You may recall many years back when Detroit's police chief during a press conference recommended motorists treat red lights as stop signs and assured us we would not be ticketed.
@drew2fast489 - where's the joke? How do you think it got to this point to begin with? And don't say lack of jobs, because Oakland CA is heading in the same direction.
Family friend grew up in this area in the early1930's (still alive today in his mid 90s). He in the early 1980s went back looking for old house on the corner was gone as well as the hardware store his father ran. Now? demolish and plant trees, make something of the land to at least create lumber. There is no alternative this city as the jobs are not coming back and the boundary of Detroit is large enough to fit both Boston and San Francisco inside. People are not coming back.
Unfortunately you are right.. Detroit will continue to shrink and it's people will move south.. better places..I lived in south West Detroit..watched fires everyday..it was medieval..my plant closed it's location off Michigan Ave..and I retired...in mid south Michigan now..a beautiful landscape..be safe
During the housing crash in 08, many of the defaulted homes and properties all around the country became available on the worldwide market. These areas will be revived, but not in any conventional manner we are familiar with. Once our banks struggled and merged with larger banks, these assets were assumed and are now available to 'investors' in many countries.
As I have said many times before the downtown area is a sparkling showcase! But many of the inner city neighborhoods are left to decay and unbearable crime!
Kinda hard for people to move back in. Imagine paying $1400 a year in taxes to have a flooded ass street, no plows, slow emergency response. Id leave too.

@FA-sr6lx There are areas like this in every major city now. Half of my state looks like this, but it definitely didn't when I was a kid. This country isn't what it used to be - from the lack of community, devolved culture, growing political and racial divide, a significantly growing drug use problem, lack of proper Healthcare, a bigger lack of mental Healthcare, a poorer economy, rise in divorce rates, rise in fatherless families, rise in gang presence, rise in obesity, and a statistically monumental decreased level of education standards, etc. I could go on, unfortunately.
IT CAN be... But you have to continue making it, by keeping it up. The majority of these people just GAVE UP because they bit the addictive Democrat Welfare carrot.
