"A man takes a drink. A drink takes a drink. Then the drink takes a man"..I don't think King could have broken down the alcoholic struggle, as spot on as he did, if he hadn't been one..powerful stuff! One of my all time favorite books is Desperation..I think it's extraordinarily underrated..I think the antagonist was leaps and bounds more intense, scarier, than some of the better known villains, such as Pennywise..Regulator's was alright BUT Desperation was just soooo well written..I did really like your review on this particular one *=)*
Glad you liked my review! I read The Regulators and thought it was so creepy! I bought Desperation right after but haven't read it yet. I'll have to get to it soon!
@@WhytheBookWins Oh girlfriend! The Director's Cut of the movie is very important for a lot of reasons, but Danny's interaction with Jack is expanded in a way that just felt very real for me. Everyone who has experienced the death of a loved one knows what it is like to dream about them still alive, and almost always there's a moment where you become aware that it is a dream, and that person is gone and about to be completely gone again. It comes faster if you try to tell them. Danny's conversations with Jack felt a lot like that, especially with how he visibly struggles to tell him some things and is either interrupted or can't bring himself to speak or be fully heard. (Also Henry Thomas is MAGNETIC in the role of Jack. Long way from Elliott in ET.)
I just got back from an insane rabbit hole ever since you mentioned Doctor Sleep to me a few hours ago in a reply. I never bothered to revisit The Shining, or even knew what it was really about (I first saw it as a child; I’m 42 now). You calling the top of your tier list “Shine On” is when my interest started. “Is it really that good?” I asked myself. I typed “the shining explained” and hopped into Doctor Sleep, the movie, immediately afterward. I never knew King was into child abuse so heavily until today. It’s cutting deep, to say the least. I also didn’t know he got away from alcohol. Anyways… lol. Uh, I love your videos!
I find doctor sleep scary because stealing kids steam is obviously a representation for real life things. Thousands and thousands of children disappear in this country alone every year. A not so fun way to relate it to real life.
I liked the movie haven't read the book yet., In my opinion Mandy by Panos Cosmatos was inspired by Dr Sleep. Specifically the villains Black Skulls/Children of the New Dawn & True Knot .
You're saying religious people wouldn't like AA? I don't see why they would have a problem with it since believing in a higher power is a key element of their program. I've heard of atheist/agnostics not liking AA though because of that.
@ShaneHill-mu4yi I just realized the original commenter must have been the fact that aa is firm on believing in a higher power might scare away people who don't beleive in God and this is very valid! There are more secular recovery groups as well such as SMART recovery.
@@WhytheBookWins Even though I doubt it, it would be cool if they just made another adaptation and ignored Kubricks movie and actually make a faithful adaptation.
I loved both the book and the movie. And btw.... Who's a "constant reader" of Stephen King and gets "too scared for movies"???? She lost all credibility to me with that comment. Now I will bail.

@@thecassandraeffectvsperilo6754 thank you so much! I have never read Lovecraft but keep meaning to!
Love that King tee shirt!
Thanks 😊
The TV show "Elementary" also leans heavily into battling addiction similar to this. Really good show
I'll have to check that out!
This book is so fire. The ending was genuinely one of the most beautiful things King has written imo…
Yes! Totally agreed!!
Love your review! Thank for taking the time to make this. I've seen the movie 6 times, reading the book now😁

I love in the book when Rose the hat realize Danny holds back a lot of anger and his power. That was a," Oh I fucked up" moment that I love.
Great review. Where did you get that shirt? I bet it gets a lot of attention.
Thank you! And it's from Amazon

Yeah my favorite books of his are the ones that feel so much deeper because he gets into these topics. Glad i led you down this rabbit hole 😆
Third fave King novel next to Shining and Salems lot. And I loved the movie! Mcgregor was awesome as Danny. Not to mention Ferguson.
It's so good!!

I still need to see that!
Do you think that the Shining itself represents King's talent? How it's intrusive on his sanity.
That's an interesting thought!
Holy smokes 😯
U fine
A small thought. Wonder who many alcoholics haven't seeked out AA because they are like religious.. might scare me of anyway...

Me neither. Graphically torturing a child to death? No thanks. That shit happens in the real world
@jamiesalmonsculpture8599 it's not even that bad of a scene, lol. There's waaay worse scenes out there, and way worse happens in many of Kings books
