  • This week I will be talking about RIIZE’s Sohee and the problems surrounding unhealthy dieting practices that companies force on their artists. I will also share a personal experience I’ve had with eating disorders. This topic hits close to home more than you realize.
I’ve covered topics like this before but this is the first time I’ve ever shared my own experience with unhealthy dieting, which was heavily tied to depression and low self esteem. I hope you find this video helpful, and I will be talking about this more in-depth in the future. 🫶♥️✨

it is quite unfortunate that institutions(e.g. kpop companies) can dictate the life and schedule of those who have the "right look/ the right talent" for the idea of producing groups capable of "success" just bc the individuals consent to the terms and conditions. however, within this scenario of WHAT riize IS, we must observe many factors. 1.) What type of group is RIIZE? ~ Rather than being a group that is collectively proficient in multiple fields like Vocals, Rapping, Dancing, Charisma, and having a strong artistic vision that justifies their creation. Riize is not a group that collectively has each individual who is proficient in all of those fields. But, they operate more similarly to a "performance/dance"-based group, which is already an unrealistic expectation to have Sohee perform these intense choreographies while practicing day in and day out to same execution of the members who might have more experience/proficiency when it comes to dance. BC sonically the members depend on Sohee's voice is engrained throughout all of the songs they have been giving us(he is the skeleton of each song and the members fill in the rest of the space). Sohee is also simultaneously working as an MC for M Countdown which airs on national television. Singing live while performing is already "impossible" for them since the choreography is so demanding but, Sohee loves singing and always wants to do his best to create the best stage he can! Overall, I am scared for his condition bc this does not result in the healthy longevity of these artists; which is why I find it funny whenever companies try to create the illusion that they always prioritize the health of the members before anything else. Bc if anything being a trainee is kinda of like an investment in a good breeding horse/goat; you help nurture their growth with the expectation they will transactionally meet that company's needs. I am not surprised that Sohee left SM before getting the opportunity to come back and debut bc he has to maintain his "image" (in more ways than one) to "satisfy" the ppl he works for and to keep the job he desires. Whenever a goat does not have the trait you want them to have farmers often get rid of them or do not allow them to procreate. Seunghan is an example of an aspect probably not disclosed to the company that became public information, the only thing the company could do was put on an "indefinite hiatus" so that the group could continue to promote and establish the "brand" of who/what is RIIZE; which in my opinion feels like it lacks the classic SM artistic direction that others do have (This might have to deal with Lee Soo Man leaving). NCT Wish still has their own direction outside of NCT bc BOA is the one produced for them which is why their music feels a bit more "cohesive."

I gotta pin this comment, it’s so spot on and speaks to the core issues of the problems companies have created for themselves and mainly their artists. Well said!🙌🏆

Poor Sohee, I hope they let him rest and recover soon. One thing you didn’t touch on was the mental effects of netizens. Whenever an idol gains even an ounce, they start fat shaming which is disgusting. They did it to Taemin when he first came back from the military and he lost weight much too quickly after it. Companies should take better care of new groups, as they are not used to the hectic schedules and stress surrounding a debut. I’m praying that Sohee doesn’t become ill and will gain a healthy amount of weight back. Thanks for bringing this up.

Sohee is one of my favorite idols and seing that photo broke my heart... specially since i am currently quite underweight, strugling with eating enough due depression. I hope its not too hard for him to start taking care of his health, whatever the reason is. And thank you for making a video talking about this topic. 💚

I just wanted to say that most of the time when idol are dieting it's for looking good on camera. The way the camera film makes people look like a normal weight and if they weight a healthy weight they would look bigger so that's why most of the time they're underweight. its really a concern especially for their age because I wonder when they'll be much older what would be the side effects. And they're on such scrutiny from the public that they want to look perfect everyday so when they're not eating they are just taking supplements. its really painful to see idol suffering like this especially when they try their best to look happy for the fans and behind the scenes they're not. Riize is one of my favorite group and since debut they all looked already tiny for they height especially Sohee, Wonbin and Eunseok. But because Sohee have a baby face he can look puffy and that's cute but some "fans" keeps criticize him for it even recently before this picture came off, on their comeback day on twitter people keep saying that his face looked chubby. And also I think it's because they're overworked so they all dropped a bunch of weight but I wish they could rest and focus on their health. And Thanks for this video I hope it can bring more awareness!!

I don't think these companies really care. Their main concern is making a lot of money.

That’s the worst part of all of this is that they view their artists as just marketing machines that generate revenue.

Ok but why would you think its a good idea to make a whole ass vid about this 😭. You're just bringing attention to it.

Simple, It’s important. It NEEDS to be addressed. We gotta stop running away from these issues and address them head on in order to bring awareness to the issues we’ve been seeing in the K-pop industry for years now. Also, Idols don’t always get to speak up for themselves (for obvious reasons), so I want people to know about this, so that we can eventually do something about it hopefully.
Nothing changes in a society If we don’t make our voices heard on these issues, even if we don’t have a lot of power, we still have a voice, and what the companies are doing is wrong. I trust that you agree with me on that. So why don’t we say something about it?
I hope that answers your question why I made a video talking about this. Thank you for your question.

@@moonlight_antonioagree on this one totally Aves.
      Gkad tou are highlighting it.
Why anyone in their right mind, should think we shouldn't care, why???
      That's inhumane 🤔🙄🫶💯👏

Hi Aves just found out, unknowingly Unsubscribed!! Have no idea how or when it happened, but I'm back with some catching up to do.
I didn't know you had Surgery, I'm glad you are recovering well.
I have watched 'Riize' now & thought they are very good!!
But this poor boy Sohee, I agree this is going to damage his organs.
    It's simple abuse.
I get it as you pointed it out, the first year, they are pushed hard.
It's recognised how 'hitting while the iron hot' is really needed in such a Competitve World.
But we have these examples, Onew was shocking, so relieved he's back healthier now.
What they did, was out of line to him, he could have really collapsed dangerously.
So glad Netizens / Fans made a stand on his behalf.
But this boy, needs care clearly.
I am very concerned, who especially, is responsible for forcing this situation on him.
That person is wrong, full stop.
His health is in danger & he should have rest & a Dietition to support his recovery.
    End of.🤔🙄🫣😨🫶💯👏🙏🙏🙏
    I understand
