I really appreciate your channel, and hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's not what method acting is. Though the label "method" has been applied to many actors we deem too committed, or strangely entrenched in their work, this isn't what the term actually means. Konstantin Stanislavski, a Russian actor and director created a system of acting in the 1930s which was later dubbed "the method" when it was brought over to the United States. Adaptations of his teachings include the schools of thought created by Sanford Meisner, Stella Adler, and Lee Strasberg, and Stanislavski's techniques and theories are still taught by acting teachers today (though many rebrand these ideas and call them their own). Once popularized in the United States in the 1950's, the method created the realistic "standard" we all recognize as "good acting" today. This shift can be seen by examining the work (and noting the unique-for-its-time style) of actors such as Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, and James Dean. So, as you can see, method acting isn't just something the chameleonic Daniel Day-Lewis or rat-slinging Jared Leto get up to, but rather an important part of all "good" American acting both today, and for the past 70 years.

I don't tell a lot of people that I do acting. I am taking a break now, but I don't advertise it. Maybe a conflict of interest, but i am not into social media either. I had to open a Facebook acct cause my then-manager told us to, but I don't post much on it. I didn't even parade when I booked a gig. When people find out is because they watched something I am in. I had my website also told by a coach to do it, but i closed it down. I was able to get a lot of gigs really without much social media. When i am back , I am not looking forward to the social media part. I hope i dont have to.

I moved back at the end of 2018 and now I've moved back three months ago. The only people I know here are my girl And my family and friends at Hollywood Church Of Christ in Larchmont on Rossmore near Melrose. I don't really have many other influences for acting except Yourself and Kurt Yue who lives in Atlanta and also is a youtuber he does small market acting advice and tips. I want to become a great actor because of they way my favorite movies and television shows move me and make me want to be a storyteller also. I'm grateful for individuals like you who take the time to make these videos and I hope to do the same.
Hey great videos I love your channel, what schools should I look into for theatre if my goal is film/television acting? I already take monthly classes in Vancouver and audition regularly but am wondering if school is worth it, especially since I'm still young and have the time and energy. Thanks!
Hi Will It’s me again 😂😂 Im actually working on a "cheap" and portable setup to start out on voiceover. I’m gonna get the audiotechnica at2020, set up a portable booth (a box - not a shield- with sound absorbing panels and place the mic in there) and get a voicerecorder. Actually i think the voicerecorder could be kinda expensive (around 400-500 cad) according to most recommendations for beginners on yt. Is the recorder that important? I thought about a cheaper option like around 100-150 cad or even less. I would be interested what u could recommend. Cheers Louis
Franky I use a blu microphone with a pop-screen and some sound proofing panels from amazon! I plug it into my laptop and edit while I record on premiere. Not too expensive.
Hi Mr. Westwater, I always wanted to do acting ever since I was in middle school but thought I’d eventually grow out of it. After attending my first year at college as a comp sci major, I realize my true passion is interacting with other people while acting. Since I’m a year late my school won’t be able to let me achieve the BFA Degree. Do you have any advice? Maybe I could take some acting classes in LA/Hollywood? I only live 45 minutes away so that could be manageable. Thank you!!
To quote Laurence Olivier: "Why don't you just try acting?" 😂. I think it's important to respect the craft by taking it somewhat seriously, but it's important to not let that become an excuse to be a dick to those around you (i.e. Jim Carrey in Man on the moon).
Right! It's not method acting if Jim needed to do that but Laurence Olivier was maybe joking but otherwise doubting a form of preparation which is not good cus acting is something everyone has their own preferences and everything works. Method is also acting .
Jared Leto is not a Method actor and even from what you are saying you clearly don’t know what the Method is. So why talk about something you don’t know about in a platform with so many viewers, when you could be further perpetuating a wrong idea about something? People still do Method Acting, it’s not for everyone for sure but it’s also not what the media portrays to be. I suggest watching some of Strasberg’s videos or the Strasberg Institute’s current videos as well.
