A jigged version of the Copper John Nymph. Jigs are becoming more and more popular. Slotted tungsten beads on barbless jig hooks are a great combo. Flies tied on jig hooks snag less often and the tungsten beads get the flies to the bottom quickly. The copper john jig fishes as well as the original, but fishes deep without getting hung up.

Very cool fly. Do you usually fish them under an indicator? Also, would you make this your lead fly in a tandem rig?

Tim Wirt I fish this fly both under an indicator and with a tight line style (czech nymphing etc). This can be used as a lead fly in a two fly rig. With the barbless jig hooks it isn't a bad idea to attach your dropper tippet to the eye of the jig hook rather than the bend. Tippet tied to the bend of the hook can slip off while fishing and you will loose your dropper!
