "hurt your brain". If you hurt your brain too much, it might stop going Beep, Beep, Beep! and then where would you be?
Wise words. I just need to preview more before I buy. Especially if the price is hefty. Those were some of my first Criterion titles though when I just started collecting so I got swept up in the hype. Any other Criterions you would recommend to me based off my particular tastes?
Great list, Mike. I’m glad you said that about Charade. I have the Blu Ray already and really like the movie, but that does not sound like much of an upgrade.
"Triangle Of Sadness" is on my "Buy From Criterion" list & I still plan to get it. I have one thought about the supplemental content on Criterion discs. I appreciate & really like the extras but I understand the studios have a say over what Criterion can add so a little is better than none. My opinion.
@@BILLONEE A little is definitely better than none. I really like special features so more I can get even better. Triangle of Sadness is definitely worth a 1 time watch but I haven’t gone back to revisit it. Have you seen Swept Away?, to me that movie is shorter and has a similar premise.
I agree with all of the must owns & I liked Triangle Of Silence with the exception of the first 25 minutes and that’s the only reason that I haven’t purchased it yet.
'Mulholland Drive' and 'The Seventh Seal' are masterworks and 2 of my all-time favorite films. And while I enjoy all your recommendations and even own 3 of the 5 , 'Princess Bride' is the only one I'd consider a 'must have film' for most people. But hey...we all have different taste and selection criteria! 😄

Nice1 Mike, I love "Rushmore" and "Defending Your Life" and I have the Criterions of those myself, I also love "The Princess Bride" but I only have a regular ("special edition") Blu-ray of that one. I haven't seen "The Seventh Seal" in a VERY long time but I did thought it was brilliant when I rented (and then bought) the DVD back in the 90s and I now own the 4K which I'm saving for the "right time" to revisit 🙂I haven't seen most of the others, I do recall watching "Mulholland Drive" and not getting on with it at all..but I would give it another go at some point and although I've not seen "Fast times..." I definitely want to see that one as so many people seem to really rate it !
I was shocked when you had Charade on your regret list, but thankfully it wasn’t about the film itself. I think it’s an awesome film but I 100% agree with you that there is nothing about it that separates it from the standard Blu-ray release which I own and I would not “upgrade” to the Criterion edition. I agree that The Seventh Seal was a snooze fest. I love older films, I love B&W films, and I am into foreign language films, but I couldn’t stand this one. I wanted to love it so bad. Fun video Mike!
Charade was such an awesome movie, it’s just tougher with way older films to get those special feature interviews sometimes. But if it’s Criterion I do expect them to get something a little more. Ya not sure why The Seventh Seal was so overhyped for the longest time? Any Criterion’s you would recommend to me knowing my particular movie tastes now?
I have the Criterion DVD of White Dog which I didn't know was controversial here in continental US. Because some people think it's a racist movie but it's the other way around it's anti racism. Well I like the movie and have on Venezuelan VHS prior to the DVD. I thought the movie would have a Blu-ray by now but nope. Too controversial for Criterion Blu-ray. I bought some time ago the Night Of The Living Dead 4K and don't regret it even though I think 4K for a black and white movie is overkill. I think I have another Criterion or two but can't remember. I usually don't buy from them because they don't handle horror movies. Anyway good list good showing and cool video Mike!👉🙂👈
To say that it's too controversial for Criterion is ridiculous. Lack of a blu ray release usually is because of a rights issue. Also, anyone who would buy this movie most likely knows that it's a famously anti-racism film. Condescend much?
@vincezom Criterion rarely handles risqué movies. And I red somewhere that Sam Fuller didn't want the movie to continue to be distributed because of the backlash the DVD received. But who knows if Goodbye Uncle Tom gets released again why not White Dog. Tom had to be shot in Dominican Republic because USA didn't allowed it to be filmed in US territory!🤔
On the Waterfront was about the serious work issues at the time in the country so it hit hard at the time. David Lynch movies are beautifully shot, but yes very complicated and layered. It’s like he had five scripts from five different movies, threw them in the air and wherever they landed is the order of the movie. Lost Highway was like that also. People like Fear and loathing in Las Vegas, but I really don’t like it.
