It's kind of ironic that now Russia's getting so religious, and America is becoming more atheistic. I don't think I know anyone under 50 who regularly attends church.
As a fellow American, I must point out that it is HIGHLY dependent on WHERE you live! At least 50% or more of the YOUNG PEOPLE I knew when I lived in Arkansas regularly attended church and it was close to 100% of their parents and grandparents. I am originally from Delaware and now live in Maryland and around here, while it’s certainly A LOT less, it’s still pretty high in the more rural areas. Also, I find that in communities that are still pretty ethnically homogeneous, like the Polish or Italian neighborhoods in the cities are still overwhelmingly Catholic (although it’s still a pretty low number who attend church regularly).
@@christinafidance340 I live in Massachusetts, far outside the Bible belt. Here church attendance is pretty low among the young. Young adults, I mean, who live on their own and therefore aren't going to church simply because their parents demand it.
Interesting stuff. Apologies for not getting to your Ronald Inglehart video, I will watch that and leave a comment soon. As well as give my thoughts on your "USA-Christian-or-Secular" video. I love your vids on the State Atheism/Anti-Religious campaigns of the Soviet Union. I am currently studying religion and religious policy in communist China since 1949. They too also had a similar anti-religious/state atheism campaign, one that rivaled (and I would say at times, exceeded) the USSR's. Christopher Marsh has a good book on the Chinese anti-religion campaign (as well as the USSR's) in his book: "Religion and the State in Russia and China: Suppression, Survival, and Revival". A highly recommended academic work!
Thank you so much. Yes, I know C. Marsh and saw him speaking at a SSSR conference. As Ukrainian however, I have some issues with his attitude towards Russia and Russian imperialism/ seeing close ties between Russian government and the Orthodox Church in a positive light and so on. I might be wrong though, need to read his materials a bit more. It would be good idea to make a video about anti-religious campaign in China. Right now I dont know much about that.
as far as I know the Chineese cultiure is not religious at all. They have some Cristians, today more than previously, but in general they are not religious. It is a completely different culture.
It is fascinating to watch videos about the failed Soviet Union. As a kid growing up in the USA I always wondered what was happening behind the curtain. I love these videos.
It was interesting to see those pictures, I have never seen them before, probably because I was born after the war and in my time nothing was heard about those problems.
You possibly mean some organized religion like the Orthodox Church in modern Russia (only at some level) but to many practitioners it is indeed just a private matter. Plus there are many who practice spirituality individually without any involvement in with organized religions.
@@VVeltanschauung187 yes, it was the reality of the Soviet Union, many priests were sent to prison camps, I share it in my video about antireligious campaign under Stalin
There's a certain irony in the Soviet anti-religious policy. It seems that men [as in Lenin] are great and that elder women and men are toxic. These appear to irrational, hierarchic ideologies not much different from religious order. It feels like they're using religious methodology to deter one from a religious way of controlling people into the controlling socialist ideology. I might suggest it feels more anti-religious than atheist which is an interesting, ironic perspective.
my childhood was the exact opposite with religious icons everywhere... To this day I have several religious items on my desk. Three Holy Virgins, a Saint George and the Holy Sacred Family... And a Buddha!
@@religiologEng I forgot to mention that my sister went to an all girl's Catholic school and in my school the school principal would make a speech every Monday during the general assembly and would always mention the bible despite having a few Jewish boys and girls. That was the standard girls school uniform in Soviet Schools and probably before. Today a more Catholic school girl look is common but the traditional "French Maid" look is still popular. BTW, it was our fetishization of the "French Maid" look that was our thing in the West.
The belief or disbelief of a god should be determined by someone's personal examination and out of their own observation, that shouldn't be forced upon anyone regardless if it's for atheism or not. Everyone has a mind of our own, unless say that point of view is directly harmful than I could argue that it would be ethical to intervene and change that point of view but in the case of religion and atheism you shouldn't control what people believe. This is why I don't believe parents should pressure their children to believe in a God regardless of their personal beliefs, that causes psychological harm; instead they should allow their children to come up with their own conclusions.
So... why are you as someone religious are so touched by this till the point of sharing it via vid? You create 'us vs them' mentality, where 'we are the hurted ones' and 'they are the bad ones'. So precisely what you report them doing. Bravo then, no lesson learned :/

Some real progress for the US then. Any one who believes in that clap trap is mentally insecure. Us grown ups don't need such stories.

The way Lenin was worshipped it was more like they co-opted religion than abolished it. Ironic indeed.
