- This is the best Tony Dorsett film on You Tube for the most underrated great running back in football history. Tough, strong for his size, and lightning fast...and, yes, Darrell Green DID have an angle (for those who know).

AAh, being a cowboy fan in the 70's was the best. Nothing like 70's NFL football. Dorsett and Staubach, my 2 favorites of all time!
Joey COCO so true wish I lived back then. Seemed like a better time
My Packers in the 70's sucked so bad I got hooked on the Cowboys!! The entire 70's teams were filled with heroes pulling rabbits out of the hat in clutch situations!! Golden Richards dive in the end zone, Ed "Too Tall" Jones with a sack, Cliff Harris with an INT, Roger Staubach with 4th and goal and 4 seconds to go TD, and then TD and all his magic!! I hate the Cowboys now with Jerry Jones, the those years in the 70's were dreams come true!! Sort of Like Sugar Ray Leonard in the 80's, just when you thought there was no way in hell they could win, they pulled it out!!
Only thing better was being a Steelers fan.
Couldn't agree more. Great day's!
YES
Tony Dorsett was the man back in the day
He still is, far as I'm concerned.
When Tony Dorsett ran that 99 yard touchdown on MNF I was wearing his replica Jersey and was jumping up and down going crazy! One of the greatest moments in Cowboys history. Nobody cares that they lost to Vikings.
The Cowboys only had 10 men on the field for that play.
Remember it like it was yesterday!☺️
I was watching
I think some people care.
I was 14 in 83 and I loved the cowboys. Dorsett was my favorite player along with Randy White!!!
Won a Heisman, a NCAA national title, a Super Bowl and is enshrined in Canton, not too many players have that resume
Joey COCO Wrong again! Marcus Allen, won a NCAA title, has a Heisman, is Super Bowl MVP, and is in the HOF. Charles Woodson will be in the HOF soon and he will be the third guy in this group.

@Dan Jerko Do you see the word "edited" over COCO's comment? The original comment said "only" not "first". He changed it. So you can keep your clown remark to your self.
@sydboski what you’re missing in Marcus Allen stats is Rookie of the Year & Comeback Player of the Year .
Tony Dorsett:**
One Of The "Greatest" Running Backs In Pro Football. The Record Speaks For Itself!!!!!**
"Outstanding" Rushing Record!!!!!**
Damn Tony could accelerate with the best of em'.
Hell Yeah!
Better than any of them.
I've never been a Dallas fan, but I always loved watching Dorsett run. Every time he touched the ball, you knew he could score.
Without a doubt. Only running back in history to be that prolific.
WATCHED COWBOYS WHILE HE AND TOO TALL WERE THERE
To me..the greatest running back ever!! My childhood idol!! The man who made me love football and sports as a whole! I love this guy, still on my bucket list to meet him one day...#TD33
you prolly dont give a shit but does any of you know a tool to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow forgot the password. I love any help you can give me!
@Alfred Ephraim instablaster =)
@Roland Wesley thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Roland Wesley it worked and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thanks so much you really help me out !
@Alfred Ephraim You are welcome :)
Tony Dorset was one of my favorite running backs as a kid
Clark Nawrocki he my hero too he was on in the superstar tv show won 100ysrds dash
TD made me a Cowboy fan back then... And then they let him go to Denver and lost me for life.
U said it best I feel same way
My favorite Cowboy ever, Harvey is second and should be in the HOF.
If you actually watch his head you will see that about 80% of the time his head doesn't bob up and down. Very smooth. Always impressed me. I grew up watching him
1,007 yards rushing, in a then-14-game season his rookie year! And didn't start 'til Week 10!
+Joey COCO Dorsett was outstanding, he most dangerous back in the NFL between 1977-1981. The only RB that made me nervous as a Steelers fan during that time. Not even Campbell cause that kind of anxiety because he wasn't as much of a HR hitter as Dorsett. Tony was a threat to go all the way every time he had the ball.
+The Scatman Yeah, and came out in the game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals that year. Kept rolling from that point.
+Eugene McGirt 1977-81? a player named payton owned the nfl in them years.
+mmeatheaddd Tell that to Earl Campbell and Dorsett. Sweetness is a HOF'r but he was not the breakaway back that Dorsett was.. that's not even debatable. Walter was tough, durable, and good in every facet of football. But, a homerun hitter he was not.
Eugene McGirt
i guess having a higher yards per carry then dorsett means payton sucked right?paytons longest run was a 78 yarder and he had a 90 yard td run called back in the play offs, but your right payton cant brake a long one.....
and if you campbell or dorsett could put up payton #'s your nuts.campbell did for a few years and was done.
Growing up we had a front row seat to watch some of the best running backs in the NFL. And not to take anything away from the Cambells, the Paytons, Foremans, Simpson, Sims, the Dickersons. They were all great in their own right. But the one player who exemplified excitement, speed, and smoothness, was none. other than T.D. Tony Dorsett. I wouldnt miss a Cowboys game during his career. The only player to win an NCAA Championship, and a Superbowl back to back. Elected to College Football Hall of Fame, The Pro Football Hall of Fame. What a pure joy it was to watch this man run. Everytime he touched the ball, you were disappointed if he didnt get a touchdown. He was nothing but excitement.
I wouldn't be a Cowboys fan today if it wasn't for Tony. Still my favorite ever.....
My favorite too
Greatest ever.......
I was a 14-year old avid Cowboy fan when Dallas drafted Dorsett, and I remember telling people that the Cowboys will undoubtedly be back in the Super Bowl. And I don’t care what anyone else says, Dorsett was every bit as talented as Barry Sanders, if not more.
I really loved watching Tony and thought he was the best I ever seen. But he’s not Barry Sanders.
Not Barry Sanders or Emmitt Smith.
The most aesthetically pleasing great running back. Poetry in motion.
I'd have to agree but I'd also add Gale Sayers. They were beautiful to watch.
Barry Sanders?
The numbers validated his greatness, but watching him? That was a whole 'nother level.

Of all of the running backs I have seen Tony Dorsett was the best I have ever seen play that position.
I'm a Dorsett, but to me the most impressive player on these highlights is Drew Pearson. He never misses a block and always stays on his man. Great, just great.
Yes, one of the best running back to ever play, agree totally with you, Drew Pearson made some great blocks, also Dorsett set up the would be tacklers to be blocked , another sign of a great running back.
Drew Pearson = Mr. Clutch.
Drew Pearson ! The greatest football player the NFL ever laid eyes on the Hail Mary Catch !Truly Biblical!
Drew was incredibly.
I'm sure you got your commission check by now, Paul...he's in, he's in!
The Best! my family had season tickets at Texas Stadium from 75 to 84. Saw some of the best games ever played. The dream team of 77 and 78 was amazing to see as a little kid. Great memories!
5:12 at this game when I was in the 6th grade. Family were Vikings fans so we went. Guy behind me spilled his beer down my back. But I got to see Dorsett's 99 yard TD run.
+Craig Manning I remember that play well-on MNF and the Cowboys had only 10 players on the field!
That was back when "regular" people could afford to go.
I was there too. I thought I was the only Cowboy fan in the stadium.
I remember a that play and I remember where I was at that time! Let me just explain your comment in one simple word that tells it the way it was your comment was AWESOME!!!!
Cool!
Man he was a hell of a player, and an absolute thrill to watch.
Pure runner with instincts you cant teach. One of the all time NFL GREATS!
Greatest
I could watch TD, OJ and the Kansas Comet run all dang day. Beautiful.
as a young giant fan in the late 70s and early 80s TD was easily the best opposing runner to come to town year after year. and he made it look so effortless.
I watched an interview with Bill Parcels who said Dorsett was the hardest offensive player to scheme against saying “he was a real pain in the ass” put him above Montana Rice ect
Reggie White was the hardest to coach against in his opinion.
He's the very reason I'm a cowboy fan! LUV TD!
Tony dorsett.this guy as a running back in his day had no peers
Mine to sir! Watching him run with the ball faking out defenders was like watching Dr. J gliding to hoop dunking on someone. Dorsett was so underrated.
My favorite running back of all time
I was a child 7yrs old not knowing anything about cities and football teams are to be followed by where you live.
I became a Dallas Cowboys fan because of Tony Dorsett. Iam still a cowboys fan because of him.
I was born in California and have always lived here. Always wanted to move to Texas because of the Cowboys.
Tony Dorsett was the one that attracted me to watch Football all day on Sundays.
Starting at the young age of 7.
I'm a long time Cowboys fan and I was a young kid in the 70's and tried to never miss a game of my Boyz especially when TD got there in 77.He was a treat and along with Walter Payton my favorite players.I always tell people that TD was/is greater then Emmitt although I have huge respect for little E.,Tony was faster and didn't play behind as good a lines as E.Regardless they are both Cowboys and along with Calvin Hill and Walt Garrison legendary RB's for Dallas.
My guy my favorite running back of all time I hope you see this Mr.Dorsett you got snubbed on that recent all time 100 team you should have been one of them 10 or 12 that made the team Tony was one of the greatest and probably the fastest running back ever one of the GOATS
Thanks for the memories Tony Dorsett.
Definitely the best I will see in this lifetime.
Thank you, Mr. Dorsett,
Tony dorsett was the business and he still left his mark and Tony d was smooth and could cut and dash on you,he still for my money the best Dallas cowboys running back ever
There's not enough you can say about T,D,all the kids in his aera, memicked his moves.house hold name Great,Legend
Tony D is why I became a Cowboys fan back in the late 70's.
I remember my older brother always telling me about TD and Billy Sims. Billy was another Heisman Trophy winner and was on his way to becoming a HOF'er when he suffered a horrible knee injury in the middle of his prime, what a shame. The year he won the Heisman for Oklahoma In 1978, he rushed for 1,762 yards on 231 carries at an insane clip of 7.6 yards per carry and 20 TDs. He ran for over 5000 yards in only 60 NFL games at 4.5 yards a carry. But my brother always said Tony Dorsett was the most underrated RB out of the all timers who played full careers. I think Billy would have been up there as well. And yes its the same Billy Sims who owns the BBQ restaurant chain.
Haven't heard that name in forever...
Billy Simms was great but his career was too short. That is why he is often forgotten and you never hear about him.
He may not be the best running back ever, but in his prime, he mag be the sweetest runner to watch. His style was so smooth to watch.
He was the sweetest running back ever. People like to say Barry Sanders but he was not as smooth and graceful. Dorsett was beautiful to watch.
Amazing. Can't believe E. Elliot broke his rookie rushing record.... Put Dorsett behind 2016 offensive line=3000 yards.
John beast
Tom Landry hated the fact that Dorsett didn't hit the hole the way the play was designed and instead ran for daylight once he got the football.
That's why Tony wasn't the official starter until week 10.
If Dorsett had started as a rookie, who knows how many yards he could have had.
He didn't start for 10 games. Landry was old school with the 3 yards and a cloud of dust mentality.
And more
They ain’t even close to him today’s game he’d run wild....
Dorsett burst through the hole and accelerated to top speed as well as any back I ever saw.
Maybe just behind Gale Sayers...but I hear ya he was amazing.
@@stevefowler2112 Both about the same
Remember Monday night and no. 28 D. Green
He’s in a class all by himself TD greatest
My all-time favorite running back.
One of my Favorite All Time Players. Thanks TD 👍 God Bless you and your family.
I do not find any other RBs come close to him in the aspect of excitement. Passing attack of Aircolyell and running attack of TD made NFL so exciting.
Exactly. Breathtaking. Beautiful. Perfect blend of control, speed, and power.
Can you say BARRY SANDERS
@@ihatefords1000 Barry Sanders weighed twenty pounds more and was more side to side. Tony Dorsett glided on the field like a skiier running nearly as fast as Bob Hayes but always under control.
That 99 yarder vs Minn should still hail Dorsett as king
Even though Derrick Henry matched it in 2018
There's 1 uniquely important distinction in the 2 runs
Tony Dorsett made his 99 yard record run with Dallas having only 10 players on the field to Minnesota's 11 players
In Derrick Henry's run, Tenn had all eleven players on the field
Tony Dorsettt still hold that record alone, in all honesty
@546 cowboy There is no such thing as a half a yard in rushing yards, or passing yards or receiving yards, you're reaching big time
As a kid I didn't like Dorsett because he was always beating my team. As I got older I realized how privileged I was to have seen him play. One of the greatest ever!
He's got the longest and most eloquent stride in NFL running back history, hands down!!!
Check out Chuck Muncie and Eric Dickerson
@@trosemore Robert Smith and Vince Young, beautiful runners.
@@davidmoody3505 really liked Robert Smith. He was very underrated. I remember watching an espn special on him when he was still in high school.
Tony dorsett ran a 9.6 i think in the 100 yrd dash on tv during the nfl super star competition. I remember watching that and yes he was my fav rb of all time!!!
And this was when players could tackle, and didnt side step or take bad angles to avoid contact.
Neil Tipton, so right Neil it was”tackle” football not strip/knock the ball loose thugball
at one time he was the only rb to rush for 1000 yds for 12 straight yrs from HS to the NFL(4 yrs HS; 4 yrs CFB & 4 yrs NFL, consecutively).
Incredible moves and instincts another of the unreplaceable great players of that era
My first favorite player in any sport. T.D. He was great to see run
From the moment I met Bob Lilly, to Emmitt a few years back, I've always lived and died to the fortunes of the Dallas Cowboys...Tony was the OMG moment for the boys time and time again...
Tony Dorsett by far was the most graceful and smooth running back . I loved watching him play because you knew at any time he could break the big one .
Very graceful, but I have to go with Gale Sayers as the the most graceful. Just my opinion.
@@markv1031 Gale is a great choice too . it's really hard to say who was the most graceful because all the greats had their own smooth style. Guys like Eric Dickerson, Marcus Allen, Barry Sanders, and Priest Holmes were the ones i loved to watch .
Those were the years when Dallas would make great comebacks. Good video thanks for the Post y'all be good be safe
181 dislikes...... Who could dislike what Tony Dorsett accomplished in the game of football? Dorsett, ranks high in the lineup of the greatest running backs ever.
Nobody was quicker through the hole. He went from 0-60 as fast as anybody I've ever seen.
@marie he went 8- 80, but who's counting. Lol
It's called burst here in TX, the eye's say Aye...
My ALL TIME favorite Runningback Beautiful man I love him Much Respect🏈💞🏈✊🏾💪🏽🏈🙏🏾🏈🙌🏽🏈💯
Anyone who took a handoff from Staubach was my favorite running back.
Anyone who thinks Tony Dorsett is overrated doesn't understand the RB position. He was one of greatest NCAA and NFL RB's of all time, only a handfull of players can make that claim. Ask Marcus Allen how great Dorsett was.
He's pretty good
George Wagner I agree but I think Barry Sanders was the prettiest RB. Billy Sims was a beauty also..
+George Wagner Correct.
Hail yeah TD was nice at Pitt and in Dallas as a Cowboy...
+mookeychase0907 Gale Sayers, OJ Simpson, Chuck Foreman, Terry Metcalf, Dorsett, Earl Campbell, and Marcus Allen--the guys I have most enjoyed watching. Also Jerome Bettis.
H2P! One of the best ever! I'm proud he went to my school! Hope he is doing ok!
Late 70's/early 80's were a great time to be a Dallas fan.
My fav running back of ALL TIME !!!
This was a great time to grow up. The Steel Curtain. The Doomsday Defense. The Purple People Eaters.
When he said he got two men to beat i got chills 99 yards later! TD IS Tony Dorsett
Love to watch Tony run. A work of art.
And no Darrell Green did not run him down he slowed down because he thought he was about to make touchdown !!!!
My favorite back, and I'm 100% Philly Eagles! Go Eagles! Wish we had TD back in the day!
TD's greatest asset? He hits the hole HARD
I loved, loved, loved, loved, loved watching Tony Dorsett run the football back in the day! The white #33 and blue #33 jerseys that I wore the hell out of all the time brings back great memories of the late 70's and 80's watching the Cowboys, and the NFL. Grid Iron Classics!
Dorsett embarassed the Cardinals when he started right and then spinned over his right shoulder to go left and scored a TD. He was and still is and will always be my favorite RB of all time..This dude made me run like him as a kid playing football because his style was unmatched and his vision, speed, quickness, & acceleration is beyond reproach...He was simply "NASTY!!"
Funny how we were able to enjoy the careers of TD , Magic , Sugar Ray , and Reggie Jax ( not to mention countless others ) all within this same era , all winners at every level , polarizing in their perspective sports and defyers of conventionality in their greatness !! What a time for me as a 10 year old just beginning to take an interest in sports .Thank you Mr. Dorsett !
I wasn't a Dallas Cowboys fan. But the main reason why enjoyed watching them on TV was to simply watch #33 if he would break one for a big run. It was beautiful watching TD burn defenses when he was feeling it. Tom Landry was a great coach, but he greatly limited TDs running production to no more than up to the 20 times a game according to sports critics. My most favorite running backs in no order - Tony Dorsett, Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders, Earl Campbell, Walter Payton, John Riggins & Emmit Smith. I struggle with finding great RBs today. Adrian Peterson is a great running back too.
The smoothest runner I’ve ever seen.
It all started in Plano Texas.
Wow. I am luck to have seen Tony Dorsett on TV when I was a boy and Emmitt Smith as a 30 year old. The best Cowboy running backs way ahead of everyone else.
the reason i became a cowboy fan since 1977
I remember watching that 99 yard run on monday night football against my Vikings...top ten alltime RB
I always thought there was something about the way he moved his shoulders.
bg147 u r right......the way he would square his shoulders n ran upfield, poetry in motion......great rb TD.
bg147 RIGHT!!No one talked about his shoulders. I noticed that. I was born a yr BEFORE he was drafted. Fav COWBOY, not evn close
I grew up watching the Cowboys. I love Tony Dorsett. About two years ago I heard that he was contemplating suicide. I got Alligator tears right now for him. If anyone out there reads this and can contact him he could used our support of a few words to uplift him. His body took one heck of a beating for us. We all know now what it does to thier minds, so lets help this man. He's the one I always wanted to run the ball like, but I made a better fullback. If I had hero's Tony Dorsett would top the list
When I was a kid I lived in St Petersburg fla. My neighbor was Tony's sister she had a handicapped child. Tony bought her a brand new handicapped van for her. I remember seeing the dealership sticker from Dallas Texas. Nice guy looking out for others. It's unfortunate I was only 14 and didn't watch football or even know who Tony was at the time.
I always found Tony Dorsett's healthy ego to be more endearing than annoying. I actually like players that revel in their "God given gifts". Nothing wrong with the Bary Sanders approach, but I personally like to see people feel good about themselves and their abilities. Nothing wrong with having high self esteem. I love hearing him talk about himself and his abilities, I feel good along with him.
It aint bragging if you can back it up. Ive never like the 'boys but Dorsett is one of my all-time favorites. The guy was just such a pleasure to watch run, block , catch and throw.

I'm from Dallas, but moved to Thousand Oaks in 1970. As a small child, I went to several Cowboy's games when they played in the Cotton Bowl in the early 1960s. Dallas had their summer camps at California Lutheran College in TO. I remember following a preseason work out, Lee Roy Jordan struck up a conversation with my Dad, and we all ended up going to the McDonald's down the street from Cal Lu for dinner. He was a real nice guy, very down to Earth. Tony Dorsett was a once in a generation athlete. His exceleration through the hole was something else. He played the game in a higher gear than almost anyone else.
yes him /marcus allen/eric dickersonbut dorsett took the cake.he look like he was dancing all the time
He was one of the reasons I became a Dallas cowboys fan. I was so angry when he went to Denver.
One of the more underrated backs although he did play with a talented legion of greats. That said, Dallas never had a running game anyway near great before he arrived in 1977. He showed up and a new dominant dimension became the pillar of the Cowboys offense.
+Luke Enno WELL, guys like Duane Thomas, Calvin Hill, Walt Garrison, and Robert Newhouse were all pretty awesome backs.
this is when i loved the cowboys; he was my hero!!
MR. T. D. Cowboy's greatest Running back ever sorry Emitt
I saw that play when it happened and I saw the entire play. I saw where Dorsett was when he started running and I saw where Green was when he started running. Whether Green was faster or not, he had a head start and an angle and I saw it. I don't care who says otherwise.
With the possible exception of Eric Dickerson, Dorsett was the best crease runner I've ever seen. He could squirt through the smallest hole and accelerate through it in a blink
Crease or no crease, Gale Sayers, OJ, Barry Sanders, Dorsett, Jim Brown, Walter Payton and Earl Campbell were all better runners than Dickerson.
Sayers, Sanders, Payton and Brown yes. Earl was a completely different kind of runner so it's hard to compare. But Dickerson did everything Dorsett and OJ did and did it better.
Joey COCO Dickerson had more career yards, a better career ypc average, and had only 2 fewer career TD;s I don't see any argument that shows Dorsett being better, he merely played for a better team.
He's the cleanest RB I've ever seen, his Jersey, socks, elbow pads, and shoes always stayed sparkling white. It's like he never got dirty. Maybe its just the Cowboy Uniforms?
A TRUE CHAMP ON AND OFF THE FIELD !!!
A highly underrated running back and think he won a Super Bowl as a rookie in 1977. He is very explosive on his feet but he does have the ability to cut sideways and accelerate quickly as he sees the hole. An agile athlete with exceptional vision and elusivity which makes him crafty. He can catch the ball out of the backfield and is dangerous on open space. No one realizes how good Tony Dorsett really is even though he is undersized but strong and shifty in breaking tackles and displaying speed.
Best back dallas ever had
I’ve seen Emmitt and Zeke...both are superb. Zeke has a good chance of joining Emmitt in the HOF. While all three have different styles, Tony was better!!
I'd have to agree.
Yes
Late in the game and needing a touchdown, I pick Dorsett.
If leading, and I need to drive the ball and run off 5 minutes to ice the game, I'd pick Emmitt.
I like Tony's style better than Emmett.
He was my favorite player growing up.The guy was pure class on and off the field.
Tony Dorsett? Underrated? ONLY by people who aren't old enough to have seen him play...and these days, anyone who played before 1990 is "underrated" to let ya'll tell it. Trust me, to those of us who were AROUND at the time, there was NOTHING underrated about him...especially to us REDSKINS fans. Dorsett played when RB talent across the league was probably the best its ever been (late 70s - mid 80s): Payton, Ottis Anderson, WIlliam Andrews, Marcus Allen, Riggins, Campbell, George Rogers, Joe Delaney, Joe Cribbs, CHuck Muncie, Wilbert Montgomery, Billy Simms, Eric Dickerson, Mike Pruitt, etc. And with all those names, Dorsett was still recognized as being one of the elite 2 or 3 RBs in the league for a good chunk of that time.
Good list, but add these guys and it further proves your point. Chuck Foreman, Lawrence McCutcheon, Franco Harris, Mark Van Eeghan, James Brooks, Curtis Dickey, Freeman McNeil, James Wilder,
I saw his entire pro career as it happened. Today, he is underrated. THere are backs who are as good as him - like Marshall Faulk, LT, Curtis Martin, Emmitt Smith - who get far more recognition than he does now. He was feared like only a few back in his day - Walter Payton and Earl Campbell were probably the only 2 that were as much a threat in the minds of defenses in those days
Odawg96 Such a great comment, thanks for the history.
I am old enough to have seen his college and pro careers and he was underrated (and under used) in the NFL
Abdolutely correct
Tony is my favorite Cowboy of all time, believe it or not I loved watching Danny
White play quarter back to and Randy White on defense was a fun player to watch. For some reason I was never an Emmit Smith guy or Michael Irvin although I did like Troy Aikman, it must have been the time but I really enjoyed the cowboys in the late 70’s and through most of the 80’s.
The bad rap on Herman Edwards = Just throw at him. Herman Edwards was toasted by: Drew Pearson, Tony Hill, Butch Johnson, Mike Renfro, Billie Joe Dupree, Doug Cosbie, Doug Donley....just to name a few...
Tony D still one of my favorite players! Dallas has been lucky with RB’s through the years.
Damn I just seen a young Herm Edwards...I thought he was like Samuel L Jackson & been over 40 since he left the womb lol
Met him briefly at Restoration Hardware just north of the Galleria. Very warm and gracious in a venue where defensiveness or irritation wouldn't have been shocking, but he was awesome. Will always be a favorite memory for me.
Awesome video and I HATE Dallas.
