    Mine was just a prototype, but if you plan on using something like this for an extended period of time, you'll need to add a small board that can manage (and charge) the power to your LiPo battery. If you Something like this will protect you and your battery from damage. amzn.to/2mgkbMr

    It'd be amazing if you made an entire Tron-themed bike. Arduinos are so powerful, there's so much possibility here, like maybe an internal clock/light sensor to tell when it's dark and needs lights, or maybe indicator switches on the handles like what motorcycles have. Great video as always!

    If you are looking for those LED-Strips and don´t want to pay so much for original neopixels look for "WS2812" or "WS2812B" LED strips. They are the same thing but often with just 30% of the costs.

    Great project, the only suggestion I could offer is to have some seperation between the red tail light portion and the white light as I feel the white light drowns out the red (which would confuse other motorists on the road at night.)

      Or you could code with the help of the accelerometer that if the sensor detects a stronger g force going to the front (braking) more red LEDs should get turned on so harder braking more red LED kinda like a fill effect i hope you understand what i mean.

    Yes! very cool. Next step on the prototype, make it all fit in a bicycle water bottle and utilize the bottle cage for quick in and out. I know you were mentioning that one could use the bottle cage bolts for mounting the box. Additionally, the water bottle storage housing should make everything waterproof. Maybe take a look at the Shimano Di2 (bicycle specific) battery and charging system. It is not cheap but just spitballing. Just ideas for taking it up a notch for anyone that wants to keep going with this awesome idea. As always, thanks for sharing !

    You might even be able to flash your tail light when you sense breaking, since it is a decelleration you should be able to detect it. :)

    • @doubledarefan
      @doubledarefan 7 років тому +1

      Write a bit of code that flashes the tail light when deceleration is detected, but ignores deceleration if changes in altitude is also detected. Don't want the tail light to flash every time you hit a bump.
      Or just put a sensor in the brakes, and ignore XYZ forces altogether.

    • @NochSoEinKaddiFan
      @NochSoEinKaddiFan 7 років тому

      You could put a sensor in the brakes, but where is the fun in that? ;)
      I've already seen cyclist backpacks on kickstarter and indiegogo that feature breaking lights controlled by accelerometers. And since they are already part of the project...

    That's cool Bob, this is very useful. I bet one could build a product like this and sell for the bike crowd. There could be a way to mount it under the seat, and have the battery easily removable, where it could be charged via USB or a wall outlet. That's really cool man! I've seen and heard about many accidents, this lights could have helped a lot in some of these cases.

    The only thing I don't like about Arduino is those wires are so delicate. I find it difficult to get it to stay all together. Hot glue holds the wires in place pretty well, but they break off so easily and I wish there was a good solution to that.

      i added 2 470uf ,1 1000uf,1 100uf,2 1pf, at the 5v power line

    nice project bob! I think if you could mount the box and led's the other way around, you can also designate some leds for a headlight. like mount the box under the seat if possible then the leds nearest the box could be your tail light. towards the main frame would be your main light and at the end of the led strip, I think you can mount it in front so that it could act as headlights. cheers!

    Cool idea! I've never used an arduino, maybe I'll try it one day..
    If you don't necessarily need the changing light you could just use a led strip, switch and a battery or a dynamo (and if necessary a voltage converter)
    Have a good one Bob!
    Cheers!

    Very cool prototype! I have two suggestions for your next version of this project:
    First: you could add a feature, where the color of the front and the back of bike would change based on the direction you're moving to. As a example, you could put blue in the side of the bike facing the direction of the motion, and red on the oposite side.
    Second: add some dynamo or solar panel connected to the battery, to gain some autonomy.

    I'm not sure which Tron quote would be better fitting for this video; "User!" is good, but I think "Greeting's programs!" makes more sense. Loved the video!

    Great project and video as always Bob. It would be cool to add a alternator to the wheel or something and set it up so it could charge while you ride.
