    Nice. When you went to the wheels you took all of the bass suppo😢rt and concentrated it 🎉to the corners on the wheels. I would add another set of wheels in the middle at minimum and if you have a lot of weight on the bottom Shelf I would add two more sets of Wheels at 2 ft 8 in spacing

    I am in the process of making this. Almost done framing. Just modified the height of each shelf and one less shelf for my specific needs. Great template and love the mobility, I’m gonna need it in my small garage.

    Hell for stout. Probably going to collect rocks and engine blocks, huh? I've regretted going more than 16" wide and 6' high... well, taller is okay for big boxes of Christmas decorations. Also, 16" or so height is good for 5 gallon buckets on the bottom and narrower, like 8 or 10"spacing, is nice at eye or chest level for heavy and little stuff. Of course, that's just for what I've got stashed. Nice video. Your helper is a hoot.

    Great video. I made similar shelves but mine were stationary. I'm making new ones in the new house and definitely doing them with the casters this time. I can't believe I never thought of that.
    Also, if you're having the kiddos help, that's incredible but I highly recommend putting a respirator on them even if it's just a two minute situation.

    Spent 700 bucks today on enough wood and screws to make 2 shelves at Home Depot! They ripped the 6 pieces of plywood in half for free. Oh well. Should be fun making theses tomorrow. Thanks for the plans. My buddy said I didn’t need plans. But for the price and your efforts, can’t go wrong.

    I’d worry the middle will sag, by adding a center brace the back won’t sit flush against the wall unless it’s on the inside which would compromise the shelves without notching ea one.

    • @Adjum84
      @Adjum84 10 місяців тому

      From where his finished, You could always cut supports to sit between each shelf and put castors in the middle at the bottom, only thing it would be compromising is the wide open access to the shelves (width of the open gap would be split into two)

    • @daviddunn747
      @daviddunn747 10 місяців тому

      @@Adjum84 That would work too. I’ve made similar shelving, although what he has done is very good and simple, I made mine shorter apx. 76” long and used GRX #10 3-1//2” screws making the chance of sag minimal. I also notched the plywood around the end 2x4 end uprights. He used 3/4” plywood so that alone will help stability.

    Do you know what weight each shelves sections can hold? Didn’t need to make support brackets on each corner for more support? No bent in middle - vertical support? Thanks

    • @Lcanoero
      @Lcanoero Рік тому +5

      without some support in the middle, these will sag.

    • @srsorbo
      @srsorbo Рік тому +2

      In my opinion, all of the load is being carried by the screws being used to support each shelf. If supporting spacers (say 20" in length) were used under each shelf, then the load would be evenly transferred vertically through the supports down to the floor rather than horizontally through the screws. With that said, I did download the plans from Etsy and am using them as a guide for my cut list.

  • @williamsnow7111
    @williamsnow7111 8 місяців тому

    Sorry, but too much reliance on screws into end grain for my comfort. Will it work? Sure. Is there a better way? Yes. With just a small modification this can be avoided entirely, except for the mid span cross braces of course.

    • @a29miller
      @a29miller 8 місяців тому

      Great input and understand your point. Curious- what would your modification be? Maybe a 2x4to rest each end of the shelf frame on?

    • @williamsnow7111
      @williamsnow7111 8 місяців тому +1

      While I did add a short cleat to rest the shelf frames upon, that was mostly so I could lift them up and set them there without a second pair of hands assisting me, as I had to build them in place upright.. What I did was basically rotate the four corner uprights 90 degrees, move the outward most shelf cross pieces inboard by 3 1/2 inches and screw the face of the frames into the face of the corner uprights. If that makes sense. It was similar to this video linkua-cam.com/video/FeMjxGD6UvY/v-deo.html , but I did not bother with the pocket screws. @@a29miller
