Anita Baker is a master class in singing with a vocal range of nearly 3 octaves. She's incredible. This song won a Grammy and she has 8 Grammys total and 4 platinum records to her credit. Other songs to check out: Caught Up in the Rapture and You Bring Me Joy, both are must hears. So glad y'all enjoyed her!
Anita is one of the GOATs of sweet soul. There was a ten-year stretch between 1986 and 1995 when her fame rivaled that of Janet Jackson and Tina Turner. She's definitely someone worth exploring. "Caught Up in the Rapture" is one of her biggest songs, as is "Giving You the Best That I Got", "Just Because", "Talk to Me", and "Body and Soul". The pride of Toledo, Ohio!
My dad credits her with helping him get his associates in electrical engineering in the 90s…he listenedto her, take six and Oleta Adams while studying. Remember it like it was yesterday I love that old man
This album blew up when it was released. She dominated the charts for a full year. Everybody knew this album by heart. What's funny is that she had been turned down by record companies and producers who told her she couldn't sing. So many good memories!
Anita Baker…..just love her voice! So sweet and tranquil It has that cool sultry soul sound! She hasn’t been singing lately…took a break to have marriage and kids! We all were Anita fans!
When this album dropped the charts were dominated by the Janet's, Madonna's and the like. It was like she said "Grown folks need music too." So many hits on this album. "Rapture" "Giving You The Best That I Got" "Angel"
Oh please, Madonna is the single most critically acclaimed female recording artist of all time, and there is absolutely nothing in Anita’s catalog that can touch the like a prayer album.
Love Anita Baker, such a warm voice. " Caught Up In The Rapture " and " Same Ole Love " are fire 🔥Also Giving You The Best That I Got". The only one that comes close to her is Toni Braxton.
Her voice is like butter! 🧈 Smooth, silky and rich!! Love her. Please check out Same Ole Love, Giving You The Best That I Got, No One In The World, and Caught Up In The Rapture! You may enjoy Toni Braxton. She has a similar voice and some great hits in the 90s/00s. Keep smiling y'all!! 🎶🥰🎶

If somebody is ever smart enough to tap Oleta to sing the National Anthem at major event, we may all have to forget about Whitney Houston's version!

One of the greatest voices of all time. Her 'Rapture' album was one of the greatest albums of the decade. Every track is awesome. Pick any. 'Caught Up In The Rapture', 'Same Ole Love'. Even her early 1983 album is stunning. 'Feel The Need' and 'Will You Be Mine'... Beyond words, just listen x

Great reactions. When Anita Baker dropped this song in the 90s, it completely took over black radio. No one had ever heard a voice like hers, and she spent many years after giving us hit after hit. Love that you've scratched this amazing surface.
Anita Baker is one of the best Contralto singers of our time. Simply speaking she is a diamond. Technically a Contralto's voice . the range of a low female voice between mezzo-soprano and tenor, usually from about the first F below middle C to the second F above; alto. The rarest form of singer!! She is in a class by herself! . So happy you listened and this is just a sample of all the Greatest Anita Baker have to the music industry ♥️ Toni Braxton, another Contralto is iconic .. please listen to her voice . She is one of a kind.

Have always loved this song. Her voice is amazing. Jay, did you forget to ring your new artist bell 🔔 Or have you reacted to Anita before? If you did I missed it.
Anita's voice is so passionate. Back at this time when the young folks were new jack swinging, Ms. Baker was jazzing up the place in a soulful, more mature sound. As much as I loved the new jacks, I also loved the depth and power Anita provided. A true legend.
I fell in love with her voice when I first heard it so many years ago, it’s so soothing and beautiful 🥰😍 Some of my favorite songs from her is “No One In the World”, “I Apologize”, “Soul Inspiration”, “You Bring Me Joy” and “Body and Soul”. She has so many great songs that it’s so hard to just pick a couple for me 😂❤️
I recommend that you listen to Dianne Reeves sing her song "Better Days". You will not only love her voice, but I think you will really love the meaning of this song.
I just *love* that voice. Sometime soon, you should check out her first solo single, "Angel." For such a beautiful song the story of how it came about is sad... but not unusual. And had a happy ending. She was in a group that didn't meet with success, and had left the music business. The label rep who worked with her band *begged* Anita to unretire and sign with his label, Beverly Glen, which she did. Her album, The Songstress, is about as close to perfection as I've ever heard. But the label never paid her. (Bobby Womack also signed with the label and made the best album of his career, The Poet, and also didn't get paid.) So she went to Elektra and made the album that included Sweet Love. Elektra bought the rights to The Songstress and rereleased it. I think it went gold, and this time she got paid.
I said the same thing about "The Songstress"; it *is* so close to perfect. It's one of the few albums that, to me, doesn't have a single dud track on it. Truly an amazing recording. I was lucky enough to be in L.A. in 1983 where a cousin introduced me to the album. I purchased my own copy back then and I'm glad I did because it was impossible to find shortly after. Almost a decade passed before Elektra could finally buy the rights to it, during which time she recorded "Rapture", "Giving You The Best That I Got", and "Compositions", which I think is why so many people don't know "The Songstress".
I love Anita Baker!!!! Now I would love to see other phenomenal songbirds like Phyllis Hyman, Angela Bofill, Stephanie Mills, and Mikki Howard to name a few. 🙂
I hate to say this but it’s about time you got the great Anita Baker thank you for that!!!!!
I was thinking the same!
Yes...she's been a long time coming. Superior vocalist.

Great song Great Anita !!! Not only the vocal . Melody ; bass; horn; keyboard… High level. Thank you 👏😍
I recommend that you listen to Dianne Reeves sing her song "Better Days". You will not only love her voice, but I think you will really love the meaning of this song.
One of my favorites. If you really want to listen to something amazing, try Nnenna Freelon, with her version of Umi Says
Guys great reaction. Such a tremendous voice and talent
I love Anita Baker!!!! Now I would love to see other phenomenal songbirds like Phyllis Hyman, Angela Bofill, Stephanie Mills, and Mikki Howard to name a few. 🙂
Yes to all of these especially Phyllis Hyman!
You are right!
