    I'm glad you published this but really disappointed you didn't do your research before the last review. I almost was not going to get this game because I thought they didn't include the breeding mechanic which was my FAVORITE thing in the previous games. If the game doesn't have that you are right, it's not worth it. But it does so glad you corrected so that I don't miss this game which was a favorite franchise of mine when little.

      I don't really get the people, who compliment him for backpedaling. Apparently DQM had breeding for decades now, so that information would likely show up on a basic Google search. People make mistakes, but this is like not doing your proper research. How can you tell people the game isn't worth retail price, when you haven't even gotten in-depth with its mechanics, spouting utter lies like it not having competitive play?

    I played dragon warrior monsters on the gameboy when i was a kid and it was all about creating stronger monsters by combining them and passing on parents talents. It gets very very in depth to create the perfect S rank monster, but thats the fun of it, seeing what you can create with different combos!

    I like how you stand by some of your criticisms and concede in other areas. Gives more of a feel of a honest come back than how a lot of people just toss out an apology to appease the mass. I agree the graphics could be better. It kind of felt like they didn't put a lot into it. I'm still early on story wise but i am enjoying it. I think on a personal level people put too much into graphics and like super deep and expansive worlds in games these days. I kind of find this game a nice throw back and simple game. Pokémon has gone way too deep and expanded far too much and got too complex (especially competitive) I think this game is more for people who want something they can get into but don't have a lot of time to play games because well they have jobs and other responsibilities that don't let them spend 4 5 or 6 hours a day. We need more games like this for people that don't have that kind of time but still have a love of games.

    Really appreciate this video! I totally understand as I initially was feeling almost the same way. I was kind of disappointed with the game at first, and now I just can't stop playing it! Yes, the graphics are rough, there's some frame drops (especially when entering another zone) but almost everything else is great. The "Toriyama" chara design, the music, Japanese voices, the humor, the combats, the possibilities offered with the monsters, etc... One thing as well I would like to mention is the "feel good" atmosphere that this game is providing, along with some very nice quality of life designs that make a great experience. I have played/finished Pokémon Scarlet, and I can already say that I am having a better time with this game. The "designed for little kids"' aspect is removed and the humor is simply way better. It also doesn't take itself too seriously scenario wise like Pokémon would sometimes do, leading sometimes to non-sense of a lack of credibility. Only one thing, I regret that we don't have much possibilities while exploring the different zones. Also playing DQ Treasures ATM and it is night and day regarding this. Not asking for a Zelda BOTW like experience, but a bit more freedom would have been great.

The graphics look ok to me in the video even on my tv but it's always hard to tell that way cuz an internet video is like not the same quality usually. Appreciate you being so honest about this!
    I think, even comparing to Pokemon SV:
    -Art style/graphics: I feel that the graphics match the art style. It definitely isn't a Xenoblade, but I also don't feel that it's much better or worse than Pokemon. And many of these are classic DQ monsters that fans of DQ/DQM love to see, with iconic looks. Trees still look bad in DQM/Pkmn. :D
    -The performance is nowhere near as terrible as SV was at launch (have they even fixed it?).
    -I personally don't mind the English dub; but Pokemon doesn't have voice acting at all, and they've had two games where a character does a silent song/rap. So..........
    -And when it comes to the battle system... with Talent trees and Synthesis, there is so much more customization you have over your monsters in DQM, than what you would get in Pokemon. Even with EV/IV training and egg moves, Pokemon only lets you have 4 moves per monster. With DQM, the sky is the limit.
    -Online: DQM is new to this space, especially in the west, so we have to wait and see. But the Raids in Pkmn SV were horrible, laggy, you couldn't even join half the time... At least DQM is trying something.
    Glad you chose to give this another chance; I think DQM has so much to offer, especially to those who are new to it, or getting tired of Gamefreak/Pokemon phoning it in.

There's some great gameplay mechanics in the game, but that doesn't excuse the poor graphics and performance, and doesn't excuse the day 1 DLC either. From the standards of any outsider, the game has a decidedly weak presentation early on. It just happens to be one of those games that gets better over time, as you get more involved in the synthesis mechanics, and reach the more interesting story beats. He didn't even test things, if he'd done any experimentation whatsoever he'd have known you can give orders to your monsters. It's literally called "orders". And yet he tells his viewerbase that your monsters are completely automated and you can't control what they do, which is absolutely not the truth. It's NOT fine. These games are masterpieces and deserve a lot more recognition than they currently have, and reviews like the one he made do nothing but hurt these games' chances of getting more popular so us fans don't have to go 10+ years without another entry.

The only downpart is the horrific performance and the grahics. People talked about N64 graphics for pokemon games as a joke but this here has so bad texture quality it could REALLY be out of an N64 game plus the bad performance...how could thst happen? Long time DQM fan here. The game is a ton of fun, a ton of depth, as is usual for dragon quest monsters games.
    That said, it's far from perfect. The frame rate issues are extremely noticeable, even if they dont ruin the overall experience for me, they might bother others more.
    The music is dragon quest. DQ music has always been pretty similar from entry to entry and that's part of what makes it so iconic. That being said most of the music is straight up recycled from previous DQM games, with little to no improvement in quality, or even changes in the arrangements.
    The story is novel in concept, playing as the villain from dq4. But in my opinion far too much of it is told in long strings of cutscenes. That, combined with the fact that every location is traveled to via portal, really makes the world seem less cohesive than even older games in the series.
    Speaking of older games in the series, theres a ton of features from battle, synthesis, and in general that are straight up missing from this game compared to earlier titles, things like plus ranks in synthesis, monster synthesis quizzes, giant and massive size monsters, etc. In general there was always something new being introduced every few hours of gameplay in previous titles. Something new you could do or some new way to synthesize. But in this game I've been playing about 40 hours, roughly half way through the story, and nothing new has been added after gaining the ability to synthesize. Some of these things might be available in post game but so far they are MIA
    I still love the game, but it's missing a lot of features which is odd seeing as it's the first non-handheld entry in the series. So it should be bigger, not smaller than previous titles.

    I think your first video is still fine from a first impressions viewpoint, people might get upset but if a game makes a poor first impression to new players, then it does. It's good to hear that it gets better as you go and that you can set it up to make that first impression better, but that video still has value, imo. I think part of why you had such a bad first impression is because separate instruction manuals are all but a thing of the past. From what you're demonstrating, the game definitely seems like it was made for those already familiar with DQ in general and DQM in specific… which is damned near all of Japan given how much they'd always worshipped the franchise. Foreigners? Eh, eff 'em. Except for the English translation/localization for a better medieval Euro-esque feel. So newcomers are not going to get an easy grip on the game at first, especially when giving separate orders is a separate option from the usual "Fight" option contrary to not just what you get in other RPGs, including mainline DQ, but sheer intuitiveness. And using "Orders" in English as opposed to "Commands" kind of makes it sound like it would just have you change party member or turn order. I'm sure the Japanese is a bit clearer on that front at least.
    Speaking of languages-pun entirely accidental-Japanese is typically spoken more softly than English, so even if you can't understand the former, it'll generally sound less annoying, but also at times "underacted", even if the acting quality for both English and Japanese is technically the same. Part of that is to put emphasis on Japanese's pitch accenting, but it also has to do with how the language was traditionally used in a secretive way to make it hard for foreigners to interpret considering how distrusting the Japanese were (and a good deal of older Japanese still are) of "gaijin", literally meaning "outsiders", back then. So pick what you like, but understand that English will likely be the "canon" language even if the canon _meanings_ are generally more likely to be in the original Japanese writing.
    Agreed on the frame rate problems, though. Did they hire programmers from Game Freak?! Choppiness AND overcranked LODing for modeling AND animation when the detail level is already low?! DQ may be deliberately retro-styled, but that shouldn't mean it should be running like an old man. Nor should the TV experience be treated like a mere bonus.

    • @NuiYabuko
      @NuiYabuko 8 місяців тому

      I'd like to see the world in which Japanese VO is "underacted".

    • @CarbonRollerCaco
      @CarbonRollerCaco 8 місяців тому

      @@NuiYabukoI meant "underacted" as in it _sounds underemoted_ to a native English speaker not accustomed to Japanese, not that Japanese voicework is literally bad in general. Basically, English tends to use pitch and stress a lot for emphasis while Japanese depends far more on grammar for that and especially sounds largely monotone because it uses pitch accent to distinguish between what would otherwise by homonyms-the "three hashi" is an infamous example as that word can mean "chopsticks", "bridge" or "edge" depending on whether the first, second or neither syllable is accented. This may have come about because the Japanese had historically been about hiding or suppressing their true feelings to avoid dire consequences of pissing off someone, especially a superior which could've meant death in the feudal days, and also to keep foreigners from knowing too much and thus potentially "corrupting" and dismantling Japanese society as I mentioned last time, and it's become ingrained into the language since. The point is if you assume all vocal emoting is pretty much like in English, Japanese may leave you a bit underwhelmed, and vice versa even though the speech from the native perspectives is perfectly fine. It's an issue that marred the English dub of Metroid: Other M as Yoshio Sakamoto wanted the English VAs to copy the delivery of the Japanese lines-for example, having Samus in English sound just as monotone as she does in Japanese to communicate coolheadedness, not understanding that native English speakers typically regard vocal monotony as utterly emotionless and stereotypically robotic.
      TL;DR native Japanese speech inherently emotes less intensely than native English speech and that's not any sort of knock against either language or their typical acting.
